The Sweet Lillies' music is, first and foremost, heartfelt and collaborative.  Those defining traits are given life by the trio of musicians who make up the Lillies, Julie Gussaroff, Becca Bisque, and Dustin Rohleder, who have combined their individual strengths together to deliver powerful narratives of life in song. With their acoustic string-band lineup of guitar, viola, and upright bass given flight by ethereal, vocal harmonies that float like a dream, the Sweet Lillies' music has an old-time soul with a forward-looking eye. The Sweet Lillies have incorporated all of their cumulative life-experiences into their music, their song-writing, and their artistry, crafting an uncommonly-beautiful style they have christened String-Americana - a nod to the band’s all encompassing musical tastes and willingness to experiment with genres. As Gussaroff explains, “Some musicians learn from teachers, some learn from family members, and some are self taught. Some musicians are classically trained, some come up through folk, some draw from multiple springs, from hip hop through pop to bebop. In the Lillies' all of these skill sets are valuable, relevant, and appreciated.”

The Sweet Lillies are built upon their collaborative ideals and are always ready to share a stage or develop a project with any musicians who share the same no-holds barred creative approach.  This has made each one of their inventive, energetic live-shows a wholly unique event as setlists are changed on the fly, songs are given new life and shape, and guests are always welcome to join in the creative explosion.  Those on-stage partnerships create a space for incorporating instruments, arrangements, and styles that aren't necessarily typical of the genre, but that help create a rich, compelling sound that defies easy categorization.  Over the years they have been joined onstage by a number of legendary performers including, Sam Bush, George Porter Jr., Peter Rowan, Sally Van Meter, Andy Hall from the Infamous Stringdusters, Kyle Hollingsworth and Jason Hahn from the String Cheese Incident, Jennifer Hartswick, and Natalie Cressman from the Trey Anastasio Band, among many others.  Andy Thorn from Leftover Salmon who has sat in on many of those live adventures says, “It’s always a joy to play with the Sweet Lillies. Over the years, I’ve seen them evolve from a folk-and-bluegrass group into a genre-bending powerhouse. Today, at a Lillies show, you’ll hear everything from their beautiful, soulful originals, to creative reinventions of your favorite 90s hip-hop tracks. They’re always ready to have fun - on stage and off - without losing an ounce of their professionalism.”

The Sweet Lillies were born from Gussaroff’s desire to form a band in which each member would be an equal participant in terms of songwriting, singing, and creative input.  After years of accompanying other artists, serving as a side player, and writing songs for others, multi-instrumentalist and classical trained vocalist Gussaroff wanted to establish a true musical-collective that would highlight the best qualities of all involved.  In 2014 Gussaroff met Bisque, who was a classically trained violist.  The two found an immediate and deep musical connection and the Sweet Lillies were born.  In 2017 at a campground jam at the Hangtown Ball they heard guitarist Rohleder.  That night the three played for what they remembered as, “Ten magical hours.”  The following year in 2018, Rohleder joined the Sweet Lillies full-time completing Gussaroff’s vision.

Since forming in 2013 the Sweet Lillies have released two albums, 2016’s self-titled release, and 2018’s A Lighter Hue produced by Leftover Salmon’s Vince Herman.  They are set to release their new album, Common Ground, produced by Railroad Earth’s Tim Carbone, later this year.

Common Ground stays true to the beliefs that Gussaroff and the Sweet Lillies adhere to.  She explains, “String band music is compelling.  What makes it so universally appealing is the way it lends itself to effective fusion of diverse styles, skill-sets and conceptions.”  On Common Ground the Sweet Lillies take that notion to heart and do just that with an album that exemplifies their collective spirit and pulls from all the varied arrows in the band’s quiver.  On Common Ground the Sweet Lilles stay true to the string-band soul that is at the heart of their music, but prove they are also unafraid to explore all corners of their distinct musical experiences.  The album moves seamlessly from the horn-driven title-track “Common Ground,” to the gentle “Breath to the Birds,” to the hard-driving “Brother’s Hill,” to the band’s own unique, rootsy take on rap “In Love With the World,” (with a beat made by Jeff Franca from Thievery Corporation).  Common Ground masterfully incorporates those diverse genres and voices into their own universe, creating an aural-soundscape that is at the same time both new and familiar.  Producer Carbone sums it up best, “The world needs a band like The Sweet Lillies, whose music is positive without denying the darkness in the world.  Their songs are uplifting but they also invite the listener to be introspective and draw their own conclusions.  Like all great music it does so while taking you on a journey of joy.  I live to make records like this with dedicated, focused artists and I can't wait for the world to hear it.”

Denver-based String-Americana group The Sweet Lillies continue to roll out their fourth studio album Equality with the release “Clear Water” available today via Americana Vibes. Keeping the theme of self-exploration and evolution of the spirit, the track reflects on guitarist, Dustin Rohleder’s upbringing on a family farm and the merger between one’s past and present to become their true self. Listen to the track HERE ahead of Equality’s June 2nd release.

Bassist and vocalist Julie Gussaroff reveals the unique way in which the song was written, “ I simply asked Dustin our guitar player to describe his upbringing on his family farm,” she states, “As he talked I wrote. The song describes him being torn between leaving the farm to find his own life and staying on the farm with his family. Dustin comes from generational farmers and deep roots hold him strong. Becoming his true self requires incorporating his past into his present and becoming a true intermingling of both.”

Recorded at Mighty Fine Productions in the band’s hometown of Denver, Colorado, Equality is an intrepid collection of songs that represents the current and evolved sound of the band. Comprised of core members Julie Gussaroff (Upright Bass, Vocals, Guitar & Mandolin), Becca Bisque (Viola, Vocals & Percussion), Dustin Rohleder (Guitar & Vocals), and Jones Maynard (Drums & Percussion), the band enlisted GRAMMY-award winner Chris Pandolfi of The Infamous Stringdusters to produce the album and it features guest appearances by Kyle Hollingsworth of The String Cheese Incident on keys and Jason Hann of The String Cheese Incident on additional drums.

On working with the band on their forthcoming album, Pandolfi says, “Every band that makes meaningful music over a long career will go through concentrated moments of evolution, where most aspects of their sound and vision take a huge leap forward, seemingly in a moment's time. 'Equality,' the excellent new album from the Lillies, is a coming of age for this up-and-coming band. From hip-hop-inspired writing to an expansive new sound featuring guest Jason Hann from String Cheese on drums, this record makes a powerful statement that will surely catch the attention of new ears. Becca, Julie, and Dustin all brought their A game, laying down emotive, compelling live tracks in the studio, exceeding expectations at every turn. It was an honor to produce 'Equality,' and I can't wait to see where it takes The Sweet Lillies.”

