After over a decade of relentless touring and recording in all but complete obscurity, the Texas-bred quasi-collective suddenly found itself held up by the press and public as one of the major figures in the jazz world. But as the category names for all five of the band’s Grammy® awards would indicate (Best R&B Performance in 2014, Best Contemporary Instrumental Album in 2016, 2017, 2021, and 2023), Snarky Puppy isn’t exactly a jazz band. It’s not a fusion band, and it’s definitely not a jam band.

The 5x Grammy-winning jazz ensemble Snarky Puppy has added a date to their upcoming world tour – Sharkey’s Event Center in Syracuse, New York (on Sunday, June 25), with tickets going on sale Monday, February 20th. This is the group’s first Syracuse performance in several years (and will take place amidst stops at several major music festivals: Victoria Jazz Festival, Saratoga Jazz Festival, TD Toronto Jazz Festival, etc.). Four-time Grammy-winning, genre-defying musical collective Snarky Puppy is set to release their new album Empire Central on September 30 via the band’s own GroundUP Music imprint. Recorded over the course of eight nights in front of a live-in-studio audience at Dallas’ Deep Ellum Art Company, Empire Central consists of 16 all-new tracks heavily influenced by and paying homage to the city that gave birth to the group after they formed while studying in the fabled jazz program at the University of North Texas.
