Kendall Street Company wants to make The Beatles a household name. That's why they have made it their mission to release one fun Beatles cover per year until they die. This year, following the success of last year's "Rocky Raccoon" release, the band decided to delve deeper into the Liverpoolian catalog with a psyched out diddy about "The Fool On The Hill." To make the song their own, the band jammed out the outro until it reached an intense swirly peak. It's really sick. If you love The Rolling Stones, The Who, or Led Zeppelin then you’ll LOVE this!

Virginia's Kendall Street Company are no strangers to having a wild time. The genre-fluid, eclectic rock ensemble has drawn varied comparisons to the dynamic jams of Umphrey's McGee and Widespread Panic, songwriting prowess of John Prine, experimental psychedelia of Pink Floyd, progressive jazz-infused rock of Frank Zappa, and off-color humor of Ween and They Might Be Giants. Including elements of crowd participation, off-the-cuff comedic bits, haphazard choreography, musical improvisation, and surprise musical guests, each Kendall Street Company concert is an experience unlike any other. You'll laugh, you'll cry. Just remember to stay hydrated.

In addition to their reputation as must-see live performers, the Company's prolific immunity to writer's block has led them to release over over 100 original songs between seven studio albums, two live albums, and four EPs in a period of just six years. 2023 will see the release of (at least) an additional two studio records, a handful of singles, and who knows what else! You can also enjoy a massive selection of live shows on nugs.net, which often include unreleased and improvised tracks, as well as covers ranging from the Grateful Dead to DEVO to Alanis Morisette to Soulja Boy.

Kendall Street Company is: Louis Smith [Rhythm Guitar/Lead Vox], Brian Roy [Bass], Ryan Wood [Drums], Ben Laderberg [Lead Guitar], and Jake Vanaman [Saxophone/Keys]. The five met at the University of Virginia, where they graduated between 2015 and 2020. For such a young band, their accomplishments are commendable. They have performed at festivals including Lockn', Summer Camp, High Sierra, Resonance, Floydfest, Some Kind of Jam, and Rooster Walk. Featured guest musicians at their sets have included Keller Williams, Ron Holloway, Andy Frasco, and Andy Hall. The Company has also shared the stage with Goose, Umphrey's McGee, Papadosio, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Leftover Salmon, the Infamous Stringdusters, Big Something and Melvin Seals & JGB. The outfit draws their name from late-night bonfires at the Kendall Street Beach on the Chesapeake Bay, and the good company who fueled the flames, the jams, and the conversation.

The Mitras kicked off the night. Saxophonist Charles Owens sat in with the band as did vocalist Ali Thibodeau of Deau Eyes.

Kendall Street Company (KSC) is excited to announce the release of their latest single, "Becca's Dad", the third release of 2023. The raucous new song is about a devoted father who never misses a rock show and is already being touted as "the new Stacy's Mom" by fans. The lyrics are based on actual events.

Featuring Andy Hall of The Infamous Stringdusters on a vibrant lap steel solo, "Becca's Dad" has a live band feel with studio quality sound and musical precision. With a sound reminiscent of Widespread Panic, the song is sure to get fans on their feet and dancing. Hall says about the song “What a pleasure it’s been to discover Kendall Street Company! Was stoked to get to play lapsteel on this absolutely rockin track they put together. Becca’s Dad is a fiery number.”

To accompany the release, KSC has also created a music video that perfectly captures the energy and spirit of the song. The video will be available to view in the near future on KSC's YouTube, website, and social pages.

"We're really excited to release this song," said Louis Smith, lead vocalist of KSC. "It's a fun, upbeat track that you can’t help but bob your head to. The groove is so tight. We're also thrilled to have Andy Hall of The Infamous Stringdusters playing on the tune. His solo is fire. Additionally we got one of my favorite keyboardists, Daniel Clarke, to play on the track. He absolutely slays the piano and organ on this one."

"Becca's Dad" is now available for streaming on all major platforms. For more information on Kendall Street Company and "Becca's Dad", please visit the band's website or follow them on social media.

Today, The Janutee have unveiled “Ishmael,” the second single off of their forthcoming record Anything coming out via Regime Music Group on July 14th. The release is accompanied by a stop-motion animated lyric video that can be viewed HERE.

The quirky, sing-a-long tune’s lyrics are based on author Daniel Quinn’s book, Ishmael, which is presented as a Socratic dialogue between a talking gorilla named Ishmael and an unnamed narrator. It challenges the notion that humans are exceptions to the laws of nature and entitled to exist above ideas and framework set for a sustainable planet. "The song speaks to the notion that we, as humans, are the “takers” and can only take so much before Mother Earth weeps," says drummer Scott Ferber.