Equality features 12 brand new compositions by the quartet that explore themes of social justice, self-exploration, and evolution of the spirit, which make for an aptly titled new release. Andy Hall of The Infamous Stringdusters has collaborated with GRAMMY-award-winning guitarist Billy Strings in his newest single “Muscle Car,” off of his forthcoming album Squareneck Soul out via Americana Vibes on June 23rd. With an uptempo, high-powered display of Hall’s virtuosity on dobro and Strings’ electrifying picking guitar performance, the new single is accompanied by an animated, video game-themed music video depicting a pixelated Hall in a red Ford Mustang that is powered by a magic dobro. On a quest to make it to a performance, the journey takes him through the mountains of Colorado, the Grand Canyon, and outer space before the apex of the chase finds him soaring above the California Aqueduct in Ventura County successfully completing the expedition to the show. You can watch the video HERE.

Joined by fellow Infamous Stringduster Travis Book on bass, rising bluegrass star Sierra Hull on mandolin, and prodigious banjoist Wes Corbett of Sam Bush Band, Hall presents 10 new compositions in Squareneck Soul that are meant to serve as templates for improvisation and pickin’. He aims to showcase the evolution and awareness of the dobro as the title alludes to a squareneck dobro/resonator guitar which is set up with a high nut to be played with a bar or a slide, only in lap style, making the instrument both audibly and visually memorable.

“I love being an ambassador for this weird, strange instrument,” says Hall, “When people hear the sound of the instrument and see it, they light up. I don’t think people are exposed to it much and I just love seeing reactions to it.”

The release of Squareneck Soul comes after a 2020 solo album 12 Bluegrass Classics for Resophonic Guitar, a collection of classic bluegrass songs and influences that inspired his musical journey and his 2021 ambient album A Universe Within created out of curiosity and catharsis during the pandemic. However, this is his first full band release under his own name since his 2008 release The Sound of Slide Guitar which won Instrumental Recorded Performance of the Year at the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Awards.

Hall will be on the road with The Infamous Stringdusters for the duration of the summer with a slew of club shows and festival dates that include appearances at Suwannee Spring Reunion, Charm City Bluegrass Festival, DelFest, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, and more.

Colorado-based string Americana group The Sweet Lillies have unveiled their new full-length record Equality available now via Americana Vibes. With overarching themes of self-exploration, social justice, and evolution, the quartet presents 12 brand new songs produced by Chris Pandolfi of The Infamous Stringdusters and recorded at the iconic Mighty Fine Productions in Denver, CO. Equality features guest appearances by Jason Hann (drums) and Kyle Hollingsworth (keyboards) further cementing The Sweet Lillies’ upswing with co-signs and collaborations by sought-after musicians on the nationally touring circuit and developing a road warrior reputation of their own.

The band's depth of songwriting and their own evolution as a unit is showcased throughout the duration of Equality. Guitarist and vocalist Dustin Rohleder reflects on his journey of leaving home in search of finding himself through travel experiences that awaken the mind and soul in “Candles” and deepens that exploration in “18 Wheels” which is a metaphor using the concept of a tractor-trailer to describe the experience of being a lone wolf in search of your life. “It is a diesel-soaked narrative of a man reaching further than he has ever reached before to find his inner self,” he reflects. The potency of Rohleder’s self-discovery is affirmed through the unique songwriting process of “Clean Water” where bassist and vocalist Julie Gussaroff asked him to describe his upbringing on his family farm. As he talked, she wrote, describing his journey of being torn between leaving the farm to find his own life and staying with his family of generational farmers and deep roots.

Violist Becca Bisque unfurls words of wisdom when it comes to standing up for yourself and the world around you. The album’s lead single “Words” is about overcoming self-doubt. “In this song, I question the use of language and its implications—asking when it is best to speak up and when it is best to be an observer—what is the result of those choices? Self-exploration and self-discovery as it relates to our words is the nature of this piece.” “Tables Turning” surveys learning one’s place in the community and society as a whole when it comes to societal norms and social expectations. The lyrics traverse through finding your true self examining how you fit in the world around you. Capping off themes of social justice, the title track “Equality” is Gussaroff’s antidote detailing growing up with parents who were social activists and learning how to treat people from all walks of life with love and respect. Affirming the powerful note, she asserts, “I believe someday we can live in a safe and equal society all we need do is work together. We must make reparations where needed and put all people on equal footing. We must fight the ideas that some people matter and others do not. All people are sacred and all people must be equal for us all to live in safety and peace.”

Outside of the examinational and uplifting lyrics, the band’s musical chemistry is firmly on display as evidenced by the careful balance between preparation, detailed songwriting, and organic moments of improvisation & spontaneity in the studio helmed by Chris Pandolfi’s production prowess. On his experience laying down drums with The Sweet Lillies, Jason Hann states, "I had an amazing time in the studio with The Sweet Lillies and Chris Pandolfini. It’s great the way the songs came together on the spot, leaving room for creativity and taking things to another level in the studio. The instant musical communication all around lent itself to a great playing flow. It was beautiful to be a part of this project!"

Of the final product and working with the group from start to finish, Pandolfi declares, “Every band that makes meaningful music over a long career will go through concentrated moments of evolution, where most aspects of their sound and vision take a huge leap forward, seemingly in a moment's time. Equality, the excellent new album from the Lillies, is a coming of age for this up-and-coming band. From hip-hop-inspired writing to an expansive new sound featuring guest Jason Hann from String Cheese on drums, this record makes a powerful statement that will surely catch the attention of new ears. Becca, Julie and Dustin brought their A game, laying down emotive, compelling live tracks in the studio, exceeding expectations at every turn. It was an honor to produce 'Equality,' and I can't wait to see where it takes The Sweet Lillies.”

Pandolif’s statement is backed up by a consistent touring schedule where the band has been road-testing the new songs and promoting the upcoming new album. Andy Hall of The Infamous Stringdusters has collaborated with 3x GRAMMY-award-winning mandolinist Ronnie McCoury on his brand new single “Skunk Weed,” out today via Americana Vibes. This is the third and final single release before his brand new record Squareneck Soul is released on June 23rd, his first full band solo effort since his 2008 album The Sound of Slide Guitar which won Instrumental Recorded Performance of the Year at the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Awards.

“Skunk Weed” is a funky, bluesy song that leaves plenty of room for improvisation and interplay between musicians. In titling every track on the new album, Hall reveals that he found it to be an artistic process to come up with words that sonically represented each song. This tune has a free-flowing, almost humorous nature, so he found “Skunk Weed” to aptly represent the exchange between himself, McCoury, and the musicians on the album. Joining Hall on Squareneck Soul are fellow Stringduster Travis Book on bass, rising bluegrass star Sierra Hull on mandolin, and prodigious banjoist Wes Corbett of Sam Bush Band,

Each of the 10 new compositions on Squareneck Soul are meant to serve as templates for improvisation and pickin’. Composed during a 3-4 week period, Hall was not only committed to connecting with three of his favorite musicians and people he genuinely enjoys being around but continue to be an ambassador of the dobro, highlighting it as a solo instrument and presenting it in different settings. Prior to Squareneck Soul, Hall released his first ambient music effort A Universe Within in 2021 during pandemic downtime and a fully solo record 12 Bluegrass Classics for Resophonic Guitar in 2020, a collection of classic bluegrass songs and influences that inspired his musical journey.

