Gulf Coast Records announces the signing of acclaimed Chicago blues guitar great Joanna Connor, and will release her label debut CD in the Spring of 2023. Connor will be going into the studio in December to record the new album. She’ll be recording with her “Wrecking Crew 22” band that includes: Joanna Connor - guitar and vocals; Shaun Gotti Calloway – bass; Dan Souvigny – guitar and keys; Curtis Moore Jr. – keys; and Jason J Roc Edwards - drums and vocals.

Summer Camp Music Festival organizers announced the initial artists confirmed to perform at the festival, which is taking place at Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, IL on Memorial Day Weekend in 2023. Notable artists include Willie Nelson & Family, Excision, Vulfpeck, Goose, Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade, & The Disco Biscuits. Celebrating the 22nd annual edition of the festival, by Jay Goldberg Events and Entertainment,musicians spanning every genre will take the stage throughout the weekend.
Steppenwolf was formed in 1967 in LA by John Kay (vocals, guitar, harmonica), Goldy McJohn (organ, piano) and Jerry Edmonton (drums) who were previously members of the Canadian band The Sparrows. They were joined by Michael Monarch (lead guitar) and Rushton Moreve (bass). The band signed to Dunhill / ABC Records and were propelled to success in 1968 with their classic single “Born To Be Wild” which became even wider known when the track was featured to great effect in the classic 1969 counterculture film Easy Rider.

On Thursday, December 8th, The Smithsonian Institution presented the James Smithson Bicentennial Medal to Susan Tedeschi during a special ceremony at the National Museum of American History in Washington DC. Medals were also presented to Dave Grohl, Gloria and Emilio Estefan.
Tedeschi received the award for “her embodiment of the American Experience through music; for imbuing the American soundtrack with songs that transcend from grief to joy; for staying true to her art form and for using her voice to share stories of hope in advocating for a better world.”
