Flashback to 1972. It’s been a tremendously busy year for the American Rock band the Grateful Dead. Solidifying their identity as “American” the boys (and Donna) traveled to Europe for a 22 show multiple country engagement including East and West Germany, Amsterdam, Lille Fairgrounds, Rotterdam, and beyond. This tour was groundbreaking in Dead evolution, displaying focused and extended jams on newer material such as Playing in the Band, while refining jazzier touches on standby opuses such as Dark Star and The Other One.

The Mickey Hart Band will release their second album in two years on August 13th, 2013, titled Superorganism, just weeks before Hart's 70th Birthday.  On the band's last record, Mysterium Tremendum (2012), Hart sonified light waves from space with the help of NASA and scientists from Penn State and Lawrence Berkeley Labs. Maura McCoy, eldest daughter of former hippie benefactor Don McCoy, has announced that she will produce a feature-length documentary about Olompali State Historic Park, site of the commune established by her father in 1967. “Olompali: A California Story” will be directed by Gregg Gibbs, whose documentary “The Treasures of Long Gone John” premiered at the SXSW Film Festival in 2005.The film will recount the colorful history of the former Rancho Olompali, located 3 miles north of Novato in Marin County.
