Last Friday night, I got together with Mike, Page and Fish to talk openly about the strong feelings I've been having that Phish has run its course and that we should end it now while it's still on a high note. Once we started talking, it quickly became apparent that the other guys' feelings, while not all the same as mine, were similar in many ways - most importantly, that we all love and respect Phish and the Phish audience far too much to stand by and allow it to drag on beyond the point of vibrancy and health. We don't want to become caricatures of ourselves, or worse yet, a nostalgia act. By the end of the meeting, we realized that after almost twenty-one years together we were faced with the opportunity to graciously step away in unison, as a group, united in our friendship and our feelings of gratitude.

So Coventry will be the final Phish show. We are proud and thrilled that it will be in our home state of Vermont. We're also excited for the June and August shows, our last tour together. For the sake of clarity, I should say that this is not like the hiatus, which was our last attempt to revitalize ourselves. We're done. It's been an amazing and incredible journey. We thank you all for the love and support that you've shown us.

- Trey Anastasio

Sat, 06/12/2004 - 6:00 am

As we wind down the Phish career, it is done with both great joy and great sadness. The joy comes from remembering the incredibly good times we've experienced, the successes we've enjoyed, and knowing that even in our closing we are honoring the band. The sadness is obviously driven by the fact that something I love will not be a part of my life anymore. To me, we have been the greatest band in the world and have had the greatest fans ever.

I still love the music we make but the situation feels different to me now. I guess in my heart I've known for a while that something had to change, but it wasn't until this last weekend that my feelings really began to coalesce. I'm old enough now that I am able to look to the future without feeling that I need to balance it with my past. I find it ironic that half of my life has to go by before I am able to focus solely on the future. As a member of a successful rock band, it seems that every aspect of my profession encourages me to extend my youth as long as possible. Don't get me wrong, I like feeling young, but more importantly I need to be honest with myself.

The pressures and schedule of this work can take its toll personally as well as creatively. As someone who has recently been through a divorce, I know how traumatic change can be. But, I also know that if you are able to let go of things and embrace change there is the potential for incredible personal (and creative) growth.

If I sound unusually candid in this statement, I am able to do so because in my mind I've already moved on to the next phase of my life. This is a feeling I believe I share with Trey. I have a four-year-old daughter and there is nothing more important to me than being with her. Come August, I'm not going to have to tell her how many days 'til daddy comes back from tour. Combine that with my perception that the band's vitality is not what it once was, and it's easy to see how my mind quickly begins to move in one direction instead of a hundred directions all at the same time.

I will miss it incredibly, but I have no regrets. The pride that I feel for the band, our fans, the organization and all of our collective accomplishments is overwhelming. I love you all and know that we wouldn't be here without you.

Sincerely,
Page McConnell

On July 22, 1997,  Phish performed the second show of their U.S. summer tour at Walnut Creek Amphitheatre in Raleigh, NC through a torrent of rain, thunder and lightning.  Rather than cancel the gig, the band played on with the music mirroring the peaks in the storm's intensity.  Phish's own JEMP Records is excited to offer the complete Walnut Creek show on DVD, in stores everywhere August 5. "Walnut Creek" features more than 2 hours of 5-camera footage in 5.1 Dolby Surround or optional stereo sound on two DVDs.

Phish and JEMP Records will release the complete three nights of music from the Roxy Theatre—six sets featuring 78 unique songs with two special guests and only one repeat spread over eight CDs—as "Phish: At The Roxy", available in stores everywhere on November 18.

The second concert of the run is one the most-collected live Phish bootlegs; however, this will be the first time they will be heard in true high fidelity. The recordings are drawn from soundman/luthier Paul Languedoc's two-track soundboard reference DATs and mastered by regular Phish collaborator, Fred Kevorkian. One of the many highlights of At The Roxy is the second set of that show, which is highly celebrated for its extended suite of "Tweezer," the James Gang's "Walk Away," "Mike's Song," the reggae song "Have Mercy," Kiss's "Rock and Roll All Nite" among other songs and improvisations. Several special guests join Phish onstage, including Jimmy Herring (Widespread Panic, the Allman Brothers Band, Aquarium Rescue Unit) during the second set of the first night and banjo player Jeff Mosier (Blueground Undergrass, Aquarium Rescue Unit, Leftover Salmon) for a bluegrass encore during the third show. This is Phish at their peak in terms of playful, anything-goes musical precociousness. This is the first complete multiple-show release since Hampton Comes Alive and the Island Tour of 1998.

Pre-order the box set here. And pre-order the digital set here.

All four Page McConnell shows from this Fall's mini-tour are now available for purchase in digital (FLAC and MP3) and CD formats at livephish.com

September 24 Revolution Hall Troy, NY
September 25 Lupo's Providence, RI
September 26 BB Kings New York, NY
September 27 Higher Ground Burlington, VT

On November 2, 2007 during gig at Burlington, Vermont's Club Metronome, Page McConnell joined PBS (George Porter Jr., Russell Batiste Jr., and Brian Stoltz) on stage for part of their scheduled performance.  The energy that Page brought to the Trio that night created an immediate buzz among local live music fans and the show took on an instant legendary status.

Fueled by the positive chatter and the chance to collaborate with three incredible improvisational musicians, in September of 2008 Page McConnell joined PBS for a handful of dates which are all now featured at livephish.com.  Page also performed with PBS at the 2008 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.  Page and Russell have a musical history - playing together in Vida Blue, a band that Page formed in 2001.

Tue, 11/18/2008 - 6:01 pm

Recorded Live February 19th, 20th and 21st, 1993, this run at the intimate Roxy Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia set the stage for many classic tripartite celebrations to follow. With the second show's near-instant legendary status cemented among fans due largely to a non-stop thriller of a second set which included feats of rock and roll greatness, including a sit-in by a spurious Gene Simmons, At The Roxy captures a magical moment for Phish and their audience during a period of peak songwriting and experimentation.

Over three nights, the band showcased the full spectrum of their talents from ballads to blues, from master composition to fearless improvisation all simmered and served to a small crew of jubilant participants in a near perfect environment. At the same time, the quartet was experimenting with their acoustic, bluegrass side that peaked over the next several years and provided a perfect baffle to the intense, psychedelic rock of Rift-era Phish.

Download each night a-la-carte at LivePhish.com or order all three nights together as a specially-priced CD+MP3 bundle.

After a standout show on 12/29/97, the band gave a loose, funky performance on the second night of their three-night stand at Madison Square Garden.  The band came out of the gates smoking on night three of a four-show holiday tour on December 30th with "Sneakin' Sally Thru The Alley" > "Taste".  The nearly 3.5 hour marathon was capped by a playful, non-stop second set that highlighted a sublime "AC/DC Bag", rare "McGrupp And The Watchful Hosemasters" and a heavily-narrated "Harpua" which introduced elements of the New Year's Eve Udder Ball gag and Tom Marshall's mysterious appearance from Trey's past for Phish's first and only cover of The Proclaimer's "I Wanna Be (500 Miles)".  An extended "Harry Hood" > "My Soul" and a deep, four-song encore of "Carini" > "Black-Eyed Katy" > a reprised "Sneakin' Sally" and "Frankenstein" completed a curfew-breaking second set so long that the band got to wish the audience an early happy new year.  Paul Languedoc's 2-track soundboard mix mastered by Fred Kevorkian was sync'd to all the available video shot from the front-of-house position to create this latest LivePhish Video offering.  12/30/97 Madison Square Garden is an excellent example of just how fun a Phish Holiday show could be.  Alone or as a necessary companion to the previous show, this is must-hear (and must-see) Phish from the archives.

This concert is available now for download at LivePhish.com (MP3 and FLAC) and on CD (available also at Phish Dry Goods) as part of the LivePhish series, packaged in an innovative and earth-friendly (fully recycled) folding softcase digi-pak. Video of this concert (with fully sync'd soundboard audio) is also available at LivePhish.com. We've also created specially priced bundles for CD+MP3, CD+VIDEO, and FLAC+VIDEO.

Wed, 01/28/2009 - 9:20 pm

Last fall, when members of Phish—guitarist Trey Anastasio, drummer Jon Fishman, bassist Mike Gordon, and keyboardist Page McConnell—announced the band would take the stage again for the first time in four years, tickets for the three-night stand at Hampton Coliseum in Virginia sold out immediately. This month, the band announced additional dates, marking a return to the road for one of the most successful touring bands of all time. Tickets for this second touring leg go on sale this weekend.

