Sundays Are Dead: Free Family-Friendly Funk and Jam Near Montgomery BART

Mr. Hat Presents, in collaboration with Harlan Records, invites the Bay Area to finish out the summer with SUNDAYS ARE DEAD, a free outdoor funky jam festival on Sunday, August 31, 2025, outside Harlan Records—just one block from Montgomery BART. From noon to 8:00 pm (live music from 1:00 pm), the street transforms into a family-friendly celebration featuring two groove-heavy bands putting their own spin on the Grateful Dead songbook and more, plus food and drinks for purchase, Shakedown Vendors, and a Kids Zone.

Headlining is the Joe Marcinek Band, led by nationally renowned guitarist/keyboardist Joe Marcinek, known for his Dead Funk Summit and electrifying collaborations that blend funk, Dead, jazz, and blues. For this San Francisco throwdown, Marcinek assembles an all-star lineup: Angeline Saris, Dylan Teifer (Steely Dead), Jerry Saracini, Jeff Hobbs, and Jen Freebairn.

Kicking off the music is Moody Cat, a funkadelic jam-soul outfit from the NorCal foothills featuring the guitar heroics of Sean Lehe (Jellybread, Poor Man’s Whiskey). With old-school funk vibes and a fresh jamband approach, Moody Cat sets the tone for a full-day street party.

Schedule
12:00 pm — Welcome, “gates” open (Harlan Lane closed to traffic)
