The Lotus album Build, out February 19, 2013 on SCI Fidelity Records, propels through ten tracks with no wasted moments. Built on a foundation of beats evoking vinyl breaks, house, and big-beat, the album is a funky dance party from start to finish. The electronic infused 5-piece kicks things off with the release of the album’s first single, “Massif, now streaming on SoundCloud.

The unmistakable sound of a tight live band is at the heart of the album. Lotus has spent years rocking live crowds and that energy is distilled to a strong studio concentrate of body-moving beats and muscular melodies.

“This album was recorded live to analog tape in studios in Philadelphia and St. Louis,” explains Luke Miller. “We used live drums, guitar, bass, Hammond organ, upright piano, analog synths, live percussion, and live horns from the group Rubblebucket, then peppered in electronic elements. The project was mixed through an analog process to give it a deep richness.”

The group’s previous release, 2011’s self-titled album, had Filter stating, “A kiss to you post-rock electronic creations, you make me dance, smile, and meditate through the hours,” while Drum! proclaimed, “Lotus is so grab-your-nuts funky it’ll have your grandparents poppin’ and lockin’ at a flash mob. Drop it at an impromptu gathering and go from zero to hero the same night.”

A staple on the festival circuit in addition to capacity crowds at premier venues across the country, Lotus recently announced the first leg of the 2013 national tour in support of Build, the biggest outing the group has done to date (schedule below). The first part of the trek finds them hitting the Northeast including two New York City shows: Manhattan’s Best Buy Theater and Brooklyn’s Knitting Factory. From there, Lotus heads to the Midwest then it’s time to conquer the South including a two night run at Atlanta’s Terminal West. Before 2012 comes to an end, Lotus plays two nights at Chicago’s Riviera Theatre, Mr. Small’s in Millvale, PA and two nights in Baltimore to ring in the New Year.

Lotus is composed of Mike Greenfield (Drums), Jesse Miller (Bass, Sampler), Luke Miller (Guitar, Keys), Mike Rempel (Guitar) and Chuck Morris (Percussion).

Lotus releases its latest studio album, Build, today on SCI Fidelity Records. Built on a foundation of beats evoking vinyl breaks, house, and big-beat, the album is a funky dance party from start to finish.

Build, shows just how much the band has evolved,” states the Cleveland Scene. “The opening track, ‘Break Build Burn,’ for example, is a heady number that mixes and matches tape loops with funk riffs and jazzy fills.”

To celebrate the release of Build, Lotus premieres the official video for “Kodiak.” Shot by NoCoast.tv at the group’s headline debut at Colorado’s esteemed Red Rocks Amphitheatre on September 8, 2012, the video captures scenes backstage and in the venue packed with over 7,000 fans.

Lotus is currently touring the United States on its biggest outing ever. The band kicked things off in January throughout the Northeast and into the Midwest with multiple sell outs including New York City’s Best Buy Theater. Lotus is now performing throughout the South before heading west to Arizona and up the California coast playing at such venues a Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre and San Francisco’s The Fillmore. The Northwest then gets shows in Seattle and Portland before Lotus heads to Utah and throughout Colorado. The second leg of the tour ends with what is sure to be a spectacular three-night run at the Boulder Theater. Lotus has also joined the line up of the Electric Forest Festival in June alongside Pretty Lights, Passion Pit, Yeasayer, Grimes and more.

Lotus is composed of Mike Greenfield (Drums), Jesse Miller (Bass, Sampler), Luke Miller (Guitar, Keys), Mike Rempel (Guitar) and Chuck Morris (Percussion).

Lotus is offering a free download of  “Malabarista,” a b-side from the recently released album Build. The track is built around a six-bar guitar melody that evokes an expansive, bleak desert landscape.  The dual guitars release into a sub-bass workout with xylophone, synths and drums forming a dense percussive foundation.  Drawing influence from spaghetti western soundtracks and krautrock, “Malabarista”combines a variety of instruments and sounds to create a unique entry in the Lotus catalog.

The group is ready to head west this week after multiple sold out shows on the East Coast. As part of their biggest outing ever, upcoming shows include Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre, San Francisco’s The Fillmore and a three night run at the Boulder Theater. See below for a full list of dates.

Build is available now on SCI Fidelity Records via iTunes / Amazon / Bandcamp, and the vinyl edition, which includes a download card, is available at music retailers beginning today.