JEMP Records and Rhino start the celebration a few days before Phish's highly anticipated March shows with a 7-DVD collection documenting The Clifford Ball, a landmark concert event that drew more than 70,000 fans to upstate New York in August of 1996. It was the largest concert event of 1996 in North America and set the tone for music festivals including Bonnaroo and Coachella.

The Clifford Ball was the first of seven two-day spectacles the band staged, which included The Great Went a year later, followed by Lemonwheel in 1998 and culminating in Big Cypress—the largest ticketed event in the world for the millennium celebrations, drawing over 90,000. The Clifford Ball was held in Plattsburgh, New York, at a decommissioned air force base, during which Phish played two marathon concerts which include several on-stage guests.

The DVDs contain all three sets and encores the band played each night, along with bonus footage—more than 9 hours of live improvisation. The bonus DVD presents choice rarities including a soundcheck from August 15, their "Flatbed Jam" performed in the wee hours of the morning on the back of a truck, an interview with longtime Phish artist Jim Pollock, interviews with Phish and more.

The Clifford Ball DVD Preorder is currently ongoing at Phish Dry Goods.

nugs.net's Live Phish mobile app used to stream and download Phish concerts after they happen received the Best Touring App award during the Billboard Music App Awards at the Billboard Mobile Entertainment Live! conference on Tuesday, October 5 in San Francisco.  Up against Bonnaroo's festival app by Aloompa and the R5 music venue app from Ticketfly, Live Phish clinched the award with a series of key features that drive online music sales.

Brad Serling, CEO of Live Phish creator nugs.net, detailed why 10,000 fans downloaded the app during its first week, establishing Live Phish as the number one paid music app on iTunes that week. Morover, 17 percent of those downloaders went on to purchase concert audio, as well as, Phish back catalog items through the app.

The app continues a historic trend in engagement between bands and fans. Music icons The Grateful Dead, another nugs.net client, largely invented file-sharing through a robust, band-supported peer-to-peer, mail-based community of concert tapers and tape-traders.

Fresh off the awards ceremony, nugs.net and Phish will set out to make history once again as Phish's fall tour, which kicks off this Sunday October 10 in Denver, marks the first time any band has included a download of each night's show in the ticket price.  Fans can redeem the bar code on every ticket at LivePhish.com for professionally mixed MP3s of the complete concert.   Fans can upgrade to CD or higher than CD quality 24 bit FLAC-HD.  Downloads of each night's show are posted within an hour of the band leaving the stage.

With offices in both San Francisco and Philadelphia, nugs.net is heading towards its 15th anniversary with year-long events celebrating their long running history with bands ranging from Metallica to the Grateful Dead.

On October 19th, JEMP Records released Coral Sky, a 2-DVD set capturing Phish’s November 2, 1996 performance at Coral Sky Amphitheater in West Palm Beach, FL. The complete, uncut concert was created from archival videotapes of the multi-camera lawn screen feed and the audio was mixed from multi-track masters in stereo PCM and 5.1 surround.Amid the swaying palms and soft breezes of South Florida, the two-and-a-half hour plus concert showcased some of the most unique and compelling playing of the band’s career, including a transcendent pairing of “Crosseyed And Painless” and “Run Like An Antelope.” Santana’s Karl Perazzo was featured on percussion throughout the show. Perazzo, who had become acquainted with the band members during their 1992 and 1996 summer tours with Santana, added polyrhythms that explored new space within Phish's music in this deeply experimental show. Allman Brothers Band drummer Butch Trucks sat in for the encore, “Funky Bitch.”Check out some video clips from the show, including Free & Sweet Adeline.  TO purchase the DVD, and/or to learn more about the DVD, click here

On Friday August 6, 2010, Phish played the second show of a sold out three-night stand at the Greek Theatre. The Greek Berkeley is a Greek Revival style, open-air amphitheater built in 1903 with a cozy capacity of about 8,500 and stunning views of the San Francisco Bay including the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges. This run, which began Leg 2 of the summer tour, was the band’s first visit to this venue since they closed their epic summer 1993 tour there. J.J. Cale opened the show in 1993 (joined by Trey and Mike for a sit-in) but in 2010 it was just three smoking nights of Phish. After a solid opening night on Thursday, during which Trey debuted his latest custom guitar with a special chant for luthier Paul Languedoc, the band really opened up for the Friday night show.

It was a cool night in the Berkeley foothills but the crowd was heated up and the band responded in kind, opening with “Chalk Dust Torture”. Next came the complexities of “Guyute” followed by a relaxed and grooving “Ocelot”, a song about the wildcat that adorns the headstock inlay on Trey’s new guitar, and “It’s Ice”. The music never stopped for the rest of set one as Phish tore through a topical combination of “Cities”, with its invocation of the ancient Greeks and an explosively funky Jam that formed the set’s apex, into “The Moma Dance”. Set one ended on a high note with “Bathtub Gin” > “Stealing Time From The Faulty Plan”.

Set two started with the Velvet Underground’s “Rock And Roll”, which briefly visited a mystical place (known as “Berkeley Jam 2”) before dropping into “Ghost”. This short but hot “Ghost” lit up with a groove that was still building when it bumped into the opening riffs of “Mike’s Song”. The selection recognized the especially resounding quality of Mike’s bass at the Greek and this dark and heavy “Mike’s Song” led to the pinnacle moment of the set if not the run. “Simple” that came next built patiently with exquisite restraint. Spacey digital delay provided a landing into “Backwards Down The Number Line” which in turn introduced California to the universal themes of the “Show Of Life”.  “You Enjoy Myself” closed the body of set two with an  Encore of “Good Times, Bad Times” as the middle show of this classic three-night stand drew to a close.

On Saturday August 7, 2010, Phish played the final show of a sold-out three-night stand at the Greek Theatre. After setting the bar high with the previous two shows, expectations soared. As the band continued their 2010 Greek run, they seemed to reach higher each night as they basked in the glow of this historic venue and an attentive crowd.

Phish opened the show with an old-school pairing of “AC/DC Bag” > “Foam”, the latter of which featured Page’s fine piano work. “Gotta Jibboo” was next as the band deepened their connection with the same patient, open-eared approach that developed over the previous shows. After a long pause they ripped into “Reba” as Trey’s new guitar emitted a flow of pretty leads and staccato runs amidst intricate Rhodes work by Page. Fish and Mike set the foundation for a soaring jam that came to a close without whistling. The year’s last “Sleep Again” and “Army Of One” provided a needed moment of reflection before “Poor Heart” led to a sizzling combination of “46 Days” > “Tube”, the former of which included a playful “Streets Of Cairo” tease by Trey among other highlights. Holding the last bass note from “Tube", Mike provided the bridge to a fiery, sing-a-long “Character Zero” that ended one of the few sets of 2010 that fits on a single CD.

After another lovely sunset over the San Francisco Bay, the band kicked off set two with “Wilson” > “Light”. This rendition of “Light” climbed to pinnacle heights, bending and floating to a sublime place that only Phish can go. As with “Simple” the previous night, this heavenly Jam transcended the limits of time and space before resolving perfectly into The Golden State’s first performance of “Twenty Years Later”. Twenty Years slid neatly into “Harry Hood”, which Fish accentuated with ghost notes on a second snare drum, press rolls and other percussion wizardry. As had become the rule here, the band quickly hooked up for this jam as they traded sustained notes that hung in the night air and reverberated across the Greek’s open bowl. Harry gave way to “Theme From The Bottom”, which built patiently to a strong peak, continuing the dynamic tone of this whole run of shows. Phish’s trademark reading of Deodato’s “2001” sustained the fun as fans jumped up and down with arms in the air and Mike repeatedly punctuated the funk with his foot bell. The thick “2001” groove gave way to a rocking “Suzy Greenberg” and shaking the trees for a few more minutes before slowing down for “Slave To The Traffic Light”. Slave featured a spacious jam that found the crowd mesmerized, leaning into the notes as if to connect more deeply with each one. Having started with “Wilson”, this special set could only end with the first “The Lizards” encore in nearly fifteen years as the eager crowd sang along “but I’m never ever going back there and I couldn’t if I tried...” and closed their eyes for the instrumental ending, wondering if or when such a run at such a place would happen again. Not another word was uttered as “First Tube” put the finishing touch on an incredible three days of music at one of the must stunning spots there is.

