A 6 piece powerhouse with a sound that is both unique and timeless, BIG Something fuses elements of rock, pop, funk, and improvisation to take listeners on a journey through a myriad of musical styles. It's no secret why this group has quickly become one of the most exciting new bands to emerge from the Southeast. Soaring guitars, EWI (electronic wind instrument), synths, horns and alluring vocal hooks rise to the top of their infectious collection of songs and represent a sound that has caught the ears of such revered stalwarts as Umphrey's McGee, Moon Taxi, Galactic, moe., Robert Randolph, and even The B52s, who have all tapped Big Something as direct support.

The band released their 5th studio album The Otherside on April 20th, 2018 as a follow up to their 2017 album Tumbleweed. The Otherside was recorded at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, NC with the help of Grammy-nominated producer and Carolina Music Awards Lifetime Achievement recipient - John Custer (Corrosion of Conformity) who has produced all 5 of the band’s albums.

On The Otherside, Big Something continues to build upon the post-apocalyptic peyote trip imagery from Tumbleweed, concluding the story of a nomad who has made it to the other side of his journey wandering through the night towards a desert sunrise. The album also showcases a different musical side of the band with a heavier, more focused and soulful collection of 8 songs including "Smoke Signal," and "Wildfire."

Big Something is Nick MacDaniels (vocals, guitar), Casey Cranford (sax, EWI), Jesse Hensley (lead guitar), Ben Vinograd (drums), Doug Marshall (bass), and Josh Kagel (keys, trumpet).

Gasoline Lollipops is a Colorado band that combines the sincerity of dirt-floor folk with the energy and rebelliousness of punk. It’s an all-new incarnation of alt-country that’s both high energy and heartfelt, like the American highway’s soundtrack.

Denver Westword awarded Gasoline Lollipops "Best Country Artist" in 2016 and 2018, and the group - which released the debut album Resurrection in February 2017 and followed it with Soul Mine just 11 months later - won the 2014, 2015 and 2017 Colorado Daily reader's polls for "Best Boulder Band."

The GasPops have shared stages with such respected artists as Lucero, Dale Watson, Todd Snider, Slim Cessna's Auto Club and others. They've also been on the bills of numerous great live-music festivals, including Divide Festival; Salmonfest Alaska; NedFest; Bohemian Nights @ New West Fest; the Denver Post's Underground Music Showcase; BrewGrass; YarmonyGrass; Higher Ground Music Festival; Westword Music Showcase; Empire Americana; FoCoMX; Frozen Dead Guy Days; and the highly anticipated Grandoozy Festival.

The Infamous Stringdusters rise to new heights on their ninth full-length record Rise Sun. For the album, the GRAMMY® Award-winning quintet—Andy Falco [guitar], Chris Pandolfi [banjo], Andy Hall [dobro], Jeremy Garrett [fiddle], and Travis Book [double bass]—expanded their signature sound by perfecting their seamless fusion of All-American-bluegrass and rock.

Once again sail into uncharted territory moored only by their expressive patchwork of All-American bluegrass threaded together with strands of rock, jazz, funk, country, old-time, and more.

As they approached this latest body of work, the group’s ambition matched their outsized creative curiosity.

“Rise Sun was sparked by the feeling of wanting something better for the world—more love, more awareness, and more compassion,” says Hall. “It’s a message of taking care of each other, our planet, and ourselves. We all shared this feeling as evidenced by the songs we brought to the project. It’s the feeling of a rising sun as opposed to a dark night. Sometimes a message of hope is less popular than one of despair, but it’s much-needed nevertheless.”

It’s also a message that 13 years, eight studio projects, and nearly 1,000 shows prepared the boys to properly present.

The Infamous Stringdusters stand out as the rare group who whose dynamic musicianship can be showcased with contemporary artists on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert one night and jamming on the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre alongside The Grateful Dead’s Phil Lesh the next.

Engendering a sense of impassioned fandom, they band have attracted a faithful audience that continues to grow. Moreover, their powerful music and performances paved the way for a GRAMMY® Award win in the category of “Best Bluegrass Album” for 2017’s Laws of Gravity.

When it came time to record what would become Rise Sun, they pushed themselves to evolve once more.

“Rise Sun is the latest chapter in the progression of our sound,” says Pandolfi. “It’s been a long arc that includes evolution on all fronts—writing, arranging, performing, and maybe most importantly, growing as humans who have more to say as the journey rolls on. New albums are the time when we write and introduce our strongest original material. On our last release Laws of Gravity, we really started to hit our stride with recording live in the studio. Rise Sun is another big step in that direction.”

For the first time, the band chose the song order before actually recording. Additionally, they maintained that order throughout the process, recording the songs in sequence which resulted in a natural flow. This choice, “gives it the feeling of a story as you listen down,” says Hall. It represented a moment of collective confidence.

“We self-produced the last album, so we felt validated in a sense that our instincts were sound,” adds Book. “We came into this one with some confidence. Any doubts about our band or our mission had dissipated. What remained was a deep sense of purpose and love.”

“The GRAMMY® put some high-octane gas in our tanks as well,” grins Garrett. “We also wanted to rise to the challenge of making a follow-up project worthy of what we had done in the past.”

The Infamous Stringdusters introduce the album with the handclap-driven gallop of the title track “Rise Sun.” High energy banjo powers an uplifting and undeniable refrain that immediately shines.

“It’s a hopeful anthem,” Book elaborates. “The sun is rising, and the light is overtaking the darkness. The idea for the melody, inspired by Southern gospel music, came to me driving out of the mountains into Georgia from my home in North Carolina. When we wrote it, I was feeling a deep sense of hope for humanity that the sun will rise again.”

Then, there’s the hummable instrumental “Cloud Valley,” which exudes a sci-fi spirit of wonder via sonic intricacy. “Science fiction can transport you to a place of deep imagination,” says Pandolfi. “We wanted to generate a soundscape for an imaginary mystical setting. It really came alive when we all got together.”

Everything culminates on a heartfelt send-off with “Truth and Love.” Its delicate musical backdrop transmits an important statement for The Infamous Stringdusters.

“I wrote that a few years ago and brought it back now, because I feel like the message has become more relevant today,” Falco states. “The world is polarized. Everything is so extreme, and partisan politics have become a culture war. The song is a reminder of what’s truly important in life—seek the truth, find your love, look up high, and aim above. Life is short, so keep your eye on what’s important while you’re here.”

In the end, that’s precisely what The Infamous Stringdusters do on Rise Sun as they boldly welcome yet another new day, new phase, and new chapter.

“We’re a brotherhood, but that family extends beyond the band even,” Falco leaves off. “Our music gives us an opportunity to bring some light in a world that can be dark sometimes.”

Sixteen-year-old Brandon Niederauer, nicknamed “Taz” for his ferocious guitar playing, is living proof that dreams really do come true. Having performed in some of the most legendary venues in America with many of the most prominent musicians of our time, the young guitarist, singer, and songwriter has already earned himself quite the reputation.

It all started at eight years old, when Brandon watched the movie School of Rock. Already inspired by his father’s record collection, Brandon instantly realized he was destined to play guitar. From that moment on, his guitar rarely left his hands. Just four years later, Brandon was cast in the principal role of guitarist “Zack Mooneyham” in the Tony Award-nominated Andrew Lloyd Webber Broadway production, School of Rock the Musical.

Based in New York City, Brandon has had the opportunity to play with many of his musical idols. In recent years, he’s shared the stage with multiple members of the Allman Brothers Band, including Gregg Allman, Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes, Butch Trucks, and Oteil Burbridge, as well as a variety of other notable musicians, including Buddy Guy, Stevie Nicks, Lady Gaga, Slash, Jon Batiste, Dweezil Zappa, Eric Gales, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Dr. John, Gary Clark Jr., Col. Bruce Hampton, Eric Krasno, George Porter Jr., Robert Randolph, Karl Denson, Doug Wimbish, and John Popper. He has also performed with Tedeschi Trucks Band, The String Cheese Incident, Umphrey's McGee, The Revivalists, Dumpstaphunk, Blackberry Smoke, Galactic, and countless other bands.

Since making his national television debut on The Ellen DeGeneres Show at just ten years old, Brandon has appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Good Morning America, and The View.

In 2018, Brandon reunited with Andrew Lloyd Webber, performing in January with Sarah Brightman at The Phantom of the Opera’s 30th Anniversary celebration, and in April alongside Sara Bareilles, Alice Cooper, and John Legend in NBC’s live broadcast production of Jesus Christ Superstar. Brandon is currently featured in Spike Lee’s Netflix series, She’s Gotta Have It, and performs concerts for audiences across the country and around the world.

Larry Keel is described by music critics and reviewers as the most powerful, innovative and all-out exhilarating acoustic flatpicking guitarist performing today. Keel has absorbed the best lessons from his Bluegrass family upbringing, both sides deeply steeped in the rich mountain music culture and heritage of Southwest Virginia. From there, he has always integrated that solid musical grounding and natural-born talent with his own incomparable approach to playing amplified, acoustic guitar and composing original music. He's also got a knack for choosing interesting and appealing material from all realms of music with guts, whether it's a tune written by a fellow song-writer/musician friend, or a surprise cover from any number of musical acts all over the map. The combination is pretty irresistible, and has earned Keel the highest respect and billing among the top acoustic and jam rock musicians alive, and some now gone: Tony Rice, Chris Thile, Steve Martin, Tim O’Brien, Vassar Clements, Sam Bush, Del McCoury, John Hartford, Bill Monroe, Peter Rowan, and Danny Barnes to name a few. And his fierce, high-spirited energy also appeals to young rockers, jammers and alt-country pickers and fans who are equally drawn to Keel’s blazing guitar power, the deep rumbling voice, his earthy and expansive song-writing, and his down-home-gritty-good-time charm. Keel convenes and collaborates with JamBand and Rock giants Greensky Bluegrass, Infamous Stringdusters, Yonder Mountain String Band, Keller Williams, Jorma Kaukonen, David Nelson, Little Feat, Railroad Earth, String Cheese Incident, Fruition and Leftover Salmon, amongst others.

Keel has a variety of musical formats he presents throughout the year; look out for his core band The Larry Keel Experience (featuring award-winning and highly accomplished Jared Pool on mandolin and penetrating vocals, and wife Jenny Keel with her rock solid bass lines as well as tenor vocal harmonies), Larry Does Jerry (Keel performing the music for Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead), Larry and the Smokin’ J’s (featuring Jon Stickley, Jay Starling and Jared Pool), Keller Williams and the Keels, and steady swirl of pairings with Keel and Drew Emmitt, Andy Thorn, Danny Barnes, members of the Del McCoury Band, Steep Canyon Rangers, just to name a few. Of note for early 2017 is Keel’s top billing at New York’s Carnegie Hall, where he will headline along with Al Di Meola, Stefane Wrembel and Stochelo Rosenberg at the Django A Go-Go concert, celebrating Django Reinhardt’s influence on the world of guitar music.

Throughout his career, Keel has released 15 albums and is featured on 10 others. The most recent release, March 2016, is EXPERIENCED, an entirely original work that showcases Larry’s and banjo virtuoso Will Lee’s exceptional songwriting, singing and jaw-dropping instrumental performances, accompanied by Keel’s equally talented wife Jenny Keel on upright bass and harmony vocals. This Americana Radio charting album exemplifies the raw sophistication of Keel’s progressive acoustic style, and features musician-friends who appear as guests on various tracks of Experienced; the artists include Sam Bush, Del McCoury, Peter Rowan, Keller Williams, Jason Carter (Del McCoury Band), Mike Guggino (Steep Canyon Rangers) and Anders Beck (Greensky Bluegrass). Quotes about Keel and his music from these artists themselves capture the essence of what this album and Keel’s artistry represents:

“Larry Keel is a triple threat… songwriter, guitar player, entertainer. He can do it all.” — Del McCoury

“Larry is a true original, be it traditional, progressive, improv.. he does it all, and with such joy. I love jamming with Keel. Enjoy the music. Larry does.” — Sam Bush

“Larry is the yin and the yang.. he will break your heart with a waltz, but he can also scare the hell out of you in the next song. He plays on the edge.. no, strike that- he creates genius guitar solos while staring over the edge and laughing maniacally.” — Anders Beck, Greensky Bluegrass

For Keel the musical mission is always clear: to let natural ability, finely-honed skill, honest emotion and fearlessness connect the playing and singing to audiences, to entertain and to thoroughly enjoy the experience of creating and sharing in music.

Music motivates at the most primal level.

You instinctually hum a tune in order to get pumped up in the morning, for fuel on the treadmill, to soundtrack your commute, or as the pre-game to a big night out. As much as he treasures his roles as a guitarist, composer, and producer, Cory Wong fashions himself “a hype man,” first and foremost. Living up to this classification, he slings a Stratocaster and hurls “dad jokes” from the stage with the same panache, poise, and power.

Moreover, he consistently translates motivation into seismic six-string transmissions throughout his independent third full-length record, Motivational Music for the Syncopated Soul.

“For me, it’s all about the listener’s experience,” he explains. “I want them to have a visceral response like: ‘I feel better,’ ‘That was really fun,’ or ‘I got to escape for an hour.’ You’ll hear my voice through the guitar, but I’m just a hype man. To uplift audiences with instrumental music that has no singing or lyrics is a fun challenge. I’m trying to solve the riddle. If I can get one person to feel good this way, it’s a success. So, I’m giving you Motivational Music for the Syncopated Soul.”

Straight out of Minneapolis, Cory positioned himself as music’s answer to motivational speakers like Tony Robbins since emerging in 2011. Head-spinning rhythm guitar wizardry, technical ebullience, laugh-out-loud jokes, and radiance on stage established him as both a sought-after collaborator and celebrated solo artist alike. He lent his talents to television programs such as The Voice at the dawn of his career. After an impromptu meeting at the weekly jam hosted by Prince’s rhythm section (where the Purple One often either performed or watched), he crossed paths with Vulfpeck who welcomed him as a frequent collaborator and member of the band. Solidifying a fruitful partnership, the group named their most popular instrumental  track “Cory Wong,” in tribute. Lighting up the stage in the band everywhere from Red Rocks Amphitheatre to Madison Square Garden, he remains a cornerstone of Vulfpeck’s storied gigs.

Following a pair of solo albums—Cory Wong and the Green Screen Band [2017] and The Optimist [2018]—he delivered a trifecta of 2019 live releases, namely Live in Minneapolis, Live on the Lido Deck, and Live in the U.K. Along the way, he regularly received critical plaudits from NPR, The Current, Music Radar, Live for Live Music who dubbed him, “Stratocaster Master,” and Premier Guitar who predicted, “Wong is currently riding those hooks and his rubbery right-hand technique to modern-guitar-hero status.” His unforgettable shows tap into Gallagher levels of unpredictability as he turns up with self-effacing charm and airtight performances. However, everything paved the way for his third offering.

More than ever, it showcases and spotlights his signature style.

“I try to feature the guitar, but I don’t force myself into being the star of every song,” he says. “The instrument plays an appropriate role. It’s not all flash. I’m bringing rhythm to the forefront where it’s not so shreddy. I refer to it as ‘Covert chops.’ I’m doing things that are sneakily hard, but they lay in the cut. I allow the song to breathe and present myself as more of a composer rather than a guitar player.”

His vision took shape at four different sessions over the course of 2019 in studios across New York, Minneapolis, and Los Angeles. He introduces the album with opener and first single “Limited World” [feat. Caleb Hawley]. Backed by boisterous horns and swaggering keys, his funked-out palm-muting and deft right hand propel the track ahead at lightspeed, hinging on a hummable groove.

“I’m a Minneapolis cat, so I needed it to be a fast, high-energy funk banger,” he goes on. “I’ve got Prince in my water and blood every day. Lyrically, it’s about how we blame things for limitations on our lives. In my experience, I’ve realized we get in our own way. We play mental games and think we’re in a limited world, but it’s all in our heads.”

Following an appearance together on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, he hit the studio with Jon Batiste for the follow-up single “Home.” Delicate piano underscores lyrical fretboard expression as the track crescendos towards a gorgeous and glistening jazz-y break.

“I composed this, and I’m leading the charge on the song, but it’s all surrounded by Jon’s piano,” Cory explains. “I’m the leader, yet he’s pulling me in different directions harmonically and in terms of phrasing. It turns into a conversation between parent and child. It’s like I’m speaking to my daughter. It’s the emotional moment on there.”

The ballad “Today I’m Gonna Get Myself A Real Job” merges self-deprecating musings and rich soundscapes into “a personal anthem of what it’s like on the journey as an artist, going between moments of extreme confidence and crippling self-doubt.” On its unofficial sequel “Starting Line,” Emily C. Browning delivers a soulful and spirited cameo, while the record’s denouement unfurls into a technical master class between Charlie Hunter and Cory on “Gumshü.”

In the end, Cory transmits joy in its purest form through the guitar.

“The guiding light is to impart a feeling of joy,” he leaves off. “I want people to experience instrumental music in a different way. This is hype. It’s more than just guitar.”

“After two and a half years on the road, we needed to shut away the rest of the world,” recalls Sergio Rios, guitarist and engineer of Los Angeles-based band ORGŌNE. For their tenth* studio album, ORGŌNE retreated to the tranquil solitude of Joshua Tree in southern California. Ensconced in a ranch home with a recording studio for a week in November 2015, the band improvised late into the desert night, carving out tunes that would eventually become the bulk of the material on Reasons (self-released, due out January 18, 2019). The nine-song collection illuminates a band hitting its stride, capturing the raw power and refined sensibilities that defines ORGŌNE.

For nearly twenty years ORGŌNE (a universal life force, pronounced or-gōne) has churned out gritty funk and soul recordings and toured relentlessly across the United States and Europe. Traditionally both the studio and live iterations of the band drew on a tight-knit collective of the West Coast’s finest funk and soul musicians—although founding members Sergio Rios (guitar/engineer) and Dan Hastie (keyboards) have been constant anchors. However, since late 2013, Rios and Hasite have been joined by Dale Jennings (bass), Sam Halterman (drums), and singer/lyricist Adryon de León to form a permanent nucleus.