Lotus is composed of Mike Greenfield (Drums), Jesse Miller (Bass, Sampler), Luke Miller (Guitar, Keys), Mike Rempel (Guitar) and Chuck Morris (Percussion).

After nearly 10 years of composing and playing guitar and keyboards for the band Lotus, Luke Miller turns his experience and musical skills toward the DJ booth. The idea was to bring funk and disco back to the dance floor in an EDM world that sounds more and more digitized. In the Fall of 2012, Luke started working on remixing and re-editing tracks, and by the end of December, Luke the Knife was born.Performing both standard DJ sets and Live sets incorporating guitar and keys along with guest drummers, percussionists, and saxophonists, Luke the Knife started with a few packed shows in Colorado where he currently resides. For the first show outside the state, he sold out B.B. King's Lucille's Room in Times Square for a 2 1/2 hour dance party leaving people asking for more even at 4 in the morning. Now, he is hitting the road to open up for Chicago’s electronic rock stalwarts Future Rock on select dates including New York City, Philadelphia and Chicago.Harkening back to the days of editing tape with an exacto knife, Luke's cuts merge the old with the new utilizing modern production techniques to give a bigger punch to funky tracks of yore.He states, "Luke the Knife is all about making hips shake and putting smiles on faces. I'm excited to take the sound out on the road and show that disco isn't a dirty, cheesy word; it's the party you were missing. Strap on your dance shoes."Luke has released over twenty remixes/re-edits and eight continuous mixes that have been streamed/downloaded on SoundCloud. The response has been strong for releases and live shows with The Untz stating, “This is booty-shaking music,” and Live for Live Music proclaiming, “[Luke] blends a healthy mix of Funk, Disco and Dance for a mind-blowing performance.”Catch Luke the Knife on the road:April6 - Boulder, CO - Denver Disco Presents at The Lazy Dog [official Lotus after-party]12 - Avon, CO - Agave [w/ Chuck Morris (Lotus) on drums]18 - Brooklyn NY - Brooklyn Bowl * [w/ Mike Greenfield (Lotus) on drums]19 - Philadelphia, PA - Union Transfer * [w/ Mike Greenfield (Lotus) on drums]20 - Burlington, VT - Higher Ground *25 - Columbus, OH - Woodlands Tavern * [w/ Rob Chafin (The Werks) on drums]26 - Grand Rapids, MI - Intersection *27 - Chicago, IL - House of Blues ** w/ Future Rock