On Friday August 13, 2010, Phish played the second show of a sold-out two-night stand at the Verizon Wireless Music Center, commonly known as Deer Creek. It was the seventh show on Leg 2 of the band’s summer tour and their twentieth headline show at this outdoor covered amphitheater with a capacity of about 24,000. Phish first played this venue fifteen years earlier and had since played two nights each summer in 1996 (8/13/96 was released in 2002 on CD as LivePhish 12), 1997, 1998, 1999, 2004 and 2009. They also played three-night stands in 2000 and 2003 making this Phish’s most common outdoor summer host and a favorite of many fans who travel from across the country to camp in the surrounding cornfields. This was Friday, August 13th, which was also somewhat of an historic return – the band played a breakthrough gig on that same date seventeen years earlier at the Murat Theatre in Indianapolis (Murat 1993 - 8/13/93 was released in 2007). It was with this rich background that 2010’s Friday the 13th show took shape.

As temperatures soared into the mid-90’s, Phish kicked off the show with a rocking “Chalk Dust Torture” (surprisingly the first Chalk opener ever at Deer Creek) followed by “Guelah Papyrus”, which was played only one other time in Noblesville in 1997. The Fishman- penned bluegrass number “My Sweet One” came next, followed by “Axilla” and “I Didn’t Know” with a classic vacuum solo by Fish. “Walls Of The Cave” was played for the first time since the band’s 2009 return and preceded “Stash” and the alien themes of Mike’s ballad “Train Song” (the only version of the year) > “Backwards Down The Number Line”. “Ocelot” found the band improvising a bit more as Trey dropped some sweet leads. Deer Creek’s first “The Ballad of Curtis Loew” came at sunset. This Lynyrd Skynyrd cover, which recently returned to the live repertoire the previous summer, featured the band’s blues chops and Page’s soulful vocals. “Wilson” > “Possum” closed set one.

A mostly non-stop set two began with “Halley’s Comet” > “Light”, the latter of which inspired the band to venture outside the beat and let their freak flag fly, eventually hovering free for a few ambient minutes. The ambience led into “46 Days” which in turn transitioned to a high octane “Maze”. Set two continued with “Meatstick”, which showcased the band’s skills with Japanese lyrics before morphing through a unique and musically intense segue into “The Mango Song”. The band followed Trey’s lead one at a time into Mango, creatively riding it atop the “Meatstick” beat for a while before committing and ultimately finishing the song by starting “Fluffhead”. Fluff blew the place up before resolving into “Julius”, which brought the set to a high-energy close. The Deer Creek faithful were treated to an encore of “Contact” into a passionate “Slave To The Traffic Light” that provided a fitting end to another steamy stay at Deer Creek.

In response to the recent earthquake and tsunami that the people of the northeastern part of Japan have endured JEMP Records is releasing "7/31/99, Field of Heaven, Fuji Rock Festival, Niigata, JAPAN" as benefit CD at & download at Phish Dry Goods and livephish.com to benefit Peace Winds America. 100% of the funds Peace Winds America collects for disaster relief will go to support operations through their sister organization, Peace Winds Japan. Relief operations began March 15th and are currently underway in Miuyagi Prefecture, where Peace Winds is on the ground providing food, clothing, medicines and temporary shelter to survivors of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.

7/31/99 was recorded by Paul Languedoc and mastered by Fred Kevorkian. We'd like to thank Fred and the folks at Nugs.net and Music Today for donating their efforts to this cause.

The expected release date of the download at livephish.com will be April 15th. The expected ship date of the CD from Phish Dry Goods will be May 10th.

Immediately following their 1999 U.S. summer tour, Phish traveled abroad for their first ever shows in Japan. Fuji Rock Festival took place on multiple stages and the festival had specially designed the "Field Of Heaven" stage for Phish to play three consecutive nights of complete, two-set headline shows.

This release features Phish’s entire show from July 31, 1999 – the middle, Saturday night as well as “What’s The Use?” from their soundcheck on July 29th. The July 31st show crackled with energy, intermingling classic and new material with an exploratory vibe that meshed with the atmosphere of respect and beauty.

Set one had many high points including standout performances of “My Friend, My Friend”, “Back On The Train”, “Limb By Limb” and “Character Zero”. Set two started in the stratosphere with a “2001” > “David Bowie” opener that proved the most experimental music played at Fuji Rock transposed against the gentle beauty of “Wading In The Velvet Sea”. Set two also featured one of the all-time great renditions of “Prince Caspian”, a smoking “Fluffhead” and mystical “Simple”. The encore provided a chance for friend and fellow musician Nawang Khechog to address the crowd about Tibetan human rights and perform with Fish on vacuum for a meditative jam with Fish and with the whole band on flute for a special “Brian And Robert”. Japan proved a perfect host for Phish, the Field Of Heaven has survived ever since as part of Fuji Rock Festival and Phish has maintained a strong connection with Japan, weaving Japanese lyrics into “The Meatstick” as recently as New Year’s Eve 2010-2011.

In the past, charitable downloads at LivePhish.com have raised over $100,000 for four non-profits: the Harbor House of New Jersey (The Headphones Jam), the New Orleans Musician's Clinic, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Fund (Katrina Relief) and the American Red Cross (Haiti Relief). Additionally, the Mockingbird Foundation receives funding on an on-going basis from the proceeds at LivePhish.com.

Sensational. Mind-blowing. Fantabulous. These are all words with the same amount of letters as SUPER BALL IX. It's Phish's biggest. Ball. Ever. So big we can't. Contain it. In one sentence.

Super Ball IX, Phish's ninth festival, will take place July 1-3 at Watkins Glen International. Located amidst the rolling hills of central New York's Finger Lakes region, the site offers an abundance of campsites and is just a short drive from numerous Northeastern cities. Super Ball IX will mark Phish's first-ever festival performance over July 4 weekend, and the first major music festival held at Watkins Glen since 1973's legendary Summer Jam. It is also Phish's first-ever performance at a facility with "Watkins" in its name.

Tickets for Super Ball IX go on sale this Monday, April 4th, at Noon ET here. Onsite camping is included in the price of admission. Like previous Phish festivals, the event will include numerous activities, attractions and art installations in addition to a series of performances by the band. Camping and travel packages will. Be. Available. (Sorry, hard habit to break.)

Super Ball IX continues a tradition that began with The Clifford Ball in August of 1996. Rolling Stone observed, "It was definitely groundbreaking...there was a real story; that in an age of corporate sponsorship, this completely home-grown thing happened that was different from any other concert."

Anyone purchasing Super Ball IX tickets will receive a free MP3 download of each set the band plays during the weekend from livephish.com, where they'll be available shortly after Phish steps off stage.

SuperBallIX.com and Phish.com will be your main source for all things Ball. We've posted the first wave of information about the festival and will continue to update with Travel info, FAQs, Guidelines, Event Info, the hottest celebrity news, and much much more, so keep checking back.

Note: Super Ball IX is pronounced "Super Ball Nine," not "Super Ball Icks." You're welcome.

On Saturday, October 30, 2010, Phish played the second show of a sold out three-night Halloween celebration at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Boardwalk Hall is a historic indoor venue built in 1927 with a prime spot on the Boardwalk with sweeping views of the beach and ocean. Having prepared to unveil their sixth “musical costume” (Little Feat’s Waiting For Columbus) the following night, the band used this middle show to tease the audience about a heavily rumored Led Zeppelin cover.

Night two at Boardwalk Hall opened with “Kill Devil Falls” followed by “Cavern”, “Foam” and “Guelah Papyrus”. It was apparent that the band had begun their Halloween transformation as they sounded throughout this show like Little Feat playing Phish music – a sonic treat for all in attendance even though the musical costume was still a well-guarded secret. Set one continued with a blistering “Chalk Dust Torture” that tore naturally into Phish’s first true performance of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” > “Chalk Dust Torture”. The band had soundchecked “Whole Lotta Love” earlier to fuel the gag (fans leaked the check on the internet) so playing it live confirmed that Zeppelin was just a rumor. Laughing aloud at their prank, the next song was the obvious yet rare “Ha Ha Ha”. The James Gang’s “Walk Away” came next followed by a crushingly funky, Feat-inflected sequence of “Wolfman’s Brother” > “Undermind” > “Bathtub Gin”. This intense three-song combo set up the chance to end Gin with one of many “Whole Lotta Love” teases that dotted the evening. “The Squirming Coil” gave Trey the clever opportunity to sing about seeing Satan on the beach, and Page an invitation to layer Led Zeppelin’s “Thank You” into his gorgeous piano outré.