Establishing a solid core of musicians was instrumental in creating such a cohesive, tight LP. “It allowed us to develop trust and be vulnerable with each other,” says de León. From the a cappella opening of “All Good Things” to the dance floor filler “Easy Love,” Reasons packs a punch. It’s as if the listener is transported back to those sessions in Joshua Tree, staying up late and jamming with the band. As a producer, Rios shines: “I’ve learned to stop being so precious about every little detail. It’s just art. Sketch your picture and move on.”

That immediacy, a sense of capturing moments, saturates Reasons. Take the second cut, “Hands.” Rios’ rhythmic guitar figure kicks the tune off, perfectly syncing up with Halterman’s solid boogie beat, dense percussion, and Jennings’ fuzzed-out bass line. The verse brings down the dynamics (tom fills replace that driving beat), but de León’s urgent plea for “less talk, more action” keeps the energy high. The massive chorus drops in after sixteen simmering measures and is pure joy. Hastie’s edgy synth line perfectly complements de León’s straightforward command: “Let your hands do the work.” ORGŌNE manages to start the party and fill the dance floor, but they also dim the lights in an undeniably sexy bridge. At first, de León launches into the vocal stratosphere before coming back to Earth with delicate harmonies as the band channels late 70s Fleetwood Mac. A few half note hits later and we’re back into the glory of the chorus. In just over four minutes ORGŌNE seamlessly channels disco, boogie funk, and smooth 70s California rock.

Trusting one another allowed the band to stretch beyond their traditional influences and summon a completely different set of musical heroes. Starting in the mid-1990s* ORGŌNE cut their teeth on instrumental pioneers from the late 60s and early 70s like The Meters and Cymande. Alternatively, Reasons looks toward the late 70s and early 80s for its sonic palette. Hastie’s synth lines evoke Bernie Worrell in the Talking Heads and the rest of the rhythm section lays down a foundation built from the likes of Prince, afro-disco icon Kiki Gyan, The Cars, and more. “It was a conscious choice to have a cohesive tone across the whole album instead of drawing from all types of eras,” Rios says. “It’s almost an interpretation of a memory of the music we all first heard when we were kids.”

Despite the new set of influences, ORGŌNE’s classic analog sound permeates Reasons. The writing sessions in Joshua Tree kickstarted the project but recording at their home base in North Hollywood, Killion Sound, was always the plan. Back in LA, the rhythm section members laid down bass, drums, guitar, and keys to ¼” tape on their famed Tascam 388, providing a thick sonic foundation unequaled on any soul or funk records released today. De León used these raw demos to develop vocal ideas in her car while stuck in notorious LA traffic. In the past ORGŌNE relied heavily on outside collaborators for vocal and lyrical input, but on Reasons De León takes over that role comfortably. While relying on themselves to produce Reasons made the process take longer, it also provided more artistic freedom. The results were clearly worth the wait.

De León is front and center on Reasons, and she does not disappoint. Whether she’s evoking the deep soulfulness of Chaka Khan on “Hands” or the bedroom sweetness of Minnie Ripperton on “Whisper to Me,” de León’s versatile vocal performance firmly places her in the top echelon of soul singers today. The lyrics on Reasons—pulled from a dark brown leather journal de León has had for years—focus on relationships, self-love, and politics. Musing on the 2016 election, de León searches for meaning and power within herself despite the troubled times:

We got fooled by the masterpiece

We’re part of his mastery

I’m blind but I’m seeing things

Looking for the light in me

Reasons is another solid step in a long and storied career. ORGŌNE’s accolades are too long to list in entirety. ORGŌNE’s live show captivates audiences and packs dance floors—whether it’s on sold-out headlining tours; sharing the stage with The Roots, Al Green, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, and Galactic; or appearances at fests like Bonnaroo, New Orleans Jazz Fest, High Sierra, Bear Creek, and Jam Cruise. The well-traveled band has released albums on Ubiquity, Shanachie, and Colemine Records and served as the studio band on hits like Alicia Keys’ “Teenage Love Affair” and Cee Lo Green’s Grammy-winning “Fool For You.” Critics like NPR and Jambase don’t shy away from heaping praise on a group with “irresistible funkiness and ability to transcend genre” (LA Weekly).

After so many years together, the reasons to continue recording and touring, to push onward and upward, are abundantly clear to the members of ORGŌNE. “I want people who’d never thought of this kind of music to be exposed to what we’ve put our hearts, time, tears, and joy into,” states de León. “I hope that we can accompany you on whatever trials you are going through and whatever happiness you find.” Reasons is the first of a trilogy of albums to be released in 2018 and 2019. ORGŌNE will tour extensively in 2019 behind the releases.

The Dirty Knobs, the Los Angeles-based rock band featuring celebrated guitarist and songwriter Mike Campbell (Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Fleetwood Mac) will make their debut in Boulder when they perform at Fox Theatre on October 23, 2021

Tickets are on sale now at foxtheatre.com. Wreckless Abandon, the highly anticipated debut album from The Dirty Knobs, is set for release on November 20 via BMG. The lead single and title track from the album, is available today alongside a digital album pre-order, including limited-edition merch bundles. Watch the video, directed by Ryan Daniel Browne HERE. The Dirty Knobs created Wreckless Abandon without agenda, expectations or deadlines, and without worrying about outcome or hits. They’ve pushed boundaries of taste, imagination, and genres, to create a 13-track album of brutally confident rock and roll.

In additional to Campbell, The Dirty Knobs are Jason Sinay on guitar and vocals (Neil Diamond, Ivan Neville), Lance Morrison on bass (Don Henley), and Matt Laug on drums (Slash, Alanis Morissette).

The album was produced by Campbell and George Drakoulias (The Black Crowes, The Jayhawks), with all songs written by Campbell. It features further contributions from Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and guitarist Chris Stapleton as well as fellow Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers founding-member, Benmont Tench. Additionally, Klaus Voormann, who is best known for doing the art for The Beatles’ Revolver, created the album artwork.

THE DIRTY KNOBS WITH MIKE CAMPBELL - photo by Pamela Littky

Of the project, Campbell explains, “The Dirty Knobs first got together almost fifteen years ago but Wreckless Abandon is our first album and occasion to tour. Over the years The Knobs became an outlet for me to play some of the other songs I was writing and to keep the creative juices flowing in between working on albums and tours with Tom and The Heartbreakers.”

What followed was several years of intimate, almost incognito, performances in the band’s home-base of Los Angeles and surrounding Southern California cities. After all those years playing together, it became clear The Dirty Knobs should take what they were doing to the next level. After Campbell’s long-time compatriot, friend and bandmate, Tom Petty, passed away in 2017, he knew the only way to heal some of the pain was to throw himself wholeheartedly back into his music.

“Losing Tom was earth-shattering for me. It was a total shock,” Campbell continues. “It had felt like we would be playing together forever. For a while it was hard to imagine playing in my own band again, let alone one where I’m the frontman. Tom was always my beacon. But everything I’ve been doing since Tom passed, including this album with The Dirty Knobs, is in the spirit of honoring what we did together.”

Jackie Venson is a multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter known far and wide for her beautifully complex music and blazing guitar skills. Born and raised in Austin, Texas, Jackie has traveled the world playing to massive crowds both as a headliner and as support for major acts such as Gary Clark Jr, Aloe Blacc, and Citizen Cope, to name a few. With the disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic, the cancellation of her entire tour schedule, and the wave of social change sweeping across the country, Jackie committed herself to releasing more music than ever before, connecting with her fans directly, and speaking up about the change she wanted to see in her city and country. On April 20th, Jackie released a new EP titled "jackie the robot vol 1" composed entirely of remixes that re-imagine Jackie's critically acclaimed catalogue, showcasing her growth as both a musician and producer. In October, Jackie released her latest studio album 'Vintage Machine', her first studio follow up to 2019's 'Joy'. Music from "Vintage Machine" was featured heavily on Jackie's taping for Austin City Limits' 46th season, and she released the full set on “Live at Austin City Limits” in December. With the uncertainty of the times we're living in, one thing holds true for Jackie Venson- she's going to play her music, speak her truth, and spread as much joy as she can doing it.

Hailed as one of the most prodigious guitarists of his generation and “highest category of improvising musicians" (New Yorker), Julian Lage has spent more than a decade searching through the myriad strains of American musical history via impeccable technique, free association and a spirit of infinite possibility. The California-born New York-based musician boasts a prolific resume on his own accord in addition to collaborating with Gary Burton and John Zorn, as well as duo projects with Nels Cline, Chris Eldridge and Fred Hersch, among others.

As Lage set out to record his debut for Blue Note Records, the virtuoso guitarist reflected on the label’s storied history and the way his own music connected with it. The result is Squint, a striking new album that weds incisive, expressive songwriting with the profound interplay Lage has honed over the past few years with his deft trio featuring bassist Jorge Roeder and drummer Dave King.

Julian Lage is thrilled to offer an exclusive Master Class at select cities on his “Squint” Fall Tour. All Master Class tickets include admission for one to the evening’s concert. Where available, Master Class tickets will include early admission to the show. Unfortunately, we’re unable to offer ‘master class-only tickets’ at this time. Start time for the class is generally an hour before advertised doors but exact start time will be communicated with ticket buyers around one week before the show. During each class, 30 minutes will be spent teaching to a unique piece of curriculum before a 10-15 minute Q&A session. Tickets to these classes are limited to ensure everyone comes away with a unique and hands-on experience. Participants are not required to bring instruments - topics are not necessarily tied to instruction and technique. In addition to the class, participants will leave with a Julian Lage Essentials Kit from D’Addario (electric strings and pick) along with a Master Class-specific piece of curriculum to take home.

As NPR writes, “siblings Clyde and Gracie Lawrence are not your typical pair.” Clyde Lawrence, 26, and Gracie Lawrence, 22, have been writing songs and listening to countless Stevie Wonder, Randy Newman, and Aretha Franklin records in their family’s New York City apartment since they were little kids. After years of playing together, they officially created Lawrence, an eight-piece soul-pop band comprised of musician friends from childhood and college. The band has since gained a devoted following for its high-energy, keyboard-driven sound, which features tight, energetic horns, explosive lead vocals, and fully-live arrangements.

In June 2019, Lawrence became the first band to sign with Beautiful Mind Records, the label of Grammy-winning producer/songwriter/artist Jon Bellion. In the weeks following the signing, they released the Bellion-produced single “Casualty,” and embarked as support on Bellion’s Summer 2019 Glory Sound Prep Tour.

The signing followed the release of Lawrence’s sophomore album, Living Room. Upon its release in September of 2018, Living Room promptly reached #2 on the iTunes R&B/Soul chart, earned a featured placement on Spotify’s “New Music Friday” playlist, and led the band to its late-night television debut on NBC’s Last Call with Carson Daly. The album ranges from R&B/funk feel-good pop songs to soulful and cinematic ballads. Co-produced by bandmates Jordan Cohen and Jonny Koh, as well as Brooklyn-based producer Eli Crews and Clyde and Gracie themselves, Living Room chronicles the trials and tribulations of growing up, including break-ups, make-ups, a family loss, and the attempt to find harmony between excitement, anxiety, melancholy, and empowerment. Sonically, the album combines elements of Lawrence’s old and new influences by mixing live with electronic, analog with digital, and meticulousness with spontaneity.

Lawrence first rose to prominence in 2016 when they released their debut LP Breakfast (2016), which received attention and praise from a variety of sources ranging from NPR’s All Things Considered to Stephen Curry’s social media. Produced by Grammy Award winner Eric Krasno (Lettuce/Tedeschi Trucks/Soulive), Breakfast includes guest performances by NYC soul/funk mainstays Adam Deitch (Lettuce), Cory Henry (Cory Henry & the Funk Apostles, Snarky Puppy), and Maurice “Mobetta” Brown (Anderson .Paak, Tedeschi Trucks Band). In the past three years, Lawrence has sold out headline shows across the country and appeared at festivals including Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, Firefly, Okeechobee, Hangout, and many more. The band has also opened for notable acts such as Lake Street Dive, Vulfpeck, Jon Bellion, Soulive, Jacob Collier, Blues Traveler, O.A.R, Bernhoft, and others.

In addition to the band, Clyde and Gracie have also amassed considerable resumes with other artistic pursuits. Clyde has written songs and score for film and television, including Miss Congeniality (2000), Music and Lyrics (2007), The Rewrite (2015), Landline (2017), and the forthcoming Disney film Noelle (2019). Gracie is an accomplished actress, appearing as a series regular alongside John Caroll Lynch, Leslie Odom Jr., and Sturgill Simpson in the CBS All-Access murder mystery One Dollar. Gracie has also appeared on Broadway in Brighton Beach Memoirs (2009), in films such as The Sitter (2011) and Did You Hear About the Morgans? (2009), and in tv shows including The Good Wife (2012), The Americans (2014), and Younger (2015).

Raw, soulful, and with plenty of swagger, Town Mountain has earned raves for their hard-driving sound, their in-house songwriting and the honky-tonk edge that permeates their exhilarating live performances, whether in a packed club or at a sold-out festival. The hearty base of Town Mountain's music is the first and second generation of bluegrass spiced with country, old school rock ‘n’ roll, and boogie-woogie. It's what else goes into the mix that brings it all to life both on stage and on record and reflects the group's wide-ranging influences – from the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia and the ethereal lyrics of Robert Hunter, to the honest, vintage country of Willie, Waylon, and Merle. The Bend Bulletin’s Brian McElhiney says Town Mountain, “has serious country and rock ’n’ roll DNA.” Town Mountain features guitarist and vocalist Robert Greer, banjoist Jesse Langlais, mandolinist Phil Barker, fiddler Bobby Britt, and Zach Smith on bass.

Town Mountain's latest album New Freedom Blues (October 2018) is their second consecutive album to debut in the top 10 on the Billboard Bluegrass Chart, and receive multiple worthy mentions by Rolling Stone, No Depression, and more. Full of new material and featuring several guest artists including Tyler Childers and Miles Miller (Sturgill Simpson, drummer), they prove they have staying power by regularly cranking out authentic hit albums. The impression the band has made on fans is clear through their engagement, top tier festival appearances, and those sweet, sweet Spotify streams (6+ million). And if you still can’t get enough of this hard working group, you can look forward to new music in 2020.

"Call it an evolution or a revolution, but it’s clear that Town Mountain is at the forefront." – Garret K. Woodward, Rolling Stone

"Town Mountain is a band that is going places fast. They are magnetic and powerful. Good original songs and strong singing from Robert Greer. Go check them out." -  Jerry Douglas

"The classic bluegrass sound takes a modern twist, one that offers something new and welcome to country music as a whole. Town Mountain extends the realm of what bluegrass is, and their attempt to redefine a genre is not only doable, it is being done... Not only did I stay for the entire show, but I felt engaged throughout its duration. Their stage presence was exemplary. Each musician was so tightly knit with each other that I could rarely hear a mistake. Being a musician myself, this is a feat that is worthy of commendation." – Tony Sheaffer, The UB Post

"Each and every member of the band played with fire, and there was no weak link. Town Mountain proved, and has proven, they are in the top tier of bluegrass artists in the 21st century... one of the final back-to-back bands to slay The Station Inn this decade." – Paul Howard, Music Mecca

"The best bluegrass band to come along in quite some time... (New Freedom Blues) is the bluesiest bluegrass you’ll likely to ever hear, with some jamgrass leanings... Damn, it’s good." – Amos Perrine, No Depression

"Town Mountain aren’t out to reinvent the wheel, they’re like a new set of the finest tires that gives you a new ride. there’s no fat, no gratuitous notes, no extra stuff, just amazing songs, singing and playing from one of the best bands out there…. or maybe they are the new wheel." -  Buddy Miller

"Town Mountain is known as the purveyors of the swagger-induced, honky tonk side of bluegrass music. They keep their live shows fun and rocking." -  Derek Halsey, Mountain Times

WITH BLUSH, DRY ICE, JACKSON CLOUD ODYSSEY

Wed, 11/17/2021 - 11:32 am

A virtuosic, award-winning guitarist with a gift for insightful songwriting, Molly Tuttle established herself as a new artist to watch with her boundary-breaking debut album, WHEN YOU’RE READY. What followed were dates at Telluride, Newport Folk Fest, an appearance on CBS Saturday Morning, and an enthusiastic reception both by critics and her fellow musicians.

In March 2020, the Nashville-based artist experienced the devastating tornado that tore through much of East Nashville, followed by the global pandemic. Tuttle, who grew up in California and has toured as a solo artist for years, suddenly found herself – along with the rest of the musician community – sheltering at home. She found solace in revisiting favorite songs from throughout her life in an attempt to “remind myself why I love music.” She conceptualized an idea for a record with renowned LA producer Tony Berg (Phoebe Bridgers, Andrew Bird) to be recorded over 2,000 miles apart.

Tuttle taught herself how to use ProTools, recorded and engineered all of her parts alone before sending them to Berg in Los Angeles. Berg proceeded to enlist legendary session musicians including drummer, Matt Chamberlain and keys player, Patrick Warren to add instrumentation in their respective home studios. Guest vocalists include Dawes’ Taylor Goldsmith and Old Crow Medicine Show’s Ketch Secor.. “This is how the astronauts do it!” she recalls Berg saying as they sent the files back and forth.

The result is 10 tracks that cross the musical spectrum and the decades, from FKA Twigs to Cat Stevens, from Rancid to Karen Dalton, that will be released as …but i'd rather be with you on Compass Records.

The songs range from a shimmering version of The National’s “Fake Empire,” to her version of the Rolling Stones “She’s a Rainbow,” all united by Tuttle’s clear, true voice, astonishing range and incredible musicianship.