One of the defining and most popular acts in live electronic music, Lotus has never fit neatly in a simple categorization. The 5-piece continues to push boundaries with the September 10th release of Monks, a hip-hop album featuring Lyrics Born, Gift of Gab (Blackalicious), Mr. Lif, Doodlebug (Digable Planets) and more. Using the band’s own studio work as a sample source, the music will have a familiar feel to Lotus fans but recontextualized as classic hip-hop. Monks will be available digitally, for free via the band’s official website or on iTunes, and on vinyl (pre-order)."The project started with a couple tracks we recorded with Mr. Lif,” explains Luke Miller. “From there, we just kept expanding to eventually include 11 different MCs and singers. Lotus is predominantly an instrumental band, so it was a lot of fun to create these collaborations."Instrumental interlude tracks push into more experimental to create cinematic vignettes. Jesse Miller states, “For the interludes, we went toward funk and jazz influenced beat music.  Off-time drum beats, analog synthesizers, tape echo machines and even a baritone guitar were used to record these short evocative set pieces.”The tracks on the album are woven together with a narrative following a monk's journey. "Life as a touring artist feels monastic sometimes. Monks devote their entire lives to their spirituality. We devote much of ours to music and have to sacrifice certain things to make that happen," says Luke.Consistently on the road selling out venues across the country and joining major festivals, Lotus has multiple dates confirmed through the end of the year (schedule below). Highlights include a headline show at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre; North Coast Music Festival & Official After Party; and two night runs at the Georgia Theater in Athens, The Jefferson Theater in Charlottesville, VA and 9:30 Club in DC.The group’s previous release, Build, dropped in February 2013 and had Earmilk calling it “a lushly recorded masterpiece… very powerful and aggressive around the edges, articulated by excellent musicianship and surprisingly heavy beats.”Lotus is composed of Mike Greenfield (Drums), Jesse Miller (Bass, Sampler), Luke Miller (Guitar, Keys), Mike Rempel (Guitar) and Chuck Morris (Percussion).Monks Tracklisting1. The Soul Rebels, a New Orleans based brass band that's getting some love from in and outside of the Big Easy. They recently dropped the Power = Power mixtape which has them covering modern hits from the likes of Jay Z, Daft Punk, Kanye and more as well as remixes and live versions. Lotus announces the new album, Gilded Age, to be self released digitally and on vinyl on July 22nd. It includes six new, rock focused tracks and four down-tempo electronic remixes. Relix premieres the album video preview offering insights into the making of the album (view). On July 14th, those that pre-ordered the album will have access to an advance download of the track “Let Me In.”When Mark Twain coined the term the gilded age, he was describing the Reconstruction Era's thin veneer that masked substantial social struggle. Nostalgia is like The Gilded Age of memory. It's easy for the mind to increase the former glory, the perfect sheen, the once timelessness of present-day ruins.Luke Miller says, “On this album we wanted to occupy that powerful place of the human mind, the mental eye that can see erosion and cracks and envision a palace. We focused primarily on simple organic instruments: drum, bass, guitar, piano, percussion, played live in a room. The overall mood is one of reflective happiness, the joy of the impermanent, nostalgia of halcyon days.”The album was recorded with Jonathon Low (The National, Local Natives, The War on Drugs) in Philadelphia and includes guest vocalist Steve Yutzy-Burkey on three tracks. Once again, Lotus recorded live to analog tape with an emphasis on musical playing over studio tricks.“Lotus has long been known as a band with electronic and dance influences, but we also know the power and beauty of a stripped down rock song. On this album, we went for a sound that we hope inspires nostalgia, but also the joy of a hopeful future. I imagine standing at the edge of town, looking back, knowing I’m leaving something behind, but looking forward to the unknown adventure ahead,” says Jesse Miller.Remixes from four superb down-tempo electronic producers; KiloWatts, D.V.S*, Marley Carroll, and Skytree; take the mood into deeper realms, into a place where the brain starts reflecting on reflections and mixing together dreams and realities. Lotus return to Colorado for their annual Red Rocks Amphitheatre show on September 19th, and the band will perform the Talking Heads Deconstructed set that premiered this summer at the Gathering of the Vibes Festival. The special night explores the intersections between rock and dance, new and old, the unique music of Lotus and the classics from the Talking Heads. Gabriel Otto of Denver's Pan Astral will sing lead vocals as reinterpreted versions of Talking Heads songs mix with Lotus' original music.

Talking Heads have been a musical inspiration for Lotus from the earliest days of the band's formation. Both bands evolved in similar fashion, starting as a basic two-guitar rock band and subsequently expanding to include synthesizers, percussion and a host of musical influences. At the heart of Talking Heads' music are great grooves - many of which point toward the basic beats found in dance styles that are popular today.

Otto and special guests including Jason Hann of The String Cheese Incident joined Lotus at the debut performance. The set (and recording) created so much buzz the band decided to bring the idea to Red Rocks. As UpstateLIVE explained,  “Lotus delighted the evening crowd with a stunning technical proficiency and truly unique take on another immensely influential American band. Driving guitar riffs and spacey synth effects served as a foundation for the music that expertly mixed the percussive heavy jam style of Talking Heads with the electronica aspects of Lotus – a match made in music festival heaven.”

Lotus released the new album, Gilded Age, digitally and on vinyl on July 22nd. It includes six new, rock focused tracks and four down-tempo electronic remixes.  The album was recorded with Jonathon Low (The National, Local Natives, The War on Drugs) in Philadelphia and includes guest vocalist Steve Yutzy-Burkey on three tracks. Once again, Lotus recorded live to analog tape with an emphasis on musical playing over studio tricks.

Remixes from four superb down-tempo electronic producers; KiloWatts, D.V.S*, Marley Carroll, and Skytree; take the mood into deeper realms, into a place where the brain starts reflecting on reflections and mixing together dreams and realities.

Lotus announces 2015’s The Gilded Age Tour kicking off January 22nd in State College, PA and continuing from coast to coast through early March. Highlights include two night runs in Syracuse and Burlington & shows at New York City’s Terminal 5, Los Angeles’ House of Blues, and Atlanta’s The Tabernacle. While 2014 included select appearances, this new run is Lotus’ most extensive tour in over a year. For all dates, Lotus is offering an exclusive pre-sale through its official fan club with tickets priced at $19.50.