Set two began with “Tube” > “Possum”, the latter weaving through more “Whole Lotta Love” teases before setting up the centerpiece of the set – a “Tweezer”-based journey through Led Zeppelin’s greatest hits by Phish- turned-Feat. This supercharged, historic “Tweezer” rolled in and out of partial performances of “Heartbreaker”, “Ramble On”, “Thank You” and last but not least “Stairway To Heaven”. Three of the four Zeppelin songs were Phish debuts and, after the Stairway ending, the band proudly took their first pause of the set while the audience went haywire. “Halley’s Comet” > “2001” provided a nice passageway to “David Bowie”, which introduction Trey customized by spiking it with Robert Plant’s live “25, 25, 25” exhortations from “Dazed And Confused”. “Show Of Life” was next, followed by “Backwards Down The Number Line” > Good Times, Bad Times”. The encore was “Sleeping Monkey”, which gave Trey a chance to sing more about the shore before ripping the roof off with “Tweezer Reprise”. The Reprise included more “Whole Lotta Love” and “Dazed And Confused” tricks and treats, putting the final touches on a spectacular Halloween Eve.

Phish 10/26/10 Verizon Wireless Arena – Manchester, NH

On Tuesday October 26, 2010, Phish played their first Granite State show in sixteen years at Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire. The VZW Arena is a multi-purpose arena built in 2001 with a capacity of about 10,000. A drive through the foliage was but one of the peak attractions of this out-of-the-way gig. It was the last show before the Halloween run and the band played a loose, relaxed show chock full of surprises for the New England faithful.Set one of Mansfield began with Phish’s first “After Midnight” since the epic Big Cypress Millennium events nearly eleven years earlier. “The Sloth” came next followed by “Alumni Blues” > “Letter To Jimmy Page” > “Alumni Blues”, during which Trey added lyrics about his Alma matter Goddard College. An especially Rasta, New Hampshire reggae extravaganza began to take shape with Bob Marley’s “Mellow Mood”. “Access Me” was played for the third time ever, continuing the string of bust-outs and setting the stage for Leo to shine on “Llama”. Next came “All Of These Dreams” – a poignant Trey, Tom Marshall, Scott Herman ballad that was played for just the second time since the band’s 2009 reunion. “The Curtain With” > “Scent Of A Mule” brought the first improvisational heights of the evening, followed by “A Song I Heard The Ocean Sing”. Set one came to a close with the ambitious combination of “It’s Ice” > “Walls Of The Cave”. After this parade of rarities, set break was abuzz with speculation about the rest of the show.

A nearly seamless second set began with the high energy of “Possum” > “Light” > “Mike’s Song” > “Simple”. “Light” exploded into some of the show’s most exploratory playing. Energy remained high and consciousness higher as the utterance of “Makisupa Policeman” gave way to Phish’s first and only performance of “Night Nurse” – a tribute to Gregory Isaacs who passed away the previous day. Makisupa picked back up where it left off, creating a bridge to “The Wedge” after which the band paused for the only time during set two. “Ghost” came next and lit up the room before segueing into “The Mango Song”, which reached its own heights fueled by Page’s soaring piano work. Trey started to close Mike’s Groove by transposing the “Weekapaug Groove” rhythm over Mango’s ending. Some cool jamming ensued as Fish switched to sixteenth notes on the high hat and “Weekapaug Groove” developed into a Uticular jam that found lyrics from “Ghost” and “Night Nurse” intertwined with a “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking” ending. This crazy Weekapaug boiled over into a return to “Llama” that ended the body of set two. The “Show Of Life” provided a fitting encore to this special gig.

In the midst of their legendary fall 1997 tour, Phish stopped in Dixie for two shows in Virginia and one in North Carolina.  The 1997 Hampton Coliseum shows were the band's first two-night stand at Hampton Coliseum – a venue they have played a total of fifteen times including a two-night stand in 1998 (released as Hampton Comes Alive) and a trio of reunion shows in 2009.  The shape and feel of the venue have earned it the nickname “The Mothership” among fans.  The next show after Hampton 1997 took place at Lawrence Joel Veteran's Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem, North Carolina - another familiar venue where Phish also performed in 1994, 1995 and 1998.These three shows were a memorable triad for the band and fans.  They are among the most requested shows for soundboard release from the Phish Archives and make up a compelling slice of the twenty-two-show tour that stretched from Las Vegas to Albany.  The Hampton/Winston-Salem 97 shows were packed with notable renditions of classics including “Split Open And Melt”, “AC/DC Bag”, “Slave To The Traffic Light”, “Mike’s Song”, “Halley's Comet”, “Tweezer”, “Run Like An Antelope”, “Stash” and “Bathtub Gin”.  The band also showcased a wide variety of newer covers from the debut of the Rolling Stones' “Emotional Rescue” to Del McCoury's “Beauty Of My Dreams”, Jimi Hendrix's “Izabella”, Clifton Chenier's “My Soul” and even an impromptu take on War's “Low Rider” (sandwiched inside a blazing “Down With Disease”).  The Hampton/Winston-Salem 97 shows also showcased newer originals like “Dogs Stole Things”, “Ghost”, “Piper” and the brand-new-for-fall instrumental “Black-Eyed Katy”, which is the only song repeated on the release.  More than what was played, the sheer heights of these performances are what made them special and built their acclaim. The Hampton/Winston-Salem 97 shows featured Phish at an emotional peak of execution and flow.  The band was hooking up at every turn, taking chances and dropping musical surprises for each other and the audience.  Throughout these shows, Phish seized most every opportunity to lift and expand their repertoire while maintaining a raging dance party at every turn.  The audience magnified this explosive energy, spinning the shows into a ball of psychedelic, funk-infused live Phish for the ages.  Paul Languedoc’s stereo “soundboard” mix re-mastered by Fred Kevorkian funnels the energy of these special shows to listeners' ears nearly fifteen years later.  Hampton/Winston-Salem 97 contains all the music played over these three shows for a total of 45 songs - over 8 hours of music - including never-before-heard material from soundchecks at both venues.  The 7-CD boxed set (also available as downloads at livephish.com) slated for release December 6, 2011 is a must-own collection for any Phish fan.

Trey Anastasio will launch his first-ever orchestral tour on February 9, 2012, performing with the Atlanta Symphony at the Atlanta Symphony Hall. The Trey Anastasio Winter Symphony Tour will also include performances with the Pittsburgh Symphony (2/14), the Colorado Symphony (2/28) and the Los Angeles Philharmonic (3/10). The programs, conducted by Scott Dunn in all four cities, will feature orchestrations of classic Phish songs and solo Anastasio compositions.

Tickets will be available through a real time presale beginning Thursday, December 1, at 10:00 am ET and ending Wednesday, December 7, at noon ET at http://treytickets.rlc.net. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Thursday, December 8, for Denver and Los Angeles, and Friday, December 9, for Atlanta and Pittsburgh. Visit www.trey.com for further details.

In 2009, Anastasio made his debut with the New York Philharmonic and Baltimore Symphony in programs that featured his concerto for electric guitar and orchestra, Time Turns Elastic, as well as original compositions.

The New York Times hailed Trey's Carnegie Hall performance with the New York Philharmonic as "that rarest of rarities, a classical-rock hybrid that might please partisans from both constituencies. Set amid a generous group of popular Phish songs -- gentle, string-cushioned ballads like "Brian and Robert" and "Let Me Lie," as well as the audacious, intricate instrumentals "Guyute Orchestral" and "You Enjoy Myself" -- the new piece [Time Turns Elastic] could hardly have gone wrong."

Scott Dunn is the Associate Conductor of the LA Philharmonic's Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. Highlights of his recent schedule include Vernon Duke's 'ORPHIC TRILOGY' with the St Petersburg Philharmonic; appearances with the Hollywood Bowl orchestra and such popular headliners as Beck, Chris Botti, Natalie Cole and others; the world premiere and Carnegie Hall repeat performance of Mohammed Fairouz's opera SUMEIDA'S SONG; and the West Coast premiere of Phillip Glass's rarely heard ANOTHER LOOK AT HARMONY PART IV.

JEMP records is excited to share "Phish 12/31/91, Worcester Memorial Auditorium (The New Aud), Worcester, MA", available NOW as a 3-set digital download and on-demand CD from livephish.com

Phish had a busy year in 1991, signing a record deal with Elektra Records and touring coast-to-coast for a total of more than 130 shows including a fourteen-show tour with a three-piece horn section and the first unofficial Phish festival at Amy’s Farm. That summer Phish also recorded their third studio album, "A Picture Of Nectar".  White Crow Studios in Burlington, Vermont provided the backdrop for Nectar’s namesake with engineering duties covered by Kevin Halpin and Jon Altschiller. While Jon was still getting his start as an engineer, he was also a fan and was among the dozen-or-so tapers at The New Aud for the band's New Year's Eve concert. Thanks to his work on Nectar, Jon was allowed to set up his microphones inside the front-of-house position.  He also managed to snag a then-rare soundboard patch from FOH engineer Paul Languedoc.

