David Nelson’s long strange trip dates back just as far as the Grateful Dead’s. Nelson, Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter were all pals from the Dead’s humble beginnings in Palo Alto. He was there for the acid tests, he saw the San Francisco scene blow up only a few years later, and of course cofounded New Riders of the Purple Sage with Garcia and John “Marmaduke” Dawson.
It’s the week before Halloween and Brock Butler and Matt McDonald of Perpetual Groove are on different phones and in separate rooms within the same Atlanta recording studio. With two shows in Charleston, SC on the docket, and two more later in the year in Colorado, the band had taken to rehearsals to work out covers and dust off the tunes they’d gotten back to playing earlier in the year.

I had the pleasure of attending one of two shows this past snowy weekend at Cervantes in Denver. Supported by yet another long time vet George Porter Jr. of The Meters brought out his side project Runnin’ Pardners. This evening was filled with bright, colorful and energetic music.
To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA) has launched their brand new "Music is a Safe Place" campaign in light of the recent tragedy at La Bataclan in Paris, as well as the attacks in Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria. The campaign's central theme - "Music is a Safe Place" - first appeared in the original TWLOHA story nearly 10 years ago.

Pigeons Playing Ping Pong has announced a Colorado tour in March of 2016. The band will embark on their two-week run with a number of stops in popular mountain towns including 2 night runs in Telluride and Steamboat Springs. The tour will come to a close with 3 nights on the Front Range including a special April Fools day show billed as "Foolin' at The Fox" at the Fox Theatre in Boulder. More details are available HERE.