“We ended the summer with a bang playing some huge festival sets and a career highlight show at Red Rocks. Having the fall off from touring has given us time to focus on writing and recording, but now we are ready to take the show back on the road,” states Jesse Miller. “It has been almost 2 years since we did a full US tour. There are many challenges when playing 5-6 shows a week, but it can also create the conditions necessary for musical development and exploration. I'm excited to hit the road and see what emerges from the crucible that is tour life.”

The tour supports the most recent album, Gilded Age, which features six rock focused tracks and four down-tempo electronic remixes. EDM Sauce proclaimed upon release, “Lotus continues to gain popularity in the dance music world by ignoring genre limitations. These guys pioneered the idea of thinking outside the box… They found a spark of ingenuity and took live electronica to the next level.”

2014 isn’t over yet and marks a major milestone for Lotus, the 10th anniversary of the debut studio album, Nomad. To celebrate, the band is releasing a remastered version with Harmonized Records on December 16th. It will be available both digitally and on vinyl with updated artwork. A deluxe digital edition will also be released that includes a live recording of the sold-out, June 8, 2014 performance of the album in full at Mr. Smalls in Pittsburgh, the dual concert venue/studio the album was recorded in a decade ago.

“With the release of Gilded Age, the reissue of our first album Nomad and a new album in the works, I think this tour will be a celebration of our past while also pushing forward into new musical territory,” says Jesse.

Lotus is composed of Mike Greenfield (Drums), Jesse Miller (Bass, Sampler), Luke Miller (Guitar, Keys), Mike Rempel (Guitar) and Chuck Morris (Percussion).

The cult funk ensemble Brooklyn Funk Essentials has released its fifth studio album, Funk Ain’t Ova, worldwide today. It coincides with the 20th anniversary of the celebrated debut album, Cool & Steady & Easy, and offers a collection of eclectic songs using BFE’s signature melange of funk, disco, jazz, ska, latin and house flavors. The album sees BFE go back to their roots, bringing together many of the original members and reuniting with original label Dorado Records, who first signed the band back in 1994.

Iconic producer Arthur Baker and bassist/musical director Lati Kronlund founded Brooklyn Funk Essentials in 1993. Band members came from New York’s buzzing hip hop-jazz and slam poetry scenes and soon formed into a 12-piece live outfit, rotating some of the city’s finest young musicians, DJs, poets, rappers and singers.

Lead single “Blast It!” is an all-star funk jam featuring the soulful voices of Stephanie McKay, Desmond Foster and Papa Dee along with Everton Sylvester’s dub poetry. Other standout album tracks include the deeply funky “I’m Gonna Find Me A Woman,” a re-working of an unreleased track written in the nineties with the late, great Isaac Hayes. The disco jam “Dance Or Die” sees the return of Joi Cardwell on lead vocals, who also appears on “Gabriel,” a ska/boogaloo re-imagining of the Roy Davis Jr. and Peven Everett seminal club hit. Stephanie McKay sings lead on the anthemic “Prepare,” which was co-written by legendary house diva Crystal Waters who also provides background vocals, and “Unique,” co-written by Carlton McCarthy, which features the vibraphones of Bill Ware, who returns for the first time since Cool & Steady & Easy.

The horn section, led by Iwan VanHetten (trumpet and keys) and Anna Brooks (saxes) also includes cameos from founding members Josh Roseman (trombone), Bob Brockmann (trumpet), and Paul Shapiro (sax and flute). Hux Nettermalm and Yancy Drew play drums with Danny Sadownick on percussion and Desmond Foster and Masa Shimizu on guitars.

Lotus announces the July 15th release date of the new studio album, Eat the Light. It’s a first for Lotus, an album with vocals on every song. Guest singers appear throughout ranging from soulful to indie, male and female, electronic and rock. The tracks bubble with contagious dance energy and blast into orbit with sing-along choruses. Tightly produced yet raw grooves recall sounds of The Talking Heads, Jamiroquai, and LCD Soundsystem. Lotus will take the album on the road with a 2016-2017 US tour to be announced shortly.

The Magic Hour, just after sunrise and just before sunset, is loved by cinematographers for the way it makes everything look heightened and surreal. Colors are brighter; shadows are darker. It is a moment when the impossible feels within reach. Eat the Light lives in this moment. Themes of sunlight, summer, cinema, and possibility permeate the album.

