The Ballroom Thieves. Maybe you haven’t heard of this band – I hadn’t until I received the album. But that’s okay…this band is going to be around for a while so you’ll get your chance. If you go to your local record store, chances are you might find an album, but it’s unlikely. The band has only put out two EPs since they formed in 2011. Their first EP, The Devil & The Deep released in 2012. The band’s latest, and second, EP released October 4, 2013.

Each year, since 2008 (according to my research), MartyParty (who did this fun remix) and Ooah (of The Glitch Mob) have toured in the spring/summer doing a special show, PANTyRAiD. For me, their smooth, sexy music brings new life to electronic music. However, this is an electronic show – so don’t come expecting your run-of-the-mill nursing home acoustic group. (Do those exist?

Cheers erupted from the crowd as the first line up announcement was made for the 4th Annual John Hartford Memorial Festival (JHMF), during the morning Chompdown at their annual Fall Festival & Pickin’ Party that recently occurred. For those who may not know, Chompdown is a pot luck-style gathering where volunteers cook up fresh food and goodies for all to enjoy, adding a community feel to a public event.

A light blanket of snow settled on the still-green trees around the amphitheater, thin layers of ice coated wooden planks and steps, and expertly positioned heaters scattered the stage. It was October 4th at Red Rocks, and it was cold. But timing wasn’t much of a choice for Lotus and their supporting bands BoomBox and Break Science.

I met Mark “The Shark” Stevens a little over a year ago through mutual friends in Boston. What immediately comes to mind when I think of those first nights out at the bars is that—for better or worse—the kid was always right in the mix of things.

Beginning with an Infamous Stringdusters show in August, 2009 at the Brew Ridge Music Festival located at Devils Backbone Brewery in Nelson County, The Festy was born.  The Stringdusters and Friends created a festival of their own design located just south of the village of Nellysford in Nelson County, Virginia.

The only thing frightening about this Halloween would be missing The String Cheese Incident’s epic Suwanee Hulaween festival Thursday, October 31st-Saturday Nov. 2nd.  These are the last SCI shows until New Years 2013!

Following the Spring departure of longtime bassist, Kevin Rosen, the Chicago-formed Dark Star Orchestra offered temporary spots to a handful of talented performers. Today, the band announces the formal, permanent bassist role goes to Skip Vangelas who is currently on tour with the band.

Gather your tribe and deck yourself out in Voodoo flavor because Suwannee Hulaween has unveiled its spooktacular schedule for the inaugural festival taking place October 31 – November 2, 2013 at Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, FL. Featuring no overlapping sets, fans won’t have to miss a single moment of music, also giving them plenty of time to explore the grounds.