“I still concentrate on getting a better understanding of the fingerboard, so that I have

the freedom to play more of what I hear in my head. There are endless possibilities for learning and growth on the instrument.”

“I love so many types of music, and it’s exciting to be a part of different musical worlds,” she says, “but when I’m creating, I don’t think about genres or how it will fit into any particular format – it’s just music.”

Since moving to Nashville in 2015, the native Californian has been welcomed into the Americana, folk and bluegrass communities, winning “Instrumentalist of the Year” at the 2018 Americana Music Awards.  Her debut, the Ryan Hewitt-produced WHEN YOU’RE READY, stretched the boundaries of those genres and introduced her to a wider audience both here and abroad. Tuttle has continued to accumulate accolades, winning Folk Alliance International’s honor for Song of the Year for “You Didn’t Call My Name” and taking home consecutive trophies for the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Guitar Player of the Year (the first woman in the history of the IBMA to win that honor).

“I have been working on writing for another original album and am still planning to record that this year,” Tuttle says, “but in the meantime I wanted to share these covers that have lifted my spirits, in hopes that you’ll find some much-needed joy as well.”

By the age of 11, Tuttle was attending jam sessions, and as she matured, her musical tastes soon ranged from Bob Dylan and Gillian Welch to The Smiths and Neko Case. Nowadays Tuttle is influencing and inspiring her own legion of young fans.

“I love seeing any young person trying to play one of my songs or just learning something from me,” she says. “One of my goals is to inspire the next generation, especially young girls, to play guitar. I think if girls see a woman doing something, it helps them think, ‘I can do that, too.’”

But something she’s quick to point out is that it all has to come from a lot of hard work and focus.

“I still concentrate on getting a better understanding of the fingerboard, so that I have

the freedom to play more of what I hear in my head. There are endless possibilities for learning and growth on the instrument.”

That pursuit of freedom and accomplishment continues to be explored and developed on …but i'd rather be with you, which conveys a further progression of her distinctive talent and musical ambition and gives an indication of the broad scope of her talent.

“I have been working on writing for another original album and am still planning to record that this year,” Tuttle says, “but in the meantime I wanted to share these covers that have lifted my spirits, in hopes that you’ll find some much-needed joy as well.”

After 27 years of coast to coast touring, the global pandemic grounded the touring juggernaut we have come to know as G. Love & Special Sauce. With band members sheltered in place and scattered across the country and G. Love's ever-pressing need to release creative juices bore a collaborative and experimental musical group.

G. Love & The Juice is that new mosaic, drawing from his signature hip hop blues he invited seasoned touring musicians who shared in this vision to deliver a musical experience which includes classic G. Love songs, improvisation jams and the low-down dirty blues which has been a hallmark of Garrett Dutton shows since the 1990’s.

G. Love & The Juice is a collective of all-star musicians which will be hitting a city or town near you. The current configuration has G. Seven years and three studio albums later The River Arkansas have hit their flow state.

Their upcoming four-song EP, Waiting on the Rain, set to release in February 2022, encapsulates this spectacle. It was written, recorded, and produced by River Arkansas frontman Mike Clark in a reconstructed shed he fashioned into a music studio. The recordings manage to capture Clark’s natural ability to extend a friendly hand with tender delivery of lyrical encouragement sprinkled with notes of amusing humor.

It may be low hanging fruit to compare The River Arkansas’s music to a river, but a band that delivers indie Americana and honky-tonk swing that erupts like turbulent rapids, curves into country calmness, and crashes smooth blues-rock upon the shore is deserving of the name sharing that sort of kindred power.

A batch of Colorado’s finest musicians whose abilities shine throughout the golden hour that is Waiting on the Rain. The five piece each skillfully showcases their craft while seamlessly bonding together as a band. Bolder Beat noted that, “Together, they give off a heartfelt and wholesome sound which resonates with the Colorado lifestyle of mountain life meets the pavement."

Mike Clark (singer, songwriter) and Macon Terry (bass) formed The River Arkansas in 2014 after an impromptu studio session led to the release of their first album, Golden Light. The band picked up Robin Chestnut (drums) and Rachel Sliker (violin) for a month-long west coast tour that solidified the band's friendship and led to their sophomore album, You Animal. As the band evolved from a more tender sound to heavier soulful country and blues-rock music, they added the talented Benjamin Gallagher on keys. His addition prompted the band to use 4-piece harmonies and more elaborate arrangements, and they released their third studio album, Any Kind of Weather shortly before the world took a break due to health reasons. With the release of Waiting on the Rain, The River Arkansas demonstrates just how much they’ve mastered the steady flow of their sound.

With her spellbinding voice and time-bending sensibilities, Sierra Ferrell makes music that's as fantastically vagabond as the artist herself. Growing up in small-town West Virginia, the singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist left home in her early 20s to journey across the country with a troupe of nomadic musicians, playing everywhere from truck stops to alleyways to freight-train boxcars speeding down the railroad tracks. After years of living in her van and busking on the streets of New Orleans and Seattle, she moved to Nashville and soon landed a deal with Rounder Records on the strength of her magnetic live show. Now, on her highly anticipated label debut Long Time Coming, Ferrell shares a dozen songs beautifully unbound by genre or era, instantly transporting her audience to an infinitely more enchanted world.

Co-produced by Stu Hibberd and 10-time Grammy Award-winner Gary Paczosa (Alison Krauss, Dolly Parton, Gillian Welch), Long Time Coming embodies a delicate eclecticism fitting for a musician who utterly defies categorization. "I want my music to be like my mind is -- all over the place," says Ferrell, who recorded the album at Southern Ground and Minutia studios in Nashville. "I listen to everything from bluegrass to techno to goth metal, and it all inspires me in different ways that I try to incorporate into my songs and make people really feel something." In sculpting the album's chameleonic sound, Ferrell joined forces with a knockout lineup of guest musicians (including Jerry Douglas, Tim O'Brien, Chris Scruggs, Sarah Jarosz, Billy Strings, and Dennis Crouch), adding entirely new texture to each of her gracefully crafted and undeniably heartfelt songs.

Sprung from her self-described "country heart but a jazz mind," Long Time Coming opens on the unearthly reverie of "The Sea," a haunting and hypnotic tale of scorned love. Its bewitching arrangement is adorned with sublime details like Ferrell's tender toy-piano melodies and Scruggs's woozy steel-guitar work. In a striking sonic shift emblematic of the whole album, Ferrell then veers into the galloping beat and classic bluegrass storytelling of "Jeremiah," a heavy-hearted but sweetly hopeful romp featuring Jarosz on banjo and octave mandolin. Another impossibly charming bluegrass gem, "Bells of Every Chapel" sustains that wistful mood as Ferrell muses on the exquisite pain of "loving someone unconditionally with all your heart, but they don't receive your love the way you want them to." Graced with Strings's nimble acoustic-guitar work and the heavenly harmonies of O'Brien and Julie Lee, "Bells of Every Chapel" reaches its breathtaking crescendo as Ferrell belts out the song's closing lyrics, effectively twisting that heartache into something strangely glorious.

One of the most enthralling moments on Long Time Coming, "Far Away Across the Sea" finds Ferrell serenading her tragically distant beloved, channeling the track's ardent longing in wildly cascading guitar lines and the fiery trumpet work of Nadje Noordhuis. "Since I'm singing about the ocean in that song, I wanted it to have a calypso vibe -- but then there's also a bit of a tango feel to it, and some Spanish influence too," Ferrell points out. Noting that she first became fascinated with island music while touring with blues singer/songwriter C.W. Stoneking, Ferrell also infuses an element of calypso into "Why'd Ya Do It" -- a beguiling and bittersweet lament whose lyrics perform a sort of poetic love spell ("My love for you's a deep blue ocean, baby/I just wanna swim inside").

In her elegant blurring of musical boundaries, Ferrell brought her vast imagination to the reworking of two signature fan favorites, including "In Dreams" -- a song previously glimpsed in a viral video that's now amassed nearly four million views on YouTube. A bold departure from the rugged simplicity of that rendition, the album version of "In Dreams" unfolds with an unbridled splendor that wholly intensifies the impact of Ferrell's outpouring. Meanwhile, in reimagining the self-reflective "Made Like That," Ferrell introduces unexpected flourishes like loping percussion and luminous piano tones, ultimately building an even more immersive atmosphere around the song's softly devastating confession. "When I wrote 'Made Like That,' I was thinking about where I am now compared to what my life was like in West Virginia," she says. "It was hell for me to be stuck in a small town, but I got out and finally realized what the world had to offer. Now I'm here, and I'm so much healthier and happier."

Despite its endless wandering into new sonic terrain, Long Time Coming is indelibly rooted in Ferrell's ravishing vocal presence, revealing her extraordinary ability to draw enormous feeling from just one single note. A lifelong singer, she got her start performing covers in a local bar at the young age of seven. "There was this little dead-end bar nearby that my mom and I would go hang out at during the day, and I'd get up and sing Shania Twain songs," she recalls. "There'd be hardly anyone in there, so I'd have free rein of the place." Later on, while living in a trailer park, Ferrell had a chance encounter that would soon turn out to be life-changing. "I met all these homeless kids who were traveling all over the place and playing amazing old songs, and I wanted to be a part of that," says Ferrell. "The music they were making was so honest, so pure. It seemed important to bring that kind of music back, and it's been with me ever since." Though her years of traveling proved immensely formative, Ferrell eventually settled in Nashville in her late 20s. Soon after her arrival, she began taking the stage at major festivals like The Avett Brothers at the Beach, AmericanaFest, and Out on The Weekend and touring with the likes of Parker Millsap and Charley Crockett, immediately captivating crowds with her joyful and spirited live set.

A consummate musician's musician, Ferrell found an easy camaraderie with the many luminaries who accompanied her on Long Time Coming. To that end, her most cherished moments in the album's production include the recording of the soul-stirring choir-like harmonies of "West Virginia Waltz," as well as Rory Hoffman's impromptu whistling on "Bells of Every Chapel." ("Rory's got one heck of a whistle on him," she marvels). At the same time, the making of Long Time Coming fully affirmed her affinity for lifers like Strings. "Billy's in it for the music, which is something we have in common," she says. "We're just gonna keep playing till we're not on this Earth anymore."

While the wayward sound of Long Time Coming is in many ways a perfect echo of Ferrell's free-spirited nature, there's also a much deeper intention at play: a desire to expand her listeners' capacity for wonder, so that they might uncover some enchantment in their own lives. "A lot of us are taught to wake up, go to work, make money, eat, sleep, rinse, repeat," says Ferrell. "It's so easy to get caught up in that nine-to-five routine, and end up numb and dulled-down to everything. I want my music to help people break away from that -- to get lost in their imagination, and start seeing how magical the world can be if you just pay attention."

Whether traveling to gigs on horseback or by tour bus, Americana mavens The Brothers Comatose forge their own path with raucous West Coast renderings of traditional bluegrass, country and rock ‘n’ roll music. The five-piece string band is anything but a traditional acoustic outfit with their fierce musicianship and rowdy, rock concert-like shows.

The Brothers Comatose is comprised of brothers Ben Morrison (guitar, vocals) and Alex Morrison (banjo, vocals), Scott Padden (bass, vocals), Philip Brezina (violin), and Greg Fleischut (mandolin). When they’re not headlining The Fillmore for a sold-out show or appearing at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, the band is out on the road performing across America, Canada, Australia, and hosting their very own music festival, Comatopia, in the Sierra foothills.

April of this year is finding the band touring Latvia and Lithuania as cultural ambassadors for American Music Abroad, which is run by the US State Department with the goal of sending American artists all over the world as a cultural exchange program. The band toured China in 2018 under the same program.

The remainder of 2019 will see the Brothers Comatose hitting the studio to record on their fifth studio album to be released on AntiFragile Records.

The Sweet Lillies' music is, first and foremost, heartfelt and collaborative.  Those defining traits are given life by the trio of musicians who make up the Lillies, Julie Gussaroff, Becca Bisque, and Dustin Rohleder, who have combined their individual strengths together to deliver powerful narratives of life in song.  With their acoustic string-band lineup of guitar, viola, and upright bass given flight by ethereal, vocal harmonies that float like a dream, the Sweet Lillies' music has an old-time soul with a forward-looking eye.  The Sweet Lillies have incorporated all of their cumulative life-experiences into their music, their song-writing, and their artistry, crafting an uncommonly-beautiful style they have christened String-Americana - a nod to the band’s all encompassing musical tastes and willingness to experiment with genres.  As Gussaroff explains, “Some musicians learn from teachers, some learn from family members, and some are self taught.  Some musicians are classically trained, some come up through folk, some draw from multiple springs, from hip hop through pop to bebop.  In the Lillies' all of these skill sets are valuable, relevant, and appreciated.”

The Sweet Lillies are built upon their collaborative ideals and are always ready to share a stage or develop a project with any musicians who share the same no-holds barred creative approach.  This has made each one of their inventive, energetic live-shows a wholly unique event as setlists are changed on the fly, songs are given new life and shape, and guests are always welcome to join in the creative explosion.  Those on-stage partnerships create a space for incorporating instruments, arrangements, and styles that aren't necessarily typical of the genre, but that help create a rich, compelling sound that defies easy categorization.  Over the years they have been joined onstage by a number of legendary performers including, Sam Bush, George Porter Jr., Peter Rowan, Sally Van Meter, Andy Hall from the Infamous Stringdusters, Kyle Hollingsworth and Jason Hahn from the String Cheese Incident, Jennifer Hartswick, and Natalie Cressman from the Trey Anastasio Band, among many others.  Andy Thorn from Leftover Salmon who has sat in on many of those live adventures says, “It’s always a joy to play with the Sweet Lillies. Over the years, I’ve seen them evolve from a folk-and-bluegrass group into a genre-bending powerhouse. Today, at a Lillies show, you’ll hear everything from their beautiful, soulful originals, to creative reinventions of your favorite 90s hip-hop tracks. They’re always ready to have fun - on stage and off - without losing an ounce of their professionalism.”

The Sweet Lillies were born from Gussaroff’s desire to form a band in which each member would be an equal participant in terms of songwriting, singing, and creative input.  After years of accompanying other artists, serving as a side player, and writing songs for others, multi-instrumentalist and classical trained vocalist Gussaroff wanted to establish a true musical-collective that would highlight the best qualities of all involved.  In 2014 Gussaroff met Bisque, who was a classically trained violist.  The two found an immediate and deep musical connection and the Sweet Lillies were born.  In 2017 at a campground jam at the Hangtown Ball they heard guitarist Rohleder.  That night the three played for what they remembered as, “Ten magical hours.”  The following year in 2018, Rohleder joined the Sweet Lillies full-time completing Gussaroff’s vision.

Since forming in 2013 the Sweet Lillies have released two albums, 2016’s self-titled release, and 2018’s A Lighter Hue produced by Leftover Salmon’s Vince Herman.  They are set to release their new album, Common Ground, produced by Railroad Earth’s Tim Carbone, on June 4 of this year.

Common Ground stays true to the beliefs that Gussaroff and the Sweet Lillies adhere to.  She explains, “String band music is compelling.  What makes it so universally appealing is the way it lends itself to effective fusion of diverse styles, skill-sets and conceptions.”

On Common Ground the Sweet Lillies take that notion to heart and do just that with an album that exemplifies their collective spirit and pulls from all the varied arrows in the band’s quiver.  On Common Ground the Sweet Lilles stay true to the string-band soul that is at the heart of their music, but prove they are also unafraid to explore all corners of their distinct musical experiences.  The album moves seamlessly from the horn-driven title-track “Common Ground,” to the gentle “Breath to the Birds,” to the hard-driving “Brother’s Hill,” to the band’s own unique, rootsy take on rap “In Love With the World,” (with a beat made by Jeff Franca from Thievery Corporation).  Common Ground masterfully incorporates those diverse genres and voices into their own universe, creating an aural-soundscape that is at the same time both new and familiar.  Producer Carbone sums it up best, “The world needs a band like The Sweet Lillies, whose music is positive without denying the darkness in the world.  Their songs are uplifting but they also invite the listener to be introspective and draw their own conclusions.  Like all great music it does so while taking you on a journey of joy.  I live to make records like this with dedicated, focused artists and I can't wait for the world to hear it.”

It’s no longer a secret that Los Angeles-based Jerry's Middle Finger (JMF) delivers the best Jerry Garcia Band tribute experience in the world - performing and celebrating the music of JGB with unparalleled sound and energy.

Humbly formed in 2015 by a group of professional musicians passionate about Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead, JMF started honing its one-of-a-kind sound at LA speakeasies and beachside dive bars. Audiences of all ages instantly fell in love and soon JMF was playing explosive shows up and down the West coast, packing legendary venues like Sweetwater Music Hall, Terrapin Crossroads, and Pappy & Harriet’s—dazzling new fans on the scene and pulling even the most discerning Jerry fanatics out of their seats for the first time in decades.

The magic all starts with lead vocalist and guitarist Garrett Deloian. As a seasoned veteran of the blues circuit, he channels his lifelong love for the work of Garcia into every lick with his unparalleled high-octane guitar tone. The rhythm section features JMF drummer/founder Rodney Newman and bassist Burt Lewis. Rounding things out are two powerhouse vocalists, Halina Janusz and Lisa Malsberger, and veteran pianist Jon Gold.

The future looks bright for JMF as they get ready to take their heartfelt magical dance parties to further points across the country. So whether you saw Jerry 500 times or were born after his time on earth, this much is true: JMF will make you feel like he’s still here.

Kikagaku Moyo have come a long way – both literally and metaphorically – since their humble beginnings busking on the streets of Tokyo back in 2012. A tight-knit group of five friends who bonded over the desire to play freely, and explore music associated with space and psychedelia, their initial ambitions were modest – semi-regular slots in the cramped clubs of the city’s insular music scene. Yet the band’s progressive, folk-influenced take on psychedelia marked them out from their peers and re-started Japan’s psych rock scene; it also brought them international acclaim.

