Jimkata

In Motion marks the Jimkata's second successful go at an entirely crowd-sourced record and ushers in a new chapter as a trio.

I want to start by emphasizing the importance of keeping an open mind always, but especially when listening to and choosing live music to see. Throughout all of my years of seeing a lot of live music, I have always listened before I judged, and it has afforded me the ability to discover bands and performers that I would have never known about. On the other hand, I know countless people that either stereotype, pigeon hole themselves, or scan lineups and then comment as if they have already attended the event.

Jimkata has released, Feel in Light, a four-track EP recorded with producer Jocko Randall at his MoreSound Studios in Syracuse, who also produced the band’s last full-length album, 2012’s Die Digital. Feel In Light represents the continued evolution of Jimkata, exploring themes of love, triumph and appreciating second chances in life. Jimkata’s refined electro-rock sound is one of a band that has found its voice after years of experimentation.

Jimkata has released their first official live album, 10 More Songs!, which documents the long miles and countless hours spent honing newer compositions and reworking old favorites. The album features 14 tracks recorded in 2012/2013 at many of their favorite New York venues, paying homage to their home state.

Wrapping up a busy summer with sets at Summer Camp, Gathering of the Vibes, Rootwire and the approaching Catskill Chill Music Festival, Jimkata announces the release of their first official live album, 10 More Songs!, due out in October.

Jimkata has announced dates for their Summer 2013 tour along with several festival appearances including Summer Camp, Gathering of the Vibes and Catskill Chill. The band has also released a video for Die Digital’s catchy hit electro-pop single, “Chain Store.” Coming off a Winter Tour that took the Ithaca, NY-based four-piece to 20 states and landed them a feature on the critically acclaimed music blog Daytrotter, Jimkata is currently working on a live album set for release in the Fall of 2013.

Listening to northeastern synth-tinged rock band Jimkata, it’s obvious that these boys want to add their own special blend of spice to the standard of indie fare that’s become business-as-usual in an increasingly predictable genre.
