Once again, paths to music, wonder, and joyful celebration converged in early July at the four-day High Sierra Music Festival in the small mountain town of Quincy, California, where the elevation is twice the number of the population. Headlined by Sturgill Simpson, The String Cheese Incident, Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Grace Potter, George Porter Jr., Melvin Seals and more, this was the 28th High Sierra Fest. and the 20th at the county fairgrounds in Quincy.

Friday, June 8th was the first full day of Bonnaroo 2018. The Forecastle Festival celebrated 15 years at sea this year with headlining acts Odesza, LCD Soundsystem, and Weezer. Although they set sail 15 years ago, fans are still discovering unique quirks about the festival each year. Did you know their lost and found carries over each year? So, if you lost a glow stick in 2016, you could have potentially salvaged it in 2017. Did you know there is a parenting tent where parents can change or feed their babies in a quiet and shaded environment?

Sturgill Simpson will join Guns N’ Roses on select stadium tour dates this August including Denver’s Mile High Stadium on August 2, Little Rock’s AR War Memorial Stadium on August 5 and Miami’s Marlins Stadium on August 8.

After further listening one can hear he is a phenomenon with his own unique flavor of Americana. Simpson is trailblazing his own path to musical success.

Never have I felt more back at home in the cow town, country music-listening, tobacco-chewing, horse-riding, bar-fighting town I grew up in than at the Sturgill Simpson concert at the Ogden Theater in Denver last Friday night. It causes me to wonder: why have country music and psychedelic drug use not met before the visionary Strugill Simpson?