Hall and The Infamous Stringdusters are coming off of key festival plays at Charm City Bluegrass Festival and DelFest as they prepare for a slew of additional appearances at Telluride Bluegrass Festival, High Sierra Music Festival, Earl Scruggs Music Festival, and more. Additionally, the band recently announced their own festival The "Infamous" Weekend featuring 4+ sets of music by the group taking place at Pop's Farm in Martinsville, VA.

Today, Andy Hall of The Infamous Stringdusters has revealed his highly anticipated solo album Squareneck Soul. Available via Americana Vibes, his first full band venture since his 2008 critically acclaimed The Sound of Slide Guitar finds him in good company recruiting fellow titans of today’s bluegrass scene Travis Book (The Infamous Stringdusters) on bass, Sierra Hull on mandolin, and Wes Corbett (Sam Bush Band) on banjo. The record also features guest appearances from guitar sensation Billy Strings on “Muscle Car” and 3x GRAMMY-award-winning mandolinist Ronnie McCoury on “Skunk Weed."

To commemorate the release of the album, Hall has released a riveting solo performance video recorded at Etown Hall in Boulder, Colorado. Featuring just him and his dobro, Hall showcases a stunning display of fervor and expertise of the instrument in the emotive performance of the title track “Squareneck Soul” which can be viewed HERE.

Composed during a 3-4 week period leading up to the session, Hall set a goal to write 10 brand new compositions that can serve as devices for improvisation. He collaborated with Book, Hull, and Corbett not just because of their virtuosity, but because they are musicians he genuinely enjoys being around and who can improvise with roots that are well-versed in the traditions of bluegrass, but delves outside through their own intuition and curiosity. Through the release of the album and a common thread throughout all of his performing endeavors, Hall is rooted in an ethos to be an ambassador for the dobro, an instrument that often piques curiosity and is not found to be the lead instrument in many solo recordings.

Of the creative process and final outcome of Squareneck Soul, he says, "Squareneck Soul is truly a project from my heart and my soul—a slide guitar record 15 years in the making. In June of 2022, I got fired up and wrote every day until I had the tunes I thought would work well for this project. I crafted them as a template for improvisation and hoped to get some of my favorite players to join. I’m grateful that I was able to get some of the best to join me! Writing and playing dobro music is one of my absolute favorite things to do, and I hope folks enjoy listening to this as much as I enjoyed making it."

When naming the songs, Hall expresses that titling instrumental songs can be a challenge, but he enjoys the process. “Naming songs is an artistic process to come up with words that reflect the songs,” he says, “It’s challenging but fun, and you eventually land on the perfect fit.” This practice is aptly practiced in the Billy Strings feature, “Muscle Car,” where Hall heard the dark and driving nature of the composition lend itself to Billy’s own style and named the track after a vintage muscle car Billy drove to the studio. “Ancient Footsteps” is a perfect juxtaposition with its dreamy and melancholy nature. The easy listening “Seriously, It’s Going to Be Fine” is a feel-good song inspired by Book’s poised sentiments during a band email expressing verbatim that everything was going to be just fine. Hall leans into his Colorado home base in finding inspiration for “Crooked Mountain Top,” the most traditional bluegrass-feeling song on the album. He turned to Google Maps to find a lesser-known mountain in Colorado and landed on the perfect name that depicted the closing track on the album.

Hall and The Infamous Stringdusters continue the momentum of a vigorous touring schedule coming off of an appearance at the esteemed Telluride Bluegrass Festival last weekend and headed into key plays at High Sierra Music Festival, Earl Scruggs Music Festival, and more. Additionally, the band recently announced their own festival The "Infamous" Weekend featuring 4+ sets of music by the group taking place at Pop's Farm in Martinsville, VA.

Andy Falco and Travis Book of The Infamous Stringdusters have teamed up to honor one of their biggest musical influences, Jerry Garcia, through a collaborative album Falco and Book Play Jerry Garcia available on August 4th via Americana Vibes. Today, they have released their rendition of the fan favorite “New Speedway Boogie” stripping the sound of the Grateful Dead classic down to its core using just acoustic guitar, upright bass, and vocal harmonies to lean into the nuances.

Originally conceived as a live project, the project garnered so much admiration from fans that Falco and Book felt a duty to capture these duo arrangements in the studio for all the world to hear. For both Falco and Book, the album signifies not only growing up with the music of Jerry Garcia, but commitment to exploring his music through a lens of traditional music styles such as bluegrass, blues, country, and bluegrass. “Musicians don’t exist in a vacuum, songs and style don’t just materialize spontaneously— everyone is a product of the music that they’ve heard, loved and internalized,” says Book, “Doc Watson called his music “Traditional plus, which means traditional music and everything else I’ve ever heard. Traditional music forms, like Jazz, Blues, Country, or Bluegrass are styles all their own.”

Falco continues, “I grew up listening to Jerry Garcia, in all of his different bands and projects, and that’s the music that has had the biggest impact on me and along with other traditional music like Blues and Bluegrass, informs my style and aesthetic. So while someone who grows up around Bluegrass or Country may point to that as their tradition, the Grateful Dead, specifically Jerry Garcia, is my tradition.”

The duo have announced three shows to present the material off of the new record in Red Hook, NY; Berkeley, CA; and Sellersville, PA. Falco and Book will join their bandmates in The Infamous Stringdusters as they continue a robust summer touring schedule with notable festival plays including Telluride Bluegrass Festival, High Sierra Bluegrass Festival, and more. Colorado-based bluegrass & Americana quintet Wood Belly have released “Play Me Out,” a brand new single that celebrates a  new chapter of an expanded lineup with the additions of drummer Dylan French and bassist & vocalist Brennan Mackey. Available today via Americana Vibes, the track is the first studio material to be unveiled with the new lineup with more to come over the course of 2023 and beyond.

“Play Me Out” signifies the range of emotions and spiraling thoughts of a past lover showing up to a party with somebody new. Branching out beyond the lyrics, it’s a sonic representation of harkening back to familiar roots while reaping momentum to push forward in a new direction mirroring Wood Belly’s trajectory. The band explains, “It’s a song that has one foot in the past and one in the present. Heartache set to fast-paced happy-sounding music has been a persistent theme in bluegrass. This modern version of the story takes place at a party when your ex shows up with someone new, yet it’s got party anthem vibes throughout. Musically it bridges a similar gap. There is driving banjo and great trio singing, but it also features drums, a modern chord progression, and a non-traditional singer.  It also sums up the story of the band. Until now Wood Belly had been a string band, and this is the first step in a new direction."

