Few venues in the world are finer places to see live music than Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado. On a clear summer night under a bright moon with a cool breeze, few places are finer to be, period. It's no secret that some of the best music, or at least the most outspoken, comes out of times of turmoil. The 60's and 70's were a heyday for such music, much of it politically righteous and fervently anti-establishment. But there was a lot to be righteous about back then, and in times when there is so much to be upset about, people find that they have much to say.

One thing you can say about guitar virtuoso Greg Howe is he doesn't always take himself seriously. His recent release, Sound Proof, sports a cover of him in the act of trashing a guitar and a speaker. The back also boasts an image of him sitting with a pair of earphones on, screaming as if the sound is way too much.

On Tuesday July 22nd, SoCal based band Pepper released their new album, Pink Crustaceans and Good Vibrations. Originally from Hawaii, the band brought their island rhythms and sounds with them to the mainland a few years back after they were noticed by a Los Angeles based indie record label.
A little while back, I posted a simple note underneath a photo I had posted on my Flickr page, a photo of the two-man electro-fusion band BoomBox, stating that I predicted people would be hearing more about this band in the future. Little did I know at the time that not only would my prophecy come true in fairly rapid order, but that it would be me who did the telling.
This is hands down one of the cleanest, best sounding soundboards I've ever heard of a Jerry Garcia Band show. As you may know, Jerry never authorized recording of any incarnation of the Jerry Garcia Band, so most recordings in circulation are stealth audience recordings. Soundboard patches were few and far between, so everyone in current circulation is like gold to me. This one is absolutely perfect, with a pristine mix and gorgeous tone all the way through.
Second in radio station Kool 105's summer concert series, Tuesday night's HippieFest at Fiddler's Green drew less of a crowd than the preceding Chicago/The Doobie Brothers show, but boasted a more lively audience with a far greater mix among age groups.