“I wanted Eat the Light to be a celebratory album that people could sing along to while driving down the California coast,” says Luke Miller. “This is the sound of summer that makes you want to dance and raise your hands to the sky.”

Jesse Miller explains, “It is a pop record in the sense that the arrangements are purposely simplified and the melodies are catchy. We want people to be humming these songs days after hearing them. The album doesn't need an accompanying catalytic life story to be explained, just put it on the stereo and enjoy.”

Lotus premiered the first single, “Eats the Light,” earlier this year with Billboard noting “the track's urgent drive and stripped-down arrangement, a nod to Talking Heads' Remain In Light era.” Denver based singer/songwriter/producer Gabe Otto (Pan Astral), who performed the David Byrne role in Lotus’ Talking Heads Deconstructed shows, takes the vocals duties. It was only a taste of what’s to come…

“Move Too Fast” is an evocative and playful track with a skittering drum beat and insistent, syncopated bass line. It evokes the feeling of weightlessness while having a head-nodding beat and vocals by Johnny Fissinger (Philadelphia’s Damn Right!).

“Anti-Gravity” features LA-based singer Oriel Poole whose seductive vocals draw influence from Erykah Badu and MØ. The song has a laid-back vibe with subtle, funky guitar licks and rich synths accompanying a catchy chorus. The lyrics explore the delirious, floating feeling evoked when summer love is in the air.

Combining electronic elements with a rock band swagger, “I've Been a Fool (Toy Guns)” features layers of sound that build to an explosion of rock glory. Jesse Miller takes the vocal lead offering a raw, unpolished touch while Gabe Otto sings backup. The same pairing can be heard on “Sleep When We Are Dead,” a song that hits right from the start with a raw, garage-band groove developing into a group-vocal chorus reminiscent of a late-70s anthemic sing-along mixed with 2000s dance-rock.

“White Light Fadeaway" features Steve Yutzy-Burkey's high tenor over a twisted island lilt. Synths and heavy percussion dance around the laid-back yet slightly dark groove. The Philadelphia-based singer-songwriter is a long time collaborator of Lotus, teaming up on past songs “Tip of the Tongue,” “Disappear in a Blood-Red Sky,” and “The Surf.”

Philadelphia-based Soul singer-songwriter Mutlu Onaral, known for his work with Hall & Oates and Amos Lee, handles vocals on two tracks. The album opener, “Fearless,” is a song about the indestructible feeling that propels you to try something new and scary. It draws from disco influences with funky guitar rhythms, steady percussion, and 70s-esque strings. Mutlu's voice also rides over this twilight-hued tune “When Our Nerves No Longer Twitch.” Elements of glitch electronics combine with Wurlitzer and guitar for a unique, yet hook-heavy song that twists and turns through its narrative arc.

“Suntan” features the timeless, gorgeous vocals of Denver-based singer Rachel Eisenstat (Raven Jane). A tropical, sun-drenched vibe is accented with reverb-soaked guitar, marimba, and percussion.

The album comes to a conclusion with “Sodium Vapor” featuring Austin based singer-songwriter Andy Bianculli (Star Parks, Feofollet). Americana-Pysch-Rock filtered through the Lotus lens - acoustic guitar, upright piano, synths, fuzz-guitar leads create an evocative song in the vein of left-field Wilco or the Flaming Lips.

Whether the Magic Hour is the start of a fresh new day or the end of a long party-filled night, take a moment and Eat the Light.

Lotus is composed of Mike Greenfield (Drums), Jesse Miller (Bass, Sampler), Luke Miller (Guitar, Keys), Mike Rempel (Guitar) and Chuck Morris (Percussion).

Lotus has released the second single from the forthcoming album, Eat the Light, out July 15th. "Move Too Fast" features vocals by Damn Right! bassist/singer Johnny Fissinger

As WXPN's The Key states, "The song is pop-oriented and funky, driven by syncopated synths and an infectious hook buoyed by Fissinger’s atmospheric vocals. Lotus point to LCD Soundsystem as an inspiration for the record, and the influence of James Murphy’s songwriting certainly comes through on 'Move Too Fast.'"

The band has announced a listening event at Philly's Johnny Brenda's on Monday, July 11th at 9pm. Details are here.

On release day in New York City, Jesse and Luke Miller will DJ at Samsung 837 for the official album release party from 7-9pm. RSVP and details are here.