With a settled line up – Go Kurosawa (drums, vox), Ryu Kurosawa (sitar), Tomo Katsurada (guitar, vox), Daoud Popal (guitar), Kotsuguy (bass) – and a signature sound that blended classical Indian music, Krautrock, traditional folk, 70s rock, and acid-tinged psych, the band sold out shows across Europe and founded their own label, Guruguru Brain, to showcase not just their own work, but the under-represented music scene in East Asia.

To date, the label has released music from over ten different artists alongside their own albums. In 2017, Kurosawa and Katsurada relocated permanently to Amsterdam. The move placed both Kikagaku Moyo and Guruguru Brain at the heart of Europe and eased the logistical challenges of long tours for bands on their label and release schedules, while catering to Western audiences.

Since then, their popularity has continued to grow, and Kikagaku Moyo are now one of the most acclaimed bands in the alternative psych scene. Having toured the world several times over, they’ve also graced prominent slots at renowned festivals such as Bonnaroo (US), End Of The Road, Green Man (both UK), and Concrete and Glass (China), and have been commissioned by world-famous fashion brands such as Gucci and Issey Miyake.

The band will release their fifth and final album this May, once again on Guruguru Brain.

Grateful Shred has announced a new and extensive run of spring tour dates entitled, Go East III, in commemoration of the Los Angeles-based band’s third proper tour to the East Coast. The 21-date cosmic trek kicks off on April 22 in Ventura, California and goes east from there, hitting Tempe, Boulder, Denver, Cleveland, Philadelphia and more, before it lands at the Brooklyn Bowl, Brooklyn, NY, for a three-night-stand on May 6, 7 and 8. Shred will also make stops at Brooklyn Bowl's Philadelphia and Nashville locations on the run that concludes at Chicago’s Thalia Hall on May 15.

Go East III will be co-presented by Grateful Shred Industries, Relix and PHILM and will be Grateful Shred’s largest tour to date and follows last year's Shred 420: Live at Liberty Hair Farm broadcast and sold out concert tape plus a 2021 west coast run that included sold out headline plays at the historic Libbey Bowl in Ojai, Roaring Camp in the Santa Cruz Mountains and New Year’s Eve at The Regent in Los Angeles.

After a meteoric rise from obscurity to a national touring band, Grateful Shred has made the most of its time in the spotlight. The initial lineup alongside Shred core two, Austin McCutchen and Dan Horne, woke the Grateful Dead cosmos with a unique laid-back harmony driven sound. The band literally went from playing the Shakedown Street vendor area prior to Dead and Company shows to touring the United States.

The moment that sent the band’s popularity soaring is the now infamous “Busted at the Bowl,” a YouTube video that features Shred members starting an impromptu set in the parking lot of the Hollywood Bowl before a Dead and Company show in 2017. They don’t get too far before drawing so much attention that the police shut them down. Instant "Shred-Cred."

This past pandemic year, McCutchen and Horne decided to shake things up within. Their biggest move was adding a second drummer to the lineup; Alex Koford (Phil and Friends, Terrapin Family Band) joined longtime Shred collaborator Austin Beade on drums as the band doubled down on its rhythm section. Koford’s vocals were a huge benefit to the band and by the end of 2021 performances, his contributions were prominent throughout the nightly setlists.

Another huge part of the 2021 lineup was keyboardist Adam MacDougall. MacDougall, a member of Circles Around the Sun with Horne, brings even more credibility along with his spacey keyboard grooves and yet another vocal to the mix.

Tickets to Grateful Shred’s Go East III will go on sale to the general public on Friday, February 4, 10AM local. Relix and PHILM pre-sale tickets will go on sale, Wednesday, February 2, 10AM local with the password SHREDICATED.

Everyone Orchestra is a blissful, masterfully conducted, fully spontaneous explosion of live music created by a rotating cast of world renowned musicians and led by conductor Matt Butler. Each show is 100% unique, as a carefully curated lineup of performers (from bands as preeminent as the Grateful Dead, Phish, The Meters, King Crimson, Ween, Widespread Panic, etc.) is guided through mostly up-tempo, danceable grooves under the creative leadership of Matt’s cues and improvised whiteboard directives.

Unlike other one-off “super jams”, Everyone Orchestra does not borrow from other artists’ song lists, but rather draws on the funky, jazzy, soulful, electronic, and Americana roots of the hand selected musicians who come together in a consistently stunning display of raw talent and imaginative improvisation. Audience engagement also sets EO apart; fans are brought into the magic on-the-fly when Matt turns his whiteboard around to share a hand written theme for the next song (you might see “Funk in A”, or “Space Jam”), or a chorus for the crowd to join in the rhythm.

For 20 years, Everyone Orchestra and Matt have brought an incredible, animated, joyful collaboration to stages from Wakarusa to Jam Cruise, High Sierra, Summer Camp and All Good to Electric Forest, Ottawa Music Festival, Arise, Beloved, and to the country’s most revered clubs including Brooklyn Bowl, Terrapin Crossroads, Cervantes Masterpiece, The Fillmore, Great American Music Hall, Park West, and countless others.

The list of Everyone Orchestra participants is an increasingly wide and intercontinental group, and a who's who of live music titans. They include: Jon Fishman (Phish); Oteil Burbridge (Dead & Company); JoJo Hermann (Widespread Panic); Michael Kang, Michael Travis, Jason Hann, Bill Nershi & Kyle Hollingsworth (The String Cheese Incident); George Porter Jr. & Zigaboo Modeliste (The Meters); Steve Kimock; Jennifer Hartswick & Natalie Cressman (Trey Anastasio Band); Joel Cummins & Kris Myers (Umphrey's McGee); Tony Levin (King Crimson); Claude Coleman Jr. (Ween); Durga McBroom (Pink Floyd); Eric Krasno (Soulive); Marco Benevento; Marc Brownstein & Aron Magner (The Disco Biscuits); Steve Berlin (Los Lobos); Rob Derhak, Al Schnier & Vinnie Amico (Moe.); Danny Louis (Gov't Mule); Jeremy Salken (Big Gigantic); Nicki Bluhm; Mike Greenfield & Chuck Morris (Lotus); Holly Bowling; John Kadlecik (Furthur); Youssoupha Sidibe...and many, many more.

Steely Dead is a musical hybrid of the Grateful Dead and Steely Dan. Sonic worlds collide, between the structure, arrangement and precision studio recordings of rock legends Steely Dan, cross-pollinated with the Grateful Dead’s free-flowing, melodic improvisation and masterful song segues. Steely Dead merges these major concepts together while infusing the influence unto each band. For example, taking the Grateful Dead’s rocking set ender Deal and Steely Dan’s Reelin’ In the Years creating the mashup Dealin’ in the Years. Steely Dead is committed to the nuance of both bands while remaining playful with jam segues between songs, and delivering a unique musical blend. A country music cocktail that is equal parts Golden-Era Country Revival, Folk, and Rock & Roll

With the addition of Hammond B3 organ, pedal steel and fiddle, the band plays every card. They waltz through tender three-part harmony ballads before inciting two-steppin’, beer-slingin’ dance parties that have placed them in venues with modern-day honky-tonk heroes like Whitey Morgan and Jesse Dayton, as well as soon-to-be household names like Paul Cauthen and Zephaniah Ohora.

Fronted by Kansas City native Evan Holm, Extra Gold released their acclaimed debut record “High & Lonesome” in 2018 and released the single “What It’s Like” in 2020. They are back in the studio recording their much anticipated follow up LP to be released in late 2021 and are bound to take the festival circuit by storm in late 2021 and beyond.

“Jerry Dance Party is a chance for music lovers to experience the mind-bending marriage of cutting-edge audio-visual technology with the timeless music of the Grateful Dead.” - concert promoter and Relix publisher Peter Shapiro.

From its inception, The Jerry Dance Party has brought together the best of Jerry Garcia live catalog, from his extensive and wide ranging career with the Grateful Dead to his work with Old & In The Way, Jerry Garcia Band, Merl Saunders, John Kahn, New Riders of the Purple Sage and many more.

“We’re bringing Garcia’s entire career to the dance floor, for three-plus hours of the most ripping, psychedelic live tracks,” says DJ JerrBrother. “Undoubtedly, at every Jerry Dance Party, people come up to me and ask, ‘What show was that from?’ ‘What year is this song from?’.. I’ve combed through hours of live Garcia tracks to find the best of the best . We leave people with a renewed sense of exploration and love for the guy who brought it every night, Garcia."

Each and every venue where The Jerry Dance Party takes place features state-of-the-art audio combined with a mind-bending light and video experience curated to accompany the music for this unique experience.

And while DJ JerrBrother’s late-night dance parties predate the LOCKN’ Music Festival, it was there in Virginia in 2013 where new life was breathed into the show.

Since then, The Jerry Dance Party has taken over venues across the United States. The technicolor gathering has popped up at Brooklyn Bowl, Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas, Fare Thee Well at Soldier Field, The Capitol Theatre, and most recently as a sold-out after parties for Dead & Co. and Phish at the immersive, psychedelic, audio/visual venue ZeroSpace in NYC.

Just like Jerry accomplished in his playing, no two Jerry Dance Parties are alike.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, George Porter Jr. & Runnin’ Pardners need to postpone their upcoming performance on Friday, October 21st at the Fox Theatre.  We are working on new Spring 2023 date, where we will honor all purchased tickets from the original October date. If you're unable to make the new date, refunds will be available at your point of purchase.  We will keep everyone updated and hope to announce the new date soon.

George Porter Jr. is an award-winning bassist, songwriter and vocalist. He is a founding member of New Orleans’ seminal funk band, The Meters and widely recognized as one of the greatest bass players of all time. Formed alongside Art "Poppa Funk" Neville, Leo Nocentelli and Joseph Zigaboo Modeliste, the pioneering R&B funk outfit hit the scene on the streets of the Crescent City in the 1960s, to ultimately become one of the progenitors of the funk music genre. The groundbreaking collective carved out syncopated polyrhythms and grooves inherited from New Orleans’ deep African musical roots. Porter’s heavy pocket and fat notes formed the rubbery bass lines behind funk classics like their signature “Cissy Strut,” the now classic 1969 funk instrumental released as a single from their eponymous debut album, which reached No. 4 on the R&B chart and No. 23 on the Billboard Hot 100 respectively. While the group rarely enjoyed massive mainstream success, they are widely heralded alongside James Brown, Sly Stone, and George Clinton’s Parliament/Funkadelic as the founding fathers of funk. The Meters have been nominated four times for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (most recently in 2017), and were presented with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards in 2018.

At the outset of his young career, Porter developed his signature style on sessions in his hometown New Orleans, with early musical pioneers Johnny Adams, Irma Thomas, Snooks Eaglin, Eddie Bo and The Lastie Brothers. While Porter developed his pedigree, The Meters were gaining notoriety, soon becoming the house band for Allen Toussaint’s recording label, backing classic records from Dr. John, Lee Dorsey and Earl King, while later supplying the musical foundation for classic hit albums and singles from modern artists Robert Palmer, Paul McCartney, Tori Amos, Taj Mahal, not to mention Patti Labelle’s No. 1 R&B hit “Lady Marmalade.”

George and The Meters toured with the Rolling Stones in '75, were embraced by Led Zeppelin and The Beatles, and became primary influences to modern artists such as Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Beastie Boys. Porter’s rhythmic work with drummer Modeliste also became the building block behind primary samples used by the most relevant hip-hop artists of the 1980’s and 1990’s, including A Tribe Called Quest, Run DMC, N.W.A. and Queen Latifah.

Porter has accompanied the stage as a band member or special guest with the likes of David Byrne, Dead & Company, Jimmy Buffet, Warren Haynes, Widespread Panic, Tedeschi Trucks Band, John Scofield, Bill Kreutzmann, Mickey Hart and various members of Phish, to name a few.

He continues to be the bandleader of current projects, George Porter Jr. and Runnin' Pardners and George Porter Jr. Trio; with both incarnations still playing often locally, and touring prolifically, garnering respect not only as quintessential New Orleans' bands, but also as major national attractions within the jam band and festival scene. On special occasions, Porter still anchors Foundation of Funk, a current Meters "reinvention" with original drummer Zigaboo Modeliste, boasting a rotating line-up which has featured members of Widespread Panic, Medeski Martin & Wood, Dumpstaphunk and 2018's now infamous Lockn Festival sit-in by Bob Weir, John Mayer and Grateful Dead drummers Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann, the latter of whom George played with in the popular side project, The 7 Walkers.

Currently, Porter still maintains a healthy touring schedule with his trio and Runnin’ Pardners projects with a cast of seasoned and talented musicians including long-time collaborator Michael Lemmler (keyboards), Terrence Houston (drums) and Chris Adkins (guitar). George and his Runnin' Pardners recently released their highly acclaimed first new studio album in six years, Crying For Hope in March 2021. The album garnered national coverage with Billboard, Tidal, MOJO, Premier Guitar and Bass Player, along with Porter's hometown publication, Offbeat, which declared:

"While the title cut harkens back to the social commentary lyricism of some of the best Meters songs and references the déjà-vu all-over-again experiences of Black America in these fraught times, the rest of the album remains emotionally upbeat and hopeful. For a band that is known for its stop-on-a-dime tightness when performing live, this album proves over and over that with the right musical ingredients the magic can actually be bottled."

During the course of his career spanning more than four decades, Porter has made a deep impression as an elite player; acknowledged as one of Rolling Stone Magazine’s 50 Greatest Bassist of All Time. At 74 years young, George Porter Jr. plans to keep a smile on his face and often says, "I feel like I am working towards something that will be remembered."

Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio—or as it is sometimes referred to, DLO3—specialize in the lost art of “feel good music.” The ingredients of this intoxicating cocktail include a big helping of the 1960s organ jazz stylings of Jimmy Smith and Baby Face Willette; a pinch of the snappy soul strut of Booker T. & The M.G.’s, The Meters, and sprinkles Motown, Stax Records, blues, and cosmic Jimi Hendrix-style guitar. It’s a soul-jazz concoction that goes straight to your heart and head makes your body break out in a sweat.

The band features organist Delvon Lamarr, a self-taught virtuosic musician, with perfect pitch who taught himself jazz and has effortlessly been able to play a multitude of instruments. On guitar is the dynamo Jimmy James who eases through Steve Cropper-style chanking guitar, volcanic acid-rock freak-out lead playing, and slinky Grant Green style jazz. From Reno, Nevada is drummer Dan Weiss (also of the powerhouse soul and funk collective The Sextones). Dan’s smoldering pocket-groove drumming locks in the trio’s explosive chemistry.

Founded by Larmarr’s wife and manager Amy Novo, the trio started from humble beginnings in 2015, but since then has released two Billboard charting albums and toured the world to sold out venues. Now, with permanent drummer Dan Weiss behind to kit, DLO3 is proud to present Cold As Weiss, their third studio album to date that finds them tighter than ever, and continuing to push funky instrumental music to a new generation of fans.

Hailed by American Songwriter for their “mind-bending musicality,” moe. is treasured for their mesmerizing musical synergy, unfettered showmanship, and smart, resonant songcraft. For three decades, the band has corralled myriad musical forms on a truly original journey rich with crafty, clever songwriting and astonishing resourcefulness. Fueled by an impassioned fan base, moe. has spent much of those thirty years on the road, encompassing countless live performances marked by eclectic wit, deep friendship, and exploratory invention. Having built an enduring legacy with hard work and a confirmed commitment to creativity and community, moe. seem as surprised as anyone to find themselves at such a significant landmark.

“The career just very subtly unfolded,” says co-founding bassist-singer-songwriter Rob Derhak, “without any of us noticing it actually happened.”

Al Schnier (guitars, vocals), Chuck Garvey (guitars, vocals), and Derhak first came together at the University of Buffalo in 1990, musician-friends uniting to play for the sheer fun of it. The band followed a handful of cassette-only releases with 1992’s FATBOY, recorded in an apartment studio above Buffalo’s Top Shelf Guitars with a bird’s eye view of Mighty Taco.

“We liked music, we liked to party, and we wanted to put those two things together,” says Derhak. “We wanted to do what seemed like the coolest thing we could possibly do and not have to work a regular job. It didn't even seem like a decision had to be made. It's was like, this is what we're doing and it's happening. The idea that thirty years later I would be a dad, paying a mortgage and earning a living, based on our band, with the same guys no less, that never even crossed my mind.”

Finding themselves with an increasingly avid local following, moe. ventured forth, now with master rhythmatist Jim Loughlin among their ranks. The more the band traveled, the more they grew creatively, evincing a remarkable willingness to progress as they went along. moe. quickly became part of a burgeoning scene centered around NYC’s Wetlands, a grassroots revolution that embraced freewheeling genre fusion – spanning funk and free jazz, country and classic rock, prog, new wave, calypso, pop and everything else under the sun – fan interaction, and unrestrained improvisation.

“We adapted,” Derhak says. “Initially we didn't have quite as much of the same ideal at first. We didn't jam or have long extended solos. But as we went from being an opening act to being a headliner, we didn’t have enough material to do two long sets. We needed more material so our songs started to stretch themselves out. We became a jam band.”

moe. widened its reach across America, earning new fans and national attention with their ingeniously imaginative interplay and a regularly growing catalogue. The band spent almost as much time in the studio as they did on the road, mastering their delightfully vibrant blend of inventive musicality and genre-blurring reach on now-classic LPs like 1998’s TIN CANS & CAR TIRES, 2004’s WORMWOOD, 2007’s THE CONCH (which reached #1 on Billboard’s “Heatseekers” chart), and 2012’s critically acclaimed WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LA LAS. As if all that weren’t enough, the moe. canon – released largely through their own Fatboy Records, as well as via two label deals, one major, the other independent – further includes a wide range of archival live releases (including 2000’s L), a Christmas album, even a re-recorded collection of greatest hits.

