Festivals

The time of year has come where that childhood anxiety of change and new adventures both excites and frights us to the bone. Mother Nature tells us that it’s time to progress. After Labor Day we all start to feel it. This is the time when some of us head back to school, and this is the time when some of us start packing away our wonderful toys of summer.  We say goodbye to our wonderful wilderness festival dance companions. The end of summer draws near. Festavarians, especially us in the Midwest, know that our times together are going in a new direction.

Treasure Island is a weird place. Named after the Robert Louis Stevenson book, Treasure Island was constructed (yes, constructed) in the 1930s as an airport. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941, the island was converted into a full naval base. From then on the island was rarely used, sitting as a reminder of World War II to the many commuters crossing the Bay Bridge. In 2005 the navy sold the island back to the city of San Francisco, prompting a repurposing of the grounds.

This year’s lineup has seen a few drop-outs, but it also features some great acts, both well-known and little-known.

Jomeokee Campground is the home of the Jomeokee Music & Arts Festival located in the town of Pinnacle, North Carolina. The thought had not dawned on me, until I saw Pilot Mountain in the distance that I was heading to a bluegrass festival in the stomping grounds of the characters from The Andy Griffith Show.  In the Andy Griffith Show, the writers of the show switched the name to Mt. Just as the summer’s bustle is coming to a close, the heat is turning up for the folks at Railroad Earth’s Hangtown Halloween Ball.

With the 3rd annual event, The Festy continues to carve a unique and growing nic

With summer coming to an end and the leaves on the trees already changing, Catskill Chill was a perfect last hoorah for the 2012 festivals season. You would be hard pressed to find people complaining about the festival, which offered three full days of some incredible times.