Wood Belly garnered both local and touring circuit attention by winning the 2018 Telluride Bluegrass Festival band competition and a nomination at the 2018 IBMA Momentum Awards. The new additions in the rhythm section accentuate their unrelenting dedication to original songwriting, prowess for harmony, and artful arrangements that delve through new grass, alt-country, rock, and improvisational music. Both French and Mackey are veterans on the scene with French having a reputation for versatility and adaptability performing with the likes of Kaepora, Boogie Mammoth, and more, and Mackey as a staple in the Colorado music scene with his sought-after indie-rock project King Cardinal. They join guitarist Chris Weist, dobroist & lap steel guitarist Chris Zink, and banjoist & guitarist Aaron McCloskey to form a well-rounded, musically telepathic 5-piece ensemble poised for a new chapter and a plethora of new material.

Speaking to their innovative sound, Bluegrass Today has expressed, “Even now, it’s safe to determine that they’re ones to watch...the freshness and vitality they bear elevates their standing and assures their status as instant contenders.”

Wood Belly will support the release of “Play Me Out” with a handful of tour dates that include:

July 28: Copper Creek Square - Winter Park, CO

August 4: The Mishawaka - Bellvue, CO (supporting The Infamous Stringdusters)

This song has now become a staple in our live shows.”

Formed in 2012 by singer-songwriters Grahame Lesh & Elliott Peck and taking their cue from the fertile Bay Area music scene, Midnight North has announced their fifth album Diamonds on the Zodiac, a continuation of their musical direction forged during the release of the group’s 2021 record There’s Always a Story. Today, they share the lead single “The Colors Here” which is a direct testament to their rich Bay Area heritage featuring Phil Lesh on bass. The track is accompanied by a lyric video by Bonez Studios that can be viewed HERE.

In addition to the family bloodlines between Phil and Grahame Lesh, “The Colors Here” is a genuine second-generation family affair as it features Amy Helm, daughter of The Band’s Levon Helm and singer-songwriter Libby Titus, on vocals, The song is filled out by the group’s bassist/vocalist Connor O’Sullivan and guest violinist Jason Crosby.

Elliot based the piano-driven lead single on memories of tornadoes growing up in the midwest along with the Judy Garland movie of Frank Baum’s 'The Wizard of Oz,' where the screen goes from black-and-white to technicolor when Dorothy finds she’s not in Kansas anymore. Elliot details, “‘The Colors Here’ is a song about surviving hardship and being able to experience the beauty on the other side of tragedy. The lyrics play with themes from the book & movie “The Wizard of Oz,” which became one of my favorite movies as a child. The characters, the story and of course that memorable moment when the movie flips from a black & white landscape to one of rich, magnificent color, made a huge impression on me. So did the theme of having a home where you are always welcome to return, no matter where you’ve been and what you’ve been through. It is a precious thing & one I identify with deeply.

The music and lyrics were written while house-sitting for a friend in Denver during the middle of a huge thunderstorm. And when the rain passed and the thunder stopped, I listened back to what I had written & recorded and felt it was something special worth showing the band.”

Along with lending her vocal talents on multiple tracks on the album, Amy Helm also produced the forthcoming record. Of the family lineage and connecting with Amy, Grahame explains, “Things have come full circle in that it was meeting Amy and Levon Helm at a Ramble in the Barn that gave my parents the inspiration to open Terrapin Crossroads, and having Terrapin was so instrumental in the band’s development. And now Amy produced this album and shepherded these songs to their ultimate form.”

The album’s title Diamonds in the Zodiac comes from the unearthed Robert Hunter lyrics for “Jupiter,” one of two extended tracks on the album. It was recorded at Dave Schools’ (Widespread Panic) Spacecamp in Occidental, California and mixed by D. James Goodwin, who has worked with such luminaries as Bob Weir, The Hold Steady, The National, Goose, and Bonny Light Horseman among many others. Besides the elongated forms in “Jupiter” and Graham’s opening “Questions,” the album is increasingly song-oriented and steeped in bluegrass, country, soul, blues, funk, jazz and gospel – a true Americana melting pot.

The cover art was done by Micah Nelson, aka Particle Kid, and Willie Nelson’s son using acrylic paint mixed with floetrol poured on wood.

In anticipation of the album release, Midnight North will continue to embark on a busy summer tour with dates that include:

Andy Falco and Travis Book of The Infamous Stringdusters have teamed up to honor one of their biggest musical influences, Jerry Garcia through a collaborative live album Falco and Book Play Jerry Garcia available now via Americana Vibes. The release comes during the Days Between, the 9-day period between Garcia's birth (August 1st) and death (August 9th) that has come to be an annual celebration in the Deadhead community commemorating his life and work. As evidenced by the album’s focus track, a 10-minute rendition of The Grateful Dead’s “Morning Dew,” Falco & Book handle Garcia’s iconic songbook with care by stripping the classics down to their core using just acoustic guitar, upright bass, and vocal harmonies to lean into the nuances. A visualizer of “Morning Dew” can be viewed HERE.

Originally conceived as a live project, the project garnered so much admiration from fans that Falco and Book felt a duty to capture these duo arrangements for all the world to hear. The acoustic format allows Garcia’s projects from The Grateful Dead to “Dawg music” written in collaboration with David Grisman and everything in between a spaciousness that leaves room for the listener to fill in the spaces with their own musical memory and conceive the tunes with a new, and open mind.

For both Falco and Book, the album signifies not only growing up with the music of Jerry Garcia, but a commitment to exploring his music through a lens of traditional music styles such as bluegrass, blues, country, and bluegrass.

The duo performed selections from the new album and more in Red Hook, NY last month and have two additional dates announced to present the material off of the new in Berkeley, CA; and Sellersville, PA. Denver-based jam-grass band, Morsel, has released “'Scuse Me Miss,” the second single off of their forthcoming album On a Bee Line due out on Americana Vibes on September 29, 2023. Produced by Chris Pandolifi of The Infamous Stringdusters, the album follows up a successful self-titled debut release presenting an elevated sound infusing blues, rock, country, and more into their already eclectic sound leaving listeners anticipating a colorful sonic palette by the rising band on the bluegrass and Americana circuit.

Bassist and vocalist Jack Kotarba reflects on channeling his inner Crosby, Stills & Nash in his decision to write a social commentary tune speaking to feeling adrift and disillusioned by the current state of world affairs, “I’ve had that intro progression for years and have tried to fit so many song variations around it but none seemed to fit. Just so happened I came up with my favorite version of the song around that progression right as we decided to make this album! Lyrically I kind of just said screw it, I’m pissed about the state of things.”