2020’s THIS IS NOT, WE ARE – the band’s 12th studio album and first since 2014’s NO GUTS, NO GLORY – includes eight new songs, most of which were road tested over the past two years of touring. In addition, the LP features one song making its first appearance anywhere, the Garveypenned “Undertone.” Self-produced by the band, THIS IS NOT, WE ARE sees moe. once again pushing their music forward while simultaneously rifling through their back pages on songs like Derhak’s nostalgic “Skitchin’ Buffalo” and the Al Schnier composition, “Crushing.”

“Our musical paths have diverged so many times,” Derhak says. “All of our original influences became part of what we were at the time and then as we played, our sound kind of just grew. It changed with the landscape of the music business and it changed with what we were listening to. For example, some of our albums further down the road reflect a much stronger Americana influence. It's like, all of the things that we've learned in the past thirty years, all the things that we've done, have sort of come full circle.”

“We’re a better band now,” Amico – who came aboard in 1996 and has remained behind the kit ever since – says. “The reality is, you spent thirty years with people doing what you do, you get better. There's no ifs, ands or buts about it. Your ears get more trained, your playing gets better and better, your ability to communicate with each other better.”

That preternatural interplay was of course honed through night after night, week after week, of on-stage togetherness. moe. is truly a live band, rightly adored by a fervent following for their epic concert performances, each one imaginatively improvisational, rhythmically audacious, and utterly unique. Indeed, the band has spent much of its 30-year career on the road, including innumerable headline tours, international festival sets from Bonnaroo to Japan’s famed Fuji Rock, music-themed cruises, and sold-out shows alongside such like-minded acts as the Allman Brothers Band, Robert Plant, members of the Grateful Dead, Dave Matthews Band, The Who, Gov’t Mule, and Blues Traveler, to name but a few. As if that weren’t enough, moe. has both promoted and headlined at multiple festivals of their own, including snoe.down and moe.down.

“We built our own career,” Amico says, “where we are able to play places like Radio City or the Fox Theater in Atlanta, playing SPAC (Saratoga Performing Arts Center), my hometown venue where I saw concerts as a kid. We’ve played Red Rocks eight times or nine times or however many times we've played it. The fact that we built a career that we’ve played these places and have sustained playing these places, it’s huge.”

That illustrious career path has been supported and nourished by the band’s ever-growing legion of devoted fans and followers, known lovingly as moe.rons. With their astonishing prolificacy and awe-inspiring longevity, moe. is among the rare bands that somehow manage to transcend time and trend to be passed down from one generation to the next.

“We’ve never been the kind of band where you’re one-and-done,” Amico says. “People have gotten married and had kids, now those kids are listening to us.”

“There are people who have been with us right from the beginning in Buffalo,” Derhak says. “Which is insane. But the thing is, we pick up people along the road. There are people who say, I've resisted listening to this band for years and then I finally did – I can't believe I've wasted my time not listening to them for so long. Now they’re like, I need more albums, I need more shows.”

Impossible to pigeonhole as anything other than simply moe., this one-of-a-kind band has never been easily categorized, their sonic adventurousness and tongue-in-cheek humor distinctly and undeniably their own. Despite current circumstances, moe. is celebrating their milestone anniversary with characteristic self-deprecation and wistful optimism. Here’s to the next thirty.

“Thirty years is a long run,” Derhak says, “to be with the same guys. I haven’t even been married for thirty years.”

“You just don’t think about thirty years down the line when you’re starting out,” Amico says. “I mean, you kind of do because that's what you want to be doing for the rest of your life. Here we are, thirty years later – I’ve had this job longer than I probably would’ve had any job in the real world.”

Garage A Trois have returned in the form from which they were born in 1999 with their original line-up comprised by guitarist Charlie Hunter, saxophonist Skerik and drummer Stanton Moore. OG GAT, as they are now known, released their debut album ‘Mysteryfunk’ to wide acclaim those 23-plus years ago. The band evolved over the pursuant decades in various configurations before eventually going on hiatus following its 2015 album, ‘Always Be Happy, But Stay Evil.’ In 2019, however, the original three piece configuration reunited for a handful of shows. This would also result in an afternoon spent recording at Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard’s Studio Litho in Seattle, right across the street from where the band was playing a sold out, three night run at Nectar Lounge. Ace engineer Randall Dunn was invited to document the proceedings and captured the resulting album in one magical session. The resulting album entitled Calm Down Cologne was released by record label Royal Potato Family to rave reviews and an ecstatic fanbase excited to have OG GAT back in action.

A high-stepping mind/body elixir, Calm Down Cologne finds Garage A Trois in full improvisational flight, composing live, in the moment, on the studio floor. Charlie Hunter on the Hybrid Big6 and Stanton Moore on the drums and cymbals are locked in a mountainous groove throughout. Simultaneously, Skerik conjures the melodic lines with one hand on the saxophone and the other on a clutch of analog keys: Modal 001 synth, Rhodes 54 and Mellotron, among them. The jaunty title track is the only pre-composed piece on the collection, while Seattle singer Christa Wells adds the LP's sole overdub—a Stereolab-esque inspired vocal matching the sax/keys line on aptly-titled "The Epic."

Set opener “No Zone” finds OG GAT channeling Stuff with Eddie Harris sitting in. The outcome is electrifying. The album's centerpiece, the massive “In-A-Pro-Pro," stretches ten-plus minutes as it checks a number of vital boxes for which Garage A Trois are celebrated: stone cold funk, outer-space breakbeats, ‘70s 'On The Corner' guitar grease. Ever the masters of shapeshifting, OG GAT seamlessly reconfigure course on "Numinous," a dubbed-out descent that winds down the record.

As for the rather curious album title, the story goes that legendary underground Seattle artist Rick Klu gave Skerik the idea when he was describing a bouncer having to use some ‘calm down cologne’ on an unruly patron. More metaphorically speaking, a whiff of Garage A Trois' new magic potion elicits a “free your mind and your ass will follow” response—truly a much needed balm in these anxiety-ridden times.

From backyard BBQs in Southern California beach towns to its rise as one of the most popular reggae rock bands in the country, Fortunate Youth remains devoted to its roots and a simple mission: Spread peace, love, and unity with music.  It’s a mantra of sorts for the multi-faceted sextet from Hermosa Beach, driving a relentless thirst for live performances and an ever-evolving cache of original material dotted with influences of blues, ska, rock, world, soul, and punk.  Now in 2021, with a fifth studio set, Good Times (Roll On), Fortunate Youth is hoping to rekindle the spirit of those halcyon days, grillin’ and chillin’, and to reunite, once again, with their fans worldwide.

It was first on SoCal Little League fields that the core of the group bonded as friends and brothers before forming the band as twenty-somethings in the summer of 2009.  Out of the ashes of local favorites Rude Boy Roots and Irie State of Mind, Fortunate Youth emerged, graduating from house parties to prized area clubs; and sneaking underage band members into South Bay bars to play their ambitious sets.  They developed an instantly magnetic repertoire around inspired nascent originals and covers of Sublime and Bob Marley, and expanded their circle of fans with early runs in the Golden State and to neighboring Arizona.

They became devoted to performing live, ticking off countless miles in the van crisscrossing the U.S., and logging two years of roadwork before recording their first album.  They played to small but passionate crowds, slept on floors, and earned particularly rabid responses in Florida and the cannabis-friendly ski towns of Colorado.  And true to their egalitarian ethos of brotherhood, even swapped spots onstage, rotating instruments to best fit the performance.  As their popularity increased, so did their schedule, with F.Y. supporting brethren such as Slightly Stoopid, Stick Figure, and SOJA on major tours as well as continuing to headline national treks of their own; totaling over 27 tours since their inception.

Including the forthcoming Good Times, Fortunate Youth has also catalogued over a dozen releases- ten LPs and EPs, studio and live combined, and several singles- since their 2011 debut, Irie State of Mind; notably, all have been recorded, produced, and distributed, in DIY style, by the self-invested band.  After Irie peaked at #2, their next next three studio sets- 2013’s It’s All a Jam; 2015’s Don’t Think Twice; 2017’s Fortunate Youth- each hit #1 on Billboard and ITunes Reggae charts, and landed in the Top 25 of several others.  2017’s self-titled effort, in particular, remained in the Top 10 for five weeks, reaching #9 on iTunes Overall chart.

Now, with the glistening title track, “Good Times (Roll On),” as the album’s lead single, Fortunate Youth turns a slightly nostalgic eye to its humble beginnings in the backyard, plus a few new tasty surprises under the lid.  Also, there’s a wish: that the return of those feel-good vibes finds brighter days for the planet.  “We’re trying to change the world through the music we write and play, and the lives we live out performing onstage,” says singer Dan Kelly.  “We always hope our music can change the outlook of anyone’s day.”

Characterized by complex song structures and guitarist Yvette Young's unique finger-tapping style, instrumental band Covet quickly earned a devoted following with their exploratory math rock sounds. Coming from a background in piano and violin, Young first developed her two-handed guitar-tapping style as a solo artist, but in 2014 she added a rhythm section and formed Covet. Young's virtuosic playing and the band's searching, organic-sounding instrumentals developed as their fan base grew, becoming more involved over the course of several EPs and reaching full realization with their 2020 debut full-length album, Technicolor.

Covet was formed in 2014 by California guitarist/composer/multi-instrumentalist Yvette Young. Young grew up playing piano and violin and eventually applied elements of technique for both instruments to guitar, coming up with a two-handed tapping style that incorporated different approaches from classical music and math rock. While living in Los Angeles in 2009, Young began uploading videos of herself playing online, slowly gaining attention and fans for her virtuosic playing. In early 2014, she released an EP called Acoustics under her own name, but started the band upon moving back to her home of San Jose in the fall of that year. Covet's original lineup included Youna on guitar, bassist David Adamiak, and drummer Ben Wallace-Ailsworth. Unlike Young's gentle acoustic material (which sometimes included vocals), Covet's instrumental sound was derived from post-rock composition and math rock intricacy. The group played around San Jose for about a year, with Wallace-Ailsworth leaving the band, replaced by Keith Grimshaw.

The trio released their first EP, Currents, in December 2015. Touring and various promotional video sessions ensued, including a stop by Audiotree for a live session. Grimshaw left the band and drummer Forrest Rice took his place for the recording of a six-song album called Effloresce, which saw release in July 2018. The following year, Covet issued the three-song EP Acoustics, which featured a new song,

"Predawn," and acoustic renditions of two Effloresce tracks. "Predawn" would appear again in a more electrified reading featuring special guest Phillip Jamieson on Covet's first proper full-length, Technicolor. The album was released in June 2020 and featured ten songs, the longest and most involved collection of the band's music to be released up until that point, ~ Fred Thomas, Rovi

Led by acoustic guitarist and singer songwriter Andrew McConathy—known for his compelling songwriting and distinct, expressive vocals—Drunken Hearts independently released their new single, “Sunlight (feat. Big Richard)” July 29 on all platforms. They also created a music video of the song with stunning surrealist animation, which can be viewed here → https://youtu.be/-qgHfV49Dp4.

McConathy says, “I wrote ‘Sunlight’ in September of 2021, I was depressed about the pandemic and hung up on trying to get things back to the way they used to be. The weekend before, I planned a writing trip to a cabin in the mountains of Colorado but encountered some of the worst writer’s block I’ve ever had. It was pretty frustrating and I guess only made my condition worse. However, when I got home, ‘Sunlight’ emerged the first time I pulled out my guitar.”

The song begins with a more mournful feel and progresses into another realm of joyful sorrow with it’s lyrics:

I can't sleep with light in my eyes

I can't help reaching for the sky

I don't want to leave it all behind

you know I can't stop my mind

This release from Drunken Hearts features McConathy along with Alex Johnson on drums/ percussion/samples, Adrian Engfer on upright bass and violin, Tyler Adams on piano, and Andy Reiner on violin. Johnson recorded the basic tracks in his basement studio in Arvada, CO and then Todd Divel re-tracked the acoustic guitar and vocals at Silo Sound in Denver, CO and finalized the mix and master.

“When we recorded it, I wanted the instrumentation to match the vibe of the song, which felt different from my other releases, and instantly thought cello would be fitting. I made a Facebook post looking for a cellist, and Joy Adams from Big Richard was the first recommendation. At first we just had upright bass, violin, and acoustic guitar, but over time added cello, more strings, piano, and very light drums. I love Big Richard and after already having Joy’s cello, it only made sense to add the rest of the band on harmony vocals to give the song an eerie, siren-esque feel. I love the way ‘Sunlight’ turned out and John Grigsby—bassist in Gregory Alan Isakov’s band—did a fantastic job bringing it all to life with video animation.”

All contributing to backing vocals on “Sunlight” (with Adams on cello), Big Richard is a charismatic, neo-acoustic supergroup formed in 2021 composed of four well-established Colorado musicians including Bonnie Sims [Bonnie & Taylor Sims, Everybody Loves an Outlaw, Bonnie and the Clydes], Joy Adams [Nathaniel Rateliff, Darol Anger, Half Pelican], Emma Rose [Sound of Honey, Daniel Rodriguez, Whippoorwill], and Eve Panning [Lonesome Days]. Big Richard’s vocal parts were recorded by Kyle Donovan at Cinder Sound Studio in Longmont, CO. Joy Adams and husband Andy Reiner recorded and tracked the cello and fiddle parts at their home studio outside of Black Hawk, CO.

Drunken Hearts have previously released four studio albums—Wheels of the City (2019 LoHi Records, Produced by Tim Carbone [Railroad Earth]), The Prize (2018), Love & Thirst (2016) (produced by Rob Eaton of Dark Star Orchestra) and Live For Today (2012)— as well as a live album, Alive 'n Free (2021). More recently they released a series of singles through the pandemic from their EP Wildflower Sessions (recorded at Planet Bluegrass) in 2021 and early 2022. Drunken Hearts have shared the stage with acts like Billy Strings, Mumford & Sons, The Revivalists, Greensky Bluegrass, Mavis Staples, Black Pumas, Stevie Wonder, The String Cheese Incident, Railroad Earth, The Infamous Stringdusters, Elephant Revival, Leftover Salmon, Yonder Mountain String Band, and many more.

Since 2017, Buffalo Commons, a Steamboat Springs, CO-grown project, has been moving souls and feet. The band's harmonizing vocals and tight musicianship has sling-shot them into the Colorado Music scene with huge, infectious energy and an incredibly loyal and fun-loving “Herd” of fans behind them.

You can’t help being captivated by singer/songwriter + guitarist Tyree Woods‘ soulful and powerful voice, Denton Turner's energetic upright bass, Eric Baker on mandolin, Randy Kelley on fiddle, Dan Harris on banjo, and Tyler Cain on drums provide a full-bodied sound that matches the emotion and intensity of Tyree’s vocals.

With original music, well-developed compositions and arrangements, Buffalo Commons stands out as a unique sound in acoustic music. You'll taste the buttery goodness hanging on every note and feel the buzz of the crowd as you enjoy Buffalo Commons’ live sows.

The Fox Theatre in Boulder, Colorado, will be inducted into Colorado Music Hall of Fame on November 4, 2022, during The Fox’s thirtieth-anniversary concert series. Before moe. takes the stage on the first of a three-night stint, legendary music promoter Chuck Morris, founder of Colorado Music Hall of Fame, will formally induct The Fox into The Hall of Fame. “For The Fox to have been successful for thirty years as a venue is almost a miracle in our industry,” Morris says.” With the average life of a rock club less than five years, The Fox’s legendary reputation and success is a testament to their ownership, staff and, of course, the greatest music community in the greater Boulder area.”

The Fox is a member of The Flatirons Sessions Hall of Fame induction class of 2021, along with Hot Rize, Leftover Salmon, The String Cheese Incident and Yonder Mountain String Band. “The original plan was to host an induction concert in December 2021, but the pandemic had other ideas for this induction class,” notes Karen Radman, executive director of Colorado Music Hall of Fame. After inducting Hot Rize at its headlining show at RockyGrass in July, The Hall of Fame decided to induct the rest of the class members individually as well.

"It is unreal to us who made a dream come true thirty years ago that The Fox Theatre is inducted into Colorado Music Hall of Fame, especially alongside the amazing family of musicians who have graced our stage over the decades. We are honored to be part of this great tradition," says Cheryl Liguori, CEO of Z2 Entertainment, which owns and operates The Fox.

The Fox joins a legendary group of over fifty Hall of Famers to date, including John Denver; Caribou Ranch; members of Earth, Wind & Fire; Judy Collins; Barry Fey and Swallow Hill Music. An iconic music venue located on The Hill near the University of Colorado Boulder, The Fox opened in 1992 in a building that’s almost 100 years old, whose previous incarnations include a dance hall, movie theater and other businesses. The Fox’s original talent buyer was Don Strasburg, now the co-president of AEG Presents Rocky Mountains, who remains an owner of The Fox. When Strasburg left for AEG, Eric Pirritt was hired as his successor; Pirritt is now the president of Live Nation Colorado. As a music venue in the ‘90s, The Fox quickly became a "must-play" spot for some of the best artists of our time. Named by Rolling Stone as one of the top live music clubs in the nation, The Fox has hosted a broad spectrum of world class artists such as Dave Matthews Band, Willie Nelson, Chance The Rapper, Tyler-The Creator, Radiohead, Ween, Billy Strings, Phil Lesh, Bonnie Raitt, Widespread Panic and Griz. Fellow members of the The Flatirons Sessions induction class – Leftover Salmon, String Cheese Incident and Yonder Mountain String Band – have all performed on The Fox’s stage multiple times.

The Colorado Music Hall of Fame induction will take place at one of the many thirtieth anniversary shows that The Fox is putting on this year to celebrate its milestone birthday. Tickets for the Friday, November 4 concert are sold out, but livestream tickets are still available at: https://boxoffice.mandolin.com/products/moe-from-the-fox-theatre-boulder-3-show-pass.

