Dead fans will not be allowed to park or camp overnight on land outside of Soldier Field, a spokesman for the arena said today.  With thousands of anticipated ticketless fans heading to Chicago for the 4th of July weekend, and hotels already sold out or very expensive, this could end up causing some troubles for what we all hope will be a wonderful weekend of music with our friends and family.

 

 

Musical titans Bobby Braddock, Willie Dixon, Robert Hunter & Jerry Garcia, Toby Keith, Cyndi Lauper and Linda Perry will become the latest inductees of the Songwriters Hall of Fame at the organization’s 46th Annual Induction and Awards Dinner.  These legendary songwriters wrote such mega-hits as “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” “Hoochie Coochie Man,” “Dark Star,” “Should’ve Been A Cowboy,” “Time After Time,” and “Beautiful.” The star-studded induction event is slated for Thursday, June 18th at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.  Additional special

Today we lost jazz legend Dave Brubeck, age 91, to heart failure at a Norwalk, Connecticut hospital.   Brubeck, whose tricky time signatures and extended improvisation jams transcended the swing rhythm of the 50's and 60's had an extensive career spanning six decades and he continued to pursue his musical career until this day.  Brubeck would have been 92 on Thursday.  Our thoughts and wishes go out to Brubeck's family, friends and fans.

String Cheese Incident has announced their plans for New Years Eve 2012!  For the first time in fifteen years, SCI will play their home state for New Years Eve at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, Colorado.

Flatpicking legend, Doc Watson, died today at age 89.  Watson, a 7 time Grammy winner, was an influence to countless acoustic musicians, including Jerry Garcia, Peter Rowan, Tony Rice, Bela Fleck and many more. Born in Deep Gap, North Carolina, originally as Arthel Lane Watson, but later known as 'Doc' Watson (Doc was told he needed an easier name to remember - a fan yelled out 'Doc' at a show and it stuck), would become a pioneer in flatpicking guitar, and with a rich baritone voice, his sound would epitomize the Appalachian sound.  Doc co

Outside Lands has announced their 2012 lineup.  This year's headliners include: Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Metallica, Stevie Wonder, Foo Fighters, Skrillex, Jack White and many more.Outside Lands will take place in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park on August 10th - 12th, 2012."“Hear ye, hear ye! Earl Scruggs, who made famous three-finger banjo-picking, and who in 1945 joined Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys died yesterday at age 88.  Scruggs born in Shelby, North Carolina played in Monroe's Blue Grass Boys until 1948, when he left the Blue Grass Boys and he & guitarist, Lester Flatt, combined to form Flatt and Scruggs.Scruggs, perhaps best known for his tune 'The Ballad of Jed Clampett,' for the TV Show The Beverly Hillbillies, and the grammy winning 'Foggy Mountain Breakdown' was a pioneer in bluegrass music.

Going to see Yonder Mountain String Band in your t-shirt and shorts in February is pretty special, especially when you’re from Boulder. I was lucky enough to catch YMSB last night, which for me is fortuitous timing considering I am in town visiting my mom (and planning a monster trip to The Galapagos next week).

The Motet is bringing back their highly acclaimed "Funk is Dead" gig back to the Boulder Theater on April 21st, 2012.  If you haven't seen this show yet, now is the time to get your tickets.  Last year's Halloween show sold-out well over a month before the show.  Funk and Dead on the 4/20 weekend!
