Nearly three-quarters of a century after Woody Guthrie pressed “record” in his Brooklyn apartment, 35 of those intimate reels are stepping into the spotlight. Woody At Home – Volumes 1 & 2 lands August 14 via Shamus Records (the new imprint of TRO Essex Music Group, Guthrie’s longtime publisher), offering 22 never-before-heard recordings—including 13 songs the folk icon captured nowhere else—and three revealing spoken-word tracks.

In 2012 John McCutcheon released an album honoring Woody Guthrie’s 100th birthday. In 2015 he released an album in memory of the 100th anniversary of labor songwriter Joe Hill’s execution by the state of Utah. Then in 2019 he honored Pete Seeger’s 100th birthday by gathering a boatload of his music friends and putting new twists on Seeger classics.  These recordings were interspersed with albums of songs from his own prolific catalogue.

On August 14, 2025, the dust-jacket comes off a hidden corner of American folk history when Woody At Home – Volumes 1 & 2 arrives via Shamus Records.

On July 18, Jalopy Records will release Homegrown, the eagerly awaited new album from Cole Quest & The City Pickers – the folk-bluegrass ensemble led by Woody Guthrie’s grandson. Self-described as “roots music for the modern city,” Homegrown fuses three classic Guthrie compositions with richly wrought originals by Quest and select gems from the broader American songbook.

Cole Quest & the City Pickers trace a direct line from Woody Guthrie’s Dust Bowl ballads to the bustling streets of New York City on their richly imagined new album, Homegrown (Jalopy Records, July 18). Led by Woody’s grandson, Cole Quest, this ensemble distills the hearty spirit of folk and bluegrass while carving out its own contemporary voice.

“Stepping Into the Unknown,” a new exhibition featuring props and costumes from James Mangold’s eight-time Oscar-nominated film “A Complete Unknown” from Searchlight Pictures, starring Timothée Chalamet, will open February 28 at the Bob Dylan Center and Woody Guthrie Center in Tulsa.