Lotus releases Eat the Light Remixes today featuring new takes on album cuts by TWOGOOD, Oliver Nelson & Tobtok, Roisto, Luke the Knife, Fare Soldi, and Hakibros.

Swedish DJs Oliver Nelson & Tobtok get the party started with their disco infused version of “Anti-Gravity” featuring Oriel Poole. TWOGOOD, UK based DJs/producers Tom Mitchell and Jonny Rhodes, brings fat analog synth riffs and glitched out rhythms to “Fearless.” Finnish funk and disco pro Roisto takes on “White Lite Fadeaway” while Lotus’ own Luke Miller, under his DJ moniker Luke the Knife, reinterprets “When Our Nerves No Longer Twitch.” “Fearless” once again gets the remix treatment from Italian producers Fare Soldi, and Hakibros rounds out the set with his version of “Anti-Gravity” which won the Indaba remix contest.

Lotus ends the year with a New Year’s Eve run in Pennsylvania featuring a night at Philly’s Electric Factory and two-nights at Stage AE in Pittsburgh. 2017 picks back up with several dates into March including two-night appearances in DC, Atlanta, Asheville, Tucson, San Francisco, Aspen and Grand Rapids. Full list of dates below.

Octave Cat started unintentionally. Jesse Miller (bassist for Lotus) and Eli Winderman (keyboardist for Dopapod) met up to play some of Jesse's modular and vintage synthesizers. They recorded parts of the session which evolved into the tracks “Limber Up” and “Spar.” They brought in Charlie Patierno to play drums on these two tracks, and Octave Cat was born. Between their already busy tour schedules, the new trio (named for the first synth that initial session started with – the rare late 70s The Cat by Octave) continued to write and record.

The group releases its self-titled debut album today and performs a run of shows in Philadelphia, New York City and Baltimore next weekend.

Recorded at Miner Street Studio, Rittenhouse Soundworks and at Jesse and Charlie's home studios, Octave Cat's self-titled album draws on late 70s funk-jazz fusion as well as synth music. Think Herbie Hancock, Aphex Twin, & Radiohead as a jazz trio armed with vintage keyboards and synthesizers.

Lotus announces their annual Red Rocks show taking place Saturday, September 16th. The band will be joined by openers Com Truise & Nosaj Thing. The night before, Friday, September 15th, it is an evening with Lotus as they play two sets at the Boulder Theater.

Lotus fan club members will have the opportunity to purchase special two-show tickets beginning Thursday, March 23rd at 10:00am MDT. The public on sale is Saturday, March 25th at 10:00am MDT.

The band is touring in support of their new album, Eat the Light. It is a first for Lotus - an album with vocals on every song. Guest singers appear throughout ranging from soulful to indie and electronic to rock. The tracks bubble with contagious dance energy and blast into orbit with sing-along choruses. The tightly produced yet raw grooves recall sounds of The Talking Heads, Jamiroquai, and LCD Soundsystem.

Lotus is composed of Mike Greenfield (Drums), Jesse Miller (Bass, Sampler), Luke Miller (Guitar, Keys), Mike Rempel (Guitar) and Chuck Morris (Percussion).

Lotus just wrapped up a lengthy tour that took the band to sold-out theaters across the country. Now, they have released a 14-track collection of recordings from the tour titled 86 Revolutions which features songs from their most recent album, Eat the Light, as well music written in the earliest days of the band.

The album title refers to the number of days between the first and last show of the tour. Selected tracks include the second song from the first show of the tour as well as the closing song of the final show, “Umbilical Moonrise,” the first song the band ever wrote and a fan-favorite rarity.

Jesse Miller (bassist) selected the tracks and mixed the album. “We had a new soundboard for this tour, and the multi-track sources sounded great,” he says. “We release all of our shows, but this was an opportunity for me to spend extra time mixing to expose all the layers that build the Lotus sound.”

The collection features several tracks not released on any studio albums including “Expired Slang” and “The Opus” as well as covers of Lindstrøm's “Rà-àkõ-st” and the Talking Head's “Moon Rocks.” There is a healthy dose of the group improvisation Lotus is known for.

“After all these years playing improvised music with Lotus there are still moments that surprise me - completely unplanned turns in the music that all five of us make simultaneously,” said Miller.

