Fresh off the sacred stage of the Ryman Auditorium where they kicked off a stirring tribute to the late Earl Scruggs with actor Steve Martin, the Sleepy Man Banjo Boys are pleased to announce the release of their new album, The Farthest Horizon.  The album debuted at #3 on Billboard’s Top Bluegrass Album Chart last week and is now available at iTunes, Amazon, SleepyManBanjoBoys.com and more outlets.

The Sleepy Man Banjo Boys, a bluegrass trio of brothers, became an overnight sensation in 2011 after practice recordings for their grandparents went viral on YouTube.  These videos have now collectively topped over 12 million YouTube views.  Tommy (Guitar), age 15, Robbie (Fiddle), age 13 and Jonny (Banjo) age 10, were encouraged by their parents to learn an instrument and first discovered their love for Bluegrass music by watching Earl Scruggs pick his five string on YouTube. Since then, the Sleepy Man Banjo Boys have developed a style and sound that is uniquely their own and as a result of their viral, virtually overnight success, their talent has been showcased on national television shows, including CBS’s The Late Night with David Letterman Show, NBC’s The Today Show and Fox’s Huckabee.

The Farthest Horizon is poised to follow the success of their debut album America’s Music, with 11 fresh tracks, seven of which were penned by the boys themselves. Two of the songs on the new album also feature the beautiful and authentic voice of 13-year-old Ashley Lily, granddaughter of the late bluegrass legend Everett Lily. In support of the album, the Sleepy Man Banjo Boys will be traveling coast to coast visiting with the media, radio broadcasters and fans. Their next performance will be on the grand stage of Carnegie Hall for a special performance for Kate Winslet’s Golden Hat Foundation benefiting autism research.

Radio stations worldwide have welcomed The Farthest Horizon sending it to #4 this month on AirplayDirect’s Global Radio Indicator Top 50 APD Bluegrass/Folk Albums Chart. The Farthest Horizon is a six panel digipak and includes descriptions of the songs and some fun behind-the-scenes album facts.  For more information, song titles and to sample tracks from the new album, visit Sleepymanbanjoboys.com

Nu-Blu has embraced the Gospel tradition of bluegrass with their first all-gospel album, Nail by Nail, now available on Pinecastle Records. This special new project includes the recently released first single, “Martha and Mary” that was written by Becky Buller and Nancy Cardwell. The song debuted earlier this month at #8 on the Bluegrass Today Weekly Top 20. The album was recorded and produced by Nu-Blu at Red Squared Audio, located in Siler City, NC.Recently, Nu-Blu joined Dennis Jones for a special Track by Track episode that aired on WNCW Radio’s Goin’ Across The Mountain show.  The full album is available now to all radio stations at AirplayDirect.com along with their other music including albums THE BLU-DISC, NIGHTS and their previously released holiday single “Christmas in Dixie.”Not only is radio welcoming NAIL BY NAIL, but critics agree is it an exceptional album saying:“These kids play it straight and are more about sending positive lyric messages than amping up the hellfire that awaits. And they sing and play like angels that walk among us. This is a lovely, four star/thumbs up record... The religious/spiritual market wouldn't be so marginalized if there was more music like this. Well done.”  Midwest Record Recap“For fans of bluegrass and country, looking for some uplifting (and edifying) lyrics, Nail By Nail should certainly be a proper selection.  The lyrical content of the aforementioned songs, along with the rest of the album, are an inspiring and pointed reminder of the grace of God exposed in the life of His son Jesus.” Alpha Omega News“Nu-Blu is a band that delivers good bluegrass.”  Keith Lawrence, Bluegrass Notes“I am so thankful that God opened this door. Nu-Blu is a wonderful group with some wonderful songs in Nail by Nail. I hope you will check out this CD when it comes out publicly. I can see Hammer being sung in churches during the offering or as a special song.” Family Friendly GamingNu-Blu includes the talents of Daniel Routh, Carolyn, Routh, Levi Austin and Austin Koerner who have been extremely busy on the road this year performing over 70 dates at festivals and concerts throughout the USA and Canada.  The band recently sat down with John Lawless during the IBMA World of Bluegrass convention and talked about the album.

The Michigan based bluegrass band DETOUR is donating proceeds from the sales of its song "Homeless Of The Brave" to Goodwill’s Patriot Place project. Patriot Place is a transitional housing community for Northern Michigan’s homeless veterans. DETOUR recently presented Goodwill with a check for $1,000 which is the first of what they hope will be many installments.

