The wait is almost over! MerleFest, presented by Window World, kicks off next Thursday. As fans prepare to embark on their annual pilgrimages to MerleFest, the Wilkes Community College campus is abuzz with staff and volunteers excitedly making final preparations for the festival which takes place just one week from now—April 27-30.

Stewart Copeland, influential drummer/founder of seminal 80s band The Police and acclaimed film, opera, and orchestral composer, continues his musical journey with Police Deranged for Orchestra, a new album set for release on June 23 (Shelter/BMG). With his latest album Copeland explores the band’s best-known tracks through a new lens, inspired by his recent forays into expansive musical forms and instrumentation.

Nashville genre-bending trio The Arcadian Wild have announced their new album Welcome, to be released on July 21 via Vere Music. Along with the announcement they’ve shared the first single “Dopamine,” a punchy track that confronts the insidious ways that smartphones and social media have hijacked our brains.

Driving up the coast highway from LA, once you hit Santa Barbara you are struck by a noticeable change in landscape. It is the gateway to the Central coast, where the contours of the land begin to take on more dramatic inclines and feelings burn like wildfires. There are many Pink Floyd themed-bands in existence today – some as full-on tributes who try to replicate Floyd live shows authentically, others more loosely inspired by the psychedelic and conceptual scope of PF’s groundbreaking music.

Scranton-based bluegrass-jammers Cabinet made the second stop on their spring tour Saturday night when they invaded the Sherman Theater in Strousdburg, PA.  Formed in 2006, Cabinet is a seven-piece band that combines bluegrass, folk, country, and rock to create a distinctive sound that also pays tribute to traditional styles. Forty-six years after he came out of Newcastle, England, with mates Andy Summers and Steward Copeland to form The Police, Sting delivered on April 12 a triumphant performance of Police songs and Sting solo material at the intimate and classy, 2,500-capacity Hard Rock Live venue, 35 miles north of Sacramento.   

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band capped the opening leg of their 2023 international tour tonight; a cross-country 28-show run which marked their first North American dates together since 2016. Kicking off February 1 in Tampa, Florida and concluding tonight in Newark, New Jersey - the high-energy performances featured Springsteen and The E Street Band backed nightly by The E Street Horns and The E Street Choir.

The Drive-By Truckers will release The Complete Dirty South on June 16, 2023, via New West Records. Originally released in 2004 to wide acclaim, The Dirty South explores the mean highways and dark hollers of what the band called the “Mythological South,” a tornado-ravaged landscape populated by bootleggers and small-time criminals, everyday folks just scraping to get by and looming icons like Sam Phillips, John Henry, and Sheriff Buford Pusser.