Formed during their college years at the University of Colorado Boulder, Morsel has cultivated a robust following in the Front Range area in Colorado solidifying headline shows in hometown venues such as Boulder Theater and The Fox Theater and supporting the likes of Molly Tuttle, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades, and Yonder Mountain String Band. Midnight North, formed by singer-songwriters Grahame Lesh and Elliott Peck, take their cue from the fertile Bay Area music scene and are set to release their next studio album Diamonds In The Zodiac via Americana Vibes on November 10, 2023. Today, they have released the second single off of the album entitled “Back to California,” which simultaneously reflects on their roots as musical troubadours on the road and an array of musical styles fledged out of Northern California that have influenced the band and paved their musical journey. The new single is accompanied by a music video on a vintage Super 8 camera by Sam Watson that features behind-the-scenes moments from the 2023 summer tour. It depicts the essence of the band's early days as road warriors embarking on their first East Coast tour and recording at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY. Watch the video HERE.

“Back to California” was originally written for the band’s 2017 album, Under the Lights, right after their first East Coast tour that marked one of the longest stretches on the road as a band. Reflective of the imagery featured in the video, Lesh looks back on that time in the band’s career and muses, “It felt like we could claim some of that classic rock and roll imagery of troubadours on the road eating up the miles. The themes are right there on the surface—they touch on a yearning for home that the narrator feels while still feeling the excitement of being out in the world.”

While the lyrics were penned years ago, they still seem to fit on the new collection of songs in Diamonds in the Zodiac as the band changed the key and updated the feel to make it mirror where they are musically today. Nodding to a multitude of Bay Area-influenced artists who inspired Lesh and the band’s songwriting, particularly through both iterations of the new song, he details, “I was influenced by two connected but very different bands while both writing the tune and rearranging it for Diamonds in the Zodiac in 2022. In the past, I was thinking of local heroes the Mother Hips and their “California Soul” from their country-inflected Later Days era. In 2022, I was very influenced by Hiss Golden Messenger and MC Taylor & his band’s immaculate blend of groove with wonderfully composed songs.” The band’s drummer, Nathan Graham, coined the term “Bay Rock” to describe the essence of “Back to California”—a style soaked with roaring, continuous drum grooves with the extra topping of hand percussion anchoring the track evoking the band’s Bay Area roots musically while also being the perfect track to turn up driving through the Robin Williams tunnel from Sausalito to the Golden Gate Bridge. “Back to California” features backing vocals from the entire choir of the full band and extended family of musicians who were at the studio that day, including Phil Lesh, Amy Helm, and touring keyboard player TJ Kanczuzewski.

Diamonds in the Zodiac is a two-generation musical family affair through and through. In addition to Grahame Lesh’s father, Phil Lesh of The Grateful Dead, playing bass on the album’s lead single “The Colors Here” and joining the band on background vocals in “Back to California,” the album was produced by Amy Helm, daughter of The Band’s Levon Helm.

Travis Book, bassist and vocalist of, GRAMMY Award-winning bluegrass ensemble The Infamous Stringdusters, is stepping into uncharted musical territory with his upcoming solo album, Love and Other Strange Emotions. Set to be released via Americana Vibes on October 27, 2023, this album marks a significant departure from his acoustic and bluegrass roots with a no-holds-barred, head-first dive into Americana and Rock music; with more in common with Pink Floyd and Jason Isbell than Flatt & Scruggs and Tony Rice. Today, the new single “Reminds Me of You” is available worldwide giving listeners their first taste of his fresh musical venture.

The melody and lyrics for “Reminds Me of You” came together in a marathon writing session while Book was in Maine that started in the woods on the coast, proceeded through the bar over a plate of steamed clams and a Molsen, continued on an evening drive to Connecticut, and finished at midnight in a hotel room. “I was missing someone and revisiting the memories we’d made on our last trip through Portland. The changing season, the angle of the light, it had me in a mood and I captured it,” he says reflecting on the process and muse.

The journey to Travis Book's solo album began unexpectedly when he invited his friends Jeff Sipe (Aquarium Rescue Unit), Mike Ashworth (Jon Stickley Trio, Steep Canyon Rangers), and Tommy Maher (Fireside Collective) for a casual collaboration during one of his weekly gigs. What started as an experiment to explore new musical boundaries quickly transformed into something extraordinary. After their third performance together, the chemistry and energy were undeniable, leading Travis to realize that this ensemble was destined for something special.

Intrigued by the unique sound this band created, Book began crafting songs specifically tailored to their style while branching out immensely from his comfort zone and traditional bluegrass music—there would be no banjos and fiddles, no upright bass… there wouldn’t even be acoustic guitars; this record was a new sound entirely, birthed from the mind and heart of a musician who, for the first time ever, was the sole voice, the sole producer, and the sole visionary, despite all of his prior accolades with The Infamous Stringdusters and collaborative projects. He delved into his extensive catalog of original compositions, re-recording some previously done with The Infamous Stringdusters and reimagining others that had yet to find their place. Even songs from his earliest work found a new home in this electrifying project.

Reflecting on the album, Book shares, "I made this record because it was time. I'd been writing, performing, and recording music for over 20 years and had yet to make a statement that was purely my own. The previous three years I’d cultivated a weekly gig and played with everyone I could, in every style I could. From some of those sessions emerged a theme and an aesthetic for a grand gesture in the form of an album. It had emerged organically when I asked myself, “If you could do whatever you wanted, what would it be? And if you could sing about whatever you wanted, what would you sing about?”

Answering his own question, he declares, “I'd play a jet-black Gibson ES 135 and front a band of the best musicians in town. I'd sing songs I'd written about love and other (strange) emotions. I'd follow my heart and my instinct with very little compromise, and I'd do it for the love, the challenge, and as an offering to myself and the universe."

In describing the album, Book expresses, "Emotions and thoughts are strange. They feel so close, so real, yet they are separate from ourselves and they materialize then fall away like clouds in a summer sky. They exist only in theory but they create and inform every bit of our experience. If, like me, you've attempted to make sense of them, then I know you'll find something in Love and Other Strange Emotions that resonates and seems familiar."

In addition to his musical endeavors, Book has been captivating audiences through his popular podcast, The Travis Book Happy Hour. The podcast focuses on musical collaboration and conversations around the complexities of being human. The Travis Book Happy Hour features the best of interviews and live music recorded in Brevard, NC, and is presented by Americana Vibes and The Bluegrass Situation with notable guests including Lindsay Lou, Nicki Bluhm, Anders Beck, John Stickley, The Lil Smokies, and more.

As Travis Book embarks on this exciting solo project, Love and Other Strange Emotions promises to be a bold, introspective, and soul-stirring exploration of the human experience giving a candid look into hashing out inner monologues and inviting listeners in on a journey to broaden musical and personal horizons.

Beyond his sheer virtuosity and versatility, drummer Adam Deitch has proven to be a musician of perpetual motion. In just over a year’s time, he has been the driving force behind psychedelic funk veterans Lettuce’s eighth studio album Unify, released a hip-hop beats album 'TAKE YOUR TIME', and now returns with the second LP release from his soul-jazz project The Adam Deitch Quartet entitled Roll The Tape. Available via Deitch’s imprint Golden Wolf Records on November 10, 2023, the forthcoming album exemplifies his unwavering commitment to producing authentic music from a broad spectrum of styles, all rooted in his tutelage of rhythmic studies & groove, and his upbringing as a drummer from a young age. Deitch is joined by organist Wil Blades, Lettuce cohorts Eric “Benny” Bloom on trumpet and Ryan Zoidis on saxophone. The album's second single "Play On Playa" is available today.

