Independent alt-Americana band Buffalo Jones will release their fifth studio album, Celebrate, on September 26, 2025, marking nearly 20 years of heartfelt songwriting and high-octane performances across the Pacific Northwest and beyond.

Known for their blend of ’90s-inspired alternative rock and Americana, Buffalo Jones draws frequent comparisons to The Refreshments, Old 97’s, and early R.E.M. Their music features melodic hooks, layered vocal harmonies, and guitar-forward arrangements that manage to be both driving and soulful.

The band’s history includes performances alongside national acts like Cracker and Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers, with whom they maintain an ongoing relationship. In fact, they just wrapped a performance at Circus Mexicus, Clyne’s independent music festival in Mexico.

Formed in 2005 by songwriter Jason Johnson, Buffalo Jones has released four prior albums and recorded their fourth, Standing By (2020), with David Lowery (Cracker, Camper Van Beethoven) producing and Drew Vandenberg (Of Montreal, Drive-By Truckers) engineering at Chase Park Transduction in Athens, GA.

Celebrate showcases the band’s current lineup: Johnson (vocals/guitar), Brandon Humphreys (lead guitar), Joshua Martin (drums), Patrick Pugh (bass), and Greg Brandt (keyboards). The album’s sound ranges from upbeat, riff-driven tracks like “Caught in the Middle” and “Why Try to Win” to introspective ballads like “A Hole” and “Before the Night Is Through.”

Celebrate will be available on vinyl, CD, and all major streaming platforms beginning September 26, 2025.

Buffalo Jones Bio
Fans of ’90s-era Alternative Rock/Americana (à la The Refreshments, Old 97’s, R.E.M., etc.) will surely appreciate the driving guitar rhythms, tight vocal harmonies, and soulful guitar solos that define Buffalo Jones’ music. The band has been rocking Spokane and touring the West for nearly two decades. They regularly support PNW shows by national acts such as Cracker and Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers. In fact, they just finished a stint at Circus Mexicus — Clyne’s annual independent music festival in Puerto Peñasco, Mexico — this past June.

Buffalo Jones began in 2005 with Jason Johnson, an acoustic guitar, and a trove of infectious hooks, melodies, and lyrics. Within a year, Jason had found drummer Tony LaSoya, bassist Glenn Case, and lead guitarist Brandon Humphreys to form the first iteration of the band.

With that lineup, the band released their first album, “Wake Up. Struggle.” in 2008. The next few years brought lineup changes and other challenges, but the band consistently played shows and released their second album, “This Is Not the End of the World,” in 2015, followed by “We Woke Up and the World Had Changed” in 2017.

Throughout those years, the band strengthened their ties with indie rock powerhouses Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers, as well as alternative/Americana legends Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven. By 2018, David Lowery (Cracker/Camper Van Beethoven) had taken notice and decided to produce the band’s next album, “Standing By.” They traveled to Athens, GA, in August of 2019 and spent ten days recording at Chase Park Transduction, with Drew Vandenberg engineering and Lowery at the helm.

Unfortunately, plans to tour and support that album were undercut by the global pandemic. But as soon as live music returned, Buffalo Jones was back onstage. After a few more lineup changes, the band returned to the studio with Johnson on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, longtime members Brandon Humphreys (lead guitar) and Joshua Martin (drums), and new additions Patrick Pugh (bass) and Greg Brandt (keyboards).

On September 26, 2025, the band will release their fifth independent album, “Celebrate,” available on CD, streaming platforms, and — for the first time — vinyl. The album continues the band’s tradition of powerful rhythmic hooks, captivating vocal harmonies, and blistering guitar solos that have defined their sound for nearly twenty years. Notable upbeat tracks like “Caught in the Middle,” “Anything But Ordinary,” and “Why Try to Win” are nicely balanced by two ballads, “Before the Night Is Through” and “A Hole.”

In addition to the September “Celebrate” release show in Spokane, Buffalo Jones will headline album release shows in Seattle and Portland on October 24 and 25, with support from local bands in each city.