Lotus is composed of Mike Greenfield (Drums), Jesse Miller (Bass, Sampler), Luke Miller (Guitar, Keys), Mike Rempel (Guitar) and Chuck Morris (Percussion).

Fusing the sounds of Soul, Reggae, and Hip-Hop, White Tiger Society bursts onto the music scene with a rotating cast of talent led by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Dajla “The White Tigress” and Grammy Award-winning engineer/producer Comissioner Gordon Williams. It’s a movement with a shared interest in classic songwriting, live instrumentation, and solid production made evident on the official debut single “Why” featuring Stephen Marley. The track is from the forthcoming debut album, Sound of the White Tiger, to be released on September 15th via Lalabela Music Group.

"White Tiger Society is a union of reggae, heart-felt soulful vocals and feel-good production,” says Dajla. “We bring these various flavors together with a positive message to create our sound. The Sound of the White Tiger.”

Williams adds, “Stephen and I have a long relationship in music, going back to the days of The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill, all the way up to Welcome To Jamrock, on which we worked together, as well as his latest album, The Fruit Of Life. Stephen actually picked ‘Why’ to collaborate with us on, and we are thankful to have ‘Ragga’ as part of the White Tiger family!”

Born in France of a Tunisian dad and a French-American mother, Dajla began playing music at the age of 7 inspired by her parents' Soul, Jazz, Reggae, and Blues record collection. Armed with keys, bass, and vocals, she has made her way through the music scenes in France and the UK while seeking inspiration in central Africa. Dajla has released two albums and an EP to date.  She has shared the stage with the likes of Angelo Moore from Fishbone, Nneka, De La Soul, Sa-Ra, & The Brand New Heavies and currently resides in New York City.

Comissioner Gordon Williams’ impact on popular music is undeniable. Dubbed the "Comissioner" (yes, just one “m”) by rapper KRS-One, he experienced the creation of Hip-Hop up close in the Bronx and began DJing & producing. Throughout his career, he has won multiple Grammy Awards including Album of the Year wins for The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill and Santana’s Supernatural. Additional credits include Joss Stone's multi-platinum Mind Body & Soul, Damian Marley’s Grammy-award winning Welcome to Jamrock, and Amy Winehouse’s debut album Frank.

In 2013, Gordon and Dajla met in New York City and through their work, initially as a writing/production team, the White Tiger Society was born.

Lotus will release its first full concert film, Live at Red Rocks September 19, 2014, on Monday, September 4th (available at midnight EDT, Sunday night). The concert features a set called Talking Heads Deconstructed with guest Gabe Otto singing Talking Heads songs done in Lotus' signature style.

“The origins of this show start earlier in 2014 when we were approached by a festival to put together a special set. After a few different ideas, we landed on the Talking Heads Deconstructed idea; mixing in our styles and melodies,” states Jesse Miller. “I was little bit wary of the idea initially because the Talking Heads are covered by so many bands in our scene. But, when it all came together, I thought we were able to give these covers a unique spin that really made these songs feel like our own.”

While most Lotus shows include sampled vocals when necessary, the Talking Heads set features Gabe Otto of Denver’s Pan Astral taking on the role of the group’s frontman, David Byrne. “Gabe brought an energy to the stage that took the performance to an even higher level,” says Miller.

The Talking Heads' music has been a touchstone for Lotus since the beginning. Their early minimalist-CBGB rock style was steeped in groove, and as they added synths, more percussion and African-inspired rhythms, that core groove held strong even as the musical orbit expanded. The same concept holds true for Lotus after being a band for 17 plus years.

Miller says, “I did not envision a three-year long process getting the licensing to use the Talking Heads’ songs on the video, but I am glad our team finally pulled it off and we can share this show.”

Members of Lotus grew up just miles away from Red Rocks Amphitheatre with some even having their high school graduation there. When the band headlined the iconic venue for the first time in 2012, it was the realization of a longtime dream. They become more comfortable as they returned to Red Rocks and quickly made the venue their own.

“For the 2014 production, we used a lighting design that involved draping hundreds of LED bars around the stage. The position of all the bars were mapped into a software program that allowed 3D patterns used. It took so long to set up, but result was unlike any other stage I've seen,” Miller recalls.

Lotus is composed of Mike Greenfield (Drums), Jesse Miller (Bass, Sampler), Luke Miller (Guitar, Keys), Mike Rempel (Guitar) and Chuck Morris (Percussion).