Fast forward to 2010 when Jon returned to work with Phish on the road as LivePhish.com remote engineer and the seeds were sown for the release of this classic show. Twenty years later, Jon combined his audience and soundboard DAT recordings to create the matrix for The New Aud release.  Mastered by Fred Kevorkian, this unique source is a proper document of the show, combining the qualities of both sources and harnessing the electricity that characterized this special performance.

2012 marks the 30th anniversary of Brian Eno's landmark tribute to the NASA moon landings, Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks. The New York Guitar Festival presents a rare live re-imagining of this masterpiece featuring the Brooklyn ambient ensemble Itsnotyouitsme, legendary NY guitar master Larry Campbell and special guests David Torn, Noveller, Tortoise's Jeff Parker, and Phish's Mike Gordon.Originally commissioned as the soundtrack to Al Reinhardt's Oscar nominated documentary, For All Mankind, the music captures the wonder of space travel, evoking what Buzz Aldrin would call its "magnificent desolation". Eno and his collaborators guitarist/producer Daniel Lanois and instrumentalist brother Roger Eno, created a rich, deeply moving sonic landscape which melded cutting edge electronics and studio techniques with raw virtuosic guitar. A founder of the seminal rock band Roxy Music and known as the father of ambient music, Eno is highly influential for his work as a solo artist and producer of other artists including U2, Talking Heads, Coldplay, Devo, Depeche Mode, Laurie Anderson and Paul Simon. The album's tracks have also been used to great effect in films such as 28 Days Later, Traffic and Trainspotting, who's soundtrack has sold over four million copies. The use of guitar on the record runs the gamut from the soaring minimalist harmonics of "Always Returning" to Lanois' grounded pedal steel on "Deep Blue Day", inspired by the astronaut's decision to bring music by country legends Buck Owens and Merle Haggard and others as accompaniment to their nearly half million mile trek. The performance will feature scenes from the documentary feature "Man In The Right Seat", a work in progress by director Craig Teper, whose film "Vidal Sassoon The Movie", was released in 2011. Man In The Right Seat is the chronicle of Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell, whose epiphany on the return flight from his moonwalk, would forever alter the course of his life and bridge the gap between scientific exploration and mystical experience. Mitchell's first hand accounts of the journey to and from the moon will punctuate this evening of grand and gentle music at the foot of the newly rising World Trade Center.ABOUT LARRY CAMPBELLA multi-instrumentalist who has been a respected studio musician and sideman in performing bands since the 1970s, Larry Campbell moves freely between rock, blues, country, folk and Celtic styles, playing guitar, fiddle, mandolin, pedal steel, cittern, dobro and banjo. On Record Store Day, Phish will release Junta, the band's first full-length studio album, as a Limited Edition Deluxe 3-LP vinyl set, available exclusively at participating independently owned record stores across the country. Junta marks the band's second release in conjunction with Record Store Day, and the first time Junta has ever been released on vinyl. This LE Deluxe 3-LP vinyl set is limited to 5,000 individually numbered copies. Junta was recorded at Euphoria Sound Studios in Revere, Massachusetts in 1987 and 1988 on 16-track 2" tape and was mixed to 1/4" stereo reels. In addition to writing and performing all the music, the band produced the album themselves - gathering around Engineer Gordon Hookailo's console to do group fades since the studio lacked mix automation. Junta was originally self-released on cassette tape in May 1989 with packaging created by the band (included in the new vinyl package). The album was remastered and rereleased as a double CD (and cassette) in October 1992. Junta was certified Gold but, until now, has never been heard on vinyl. The vinyl release was created from the original stereo master reels with lacquers cut by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. Each LP is pressed onto 180g audiophile grade vinyl and includes a free MP3 download of the entire album (transferred from the new vinyl master).2,500 of these Deluxe LP sets will include a brand new Limited Edition hand-carved, hand-printed linolium block poster by Jim Pollock, created exclusively for this release. These editions will be distributed randomly at participating independently owned record stores across the country, but will be clearly marked. This LE Deluxe 3-LP vinyl set was created exclusively for Record Store Day. On July 31, Phish will release Chicago '94, a brand new 6-CD box set, showcasing two complete shows recorded live on June 18, 1994 and November 25, 1994 at UIC Pavilion in Chicago, IL.

By 1994, Phish was well established as an international touring act and already well known to a growing group of hardcore fans. Amidst a tour packed with highlights - it was this summer that convinced the band to start multi-tracking their live shows - this show was recorded for posterity on 2-track DAT. Lightning rarely strikes twice in the same place but Chicago '94 is an example of just that.

Paul Languedoc's stereo soundboard mixes re-mastered by Fred Kevorkian carry the intensity and intricacy of these special shows to listeners' ears eighteen years later. Chicago '94 contains nearly six hours of music performed at both shows for a total of 43 songs, including material from the UIC soundchecks. The shows are presented in a 6-CD box set with new artwork by longtime collaborator and Chicagoan, Jim Pollock.

Chicago '94 is available for preorder now at Phish Dry Goods. Everyone who orders from Phish Dry Goods will receive a free Jim Pollock baseball trading card (there will be four total to collect). In addition, Phish Dry Goods is offering FREE SHIPPING on all orders over $90, and several bundles are available, with some new items including a band new Chicago '94 T and a brand new Limited Edition poster.

The release was created from Paul Languedoc's DAT stereo soundboard mix remastered by Fred Kevorkian and contains 16 songs totaling two and a half hours of music.

Phish's third show at The Palace on December 6, 1997 was yet another defining fall '97 gig, with an under-recognized set I and a renowned set II that must be heard in one sitting, preferably loud with headphones. Set I highlights include an intense second-song Run Like An Antelope, alien landscapes of Train Song and seamless pairings of Bathtub Gin > Foam and Fee > Maze.

Set II was a unified, non-stop affair: Tweezer > Izabella > Twist > Piper > Sleeping Monkey > Tweezer Reprise. As they rounded the bend into the final week of this storied fall tour, the band had a confident swagger that exploded in The Palace with a flood of combined energy that flows through on the tapes. On August 11, 1998 Phish played at Star Lake Amphitheatre in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania.  This was their second visit to Star Lake of seven to-date starting in 1997 and including 2003, 2009 and 2012 shows previously released at LivePhish.com.The Star Lake 98 show was the 20th of summer to showcase the loose, experimental vibe of a tour that began in Europe and jumped to the United States enroute to the summer’s ending Lemonwheel festival.  The introduction of a never-before-played cover each night earned the tour the nickname “summer of covers” from fans and Star Lake’s contribution was a Trench Town Rock opener.  Star Lake also saw the return of Time Loves A Hero which was played for the first time in a decade and segued out of a sultry Wolfman’s BrotherJulius, an extended Fee outro (during which hip Pittsburghians clapped along on the 2 and 4) and deep renditions of Maze and Reba set the stage for set II.  The second set featured a super-swinging, ethereal Runaway Jim that foreshadowed 2011’s Storage Jam and an unusual pairing of Meat > Limb By Limb.  Local flavor of the Commonwealth was provided by Bittersweet Motel (the title of the Phish documentary recorded during Europe ’98 dates) and Wilson, King of Prussia.Star Lake 98 is the only full show available as video from summer 1998.  The 2-DVD set was created from archival VHS videotapes of the 3-camera lawn screen feed.  The audio was mixed from multi-track masters in stereo PCM and 5.1 surround.  It will be released on DVD and digital audio download December 11 on JEMP Records.

Mon, 11/05/2012 - 3:39 pm

All new 2-DVD set, recorded live on August 11, 1998 at Star Lake Amphitheatre in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania. The Star Lake 98 show was the 20th of summer to display the loose, experimental vibe of a tour that began in Europe and jumped to the United States enroute to the summer's ending Lemonwheel festival.

