The last day of the Music on the Mesa festival started a tad later than the previous days because of Saturday’s late night set. Festivalgoers were up in the early afternoon, getting food and beers, and making their way down to the main stage to see the Slow Motion Cowboys. You wouldn’t know that this band is based in San Francisco by the original songs they write with a laid-back country sound. Their music is heartfelt, well played, and deeply honest.
Justin Townes Earle has announced additional tour dates in North America this fall, including shows in Nashville, Atlanta, and Dallas. These new dates follow his upcoming September and October tour in support of the imminent release of his new album, Single Mothers.

Saturday was the day that the looming threat of rain finally hit the festival. A strong downpour from noon to four postponed the entire day back an hour, however, it didn’t shut down the event or cancel any performances. In fact, it provided a nice cloud canopy of protection from the sun for most of the day. Dedicated fans that stood in the rain for an hour waiting for the gates to open were rewarded with an impromptu acoustic performance by My Morning Jacket when they were finally allowed in.