Based in the rustic Kootenay mountains of Western Canada, Nathan Gurley and Sean Rodman of nationally renowned electro-folk duo Moontricks draw inspiration from the ongoing cycles of the natural world. Both volatile and constant—like nature’s best offerings—the band finds solace and beauty in the fusion of seemingly disparate elements. There’s a kind of technicolor campfire quality to their uniquely hybrid sound: Each track is steeped in tradition and polished with a futuristic sheen, mixing organic folk, roots rock, and old-time blues with modern electronic production. Since its initial release, the band’s breakout hit “Home” has reached over 5 million streaming plays, and their original tracks have been licensed for a wide range of television networks, including Netflix and Fox Sports. With the release of their debut full-length album Currents, the duo reveals an ever-evolving, cohesive blend of introspective writing, soulful, gritty blues, boot-stomping basslines, and intricate electronic arrangements.

Gurley and Rodman first connected at a music festival in rural BC, then collaborated on a series of rhythmic, instrumental soundscapes that eventually developed into their signature electro-folk sound. After dropping their debut single “Home” in 2013, they joined international tours and festivals in Australia, Costa Rica, and across the USA, gaining a loyal following for their dynamic live shows, which feature a rotating assortment of guitar, keys, banjo, and vocals accented with original electronic elements. Now with their debut album Currents released September 09, 2022 via Westwood Recordings, Moontricks honor the steadfast cycles of nature that carry the world forward, despite the chaos around and inside us. “The solace found in reaching past our personal confines into the vastness beyond them is something we return to again and again—in nature and in our music,” says lead singer and songwriter Rodman. Gurley, who focuses on production, views the album as a series of paths leading into unknown territory. Vast, intimate, and dazzling, Currents is an album about settling into feeling comfortably lost, and being okay with not knowing it all. It’s about finding joy and inspiration in the act of seeking.

Dopapod access a heightened level of cosmic harmony in their music. The quartet—Eli Winderman [keys, vocals], Rob Compa [guitar, vocals], Chuck Jones [bass], and Neal “Fro” Evans [drums]—present albums as experiences meant to be shared out of your speakers and on stage. After generating millions of streams, packing shows coast-to-coast, and earning acclaim from Rolling Stone, Guitar World, Glide Magazine, and more, the group architect an immersive and expansive vision on their self-titled seventh full-length offering, Dopapod.

The group’s hypnotic hybrid of funk, rock, jazz, bluegrass, and electronica bloomed brilliantly on 2009’s Radar, and it continued to blossom on the likes of Never Odd Or Even [2014] and Megagem [2017]. Along the way, fan favorites such as “Present Ghosts” reeled in 2.4 million Spotify streams and counting. 2019’s Emit Time arrived to acclaim from Guitar World, Relix, Glide, Jambase, and more. Simultaneously, they sold out headline gigs and graced the bills of Electric Forest, Summer Camp, High Sierra, and Bonaroo where Rolling Stone named them among the festival’s “best kept secrets.” After a marathon near-decade run, they enjoyed an almost year-long hiatus to realign and reenergize before reuniting with a new fire during 2019 and partaking in something of a “soft return.”

After a brief hiatus to regroup and recharge their creative efforts, Dopapod assembled what would become their next album, the self-titled Dopapod, and looked at the loose threads of their catalog to conceptually tie their journey together. They chose to self-title their seventh offering as a totem to the fact they’ve realized their full potential in terms of music and vision. Tackling time travel, balance and symmetry, binary pairs and more, Dopapod’s palindromic existence continues to conjure alchemy nearly fifteen years into their journey.

1 R&B hit “Lady Marmalade.” George and The Meters toured with the Rolling Stones in '75, were embraced by Led Zeppelin and The Beatles, and became primary influences to modern artists such as Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Beastie Boys.

Decades ago, Kyle Hollingsworth set out on a career in music.  With a wealth of desire and an abundance of ability, Hollingsworth has established himself as a formidable and versatile music talent deftly able to contribute, collaborate, compose, and communicate on a number of levels and within a vast spectrum of musical environments. Today, as a member of acclaimed jam masters The String Cheese Incident, Hollingsworth is revered by both peers and fans for his ability to write and perform in a mosaic of styles, from rock to classical, ragtime to bebop. Playing in SCI has allowed him unrestricted access to the world of music, and has bestowed on him the kind of fearlessness a composer needs to flirt with such disparate genres. Those who’ve seen SCI know that they can jerk from funk to bluegrass on a chord change. “In the jam world, where there are no set ways of doing things, we’re not afraid to move in and out of genres,” he says, “and because of that I’ve learned to be creative, not only onstage but in the studio. I can get on board with something pretty quickly. You have to.”

Sociologists marvel at the enigma that is Joel Cummins, one rarely finds an only child like Joel loose in the wild. An eternal optimist and beacon of positivity, it takes more than a broken keyboard and curfew mix up to rain on Joel’s parade. Unbeknownst to many, Mr. Cummins actually hails from Metropolis, Illinois, growing up mere streets away from Superman, giving him a supernatural ability to amass both vintage & current keyboards. After years of rigorous piano studies, Joel expanded his arsenal to include more than 119 keyboards (after intense negotiations with the crew, Joel’s setup has been limited to six, occasionally seven keyboards, in his live rig). Beyond his extensive keyboard wizardry, Joel brings many other valuable assets to the UM organization. His knowledge of tour routing and keen market analysis proves invaluable to the management team. However his show ideas must occasionally be nixed when it’s clear he’s attempting to route the tour into his next exotic vacation. Four nights in Bali, really Joel?

Joel’s passions extend far beyond the musical realm, with a love for travel with his wife Dasha, great cuisine, chatting up strangers and generally making the world a better place whether he’s on the road or at home in Venice, California. His energy is infectious and despite his age, he still throws a pretty mean spiral. The moniker of Joel Montana rings true when he’s on the field as UM’s quarterback.

Waynard Scheller and Rainbow Full of Sound (RFoS) have quickly become one of the East Coast’s premiere bands playing Grateful Dead songs, thanks to talent and a lot of practice—300 shows’ worth. For 2021 and 2022 dates, Rainbow Full of Sound are taking Grateful Dead fans back in time, recreating the Dead’s legendary Europe 72’ tour on it’s 50th Anniversary. They will trace the path that included twenty-one shows that started in England and traveled  to Denmark, Germany, France, the Netherlands and back to England. Every stop in the Spring of 2022 will align with one of the Europe 72’ tour stops and perform the same set list as the Grateful Dead performed that night 50 years ago.

A little history: Rainbow full of Sound began as a one-off experiment in 2012 when a gang of Dead Heads decided to play the entire 1980 Radio City Music Hall run.  It was so much fun that it took on a life of its own, with a rotating cast that keeps it fresh.  The one consistent link is Waynard, and it makes sense—his commitment to music goes back to a ragtime-piano-playing grandfather, hippie babysitters who brought guitars with them, and then a mom who taught him classics like “Heart and Soul.”

By the age of 10 he was playing guitar, and after lessons in voice and theory but almost none in piano, he became so consumed by the Grateful Dead’s Terrapin Station album that for close to a year he’d listen to it before going to school.  Things were never quite the same afterward.  Soon he switched to keyboards and joined his first Dead-oriented band, Changing Planes. Soon after, he was invited to join one of the oldest Dead-oriented bands, the former Zen Tricksters of Long Island, and they toured for some time as Jam Stampede. He met John Kadlecik, formerly of Dark Star Orchestra and then Furthur and now JGB with Melvin Seals, and worked on three tours with him.

One day he got a call to play a show in a crypt at the Church of the Intercession in Trinity Cemetery, New York City, in the process meeting Zach Nugent (then with Melvin Seals and JGB) and Kenny Brooks (formerly with Bob Weir in RatDog).  His name spread around GD circles, and he played with Weir himself in an SF Bay-Area benefit for the Jerry Garcia Foundation called “Imagine There’s No Hunger,” and after they hit it off, on several other shows. Working with the Foundation brought him into contact with Hot Tuna’s Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady, then another event connected him with Jason Crosby and Grahame Lesh of the Lesh Family Band…and the road goes on.

Rainbow Full of Sound comes with full multi-media, changing with every song to take the audience on a musical adventure of sight as well as sound.

After finally being in the same room for the first time in six months, the Infamous Stringdusters seized the moment for their revealing new album, Toward the Fray. Inspired by self-reflection and a strong sense of solidarity, the project documents the Grammy Award-winning group’s remarkable growth as instrumentalists as well as songwriters. Released on their own label, Americana Vibes, the collection also firmly establishes the band’s stature on the modern acoustic music landscape, where they’ve built a solid and enduring fan base among traditional and progressive audiences alike.

The five band members – Travis Book (bass), Andy Falco (guitar), Jeremy Garrett (fiddle), Andy Hall (Dobro), and Chris Pandolfi (banjo) -- wrote the songs on Toward the Fray separately, sending simple phone demos to each other during lockdown. Fueled by friendship and a mastery of their instruments, the 13-track collection feels live, but not necessarily loose, due to a synergy that’s developed over the last 16 years of playing sheds, clubs, and festival stages across the country.

“With all of our records, we always go into the studio to capture the live energy of our band, so I feel like we were all comfortable just plugging right in and getting started,” Pandolfi says. “All five of us have arrived at this point in our careers where we all produce – we produce our own music and some of us produce for others. We knew we could get it done with all that collective intel and know-how. One of the awesome things about being in this band is that everybody is always working on their instrumental game. When we show up for a new tour or a new album, we all get a chance to dig even a little deeper -- and you can hear that part of it. That’s always been part of our mantra.”

Often referred to as “The Hendrix of the Sahara”, Vieux Farka Touré was born in Niafunké, Mali in 1981. He is the son of legendary Malian guitar player Ali Farka Touré, who died in 2006. Ali Farka Touré came from a historical tribe of soldiers, and defied his parents in becoming a musician. When Vieux was in his teens, he declared that he also wanted to be a musician. His father disapproved due to the pressures he had experienced being a musician. Rather, he wanted Vieux to become a soldier. But with help from family friend the kora maestro Toumani Diabaté, Vieux eventually convinced his father to give him his blessing to become a musician shortly before Ali passed.

Vieux was initially a drummer / calabash player at Mali’s Institut National des Arts, but secretly began playing guitar in 2001. Ali Farka Touré was weakened with cancer when Vieux announced that he was going to record an album. Ali recorded a couple of tracks with him, and these recordings, which can be heard on Vieux’s debut CD, were amongst his final ones. It has been said that the senior Touré played rough mixes of these songs when people visited him in his final days, at peace with, and proud of, his son’s talent as a musician.

In 2005, Eric Herman (still Vieux’s manager today) of Modiba Productions expressed an interest in producing an album for Vieux; this led to Vieux’s self-titled debut album, released by World Village in 2007. Ali Farka Touré’s work to tackle the problem of malaria is continued as 10% of proceeds are donated to Modiba’s “Fight Malaria” campaign in Niafunké through which over 3000 mosquito nets have been delivered to children and pregnant women in the Timbuktu region of Mali. On this first album, Vieux pays homage to his father and follows Ali’s musical tradition, giving new versions of the West African music that is echoed in the American blues. The album features Toumani Diabaté, as well as his late father.

On his second record, Fondo on Six Degrees (2009), Vieux branched out and presented his own sound: while remaining true to the roots of his father’s music he uses elements of rock, Latin music, and other African influences. The album received a great deal of critical acclaim from across the globe, and Vieux was clearly moving out of his father’s shadow.

By June 2010, Vieux was performing at the opening concert for the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. That month Vieux also released his first live album, LIVE. His live performances are highly energized and Vieux is known for dazzling crowds with his speed and dexterity on the guitar, as well as his palpable charisma and luminous smile, both of which captivate audiences from all audiences in spite of any language barriers (though Vieux does speak 8 languages).

In 2011 Vieux released his 3rd studio album, The Secret, so named because the listener will hear the secret of the blues with a blend of generations from father to son. It was produced by guitarist Eric Krasno (of the Soulive trio) and features South African-born vocalist Dave Matthews, Derek Trucks on electric slide guitar and jazz guitarist John Scofield. The title track is the last collaboration between Vieux and his late father. With the heralded release of The Secret, Vieux Farka Touré has clearly established himself as one of the world’s rare musical talents and guitar virtuosos with a distinct style that always pays homage to the past while looking towards the future.

Vieux released The Tel Aviv Session (Cumbancha) in April 2012, a collaborative project with Israeli superstar Idan Raichel dubbed ‘The Touré-Raichel Collective’ that has been hailed by fans and critics alike as a masterpiece and one of the best collaborative albums in the history of international music, drawing comparisons to Ali Farka Touré and Ry Cooder’s legendary Talking Timbuktu album.

In 2013, Vieux Farka Touré’s beautiful and critically acclaimed album Mon Pays was released as an homage to his homeland. Being that his native Mali had recently been splintered by territorial fighting between Tuareg and Islamic rebels since January 2012, Mon Pays was devoted to reminding the world about the beauty and culture of his native Mali. Translated as ‘My Country,’ this predominantly acoustic undertaking transformed into an artifact of cultural preservation. Two songs on the project - ‘Future’ and ‘Peace’ feature Sidiki Diabate’s kora leading an emotional charge complemented by Touré’s spectacular guitar work. Both tracks represent an important generational “passing of the torch” as Sidiki’s father, Toumani is considered one of the greatest living kora masters and was a close friend of Vieux’s father Ali. Mon Pays has been widely hailed as the most mature and lovely record yet from one of this generation’s most exciting artists to come out of Mali and one of world music’s true rising stars.

Vieux reunited with Idan Raichel in Paris to record, release and subsequently tour their 2nd collaborative album as The Touré-Raichel Collective in 2014. The result was yet another musical and critical triumph, titled 'The Paris Session' (Cumbancha) revered by many as not just a musical gem for the ages, but a powerful testimonial to the power of art and fraternity to transcend vast cultural and political divides. In 2015, Vieux released another unexpected, genre-bending collaborative album, this time with New York-based singer Julia Easterlin, aptly titled 'Touristes'. The album shot to the top of the iTunes World chart and earned critical acclaim, including that of John Schaefer (NPR) who called it "brilliant." On April 7, 2017, Vieux released his next album 'Samba', recorded live in front of a small audience at Applehead Studio in Woodstock, NY.

When the COVID pandemic hit in 2020 and all touring ground to a halt, Vieux stayed focussed on his craft at home. He worked tirelessly in the studio he built at his family's compound (which he named 'Studio Ali Farka Toure' in honor of his late father) to record his debut album for World Circuit Records/BMG, the prestigious UK-based record label with whom his father recorded and released most of his own work. The resulting album, 'Les Racines' (released June 2022), sees Vieux masterfully return to the deep roots of the Desert Blues music that his father introduced to the world and Vieux spent most of his career to date exploring, experimenting with, and expanding. 2022 also saw the release of a long-awaited collaborative album between Vieux and Houston-based psych-rock superstars Khruangbin called ‘Ali’ - an album on which the artists join forces to pay homage to Ali Farka Toure by reimagining eight of his songs together.  The album was an instant hit around the globe, immediately getting millions of streams, enormous critical acclaim and even earning the praise of Sir Elton John who called it "one of the albums of the year - absolutely wonderful music." With each new project Vieux broadens his horizons, embraces new challenges and further entrenches his reputation as one of the world’s most talented and innovative musicians.

As a passionate champion for the people of Mali and The Sahel, Vieux founded the charity Amahrec Sahel in 2012. As part of Amahrec Sahel’s mission to support humanitarian reconstruction and culture, the charity has provided school supplies for children, supported an orphanage in Bamako and provided musical instruments for young musicians in Mali. Vieux is also the director of The Ali Farka Touré Foundation, an international organization dedicated to the preservation of Ali’s legacy and the cultural growth of Mali.

For fans of both or either one of these great bands.

At its heart, bluegrass music is about what happens when you commit to the moment. The joy of improvisation keeps the music fresh, and the fun of crafting ideas on the fly keeps the musicians on their toes. This true spirit of bluegrass infuses the self-titled record from Mighty Poplar, a new all-star roots project featuring Andrew Marlin of Watchhouse, Noam Pikelny and Chris Eldridge of Punch Brothers, bassist Greg Garrison (Leftover Salmon) and fiddler Alex Hargreaves (Billy Strings) coming March 31, 2023 on Free Dirt Records. Regarded as some of the finest players of their generation, the playing is never showy and always in service of the song. Though Pikelny, Eldridge, Garrison all knew each other from their early work with Punch Brothers, impromptu backstage jams with Marlin at festivals across the country were the key that unlocked the project. A lifelong song collector, Marlin selected and sang lead on most of the songs here, bringing classics as well as deep cuts from greats like Hazel Dickens & Alice Gerrard, John Hartford, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Norman Blake. Throughout, the songs and tunes are as immediate and emotionally impactful as the playing is tasteful. Gathered knee-to-knee in a rural studio outside Nashville, the collaborative 10-track album emerged organically over a few days. “It felt so special and effortless; it didn’t take work,” says Eldridge, “other than the work and effort we’ve put in the rest of our lives.” With their debut album, Mighty Poplar has captured the fierce and playful energy of an all-night jam between old friends who just happen to be grandmasters of the music.

