Genre-defying quartet Up and Orange announces the release of their explosive new live album, Live at Brooklyn Bowl, recorded on March 14, 2024, in Brooklyn, NY. Available now on all streaming platforms, the album delivers the band’s signature blend of jazz improvisation, jam spontaneity, and virtuosic interplay, led by guitarist, vocalist, and composer Owen Dudley.

LISTEN | Up and Orange - Live at Brooklyn Bowl

Live at Brooklyn Bowl showcases seven tracks that span fiery originals and reimagined classics, all delivered with the band’s trademark kinetic energy. Highlights include a sprawling, shape-shifting rendition of Talking Heads’ “Take Me to the River”—transformed into a staccato-fueled funk odyssey—and a haunting, Miles Davis-inspired take on Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature.” Original compositions like “2006” and “Heard Twice” spotlight the band’s mastery of melodic conversation, while the 10-minute jazz fusion epic “Empire” burns with incendiary solos from all members.

Sonically, the Brooklyn Bowl performance captures Up and Orange at their most unfiltered and adventurous. From the freeform jazz breakdowns of “Take Me to the River” to the soulful, rolling balladry of “Side by Side,” the album is a testament to the band’s refusal to play a song the same way twice. Perhaps most enthralling is “2006” which includes hypnotic melodic exchanges between keyboardist Darren Denman and Dudley, while bassist Jonathan Toscano and drummer Colin Taylor anchor the chaos with relentless groove.

Playing at the Bowl was a huge milestone for us,” said Dudley. "We channeled the butterflies and played with energy, patience and determination.”

About Up and Orange
Born from Owen Dudley’s childhood obsession with guitar improvisation, Up and Orange melds the spirit of jazz icons like Miles Davis and John Coltrane with the exploratory ethos of jam bands like Phish. A classically trained violinist and pianist turned Hendrix disciple, Dudley formed the band after connecting with kindred spirits Jonathan Toscano (bass), Colin Taylor (drums), and Darren Denman (keys) at New York’s New School. Together, they craft music that dances between structured songwriting and uncharted improvisation.

Live at Brooklyn Bowl follows their 2024 studio EP From Under Cold Water.