Play On Playa" tips its hat to Soulive, the New York-based organ trio comprised of Eric Krasno (guitar), Neal Evans (organ & keyboards), and Alan Evans (drums) who have been instrumental in the modern funk and soul revival scene since their inception in 1999. With its swanky melody and groove-driven organ work gelled together with Deitch's drumming, the tune sounds like it could have come straight out of Soulive's repertoire with Deitch's attention-to-detail and perpetual student-of-music mindset. "I owe so much to Soulive for introducing me to organ trio music," says Deitch, "They've really helped mold the careers of both Lettuce and myself into who we are today."

Roll The Tape was a 1-2 punch effort coming off the heels of Lettuce recording their next full-length album as Blades flew in to join Deitch, Bloom, and Zoidis for a session at Scanhope Sound. Written on ProTools in his home studio in Denver, Colorado, Deitch composed and arranged all parts for the quartet and provided demos for the band to learn on the spot, much like the quartet’s debut LP Egyptian Secrets. “I’d bring the tunes in, play them on the computer, have the guys learn them as fast as possible, and then ‘roll the tape,” Deitch says of the rigor of the back-to-back sessions and marathon studio effort that contrasted the band’s debut effort recorded in two sessions over the course of five years. While the process may seem overwhelming at first glance, Blades speaks to it being a testament to Deitch’s thorough composition process and wholeness as a musician, “I don’t change much of anything at all. All of the harmonies and voicings are spot on. I grew up as a drummer, so the way Adam plays organ is the way I’m already playing organ.”

The quartet was formed when Deitch and Blades joined forces to play a last-minute late-night show at Boom Boom Room in San Francisco after Lettuce performed at The Fillmore and Tedeschi Truck Band performed at Bill Graham Civic Center in December 2013. The impromptu after-show featured an array of special guests including Zoidis and Bloom along with Eric Krasno (Soulive), Maurice “Mo Betta” Brown (Anderson .Paak), and James Casey (Trey Anastasio Band) and Kofi Burbridge (Tedeschi Trucks Band), both who left this earth all too soon. After additional performances at New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and some one-offs, Deitch knew the project had to continue and took the reigns to get the group in the studio.

‘Roll The Tape’ features ten brand-new songs that transcend the traditional organ trio format and are accentuated by Deitch’s prowess for funk, breakbeat, hip-hop, and electronic music experiences coupled with highlighting the strengths of every musician in the group. “Wil and I are both basketball fans and homies. He is highly skilled with the organ pedals and lefthand bass and is super smart and easy to work with. Two decades ago, Broke Mountain Bluegrass Band emerged as a seminal force, igniting the careers of talents associated with renowned acts such as Greensky Bluegrass (Anders Beck), The Infamous Stringdusters (Travis Book), Leftover Salmon (Andy Thorn), and the Jon Stickley Trio (Jon Stickley). Now, they revisit the essence of their formative years with the 20th-anniversary release of 'Cabin in the Hills,' their singular album, recorded by former Ralph Stanley fiddler Dewey Brown. Dubbed as a “Reverse Super Group”, this release captures the invincibility of youth and the essence of a band destined for greatness, acknowledging the birth of a musical entity that indelibly shaped the trajectory of contemporary bluegrass music. Today, the group has released their first ever digital single “I See Through Your Smile,” available now via Americana Vibes on all digital platforms.

As banjoist Andy Thorn recalls, the group was spurred out of a ski trip after being promised free passes at Purgatory spending 32 hours in the car driving straight from Chapel Hill, North Carolina to Durango, Colorado. The first thing on the agenda was heading to Canyon Music Woodworks, which had become a well-known epicenter to check out instruments and gather to promote shows and collaborate. By chance, the shop’s employee (Anders Beck) suggested they jam with him and his bass player friend (Travis Book) while in town. They ended up at Robin Davis’ house later that night to jam and the rest of the serendipitous meeting was history evolving into the creation of Broke Mountain during that fateful summer of 2003.

The band’s trajectory thereafter happened quickly. Anders had convinced Andy to move out to Colorado that next summer to enter the RockyGrass Band Contest and would later bring his guitarist cohort Jon Stickley into the fold inviting him to join him on his journey out west and round out the project. The band went on to have a fruitful year of winning the RockyGrass Band contest; playing a string of festivals; and of course recording Cabin in the Hills. Members of the group would eventually get hand-picked and summoned to join bluegrass luminaries such as Thorn joining Larry Keel & Natural Bridge (and later Leftover Salmon) and Anders, Travis, and Robin joining Benny “Burle” Galloway and keyboardist, Greg Andrulis, for the formation of Wayward Sons, all endeavors that spurred the blossoming careers that have catapulted them into being some of the most notable and respected musicians in today’s modern bluegrass scene.

Despite their trajectory, all members of Broke Mountain Bluegrass Band have always looked back fondly on their formative years and simpatico meeting of the minds that was united by happenstance. “It’s hard to believe that it’s been 20 years since the five of us got together to create this album; and more importantly, the band itself,” Anders Beck reflects, “Listening back to 'Cabin in the Hills,' I hear the invincibility of youth. I hear a band that was planning to take over the world of bluegrass; a band that was going to be a big deal. I hear five friends that thought they were badasses. So now, as we view it through the rearview mirror, it makes me smile to think that maybe we were kind of right.”

Travis Book weighs in, “20 years ago when we recorded this record we had no idea what we were doing but we were learning fast and riding the high of being in a band that clicked, that had a vibe, and that we all intuitively knew was going places. That 20 years on we’re all still making music is remarkable, but harder to believe is that this group of “kids” would go on to forge careers in “bluegrass” and anchor some of the most progressive and successful “bluegrass-ish” bands of our generation. When we put together our 20th Anniversary shows it was clear that our record, which only saw one printing of 1000 CDs, needed to see the light of day and join the catalog of Americana Vibes and the collective works of these musicians. This record and this band was the beginning for the five of us and this re-release of Cabin in the Hills signals the beginning of a new era for Broke Mountain Bluegrass Band.”

To celebrate their first-ever digital and vinyl releases, the band will reunite for two shows at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom in Denver, Colorado on December 1st and 2nd. Tickets can be purchased HERE.

Cabin in the Hills is available on November 3, 2023 and can be pre-saved HERE and pre-ordered HERE.