"Star Lake 98" is the only full video show available in the Archives from Phish's Summer 1998 tour. The 2-DVD set was created from archival VHS videotapes of the 3-camera lawn screen feed. The audio was mixed from multi-track masters in stereo PCM and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround (aspect Ratio 4:3, regions 1-6 NTSC) and clocks in at just about 2 hours and 50 minutes. The introduction of a never-before-played cover each night earned the tour the nickname ?the summer of covers? from fans and band alike and Star Lake's contribution was "Trench Town Rock." Star Lake also saw the return of "Time Loves A Hero" which was played for the first time in a decade and segued out of a sultry "Wolfman's Brother." An extended "Fee" extro and hot renditions of "Maze" and "Reba" set the stage for set II's super-swinging, ethereal "Runaway Jim" and the unusual pairing of "Meat" > "Limb By Limb". Local flavor of the Commonwealth was provided by "Bittersweet Motel" (the title of the Phish documentary recorded during the Europe dates) and "Wilson," King of Prussia.

JEMP Records is pleased to announce the release of Phish: 5/3/93 State Theatre, New Brunswick NJ as a benefit download at LivePhish.com.  There's a lot of excitement about this release already and we are so glad to be able to offer it as a charitable endeavor in keeping with our tradition of successful benefit downloads from years past.  These include the Headphones Jam (Harbor House of New Jersey), Katrina Relief (Tipitina Foundation and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation), Haiti Relief (Red Cross/Haiti and Partners in Health) and Japan Relief (Peace Winds America/Japan) as well as the WaterWheel Vermont Flood Recovery Fund which receives proceeds from the 9/14/11 livephish.com download.

In late October of last year, Hurricane Sandy bore down on the Atlantic seaboard, wreaking havoc and leaving a swath of devastation. Among the hardest hit from this "super storm" were costal areas of both New York and New Jersey. In response, the WaterWheel Foundation with the help of the Mimi Fishman Foundation quickly launched a ticket auction for Phish's NYE run at Madison Square Garden.  Eight pair of tickets raised over $10,000, which was then donated to The Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties in NJ and The Food Bank for New York City to assist with their relief efforts.  Proceeds from this release will go to benefit rebuilding efforts in both New Jersey (Middlesex County Long Term Recovery Group) and New York (respondandrebuild.org).

On Record Store Day 2013, Phish will release Lawn Boy, the band's second full-length studio album, as a Limited Edition Deluxe 2-LP vinyl set, available exclusively at participating independently owned record stores across the country. Lawn Boy marks the band's third release in conjunction with Record Store Day (joining Two Soundchecks and Junta) and the first time it has been available on vinyl in well over a decade. This LE Deluxe 2-LP vinyl set is limited to 7,500 individually numbered copies. Lawn Boy was recorded and mixed at Archer Studios in Winooski, VT in 1989 and 1990 on 16-track 2" tape and was mixed to 1/4" stereo reels. The band won the initial studio time with a first-place Rock Rumble performance on April 21, 1989 at a downtown Burlington, VT club called The Front. The Lawn Boy sessions that followed consisted of mostly live takes with a few effects and overdubs. Engineer Dan Archer acquired a baby grand piano specifically for the recording, Fish played his drums squeezed into a vocal isolation booth and the band utilized local musicians including members of what would soon be called the Giant Country Horns. Like Junta before it, Phish self-produced Lawn Boy on a hands-on level, surrounding the console for group fades without aid of automation.Lawn Boy was initially self-distributed on cassette tape in 1990 and officially released on September 21, 1990 on Absolute A-Go-Go and Rough Trade Records on cassette, single-LP vinyl and CD (with CD bonus track Fee). The album was later re-mastered by Bob Ludwig and re-released on CD and cassette by Elektra Records June 30, 1992 and was eventually certified Gold. This new vinyl release was created from the original 1/4" stereo master reels with lacquers cut by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. Each LP is pressed onto 180g audiophile grade vinyl and includes a free MP3 download of the entire album (transferred from the new vinyl master). Deluxe packaging includes an 8-page photo booklet, plenty of painted-Fishman outtakes, and an etched D-side.This LE Deluxe 2-LP vinyl set was created exclusively for Record Store Day. Lawn Boy will be available in stores only beginning Saturday, April 20th. For a complete list of participating record stores, please click here.

On December 11, 2011, Mike Gordon and his band performed at The Egg in Albany, NY as part of a quick November/December weekend run of dates. The show quickly became a fan-favorite and was cherry picked for a brand new live release, simply known as "The Egg". It has been fully remixed from the band's multitracks and mastered for release and is available as a CD set and a free MP3 download at LivePhish.com.Mike describes the venue as "so tight sounding that evening that every note was easy to hear, which allows a band to play with more intention and more connection. Ironically, the extra feeling of control made us feel like we could play with more reckless abandon." The five-piece lineup includes Mike on bass, Scott Murawski on guitar, Craig Myers on percussion, Tom Cleary on keyboards and drummer Todd Isler. The show features originals from Mike's catalog, including "Horizon Line", "Only A Dream", "Voices", and "Hap Nappy". Phish fans will recognize "Sugar Shack" and "Suzy Greenberg", which included The Dude Of Life on vocals. To round out "The Egg", three tracks were selected from Mike's March 26, 2011 show at Higher Ground in Burlington, VT, including an extended version of "Mound".The 3-CD set is available as a very limited physical run, with deluxe packaging that includes a custom round tin with three discs tucked away inside a custom Egg cotton stash bag. It is available now exclusively at Phish Dry Goods and Mike's online store and ships for just $4.50.

Phish archivist Kevin Shapiro has penned an essay about this new release.

It was hot and humid on Tuesday June 20, 1995 – the night after the Summer Solstice - when Phish played their first headline show at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. The venue was a wooden, natural parabolic amphitheater designed by Peter van Dijk and set inside the Cuyahoga Valley National Park near Cleveland. Phish had played Blossom once before in 1992 opening for Santana but this time they sold more than half of the 18,000 tickets to the eleventh show of a 22-show summer tour.

The band’s first live record, A Live One, was to be released the following Tuesday and Trey had recorded his experimental jazz project, Surrender To The Air, during the spring. Phish and their management had begun the move from Boston to Vermont. Adding to the atmosphere of change, the Minkin backdrops that had been used onstage since 12/31/91 were replaced with a new set of Minkin-designed fabric scrims better suited to amphitheaters. The band was playing new material too, including a cluster of songs debuted a month before at a one-off show in Lowell, Massachusetts like Spock’s Brain, Theme From The Bottom, Strange Design and more. The ten summer shows between Lowell and Blossom saw the first live performances of Taste, and Prince Caspian as well as new covers like A Day In The Life and Johnny B. Goode. Most of these originals were eventually recorded for Billy Breathes, which hit the streets more than a year later in fall 1996.

Blossom ’95 was a barn burner, kicking off with a Llama opener followed by a killer Spock’s Brain – the 4th of of 5 played in summer 1995 before the song was shelved until 2000. Set I also featured Bathtub Gin with a pogo-stick tension jam that the band rode right over the cliff. Taste and I Didn’t Know followed and Trey introduced Fish during I Didn’t Know as “the only living layer that’s fueling this living layer.” A deep and crazy Split Open And Melt closed set I as Fish deconstructed the beat, breaking up the jam in a demented tick-tock vibe that led to a taste of Dave’s Energy Guide and some huge drums and bass. Set II opened with Halley’s Comet > Chalk Dust Torture, with some incendiary full- band jamming (and another taste of DEG) during Chalk. The major highlight of the show was centered on the jaw-dropping, first-ever combination of Mike’s Song > Contact > Weekapaug Groove. This Mike’s is must-hear, primal Phish that culminated in a spooky pulsating drone accentuated by sirens and Fish’s maniacal giggling. The pure insanity of the Mike’s ending formed the transition into Contact. Weekapaug Groove finished the suite, with Trey focusing on rhythm leaving Page free to shape the jam and foreshadowing the addition of Trey’s percussion rig in fall. Weekapaug ended in a deep, tribal section that melted into Hold Your Head Up as Trey took over the drums and Fish sang Cracklin’ Rosie. A possessed Highway To Hell capped the set. The encore was Slave To The Traffic Light, with some nice improvisation that bumped between huge arena-rock and a minimalistic, almost ambient work from Page’s Rhodes to Fish’s cymbal rolls. Amazing Grace closed another Ohio show for the ages.