Speaking to the band, it’s clear that each player joined out of pure excitement to play music with each other. “I’m convinced Alex Hargreaves only knows how to play the perfect notes at the perfect times,” muses Eldridge. Pikelny speaks highly about Marlin’s innate musicality: “We listen to a lot of Watchhouse at our house. Supporting a singer and songwriter of Andrew’s caliber is about the most rewarding thing I get to do, so I leapt at the opportunity to collaborate when Greg first pitched the idea for this project.” Marlin talks up the other players' instrumental virtuosity. “When I think about it from a player’s perspective, I didn’t feel like I belonged in this group; I haven’t spent my life trying to improve my chops. I’ve been more of a song gatherer,” a humble Marlin admits. That last point is key here, as it focused the approach to the new album on an appreciation for the roots of bluegrass and for the songs especially. Inspired by the 1980s albums of The Bluegrass Album Band, which united some of that era’s best bluegrass players, Mighty Poplar sought to emulate the fun and spontaneity of those inspirational recordings. “My love for the sound and feel of those Bluegrass Album Band records–the energy, the undeniable chemistry, the subtle virtuosity–led me to imagine what that might look like in our collective gumbo of today’s bluegrass,” says Garrison. “We grew up on those records,” Eldridge continues. “We loved the idea of musicians banding together for a special project where you explore your common influences.” But don’t mistake Mighty Poplar for a tribute record; the band aimed to find their own arrangements and deliver fresh takes on the songs. In Eldridge’s words: “It’s an homage to where we came from, without it being a recreation of an earlier era.”

The songs and tunes on Mighty Poplar run through the history of bluegrass from the earliest Appalachian stringbands (“Grey Eagle”) to the more recent, “Up on the Divide,” from Montana bard Martha Scanlan and a reworking of Uncle Dave Macon’s “Lovin’ Babe” by songwriter Kristin Andreassen. Each song was carefully selected; “Even in a karaoke bar these songs would stand up,” jokes Pikelny. Marlin worked to pick out songs that were also evocative of a time and a specific geography. “Each song feels like it was written from a very personal place,” Marlin says. “‘North Country Blues’ - you feel that from Dylan. You’re there outside the mill with him reminiscing about the glory days of the steel industry.” One of the most surprising tracks on the album is Marlin’s eloquent and careful reimagination of Leonard Cohen’s “Story of Isaac.” “Cohen’s version was so heavy,” says Marlin. “The first time I ever heard him sing that tune I felt like I’d just survived falling down a hill. For our version, I tried to take this really serious heavy subject and put it to some not-quite-as-heavy music.” Marlin jokes that’s the spirit of bluegrass. “You take sad songs and make them sound a little happier, and you’ve got yourself a Stanley Brothers album all of a sudden.”

With the songs decided, Marlin suggested recording at a studio in the woods outside of Nashville called The Tractor Shed. A literal converted tractor shed, the warmth of the studio was the perfect setting to capture the live feel of the music. “The songs really came into their own in front of the mics,” Pikelny explains. “A lot of first or second exploratory ideas made it onto the record, as opposed to having an idea being thrown out and having weeks of refining and tweaking. I love catching that initial energy and spark. It means that things won’t always be squeaky clean, but I’ll take that lightning in a bottle over perfection.” Fueling the interplay between each artist, these improvisational adventures built a structure for new interpretations of the songs. “You’re constantly in dialogue with the moment,” Eldridge says. “It’s the ripples, man,” Marlin echoes. “You hear someone have a powerful idea and it subtly ripples through the band.” But it was the groove that was most important to everyone. As Marlin explains, “I’ve never played in a bluegrass setting where the groove was so undeniable. The songs just unfolded because the playing wasn’t something to think about.”

There’s a level of curiosity and engagement that’s only found at the highest echelons of music making. What sets Mighty Poplar apart from the members' full time endeavors with Punch Brothers, Watchhouse, Billy Strings, and Leftover Salmon is that this band "is a chance to play real deal bluegrass", says Eldridge. Pikelny agrees, adding that “in some ways this album is biographical for each one of us. It was an opportunity to play the music that we love at our core, and the music that has informed what we do in our other long-standing projects.” Ultimately, there was a kind of joy and relief in coming back to their roots in celebration and camaraderie. “There’s a reunion element to this,” he says, “which is ridiculous because it was the first time all five of us were in the same room. But the ease in which it came together felt like we were getting the band back together.”

Babe Rainbow are a stoner pop band from Australia noted for their boogie psychedelia and throwback surf cult imagery.

Formed 2015 in Rainbow Bay by kiosk lurkers Jack Crowther aka Cool Breeze  Angus Dowling and Elliot O’Reilly. At a time the three worked for local grower John Cutts in Duranbah NSW near tropical fruit world. John and the guys were cranking out the kale way before it was cool. “We’ve seen plenty of vegetables go in and out of fashion” says Angus.

Initially rooted in 60’s psych and 70’s French surf pop the Babe’s musical style has evolved through their career exploring elements of woodland bop and disco, dub and more recently dance and international groove, yet has maintained an Aquarian quality built of Dowling’s spacemen singing style and Cool Breeze’s chiming effects-based guitar sounds.

Babe wrote and recorded their first release “The Babe Rainbow EP” in a 2nd hand bookstore in Murwillumbah which was soon picked up by national broadcaster triple J and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard label Flightless Records. In 2017 they released their debut album produced by Stu Mackenzie and smacked out support tours with King Gizzard, Allah Las, Tomorrows Tulips, and French synth wave band La Femme internationally.

The debut Babe Rainbow album was signed to 30th Century / Columbia. The “Double Rainbow” (2018) followed and then “Today” (2019). Wollongong surfer Miles Myjavec joined on drums around this time. Babe Rainbow now own all their masters and future releases including album four 'Changing Colours' which was the first on the bands own label EUREKA! Music through AWAL.

Due to a scheduling issue, Dogs in a Pile has been moved to Thursday, April 13, 2023.   All existing tickets for April 14 will be honored.  If you're unable to attend the new date, refunds will be offered at point of purchase for the next 14 days.  Apologies for any inconvenience and we look forward to seeing you on April 13!  Thank you!

The sandy shores of Asbury Park, New Jersey are hallowed ground in the northeast; the rolling waves have ushered generations of venerated musicians to worldwide acclaim. Dogs In A Pile, an eclectic quintet, has emerged as the heir apparent to the town’s rich musical legacy. Merging funk, jazz, and rock and roll with psychedelia, the quintet presents a completely original vibe built on kaleidoscopic soundscapes eerily reminiscent of the days of yesteryear.

The Dogs employ a unified approach to performance and songwriting, crafting aural mosaics through adept instrumentation and humble precocity. As avid storytellers, they draw inspiration from personal experiences, balancing life’s foibles with ever-present youthful sanguinity.

Dogs began when Philadelphia University of the Arts guitar gun-slinger Jimmy Law began playing with young Joe Babick (drums), a student at the Count Basie Theater program in Red Bank, NJ.  Lightning struck when they were introduced to Berklee School of Music student and bass player Sam Lucid, who immediately suggested fellow Berklee student and keyboard player Jeremy Kaplan. The addition of fellow Berklee student Brian Murray (guitar) in 2019 made for the quintessential final piece in the Dogs’ puzzle.

A string of successful local shows drove the development of a massive northeast fan base, affectionately known as the Dog Pound. The band’s astronomical growth culminated in an epic, sold-out performance at the legendary Stone Pony in Asbury Park during the summer of 2021. Armed with a fresh batch of new material, Dogs in a Pile is taking its perpetually evolving testament to the Great American Songbook on tour in 2022, visiting plenty of new cities and spreading good music and good energy to good people along the way.

Something downright mystical is happening on Colorado’s Front Range. The very roots of traditional acoustic music seem to sprout from the dirt, shaking their dust into the winds of change, to be breathed in and become the soul of musicians who craft their songs here.

Such is the music of Wood Belly, a musical collective of Chris Weist (mandolin), Tom Knowlton (guitar), Chris Zink (dobro), Aaron McCloskey (banjo) and Taylor Shuck (bass). A Wood Belly song has its own lyrical persona and masterful arrangement; rooted in bluegrass tradition and planted solidly in contemporary innovation.

The band has been garnering attention since the release of their 2018 debut album Solid Ground, which was followed by a win at the prestigious Telluride Bluegrass Band Competition (earning them a main stage performance slot at the 2019 festival), as well as a 2018 IBMA Momentum Band of the Year nomination.

Wood Belly released it's second album, Man on the Radio in January of 2020 capping an impressive stretch of writing and releases. The new 13-track collection was recorded at Swingfingers Studio in Fort Collins, CO with Grammy winning producer Sally Van Meter and engineer Aaron Youngberg, and features special guest fiddler Jeremy Garrett of The Infamous Stringdusters on several tracks.

The band first started playing together in 2015 and the music fell into place immediately. The instrumentation and rhythmic drive of the band is like a tree trunk centered in bluegrass with branches that uninhibitedly reach out in many directions. There is a powerful focus on songwriting, with influences from multiple genres. Wood Belly, like other bands in the Newgrass or Grassicana realm, is rooted in tradition but refuses to be confined. Their sound is authentic, passionate and always entertaining. Every member of the band writes and they take a collaborative approach to sculpting a song once the basic structure is in place, refining and editing until a seamless arrangement reveals itself.

Whether it’s a hard driving bluegrass song, a multi-layered instrumental, a pop-oriented hook-laden tune, or a poetic waltz— each song has something to say. There’s an identity, a message in every song, delivered in a characteristic Wood Belly style that is warm and true, occasionally haunting and the next moment light and uplifting. The timbre of voice and strings is solid, confident, honest and playful. Every member sings and vocals are a significant part of the Wood Belly sound.

Since its formation, the band has played an ever-expanding list of great venues including the Mishawaka amphitheater, the Boulder Theater, Wildflower Pavilion (Planet Bluegrass), The Fox Theater (Boulder), The Oriental Theater (Denver) and Cervantes’ (Denver). Their festival resume includes the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Winter WonderGrass, Northwest String Summit, Palisade Bluegrass and Roots, the Durango Bluegrass Meltdown, The Ogden Music Festival, Rhythms on the Rio, Campout for the Cause, the Keystone Bluegrass and Beer Festival, Rapidgrass, and more.

Wood Belly has shared bills with The Infamous Stringdusters, Del McCoury Band, The Steeldrivers, Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, The Lil' Smokies, Front Country, Wood & Wire, Trout Steak Revival, Steel Wheels, and many more.

Maybe you are just like John Darnielle: In the depths of the pandemic winter at the end of 2020, the Mountain Goats frontman passed the time trapped at home in North Carolina watching pulpy action movies, finding comfort in familiar tropes and sofabound escapism. But you are not really like John Darnielle, unless the action movies you found comfort in included French thrillers like 2008’s Mesrine, vintage Italian poliziotteschi, or the 1974 Donald Pleasence mad-scientist vehicle The Freakmaker. Or unless watching them brought you back to your formative days as an artist, when watching films fueled and soundtracked your songwriting jags and bare-bones home recordings and in turn inspired your 20th album to be a song cycle about the allure—and futility—of vengeance. But there’s no shame in not being like John Darnielle; few people are.

“On earlier tapes you’ll find these sound samples,” Darnielle says. “‘Oh, where’s this sample from?’ It’s from whatever movie I was watching while I was sitting around on the couch with a guitar. I watch a movie, somebody’d say something that I like the sound of and I’ll write that phrase down. And then I would pause the VHS, write the song, record the song on a boombox, and go back to watching my movie. I got into doing that again; I just kept watching action movies and taking notes on what they’re about and on what the governing plots and tropes and styles are. It was very much like an immersion method acting technique.”

The resulting performance is Bleed Out, a cinematic experience unto itself. One song about preparing to exact bloody revenge begat another song about the act of exacting bloody revenge and then more songs about and the causes and the aftermath of being driven to exact bloody revenge, each delivered with the urgency and desperation deserving of their narrators and circumstances.

Just as Getting Into Knives and Dark in Here—recorded in Memphis and Muscle Shoals, respectively, in the first two weeks of March 2020, just before such a thing would become impossible—were heavily informed and influenced by their historic settings, Bleed Out is all pent-up energy and explosion, executed by a bunch of friends who were mainly happy to be in a room together making loud noises. In January 2021, just weeks after Darnielle had started writing, his bandmates Peter Hughes, Matt Douglas, and Jon Wurster joined him at a studio in the woods near his home in Chapel Hill. Everything was finished inside a week.

“We often make a record and then bring in some guests who flesh out the textures,” Darnielle says. “And for this one, it was very much like a pack mentality. That sort of seemed to proceed from the songs.” One new face was that of Bully’s Alicia Bognanno, recommended to Darnielle by his manager as a producer who could help nurture the rougher-edged sound these songs requested. “We met up and hit it off. She’s a great guitarist. It was kind of just a lark, to see what would happen, and it was totally great.”

That abandon is on full display from the opening track, “Training Montage,” which lovingly documents the getting-ready-for-battle scene in any action movie regardless of provenance and loudly declares its intentions: “I’m doing this for revenge.” This and the next song, “Mark on You,” were the first two Darnielle wrote, and they set the tone for everything that follows on Bleed Out.

Running narrative themes are not new to Mountain Goats projects, especially in recent years, be it the pro wrestlers of 2015’s Beat the Champ or the goths of 2017’s Goths. Darnielle was drawn to the antiheroes of the hard-boiled action flicks he was bingeing, particularly the ways in which their quests for justice were almost all inevitably doomed.

“In these movies and elsewhere, it’s such a dearly held trope, when in fact, I don’t think anybody really exacts much revenge in this life at all,” he says. “Because we all know that revenge is bullshit, right? The Greeks knew this. It’s never a zero-sum game. And yet the idea is so delicious, you can’t get enough of it. It’s more of a grail—because you can’t have it, it starts to seem really appealing. That’s why you want to get revenge, because you know you’re never going to get revenge.”

Bleed Out could be all one movie, from the opening training montage to the demise in the elegiac closing title track. Songs like “Make You Suffer,” “First Blood,” “Hostages,” and “Need More Bandages” do what they say on the tin, telling typically vivid, deliberately recognizable vignettes of desperate characters in no-win situations who plan on taking as many people down with them as they have to. But Darnielle sees these as unconnected stories that feel universal in their desire for justice, if not in their wanton bloodshed. Anthems don’t get more straightforward or anthem-y than “Wage Wars Get Rich Die Handsome,” tapping into an anger that’s easy to reach in 2022, even if the solutions aren’t.

Few people think as much, or as well, about violence and its portrayal as John Darnielle. His recent bestselling novel Devil House (his third) is all about the relationship between tragedy and entertainment, though he is careful to downplay any parallels to Bleed Out beyond a natural attraction to terrible things as a coping mechanism.

“That’s what catharsis is,” he says. “When you are able to experience something that is frightening to you but you don’t have to be harmed by it—that experience is really valuable. I think we’re reflecting on the nature of what we consume and of what it says about us.”

LP Giobbi is a multi-talented DJ, producer, pianist and activist who is quickly rising to superstar status. Since emerging in the dance scene in 2018, she’s played high-profile festivals including Coachella, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Tomorrowland, Electric Forest, and Creamfields. She's also supported iconic artists like Pete Tong (opening up for him two nights at London’s O2 Arena and then sitting in with the Ibiza Classics orchestra on a grand piano to play a song she wrote with them), Fatboy Slim, Diplo, Mochakk, DJ Tennis, Dead & Co, John Summitt and Sofi Tukker, everywhere from Fabric in London, Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, The Warehouse Project in Manchester, to Amnesia and Ushuaïa in Ibiza. LP Giobbi’s music has amassed over 102M streams across platforms so far and she’s been hotly tipped as TIDAL’s Artist to Watch (2023), Spotify’s EQUAL Ambassador (2022), Spotify RADAR’s Artist to Watch (2022) and Amazon’s Artists to Watch (2021). She was also nominated for Breakthrough Producer in DJ Mag’s Best of North America Awards and landed on the cover of Spotify's Best of Electronic Music 2022. As a DJ she incorporates her jazz-trained skills as an improviser to add live piano and modular electronics to her sets, on a quest to become what she calls “a one-woman jam band.” As a producer, she brings together a strong sense of melody and arrangements—as well as her finely-honed performance skills—from her jazz and classical background with the instincts she’s learned on the road for what moves a roomful of bodies.

Her love for music began in early childhood where she started out taking piano lessons in second grade with longtime teacher and mentor Carolyn Horn, who gave her a classical education while also nurturing Giobbi’s playful sense of creativity which would become a core part of her musical identity. LP Giobbi would then earn a degree in jazz piano performance at UC Berkeley and was playing a solo jazz gig at a bar when she was approached to join an all-girl electronic band. This crash-course education in production and sound design would end up launching her on a brand new dance-oriented trajectory.

Fast-forward to 2018, where LP Giobbi stepped onto the dance scene as a producer with a string of singles that brought together the funky flavor of classic house music with a sense of sonic exploration, and a live show that inspired SOFI TUKKER to offer the young artist their mentorship and a record deal. Since then she’s carved out an identity for herself as one of electronic music’s most organic performers, bringing years of training in classical and jazz piano performance to her piano-centric productions, creating a sound that can easily fill up arenas without losing its deeply human touch. Along the way she’s used her growing stardom to power her FEMME HOUSE nonprofit, building community and inclusion in the world of dance music, and emerging as one of the genre’s most passionate and driven activist/artists.

LP Giobbi’s upcoming debut album, Light Places, out on May 12, 2023 on Ninja Tune’s imprint Counter Records stands as a comprehensive declaration to who she is as an artist. Here, she brings an organic freedom found in improvised music (from long-standing inspirations Bill Evans and The Grateful Dead) and spontaneous collaboration to incorporate core principles of simplicity to often intricate structures of dance music, making for a set of songs that simply feel good. The process of creating complementary tracks coincidentally widened LP Giobbi’s artistic lens to expand her production abilities beyond the confines of crafting standalone singles. This broadened space gave LP Giobbi room to peel back multiple meanings contained in a simple phrase (“If Love is A Skill (feat. Sofi Tukker)”), wield dynamic tom fills and distorted bass with intent (“Georgia”) and harness the never-ending power of love from friends and family (“All I Need”). By the end, the album feels like something greater than itself and will leave anyone who comes across it feeling like anything is possible.