The song, which is included on their newest release A BETTER PLACE, was written by band member Jeff Rose as a direct response to a story that he heard on the radio about the plight of homeless veterans.  Rose was "stunned to learn that there are approximately 70,000 homeless veterans in this country and over 600 in northern Michigan alone".

The song is a story about American veterans who return home, only to find they cannot get jobs, or in some cases, even find places to live and sleep.  The chorus of the song sums up the hopefulness that Detour has for this project:

It's time we stand up and say,
there'll be hell to pay, if another soldier dies upon these streets,
In the richest land on earth, please tell me what it's worth,
if we let them go down in defeat, oh there has to be a way that we can save,
those living in the land of the free and the homeless of "The Brave."

Rose wrote most of the song and finished it on the way to a Veteran's Day performance in Manistee.  Rose performed the song with Missy Armstrong, DETOUR''s lead singer that evening to an enthusiastic, lengthy standing ovation.  Based on that response and the ongoing feedback that Detour has received around the song they decided to seek a partnership with Goodwill to do whatever they can to assist homeless veterans.   Rose noted that "I find it totally unfathomable that this situation exists in America, with all of the abundance that we enjoy".

Michigan "bluegrass powerhouse" DETOUR has two songs from their current album, A BETTER PLACE, in the top ten  on the national bluegrass charts and is targeting airplay for the "Homeless Of The Brave" across the country with the goal of helping to raise even more awareness and funds.  A BETTER PLACE is available online at Elderly.com, Countysales.com and CDBaby.com. Downloads of the song may be purchased through iTunes, Amazon and other online retail outlets.

The needs of homeless veterans are significant.  Frequently, veterans have experienced horrific scenarios in war zones, resulting in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). These challenges often lead to substance abuse issues.  Sometime the skills learned while in active duty do not necessarily easily translate into the civilian workforce.  However, these men have learned many other very employable leadership skills – they just need our help. Each of these factors can contribute to homelessness, and studies have shown that veterans overcome such obstacles in an environment of their peers.

Goodwill’s Patriot Place helps homeless veterans:
- cope with mental disabilities such as PTSD
- overcome substance abuse issues
- secure income through employment or VA and/or Social Security/Disability benefits
- find permanent housing.

Red River Entertainment is proud to announce the new bluegrass radio single release, “Shake It Off” by Michael Martin Murphey from the upcoming July 9 album Red River Drifter. The duet was written by Murphey who is joined by Pauline Reese on vocals. Musicians on the track include: Ryan Murphey, Pat Flynn, Jason Mowry, Troy Engle, and Matt Pierson. In recent years Murphey has been exploring the similarities between bluegrass and American cowboy music. But for Red River Drifter, he brought in some very eclectic and unexpected elements to the writing process. “I wrote songs that drew from what is inspiring me at this point in my life,” he says. “Every style was fair game. We intentionally did not follow formulas or rules.”“I'm just the right age to have had Michael Martin Murphy a part of my musical life since 1973. Wildfire was a hit during my senior year of high school and I was captivated by the banjo on the track. Finding him fully involved in bluegrass these days is a real treat,” said John Lawless of Bluegrass Today. “Michael's new single, Shake It Off, shows the blues influence that has always been integral to the bluegrass sound, something that Bill Monroe insisted on from the very start. The sound may be more polished, but it traces right back to the well.”Murphey has received multiple Grammy nominations during his incredible career including one for Best Bluegrass Album for his Buckaroo Blue Grass album in 2009. He has also earned six gold albums and performs more than 150 shows per year. As a songwriter, his work has been covered by John Denver, Lyle Lovett, Johnny Lee, Kenny Rogers, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, and a host of other recording artists. In 1972, Rolling Stone Magazine called Murphey “one of the best songwriters in America.” Since that time, he has left an indelible mark on the American Music Landscape, crafting and recording such iconic hits as “Wildfire,” “Carolina In The Pines”, “Geronimo’s Cadillac”, “Cowboy Logic,” “Cherokee Fiddle”, “Boy From The Country” and more.  In the process, he has topped the Pop, Country, Bluegrass and Western Music charts, earned six gold albums and multiple Grammy nominations. For more information on Michael Martin Murphey and the new album, Red River Drifter, please visit michaelmartinmurphey.com.