Beyond his sheer virtuosity and versatility, drummer Adam Deitch has proven to be a musician of perpetual motion. In just over a year’s time, he has been the driving force behind psychedelic funk veterans Lettuce’s eighth studio album 'Unify', released a hip-hop beats album 'TAKE YOUR TIME', and now returns with the second LP release from his soul-jazz project The Adam Deitch Quartet. 'Roll The Tape', available on Deitch’s imprint Golden Wolf Records on November 10, 2023, exemplifies his unwavering commitment to producing authentic music from a broad spectrum of styles, all rooted in his tutelage of rhythmic studies & groove, and his upbringing as a drummer from a young age. The album features organist Wil Blades, Lettuce cohorts Eric “Benny” Bloom on trumpet and Ryan Zoidis on saxophone, and a feature from legendary guitarist John Scofield on the leading single “Mushroom Gravy”.

‘Roll The Tape’ was a 1-2 punch effort coming off the heels of Lettuce recording their next full-length album as Blades flew in to join Deitch, Bloom, and Zoidis for a session at Scanhope Sound.

Zoidis and Bloom always balance each other out with Zoidis bringing a psychedelic vibe with his effects and Benny bringing his wild, crazy Benny attitude as a great musician with great showmanship,” says Deitch.

The lead single “Mushroom Gravy” is a tribute to Deitch’s Grandma Betty’s chicken mushroom gravy. He cites that she was pivotal in his development as a drummer as her brother and his Great Uncle Dave was the first drummer in their family and helped his father, Bobby Deitch, become a professional musician. The track features John Scofield on guitar, who has worked with Deitch since the early 00s and has keen insight into his evolution as a musician and bandleader. “It’s tremendous fun to play with the quartet because they fully understand where I’m coming from and hopefully I “get” them the same way. I think Adam and I have very simpatico concepts in music,” says Scofield of their musical chemistry.

Of their collaborative history and Adam’s inherent impact he imparts with his collaborators, Scofield continues, “When I first played with Adam, I knew he was right for me. This kind of chemistry is hard to come by and I’ve only had it a handful of times in my life. Eric Krasno recommended Adam. When we first played together, I liked it so much that I had to change drummers in the band immediately. The result was Uberjam. This period marked a new direction in my career and without Adam, it wouldn’t have worked as well. I’ve heard him improve and get better - more refined- from that original already great drummer that I met way back when. He’s an excellent musician and one of the very best drummers period. Mad skills.”

“Have Faith” is a gospel-inspired mutual favorite of all members of the quartet. “It’s a tribute to a life-changing experience I had playing in a gospel church in 9th grade,” says Deitch. “I ended up becoming the drummer in two church bands in Nyack, NY where I grew up. Playing with an amazing choir watching them sway from left to right and clapping on two and 4 was amazing to observe when I was 16 or 17 and the rest of the band was in their 30s-50s. It put me ahead and really made me improve when I got to Berklee in 1994 and was pretty experienced in gospel, funk, and R&B music.” With a stunning organ intro by Blades, he nods to the influence Tower of Power transmits on the tune, “It’s also a Tower of Power kind of thing and Deitch is a huge Tower of Power guy. I’m a huge Chester Thompson fan, so this song is right up my alley.”

Not to be confused with the Arthur Schwartz jazz standard, “Alone Together” is an original composition written during the pandemic to express the universal sentiments of everyone being simultaneously isolated. It sees Deitch taking a rare direction with one of the first ballads he’s ever released. “I’m not a huge balladeer,” he explains, “It was peaceful and calming to play this big, beautiful piece with brushes contrasting the funky, hyper music I usually write.” Blades chimes in on the tune being a testament to Deitch’s dedication and musical maturity, “He’s constantly writing music at either 3 in the morning or on the tour bus after For a drummer to write that kind of harmony, it’s another example of him having everything completely fleshed out and finished—it has beautiful harmony and nice horn melody.”

For anyone who has ever had a conversation with Deitch, looked at his social media, or read any press about him, he is one to give credit where credit is due. “Play on Playa” is an example of that as it is a direct tribute to Soulive, longtime friends, and collaborators of the group who were pillars in establishing the modern funk & soul revival in the late 90s/early 00s as East Coast trailblazers. “I owe Soulive so much. They introduced me to organ trio music, helped Lettuce’s career, and molded us into the musicians we are today,” he proclaims.

Like ‘Egyptian Secrets’, ‘Roll The Tape’ features two “Language Interludes” where Deitch is playing solo drums. They are homages to ancient African traditions of using drums as a language to communicate anything from warning of intruders to calling over different villages to a ceremony. “These interludes communicate freedom without any sort of song form and create full sentences within the drums,” he says, “Most drum solos I play have some kind of horn hits or backgrounds and this was fun to play without anything else to authentically express how I’m feeling.”

‘Roll The Tape’ epitomizes Deitch’s strength for surrounding himself with the perfect collaborators for any scenario and his ability to make even mature, serious music, resonate with music lovers from all backgrounds and maintain the ability to have fun. “Even with harmonically dense songs, this music is fun and danceable,” says Bloom, “There are lots of crowd-pleasing elements and these tunes are fun to play live—we can go in so many different directions.”

‘Roll The Tape’ is available to listen to on all streaming platforms HERE.

Closing yet another year stacked with tour dates, festival plays, and continual music releases, psychedelic funk maestros Lettuce will release their rendition of 1978 Grateful Dead classic “Shakedown Street” ahead of the band’s upcoming performance at Dead Ahead in Riviera Cancún, Mexico. Summoning the atmosphere and vibrancy of lot gatherings prior to Grateful Dead concerts that would come to be known as “Shakedown Street,” named after the song, the group has released a lyric video of vintage footage showcasing the spirit and community that continues to extend throughout the music scene today. The video was created by Sunbronx and can be viewed HERE.

Recorded in 2007 during the Rage! sessions, the track possesses a laid back, in-the-pocket groove locked in by the rhythm section of Adam Deitch (drums) and Erick “Jesus” Coomes (bass), the unmistakable interlocking horn work between Ryan Zoidis (saxophone) and Sam Kininger (saxophone), and an astute balance of reverberant guitar picking and tasteful wah leads from Adam “Shmeans” Smirnoff and Eric Krasno making Lettuce's take on "Shakedown Street" unmistakable them. Coomes is also featured on vocals throughout the track. Speaking to the band’s arrangement, Deitch details, “It's Shakedown Street mixed with Frenchmen Street. There's a New Orleans feel on there that we felt worked well with the melody.  Erick 'Jesus' Coomes did a great job channeling Jerry on the vocals.”

Being versed in the vast catalog of The Grateful Dead, Coomes elaborates on the band’s decision to cover the song, “Whenever Shakedown comes on the whole crowd goes crazy and it's one of the biggest dance songs in their catalog. Since Lettuce specializes in dance and funk music we thought we would do our best to make you bust a move and get into the groove. Enjoy!”

G. Love & Special Sauce earned a Gold record from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) off the strength of breakout radio/MTV staple “Cold Beverage,” an ode to iced delights of many origins, and follow-up “Baby’s Got Sauce,” hailed by Seattle’s KEXP-FM as the top song of 1994.