Although she’s racked up huge gigs, stellar remixing opportunities (providing unique reinterpretations to music from the likes of Portugal. The Man, Diplo & TSHA, Kx5, MK, Dom Dolla, Tycho and Carlita among others), and a raft of various titles and accolades (Spotify EQUAL Ambassador, North American Music Director for W Hotels, host of FEMME HOUSE Radio), Giobbi’s never lost sight of a music-making ethos centered around collaborative effort. Behind the scenes, she’s launched a multifaceted label/publishing house/collective called Animal Talk (alongside partners SOFI TUKKER), and founded the nonprofit FEMME HOUSE which is dedicated to educating budding beatmakers and counteracting gender disparities in dance music, where women make up only two percent of producers. Since launching in 2019, FEMME HOUSE has provided thousands of female and gender expansive individuals access to production workshops, online courses, and scholarship programs for LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC creators covering everything from songwriting to sound design. It’s blossomed into a multidimensional effort encompassing bootcamps, livestreams, a FEMME HOUSE Radio show on SiriusXM’s Diplo’s Revolution, along with stage takeovers at EDC and Hulaween Music Festival and the FEMME HOUSE Takeover Tour, mixing club dates with in-person workshops with a mission to bring “the house party to the school house.” Both in 2021 and 2022 FEMME HOUSE joined forces with Alicia Keys’ She Is the Music and Emily Lazaar’s We Are Moving the Needle for a sold-out, month-long production bootcamp, where over 3k enrollees from over 1.4k cities and 77 countries learned how to produce music together.

“Dance music was started by black queer people to create a safe space and I'm just here to uplift those voices and add to the safety of the space however I can,” says Giobbi, “Through stage takeovers, the radio show, and different platforming opportunities, I’m trying to highlight these voices, so that other people can see themselves represented and say 'I can be and do anything in this world' because it's hard to be what you can't see.

As Giobbi’s profile continues to rise, she continues to grow and explore, improvising her way towards her own musical ideal. “I love the jam band ethos,” says Giobbi, the daughter of two devoted Deadheads, who often appears onstage in one of an arsenal of Dead t-shirts. (She also put together a Dead House set and a remix album Garcia (Remixed) where she weaves the sounds of Grateful Dead’s catalogue and Jerry Garcia’s first solo album over house beats.) “I’m constantly asking myself, is this interesting enough to come back to? My parents went to over 80 Dead shows in their life. I want to make my music interesting enough to come back to over and over, where it feels familiar, but you also have no idea what you're gonna get.”

Wielding an ethereal croon and masterful whistle crafted from a lifetime chasing lizards through the Ozark hills, Nick Shoulders is a living link to roots of country music with a penchant for the absurd Combining his family's deep ties to regional traditional singing with his years of playing to crowded street corners, Nick has sought to forge a hybridized form of raucously clever country music; born of forgotten rocky hollers and bred to confront the tensions of the 21st century South. As evidenced by his surreal album art and anachronistic songwriting, Nick's creative output is steeped in the complicated history of his beloved home of rural Arkansas, but crafted as a conscious rebuke of country music's blind allegiance to historical seats of power and repression. With a kind word and a mean yodel, Nick hopes to put the 'Try' in country.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, McKinley first began singing at age eight in the choir at his family's Baptist church. Growing up, he imbibed his Kentucky-born father's LPs, listening to artists like Hank Williams and George Jones, as well as Bob Dylan, Otis Redding, and Van Morrison. By his teens, he was playing guitar and singing in punk bands. However, in his twenties he began writing his own songs, gravitating toward rootsy country and soul sounds, mixing it with his varied rock influences. A troubled period involving drugs waylaid his career and found him moving away from music. For several years, he drove a truck delivering tuxedos between Cincinnati and Detroit. He eventually returned to songwriting and in 2014 released his debut album, Arlo McKinley & the Lonesome Sound. Hitting the road, he gained wider attention touring alongside roots luminaries like Tyler Childers, John Moreland, Jason Isbell, and Justin Townes Earle. In March 2020, he became the final artist signed by legendary singer/songwriter John Prine's Oh Boy Records label just before Prine's death that April. In August 2020, McKinley released his sophomore album and Oh Boy debut, Die Midwestern, recorded at Sam Phillips Recording Studio with Grammy-winning producer Matt Ross-Spang. 2022 saw the release of McKinley's third long-player, the inward-looking This Mess We're In.

SO I heard you like to boogie on down aye?

Mr. Mota – Max Lerman [vocals, keys], Rosen [vocals, guitar], Willie Vogel [guitar], Ari Lerman [bass], and Brendan Lamb [drums] – wondrously blend genres with intense jams, crowd-capturing hooks, and a fiery young energy that is only possible from a group of tight-knit friends. The band formed in May of 2021 from a backyard graduation party in Boulder, Colorado. One show was all it took for the group to receive countless other offers to play more in Boulder. From there, the band landed on the name Mr. Mota and off they went, booking shows across the state, from Denver, Durango, Grand Junction, and everywhere in between. With their first single released in November 2022, after a year and a half of playing and touring, Mr. Mota built their following on their live shows. They have been working tirelessly to build a local fan base and were able to celebrate their work headlining the Fox Theater twice in December ‘21 and May ‘22, selling 500+ tickets per show.

As most bands tend to release music from the moment they form and build their live music performances slowly around their released music. Mr. Mota has done the opposite. Mr. Mota has an affinity for performing live shows and their ability to quickly pick up a following in the area has proven such. The members believe that focusing on live performances for their first year and a half was essential to build the camaraderie and flow that’s needed to make hit records in the studio. Now, the era of only being able to listen to Mr. Mota songs at a venue has changed. The fans have spoken and Mr. Mota has listened.

Fall of 2022 is a pivotal point for Mr. Mota as they are set to release their first single, “Smoke Too Much” on November, 2nd. The band has acknowledged that their main goal for 2023 is to get into the national spotlight. In order to achieve that, they have booked studio sessions at multiple studios this fall including Mighty Fine Productions in Denver, CO and The Spot Studios in Evergreen, CO. They are continuing to book shows in the area throughout the winter and spring with emphasis on opening for touring acts in order to build regional and national exposure.

When people first meet Daniel Donato, they’re not fully braced for this walking tornado of creative energy. “They think there’s something that tips the scale in ways they don’t understand,” says Donato about his over-the-top, slightly manic vibe. “But what actually tips the scale is the amount of thought and analysis I put into my work and art, all of which is taken from the lessons of my life.”

Donato, a 25-year-old Nashville native, has distilled those life lessons into his debut album, A Young Man’s Country, his proper introduction to the general musical audience. Recorded at Nashville’s Sound Emporium in a mere two days and produced by guitar-ace Robben Ford, the record weaves outlaw country, Grateful Dead-style Americana, and first-rate songwriting into a singular form Donato calls “21st-century cosmic country.”

It might surprise some that the Telecaster-wielding wunderkind, who at 16 became the youngest musician to regularly play the iconic honky tonk Robert’s Western World while gigging with the Don Kelley Band, began his musical journey in a purely millennial fashion. Before he ever picked up a guitar, he discovered he had an aptitude for music via the video game Guitar Hero. At the time, he didn’t feel compelled to try his hand at the real thing until one day, about the age of 12, he heard the electric perfection of Guns ‘N’ Roses’ “Paradise City” blast from a set of speakers and his world was changed forever.

“It was the first time I ever had a vision for my life,” says Donato, who was partly drawn to music because he sucked royally at skateboarding. “I then took one of my dad’s old guitars . . . and I literally fell in love with it.” From then on, Donato lived and breathed music, practicing his chops around the clock. He’d play before school, during his lunch break, and in the evenings at home, sometimes falling asleep with the six-string in his hands.

It wasn’t long before he was busking on lower Broadway in Nashville, playing eight hours a day on weekends for tips. It was after one of those day’s sessions that he got a wild hair and snuck into Robert’s on a night when house act the Don Kelley Band was playing and his wig-dome was blown. “It was the first time I ever saw a band that was that good up close,” Donato said. “So I’m literally watching them play and I’m crying. I decided right then that I wanted to be the best guitar player in the world.”

Donato continued busking outside arenas before John Mayer and Phish concerts and on the streets of Nashville and it was then, while playing on Broadway, that he’d give Don Kelley his business card every Saturday night, hoping for a chance to audition. One day, while still a junior in high school, he got the call to come play. Donato was more than ready, and he delivered the goods in spades. He was so good, in fact, that he became a regular member of the band, performing four nights a week for more than 450 shows with the group.

Playing nightly with the Don Kelley Band was a formidable education for the young musician. Jamming regularly with Nashville’s most seasoned players, stalwart pickers who may have played in Buck Owens’ band, or Dolly Parton’s, or Alan Jackson’s, expanded his musical vocabulary while honing his stage presence. Along the way he was soaking up stories of adventures on the road and learning about the ups and downs of the music business. In short, he was gaining priceless life lessons and a musical education from wells that run deep into the musical history of Nashville.

Around the time he turned 18, one of Donato’s high-school teachers, a serious music lover who had seen his student play at Robert’s, gave him a Grateful Dead box set. It was another eureka moment for the guitarist. His love for the Dead may have been ignited much earlier by virtue of the fact that his mother was a bona fide Deadhead who followed the group on tour when she was pregnant with the future guitarist, but it was that collection that changed the way he looked at music. “It gave me a tie to all of the classic country gold I’d been working down at the honky-tonks each weekend,” he said. “Grateful Dead and Merle Haggard had always lived in my heart, but now, the link was made, and I had a vision on how to keep it alive for this generation that I am coming from.”

During the days of his Robert’s residency, Donato continued to busk at various locales, even playing the Grand Ole Opry, and it is the sum of all these gigs, experiences any teenage musician would kill for, that inform the sounds on A Young Man’s Country.

“Ain’t Living Long Like This,” one of three covers on the album, is a song by Waylon Jennings, who was recording at the Sound Emporium the day Donato was born. “Angel From Montgomery,” a song Donato learned on the fly while busking for tourists, pays tribute to the late John Prine. Donato recorded his unique take on the tune before Prine’s death. The Grateful Dead’s “Fire On The Mountain” is tacked on to “Meet Me In Dallas,” a tune Donato wrote while on the road with Paul Cauthen. The other seven songs, all originals, showcase the promise of a young songwriter coming into his own, one of the highlights being “Luck of the Draw.”

The message of these songs contains the central tenet of Donato’s “Cosmic Country” ethos, which is about finding the courage to blaze your own path. As such, it is an ethos the artist extends beyond music into the channels of social media, where he’s built up a huge following of devoted “DD Heads,” as his fans call themselves. His podcast, “Daniel Donato’s Lost Highway,” brings together like-minded creatives to get at the heart of what makes artists tick, for which he’s interviewed Brothers Osborne, Brent Cobb, Orville Peck, and Garry Talent of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band.

Incubated to the sounds of the Dead, educated by some of Nashville’s finest players, and having more than 2,000 shows under his belt and a social media presence, Daniel Donato is indeed a millennial whirligig of creative fire. He’s been dabbling in professional music since the age of 14 and yet he’s just getting started. A Young Man’s Country is the portrait of a restless artist as a young man, one whose story is singular and is still in its exciting, early chapters -- and as this effort shows, the future is indeed cosmic.

G. Love, reflecting on his long-standing career, shares, "I've been in the game a long time, but I've always considered myself a student." Having recently finished the album 'The Juice' with Keb Mo', he feels it's a culmination of his journey, a "graduation."

Recorded in Nashville and featuring distinguished artists such as Robert Randolph, Marcus King, and Roosevelt Collier, 'The Juice' is a testament to G. Love's dedication to his craft. The album is a vivid blend of the blues, infusing modern pop spins on the genre and interspersed with hip-hop grooves. It's a call to hope, determination, empathy, and unity in an era ripe with doubt and despair.

Having started his journey as Garrett Dutton in Philadelphia, PA, G. Love's musical heritage spans folk, blues, rap, and more. Over the years, he's collaborated with an eclectic array of artists, from Lucinda Williams and Dave Matthews to The Avett Brothers and Jack Johnson.

One collaboration stands out. "Keb Mo' and I got signed to the same label at the same time," G. Love recalls. Their partnership over the years culminated in Keb Mo' co-producing 'The Juice', a creative process that merged their unique styles, resulting in a masterpiece that's both nostalgic and fresh.

When asked about his aspirations, G. Love muses, "I've never been the kind of guy who thinks he's going to change the world with his guitar. But maybe I can write the kind of songs that give strength and encouragement to the people who are out there doing the work to make this planet a better place."

And while G. Love is most known for his iconic sound, his recent ventures include launching his beer collaboration, starting his own festival, and founding his record label, Philadelphonic. As he succinctly puts it, "I'm more inspired right now than I've ever been before. I'm making the records I've always wanted to make."

Join G. Love & Special Sauce for a night of memorable performances, a journey through time, and an exploration of profound musical creativity. Special guest Jakobs Castle promises to make this evening even more electrifying.

In the heart of Burlington's vibrant music scene, a memorable evening in December 2018 at Nectar’s witnessed the convergence of three musical virtuosos: Russ Lawton, Scott Metzger, and Ray Paczkowski. This serendipitous gathering birthed LaMP, a trio whose name cleverly combines the initials of these talented artists. Their upcoming performance at Fox Theatre on Friday, March 22, 2024, marks another milestone in their extraordinary journey.

LaMP's origin story is one of spontaneity and synergy. That night at Nectar’s, the trio's impromptu collaboration unveiled a fresh, vibrant sound characterized by technical brilliance and rhythmic mastery. The audience, part of a packed house, was the first to witness the emergence of this dynamic ensemble.

In the spring following their debut, LaMP reconvened at Sugarhouse Soundworks in Vermont. Under the skilled guidance of sound engineer Roger Stauss, the trio laid down tracks for what would become their self-titled debut EP. This recording session captured the unique blend of Lawton's steadfast drumming, Paczkowski's mesmerizing keyboard work, and Metzger's versatile guitar play.

Scott Metzger, known for his work with Joe Russo’s Almost Dead and lauded by The Village Voice for his eclectic guitar prowess, brought new dimensions to the established chemistry between Lawton and Paczkowski, both veterans of the Trey Anastasio Band and the duo project Soule Monde. The resulting EP, featuring seven tracks brimming with energy and soul, showcases the trio's melodic and harmonic synchronization.

Since its inception, LaMP has been committed to sharing their music far and wide, performing across the East Coast whenever their busy schedules align. Their growing fanbase and increasingly popular shows are a testament to their rising stature in the music world.

About M.C. Taylor and Jump for Joy
In the spring of 2023, M.C. Taylor expressed a newfound sense of joy and eternity, a significant sentiment for the artist whose work has deeply explored themes of adulthood, fatherhood, spirituality, and depression. The upcoming performance is inspired by his latest album, "Jump for Joy," composed throughout a year marked by constant touring and reflective introspection amidst global uncertainty.

"Jump for Joy" is Taylor's sharpest and most autobiographical work to date, serving as a meditation on a life lived passionately through art. It features the fictional character Michael Crow, an avatar for Taylor's younger self, navigating through the vicissitudes of life and art. Produced with long-time collaborator Scott Hirsch and recorded at the legendary Sonic Ranch studio, the album showcases Taylor's live band and promises an evening of music that dances with spontaneous energy and emotional depth.

Supporting Durham Public Schools Foundation
In a gesture of community support, $1 from every ticket sold will be donated to the Durham Public Schools Foundation. This contribution underscores Taylor’s commitment to fostering educational success and equity for every student, aligning with the foundation's mission to invest in students, educators, and families.

An Evening of Joyful Music
The Fox Theatre performance is set to be an intimate showcase of Taylor's evolution as an artist and his dynamic journey through music. Attendees can anticipate a night filled with stories, melodies, and a shared sense of joy, reflective of Taylor's intent for "Jump for Joy" to be a celebration, even in what some might call the end times. "I want to go out dancing," Taylor remarks, encapsulating the spirit of the upcoming show.

The Fox Theatre in Boulder is set to host an electrifying evening of musical enchantment as Neal Francis brings his In Plain Sight Tour to town on Thursday, September 12, 2024.

Francis, the singer/songwriter/pianist extraordinaire, will be gracing the stage to unveil the rich tapestry of his latest album, "In Plain Sight." This new offering from Francis presents a body of work that is as hauntingly enchanted as it is painfully self-aware. Drawing inspiration from Greek myths, frenzied dreams, and late-night drives in the depths of summer delirium, Francis weaves together a kaleidoscopic sound that is endlessly absorbing.

In Plain Sight: The Journey Behind the Music

"In Plain Sight" is the second full-length album from Neal Francis, following the critically acclaimed debut "Changes." Recorded almost entirely at the now-defunct St. Peter’s UCC church in Chicago, where Francis found himself living during a tumultuous year, the album is a testament to profound upheaval and weary resilience.

Mixed by Grammy Award-winner Dave Fridmann and produced by analog obsessive Sergio Rios, "In Plain Sight" spotlights Francis’s refined yet free-spirited performance on piano—a talent nurtured since the age of four. From ragtime to gospel soul to The Who, Francis's influences are diverse and deep-rooted.

A Musical Journey of Redemption

"In Plain Sight" offers a lush and dreamlike quality, thanks to Francis’s restless experimentation with analog synths and the dedicated contributions of his bandmates. Each track on the album bears witness to Francis's introspection and growth, from the majestic opener "Alameda Apartments" to the guitar-heavy anthem "Can’t Stop the Rain."

With nods to Greek mythology in tracks like "Prometheus," Francis delves into themes of addiction, redemption, and transformation. The album's title itself reflects Francis's journey of acknowledging his struggles and striving for a better tomorrow.

A Night of Musical Brilliance at the Fox Theatre

Audiences at the Fox Theatre can expect an unforgettable evening as Neal Francis takes them on a sonic journey through the depths of his soul. With his mesmerizing piano work, soaring vocals, and captivating stage presence, Francis promises a performance that will resonate long after the final chord has faded.

Tickets for Neal Francis's In Plain Sight Tour at the Fox Theatre go on sale at 9:00 am on Friday, April 12th. Don't miss your chance to experience this extraordinary artist live in concert.