DETOUR bluegrass band announced last year they would be donating proceeds from the sales of their song "Homeless Of The Brave" to Goodwill’s Patriot Place project. Patriot Place is a transitional housing community for Northern Michigan’s homeless veterans. Last week, songwriter and band member, Jeff Rose presented another $1,000 check to Lilly Nowicki, Event and Database Coordinator with Goodwill.Ruth Blick, the Director of Marketing and Communications with Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan said, “Thank you, to you and the band for your continued commitment to Patriot Place and our veterans experiencing homelessness across the country. You will never truly know the impact that the song and support has on so many lives.”The song, “Homeless of the Brave” appears on DETOUR’S current album, "A BETTER PLACE." Jeff Rose wrote the song after hearing on the radio about the plight of homeless veterans. “I am still absolutely stunned there are approximately 70,000 homeless veterans in this country and over 600 in northern Michigan alone." The song is a story about American veterans who return home, only to find they cannot get jobs, or in some cases, even find places to live and sleep. It's time we stand up and say, there'll be hell to pay, if another soldier dies upon these streets,In the richest land on earth, please tell me what it's worth,if we let them go down in defeat, oh there has to be a way that we can save, those living in the land of the free and the homeless of "The Brave."To learn more about Patriot Place and the song “Homeless of the Brave,” please visit goodwillnmi.org/vets.  Radio stations can download Public Service Announcements and Detour’s music at airplaydirect.com/music/detour.DETOUR includes the talents of Melissa Armstrong (Lead & Harmony Vocals, Guitar); Jeff Rose (Lead & Harmony Vocals, Mandolin); Peter Knupfer (Fiddle ); Scott Zylstra (Lead & Harmony Vocals, Guitar); Jack Grant (Harmony & Lead Vocals; Bass); and Kevin Gaugier (Lead & Harmony Vocals, Banjo). The Huck Finn Jubilee Bluegrass  Music Festival, produced by the Greater Ontario Convention & Visitors Bureau, is committed to keeping traditional Bluegrass alive by passing it on to youth.  “This year we are proud to announce the partnership with the Folk Music Center in Claremont, California to provide the Music Education for Kids program during the 3-day event in June” said Michael Krouse, President and CEO.  “We are dedicated to connecting kids with bluegrass music and look forward to the progression that two days of music lessons can make.”

The Huck Finn Jubilee Bluegrass Music Education for Kids is a free 2-day camp-style learning program held annually during Huck Finn Jubilee Bluegrass Music Festival at Cucamonga – Guasti Regional Park in Ontario, California.  The program is open to children ages 8 – 16 offering instruction to play, sing and perform Bluegrass music. Each day contains sectional instruction with their instrumental teacher; and ensemble sessions with the entire group. The grand finale is a “Jubilee Jam” on Sunday afternoon.  Kids will have fun, learn a lot, grow in confidence and make friends that can last a lifetime.

The talented and experienced instructors are local and part of the music education programs at the Folk Music Center in Claremont, California.  Over 185 years of combined experience is amazing.

Volume Five made its debut this week at #5 on Billboard’s Top 10 Bluegrass Album Chart with their impressive new project Drifter.  The album is receiving rave reviews including Parcbench Magazine saying it “raises the bar on their already impressive reputation.

The first single release, “I Am A Drifter” written by Donna Ulisse and Marc Ross, continues to garner radio chart success.  It is the current #1 song on the Bluegrass Today Top 20, #7 on the Sirius XM Bluegrass Junction’s Most Played Tracks for June, and debuted this month on Power Source Magazine’s Top 35 Songs Chart.  Drifter is also crossing over to other radio formats; the track, “When I Go Away,” is today’s POWERPLAY song on Eagle Country Radio. Drifter is available to radio stations worldwide at AirPlayDirect.com.

“Volume Five can please a fan who just wants to hear a bluegrass beat with a pleasant melody, but the rhythmic interplay between the instruments can enthrall a more sophisticated listener after multiple hearings. It’s a special skill, and may ultimately be the one thing that eventually allows this talented quintet to rise to the top, a la Blue Highway,”said Bluegrass Today in a recent album review.

This impressive group is led by Glen Harrell (fiddle & vocals) who is joined by Harry Clark (mandolin & vocals), Chris Williamson (bass & vocals), Patton Wages (banjo & vocals), and Colby Laney (guitar & vocals).

Drifter is available at numerous digital outlets, VolumeFiveBG.com, mountainfever.com and more fine retail outlets.