As a tribute to the trio’s enduring success as a concert act, this newly remastered and expanded edition of their debut boasts 11 live recordings recorded over two sweltering sets at the renowned Knitting Factory in New York City in July of 1994. Soul provider and GRAMMY-nominated vocalist & keyboardist Nigel Hall (Lettuce) and 2x GRAMMY-nominated multi-instrumentalist and producer DJ Harrison (Butcher Brown) have united to pay tribute to chart-topping R&B legends Earth, Wind, and Fire in The Burning Bush: A Journey Through the Music of Earth, Wind & Fire. The first taste of the new album is a rendition of the iconic band’s eponymous namesake track “Earth, Wind and Fire” available today via Regime Music Group. The full album will be available on May 10, 2024—pre-save it HERE.

Born out of Hall and Harrison’s shared reverence for the cherished icons, The Burning Bush: A Journey Through the Music of Earth, Wind & Fire reflects the duo’s simpatico approach to music, compared notes of musical heroes, and serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of EWF and the catalyst for their collaboration. Speaking about the project, DJ Harrison reflects, “‘Burning Bush’ is an album that reflects my first encounters with THE Nigel Hall in the studio...It was an energy that makes one feel they’ve found a distant musical relative and this record was the nucleus of our musical brotherhood that’s still active to this day.”

On the emotional depth and dedication to the project, Hall elaborates, “We were crushed by Maurice White's passing, so we thought what better way to release the pain and anguish of losing someone who we consider a king, by honoring him (and the group which was his vision) by paying homage to the music that changed (and continues to change) our lives.”

Hall recounts the organic process of including “Earth, Wind, and Fire” on the album after Harrison had sent a voice memo fleshing out the tune. “We have that kind of relationship where we are usually the first people to hear what the other is working on. Typically, people who are able to do that with each other, have a tremendous amount of trust in the other person. I was sold from the intro, as Spirit is in my top 3 EWF records. We decided we’d finish it and the rest is history.”

The duo’s slightly more uptempo rendition of “Earth Wind and Fire” echoes the 1976 original’s soaring, ethereal syllabic vocals and lush, unmistakable string parts that have been effortlessly translated to synth pads. With lyrics that speak to a grandiose picture of existence calling out elemental properties of the band's namesake, it is the perfect lead track to bridge generations of listeners—to perk up the ears of astute EWF fans and usher in a new generation who is eager to delve into the expansive and timeless catalog of music Earth, Wind, and Fire have crafted.

Hall poignantly attests to the desire to ignite cross-generational appeal and EWF’s cultural significance, “Our hope is that the listener will use our renditions to research the originals and how amazing the world of EWF actually is. We are true believers in the fact that, if everyone started their day with at least one EWF song, the world would indeed be a better place.”

Hall and Harrison have a shared upbringing hailing from the DMV area with the region significantly impacting their musical upbringing. Hall was born in Washington D.C. to a musical family and began playing keyboards at age five growing up immersed in his father’s record collection and the city’s vibrant go-go, funk, and soul scene. Harrison grew up in Richmond, VA, serving as the incubator for his “garage punk jazz funk” group Butcher Brown. Harrison’s recent solo album Shades of Yesterday, released in February 2024 via Stones Throw Records, pays homage to Harrison’s musical heroes looking back to his upbringing in Richmond, VA with nods to the influence of his contemporaries. While Hall has resided in New Orleans, LA since 2013 and cites the positive impact of living in the world-class music city, this project’s roots are laid down in Jellowstone Studios in Richmond—the stomping grounds of the initial jams that forged the musical kinship between Hall and Harrison where they cultivated a fortified EWF songbook.

The Burning Bush: A Journey Through the Music of Earth, Wind & Fire will feature guest appearances by Hall’s Lettuce bandmates Adam Deitch (drums) and Eric “Benny” Bloom (trumpet) & Harrison’s Butcher Brown counterparts Corey Fonville (drums), Andrew Randazzo (bass), Marcus Tenney (horns), Morgan Burrs (guitar). Former Butcher Brown guitarist Keith Askey, Billboard chart-topping guitarist/producer Brandon Lane, and revered Richmond-based vocalist Sam Reed also appear on the album.

GRAMMY-Award-winning bluegrass, folk, and Americana outfit The Infamous Stringdusters have unveiled their first single of 2024 with a cover of Earl King’s timeless classic “Those Lonely, Lonely Nights” featuring New Orleans-based songwriter and guitarist Anders Osborne on vocals. The track is released to celebrate The Infamous Stringdusters with Anders Osborne performing at House of Blues in New Orleans on Saturday, April 27th during the first weekend of Jazz Fest.

No strangers to putting their imprint on cover songs and tribute projects, The Infamous Stringdusters’ captivating rendition of “Those Lonely, Lonely Nights” infuses bluegrass with soulful grit delivering a fresh interpretation that pays homage to King’s original while showcasing the distinct talents each member in the quintet alongside Osborne. When The Infamous Stringdusters were planning the session with Osborne, they asked him to pick out a good ol’ New Orleans-style song and “Those Lonely, Lonely Nights” was his selection. During the session, they wanted to capture a classic NOLA vibe, but within the context of their string instrumentation.  Osborne’s vocals take listeners on a journey through multiple decades of influence honoring King's original version from the mid-50s, the showmanship expressed in Johnny "Guitar" Watson's interpretation in the 70s, and making the song their own in present times.

Dobroist Andy Hall shares, “I love the way this track came out! One of the great things about collaborating across styles is you’re never quite sure what you’re going to get. It’s like a new recipe—you gotta go for and then give it a taste—and this one tasted real good, in my opinion. We fused our bluegrass vibe with Anders’ soulful voice and got this really sweet country-soul mashup of the classic song.”

New Orleans not only serves as the home for the famed Earl King, but also as a stomping ground that cultivated a blossoming love for the city’s charm and musical culture for many members of the band. “Before I got into bluegrass I played blues and R&B and got way into New Orleans- style music. The first music festival I traveled to was Jazz Fest in NOLA back when tickets were something like $12/day for non-locals,” recalls guitarist & vocalist Andy Falco, “Anders Osborne always blew me away, and to have had the opportunity to work with him in the studio was an incredible honor and thrill.  We sang together on the Grateful Dead’s Black Muddy River which was previously released, and then we did this one that Anders brought in.  I’m so glad we got to play some real New Orleans music, and Anders’ vocal performance is nothing short of astonishing.”

The House of Blues performance during Jazz Fest comes in the middle of a bustling tour itinerary for The Infamous Stringdusters. The tour kicked off last night at Greenfield Lake Amphitheater in Wilmington, North Carolina, and continues through the southeast before the Jazz Fest Performance followed by a mix of club shows and festival plays including Hoxeyville Music Festival, Telluride Bluegrass Festival and more.
