Santana

Carlos Santana, to paraphrase a funky expression, “tore the roof off that sucker,” on June 27 at a cool and comfortable evening outing near Sacramento, California. He and the band blasted out of the gate, following a big-screen montage of old Santana Woodstock-era footage, with an exhilarating version of “Soul Sacrifice,” the epic instrumental that made the country sit up and take notice 50 years ago, both on the band’s eponymous first record, as well as the forever indelible version performed at Woodstock.

The year was 1969. Richard Nixon was in the White House. Neil Armstrong was on the Moon. And revolution was in the air. In that backdrop, 500,000 young people gathered on a mid-August weekend in upstate New York for the promise of three days of peace and music. What they experienced at the Woodstock Music and Art Fair was something far greater.

Label it what you will, Salvador Santana is a creator.  Handed a generational gift for creating music, he now steps out as a father and as a producer, musician, and artist of his own right.  His new single, Panic Mode is another collaboration unique to the Santana name but in his own direction, it may not sound what you’d expect a Santana song to sound like. Salvador had a few minutes to chat with June Reedy of Grateful Web to discuss the new single Panic Mode and the collaboration with UK house DJ Felix.

Lockn' Festival is excited to announce Phil Lesh & Friends featuring Carlos Santana.  Lockn' is also announcing the full 2015 line-up and daily schedule.  The four-day festival takes place September 10-13 on the beautiful Oak Ridge and Lockn' Farms in Arrington, Virginia.

The tour kicks off on Friday Mary 23rd in Albany, New York and visits eighteen cities in the USA and Canada, culminating in Wantaugh, New York on August 20th.
