Jazz pianist/composer Nicholas Bridgman made the best of the coronavirus restrictions by connecting with a band on the online jamming site, Jamkazam. While unable to perform live locally, Bridgman met guitarist Craig Hall, bassist Dan Koloski, and drummer Jim O'Sullivan in various virtual jam sessions. Their playing appealed and they all showed interest in devoting over a year to recording tracks from their home studios around the U.S.

California guitarist Ethan Sherman has announced his new album Indoor Vistas, a dynamic and diverse collection out March 4 that mingles new music for bluegrass band with guitar- orchestra fantasias that transport the listener to imaginary places. Indoor Vistas is both a celebration of community collaboration and a “pandemic record” sculpted from scratch in a quiet room for months on end, and offers a surrealist take on the possibilities of the classic bluegrass ensemble.

New York based singer songwriter Juliet Varnedoe developed her musical foundation in the bayou lands of southeast Louisiana surrounded by Cajun French, New Orleans jazz, and Acadian traditional songs. Her years of performance in New York cabaret clubs and swing dance halls solidifies her stage persona as a Cajun French chanteuse, a unique American voice sharing the joie de vivre of the Cajun people.

As Dave Navarro (Jane’s Addiction) and Billy Morrison (Billy Idol) look forward to the fourth “ABOVE GROUND” benefit concert later this year (date TBA), the guitarists and “ABOVE GROUND” co-founders want to thank the artists who supported the third event last month (December 20) at The Fonda Theatre in Hollywood, CA, the fans who attended and the team involved in putting together another successful benefit.

BELL JAR is ANGELA SCLAFANI’s forthcoming single that blends her pop sensibility with compelling flares of folk and americana. Inspired by Sylvia Plath’s 1963 novel, the song uses literary imagery to encourage the listener to “shatter” the conventions that hold them down- be it family, lover, or state of mind. The single features production and instrumentation by producer/songwriter Katie Buchanan.

What’s in a name? Who knows, according to four guys sitting around a room temperature case of Natty Boh, it’s the road that takes you home. In 2012, three days before their first performance at Honfest in Baltimore, they needed a name. Idling at the traffic light just outside of the practice space, contemplating pages of proposed names with a fateful glance up to the glowing sign above, “Old Eastern” was born.

Sorry to report Dead and Company have now cancelled their upcoming shows in Mexico.  With the recent news John Mayer has contracted Covid-19 and Billy Kreutzmann staying home to rest up it seemed almost inevitable the shows might not happen.

Now we'll standby until we get some updates on how John and Billy are doing and hopefully some big summer tour news in the coming weeks.