The icing on the cake of the 6/20/95 Blossom release is the filler from the next show - the entire second set from 6/22/95 at Finger Lakes Performing Arts Center in Canandaigua, New York. This outrageous 3-song set picked up where the band left off at Blossom and rocketed through the stratosphere so fast and far that it even left some veteran fans confused about the band’s new direction, which was clearly OUT. Set II from FLPAC was based around a giant 41-minute Tweezer that was instantly known by all present as “The Fleezer”. Theme From The Bottom opened set II and led into perhaps one of the weirdest Tweezers in Phish history. This Tweezer spun its way into a bluegrass detour through My Generation (in the style it was played at Blossom’s soundcheck and eventually on 10/31/95 when the band covered Quadrophenia), some bent jazz complete with screaming, vacuum accompaniment and even a quick Rift tease. The Fleezer departed its free-form psychedelic roots just in time to segue into Tweezer Reprise by way of a piano interlude. Trey acknowledged the magnitude of what just transpired with his refrain of “Step into the Fleezer” as the band laid waste to the first Tweezer > Tweezer Reprise combination in more than four years. To call this segment Filler is to do it an injustice - Blossom and FLPAC are forever connected.

6/20/95 Blossom was created from Paul Languedoc’s stereo soundboard/audience mix, mastered by Fred Kevorkian and contains three and a half hours of music totaling just 25 songs. The 3-CD-length set is currently available as a FLAC and MP3 download at livephish.com and is slated for release by JEMP Records on April 30, 2013.

Mike shared songwriting duties with guitarist and longtime collaborator Scott Murawski and handed over the producing reins for the first time in his solo career, enlisting Paul Q. He'll be joined on the road by his longtime band - Scott Murawski (guitar), Craig Myers (percussion), Tom Cleary (keyboards) and Todd Isler (drums). The band's new repertoire will be augmented by hints of secret synesthetic mad scientist gadgetry on and around the stage.

On February 25, 2014, Megaplum/ATO Records will release Mike Gordon's new studio solo album, Overstep. It is available for pre-order now at Mike's Store and Phish Dry Goods on both CD and a 2-LP blue vinyl set. Overstep is Mike's fourth solo studio album, following Moss, The Green Sparrow, and Inside In.Beginning today, fans can listen to "Yarmouth Road", the first single from the album, exclusively at Rollingstone.com. The infectious, reggae-inspired number is already familiar to Phish fans after its debut (along with "Say Something") on the band's Summer 2013 tour. In addition, anyone who pre-orders the album at iTunes will receive an automatic download of 'Yarmouth Road'. Fans also can stream "Ether," the album's opening track hereGordon and Scott Murawski penned the songs for Overstep during a series of writing retreats in New England. He turned over the producing reins to Paul Q. Kolderie (Radiohead, Uncle Tupelo, Pixies) and invited a few new players into the studio, including legendary drummer Matt Chamberlain (Jon Brion, Fiona Apple). Distant industrial noise gradually gives way to lush guitars and welcoming vocal harmonies in "Ether," the album opener (listen to the track here), while "Jumping" is a rhythmic puzzle box, detailing a series of thoughts that take place in a fleeting 1.5 seconds. Many of these songs promise huge payoffs in a live environment, most notably two plunging grooves that seem capable of bringing a house down. "Tiny Little World" opens with a polite reverie about a fetching woman in a coffee shop, but morphs quickly into pulsing boogie as the narrator is carried away by desire and bravado. Debauched exhortations to dance surface again in "Face," which chugs along atop Chamberlain's simple but undeniable pocket. The songs on Overstep also speak to Gordon's evolving ability to develop three- dimensional characters, and to speak more directly to the truth of their condition. He hasn't lost his appetite for metaphor, and he still leaves plenty of room for interpretation, but listeners may find themselves recognizing the human portraits in songs like "Say Something" and "Paint" in a way they haven't in Gordon's previous albums. Still, happily, Gordon embraces absurdity as he always has - conceptually, lyrically, and musically.Bundles with t-shirts, record player slipmats, and more are also available. Everyone who orders from Phish Dry Goods or Mike's online store will receive an autographed copy of the album, and be automatically entered to win a set of the original vinyl test pressings and tickets to a show on his Spring Tour. Mike Gordon returns to the road with his band on the heels of last year's exhilarating tour supporting Overstep. The tour will begin down south in Charleston, SC and will include stops in St. Louis, Chicago, Philly, Albany, Buffalo, New Haven and more. Mike will perform as part of the Lowell Summer Music Series just outside of Boston and will return to the famed Egg in Albany.

A limited number of tickets are available NOW via a real-time presale at tickets.mike-gordon.com which ends Thursday, April 9 at 5PM ET. Tickets will go on sale to the public beginning Friday, April 10.

The band will make a few debuts along the way including The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, Paper Mill Island in Syracuse and a Father's Day show at the Academy of Music in Northampton. The band's repertoire will be augmented by hints of synesthetic mad scientist gadgetry on and around the stage.

Wired Magazine came out to a show on Mike's March tour last year to experience and talk about the new visual, audio and interactive tech-ification that will be a part of this June run.

"I like the idea of breaking down boundaries," Gordon says. Of the theatrics and curiosities onstage on the Overstep tour, the centerpiece is an interactive piano-like instrument spanning the lip of the stage. At certain points during the show, touch-sensitive panels illuminate; by tapping on them, audience members trigger sounds and jam with the band as it plays. That's just one piece of the big wacky puzzle. To experience it for yourself, catch one of the shows on this tour.

On November 7, 1996 Phish played their only show to-date at Rupp Arena in downtown Lexington, KY – best known as the home of University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball.  Opened in 1976 with a capacity of 23,500 and named for former UK Coach Adolph Rupp, the venue was dubbed “the largest sporting arena in the country.”  Phish rolled into Cats country just three shows after their Halloween Remain in Light show and midway into a 35-date national tour.  The band’s sixth studio album, Billy Breathes, was released October 16th.  Fall tour started that same day and was heating up on the heels of multiple guest drums and percussion appearances by The Fringe/Surrender to the Air’s Bob Gullotti and Santana’s Karl Perazzo.  The band built upon that energy with driving beats, heavy keys and Trey’s percussion setup to propel the music into a new groove-driven amalgam, foreshadowing what was eventually called cow funk.  A Live One had been out for more than a year, but multitrack tapes were still spinning to capture the magic at Rupp Arena - where more than 10,000 UK students and Phishheads got far beyond their $20 worth of vast jams, deep exploration and rarities.

Rupp Arena set I highlights included a Chalk Dust Torture opener, the only Weigh of fall tour and a hot Stash.  Waste and the tour’s first Guyute came next, followed by a Free > Tela combination that featured the Billy Breathes hit single paired with fall’s only Tela.  An incendiary Character Zero closed the set.  The Rupp’s set II kicked off with a Suzy Greenberg opener that set up the experimental, top-shelf (longest-ever at the time) Bathtub Gin.  The Rupp Gin was a masterpiece that showcased a multiverse of creativity capped with a warped OUTro that melted right into Hold Your Head Up.  After Bathtub Gin > HYHU, Fish emerged from behind his kit with his Electrolux vacuum for the only Bike of fall tour.  A monumental You Enjoy Myself ended set II and alluded to the Frankenstein encore which put the exclamation point on one of the great sets of fall ‘96.

11/7/96 was recorded by Paul Languedoc to digital multitrack and mixed and mastered by Jon Altschiller.  The show is available 3/7/16 via: the LivePhish+ App and as MP3, FLAC, and full-resolution FLAC-HD downloads at LivePhish.com.

Phish kicked off their fall 1999 tour in Vancouver, followed by a two-night stand at The Gorge and a Sunday show in Portland.  The tour then turned toward the Sawtooths for a Tuesday night show at Boise State University before continuing in California and beyond.  The BSU Pavilion was opened in 1982 as the Boise State Broncos’ basketball arena with a concert capacity of about 13,000.  Tickets for Phish cost $26.50 with a GA floor and reserved seating in the stands.  This was the band’s second show at this venue (they had opened summer 1995 there) and their last show to-date in Idaho.  Given the days off on both sides, the seven hour drive from Portland and the ten-plus hour drive to Shoreline for the next shows, many opted to skip this gig but those who took the trip were justly rewarded and those who didn’t will never forget it.

Boise’s Set I kicked off with Chalk Dust Torture and featured The Curtain > Waste, a dramatic sequence of Loving Cup > What’s The Use? and Wading In The Velvet Sea > Farmhouse, and a hot Taste.  The mostly non-stop set II began with the first Peaches en Regalia in more than two years, followed by an AC/DC Bag for the ages.  This Bag was a tour de force of multi-modal improvisation culminating in a psychedelic freakout so far Out that swirling vacuum ambiance was the only way to wrap it.  The Boise Bag spilled over into a standout Gumbo with a slow funk Another One Bites The Dust jam that cemented Boise’s snooze-you-lose status.  A frenetic Down With Disease > Frankenstein (with a nod to Pink Floyd) capped the set.  The encore was Simple with a live fade-out that gave the band time to move downstage for an A cappella Hello My Baby to close out a magical night at BSU.  Learn more here.

On June 26, 1995 Phish played their second headline show at Saratoga Performing Arts Center ("SPAC") - a modern amphitheater on the buccolic grounds of Saratoga Spa State Park in Saratoga Springs, NY.  SPAC '95 was the sixteenth show in a 22-show summer tour supporting Phish's first live record - the 2-CD set A Live One, released June 27th (the day after this show) on Elektra.  While A Live One was a compilation of Phish classics recorded in 1994, summer 1995 performances gravitated toward new material from a one-off show in Lowell that May and early summer-tour debuts destined for Billy Breathes.  SPAC '95 Tickets cost $20 and Phish drew a good crowd on a Monday night. The multi-track recorders that yielded the A Live One masters were rolling to capture the source tracks for this release.

SPAC '95 highlights included Don't You Want To Go? and Bathtub Gin, summer's only The Sloth, and a spacious Possum from a hot set I, as well as a nearly non-stop set II that combined the mind-blowing Down With Disease > Free (the 1st such pairing) with a spectacular Poor Heart > You Enjoy Myself and Strange Design > Run Like An Antelope.  This was a thriller of a show - demented, psychedelic, Summer Space Camp Phish at its best.  The music had a Led Zeppelin sub-plot with teases of Heartbreaker during Possum and Immigrant Song during You Enjoy Myself.

6/26/95 SPAC was recorded by Paul Languedoc to digital multitrack and mixed/mastered by Jon Altschiller.

In 1993, Phish was touring following the release of their fourth album Rift, and rapidly expanding into colleges and theaters as word spread about their renowned live performances. St. Louis '93 captures the band at two standout shows on consecutive tours at the 1,750-seat Beaux Arts style American Theatre.

The first of the two American Theatre shows was April 14, 1993 - dubbed the "Roger Proposal" show when Trey's old friend Roger Holloway decided to propose to his girlfriend Jennifer onstage. Trey and Roger conspired to make the proposal. Highlights of the April show included a creative Stash/Kung/Horse mash-up, Roger's Proposal to open set II (she said "Yes"!) followed by AC/DC Bag and My Sweet One for the newly-engaged couple, You Enjoy Myself > Spooky > You Enjoy Myself, and a dreamy Harpua > Runaway Jim. The encore was dedicated to Roger and Jen "on the road of life." Phish's second show at the American took place August 16, 1993 during the legendary summer '93 tour, which found the band taking exponentially bigger risks while exploring the outer limits of their repertoire. The August show kicked off with a non-stop sequence of Axilla > Possum > Horn > Reba > Sparkle. During I Didn't Know, Fish used Voodoo and his Madonna washboard in an attempt to push back the waters of the Great Flood of 1993. Unique interstitial jams connected many of the songs in set I and added an extra element of mystery. The St. Louis Reba was an improvisational masterpiece. Possum, Foam and Split Open And Melt were all superb as was the only Mike's Song > Faht > Weekapaug Groove combination ever played.

St. Louis '93 was recorded in stereo from the soundboard by Paul Languedoc and mastered by Fred Kevorkian.

On May 17, 1992 Phish played at Achilles Rink – the Union College hockey arena opened in 1975 with a capacity of about 2,500. Schenectady was the second-to-last date on a 53-show spring tour that hit 24 states and the District of Columbia with five shows in Colorado, six in California and seven in New York before wrapping up in the band’s hometown Burlington, Vermont.  Phish’s third studio album and Elektra debut, A Picture of Nectar , had dropped in February.  Fans benevolently plastered promo stickers depicting Nectar’s face from the album cover on toll booths and highway rest areas from coast to coast.  Spring ’92 featured the new Minkin Lexan backdrops, a big batch of new songs that would form the basis for Rift , and the band inviting the audience to share in the Secret Language.  Phish.net (and the Internet in general) was just starting to catch on, there was no official taper’s section yet, and word of mouth was key.  The Schenectady show – with a ticket price of $5 - was a prime example as it was not listed in the Phish newsletter or hotline.  It was a Sunday night, Page’s birthday, and the band was almost home after more than two months on the road.

Highlights of the Schenectady ’92 show included The Landlady > Llama opener, Stash, and Chalk Dust Torture from set I.  The Curtain > Possum kicked off set II with a concentrated barrage of Secret Language and teases of everything from Rocky Mountain Way to China Grove to It's Ice and Divided Sky during one of the all-time far-out Possums.  Brother went completely unhinged and led appropriately...perhaps inevitably to Sanity, before Fish took over vocal and vacuum duties for Syd Barrett’s Love You.  A standout Harry Hood rounded out set II and continued the show’s Outward thrust.  The Schenectady ’92 release includes filler selected from the tour-closing show the following night - 5/18/92 at The Flynn Theatre in Burlington.

5/17/92 Schenectady was recorded by Paul Languedoc to 2-track soundboard cassette and mastered by Fred Kevorkian.

Talk about bass. Go record shopping. Must be at one of the shows on the tour. Location and time to be determined.

Gordon sees OGOGO as a means of soaking his current life in and putting it back out again in the music. "Everything just came up serendipitously from writing the songs to finding the producer to finding the album title."

The album was produced by GRAMMY Award winning Shawn Everett. The producer has been behind the boards for a slew of critically-lauded releases—this year alone, Everett has done work on the new albums from The War on Drugs, Grizzly Bear, Broken Social Scene and Perfume Genius, among others. Everett had a big impact on the album's sound. "A lot of Shawn's stuff is experimental but not at the expense of the groove," Gordon says. "Every instrument and every voice was recorded in a way that I've never seen before."

Due to the severe flooding that occurred in Schuyler County over the past week, the local water treatment plant that services water to the Village of Watkins Glen, including the Curveball site has been contaminated and the water supply is not safe for human consumption. The New York State Department of Health has issued a statement here.

Sadly, Curveball has been cancelled.

Fans currently onsite are welcome to stay overnight; campgrounds will close at noon tomorrow.

Information on refunds will be forthcoming, and additional information will be posted as it becomes available.

A STATEMENT FROM PHISH

Dear friends, our Phish family..

The four of us are writing this from directly behind the stage at Watkins Glen. We were about to walk onstage only moments ago for our traditional soundcheck jam for Curveball when we were told the heartbreaking news that due to the unsafe water conditions in the Village of Watkins Glen, our beloved festival is being canceled.

We are still in shock. The entire site is already set up and ready to go after literally months of work by our beloved hardworking crew, many of whom have been here for weeks. Our families are here, our gear is set, our tents are up. We keep waiting for someone to come over and tell us that there is a solution, and that the festival can go on.  Unfortunately, it is not possible.

We are so terribly sorry for the inconvenience that this is causing so many of you. We hope from the bottoms of our hearts that at the very least this news will reach you before too much disruption takes place in your personal lives. We know that people traveled far, at great expense. We understand that people are missing work, and changing their schedules around.. we wish so much that there was some way that this wasn’t happening.

This summer has been absolutely joyous, with each gig building on the previous one, and we were all buzzing with excitement about Curveball. Please accept our deepest apologies for the disruption that this has caused all of you.. We wish there was something else we could say.

Thank you all from the depths of our souls for the joy that you continue to share with us every night. This has been the greatest summer we can remember.

Travel safe and know that we are as heartbroken as all of you. We are standing back here behind the stage, at our party that we’ve been planning for over a year, and we have just told that it won’t happen.  There’s just nothing we can do.

Thank you all for your understanding.

With Love,
Phish

Phish will perform three full sets this New Year’s Eve, LIVE from the Ninth Cube. The show will be performed without an audience and will be webcast for free with a simulcast on Phish Radio on SiriusXM. Phish will take the stage promptly at 8:30PM ET on December 31st.

The DAAM series has distributed nearly $900,000 in donations via the WaterWheel Foundation since the start of the pandemic to help non-profits around the country (and beyond). Our friends at SiriusXM have generously underwritten production costs to make this webcast free, and we are hoping to come together once again as a community to support those in need. The WaterWheel Foundation will be raising money for a handful of non-profits close to the Phish community. Donate at anytime now at https://phish.com/waterwheel.