Mirroring Quinn’s prose on the human condition, Anything, is The Jauntee’s most provocative and intellectual studio effort to date. Cultivated during the pandemic downtime, the band took their time meticulously crafting the album in their former rehearsal space in Longmont, Colorado, leaving ample room to explore overdubs and layers of vocal harmonies and percussion. In addition to polishing and refining every tune, Anything, will see the debut of six brand-new songs that have never been performed live, an element that the band is excited to present to their audience.

Comprised of Scott Ferber (drums & vocals), Caton Sollenberger (guitar & vocals), Tyler Adams (keyboards & vocals), and John Loland (bass), the band clocks in over one hundred shows a year and have earned a name for themselves to engage fans through nightly explorations in risk-taking and expansive setlists chock full of improvisational moments that embrace living in the element of the live performance setting. Like trailblazers of the scene who have imparted a culture of dedication and surprise, The Jauntee follow suit by garnering a fanbase who thoroughly analyze and passionately promote their music through word of mouth and grassroots efforts. Their dedication doesn’t go unnoticed as the band crafts every show as a well-rounded concoction of shared experiences, bust-outs, and refined improvisation giving their fans a reason to continue to come back and spread the word.

The band kicks off the summer with a run through the Pacific Northwest followed by appearances at Elevation Music Festival in Alma, CO, and sealing it in with an album release show at Cervantes’ Other Side in their current hometown of Denver, CO. Full dates can be found below:

5/18 - Nectar Lounge - Seattle, WA

Kendall Street Company, the dynamic and innovative music collective, is thrilled to announce the release of their second highly-anticipated single, "Tightrope," from their upcoming album, Separation95, set to be released in full on September 22nd, 2023. A foreboding and dystopian commentary on climate change and modern capitalism, “Tightrope” explores the darker, heavier side of the increasingly popular jam/alternative outfit, incorporating elements of psychedelic rock and stoner metal.

Showcasing the band’s versatility, bassist Brian Roy provides the lead vocals for the track, while lead singer Louis Smith plays the bass. “We were jamming one night in the basement, switching instruments and turns on the mic, and I pulled out a poem I had written a few months prior. It fit the dark, yet psychedelic nature of the music perfectly, and we immediately knew we had a new song,” said Roy. “Jake (Vanaman) added some amazing production and vocal processing to really bring the track together in the studio.”

Accompanying the single is a music video edited by Roy, featuring 16mm footage from the documentary short film “The Garbage Explosion” (1970). The video incorporates a non-narrative/montage style inspired by Godfrey Reggio and Philip Glass’ Koyaanisqatsi (1982), which itself explores the similar themes of societal growth and collapse that are present in the song’s lyrics.

“Tightrope” is now available for streaming on all major platforms. Stay tuned for a third single in the leadup to the release of Separation95 later this summer. For more information on Kendall Street Company and “Tightrope,” visit the band’s website or follow them on social media.

Kendall Street Company, the dynamic and innovative music collective, is thrilled to announce the release of their third highly-anticipated single, "Excusezmoi," from their upcoming album, Separation95, set to be released in full on September 22nd, 2023. The track incorporates elements of progressive jazz, dream pop, and psychedelia, displaying influence by artists such as Crumb, Hiatus Kaiyote, and The RH Factor.

The three singles from Separation95 are fairly unique on paper: “Eyes of the World” is a fusion reharmonization of the eponymous Grateful Dead hit, and “Tightrope” is a dystopian stoner rock track with original lyrics. “Excusemoi,” however, is an instrumental, save for a French-language audio sample which concludes the track. Kendall Street Company are no strangers to using spoken-word audio samples, having experimented with their use on their record The Year The Earth Stood Still (2021). Despite their differences, there is an unmistakable and cohesive sonic theme which unites the tracks and foreshadows an album that successfully uses the studio as its own instrument, from a group widely known for their energetic and improvisational live performances.

Accompanying the single is a music video filmed by Hourglass Sessions at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in Richmond, VA. The video incorporates psychedelic editing techniques, vibrant costumes, and colorful lighting which amplify the track’s sonic emotion.

“Excusezmoi” is now available for streaming on all major platforms. Separation95 will be released on September 22nd, 2023. For more information on Kendall Street Company and “Excusezmoi,” visit the band’s website or follow them on social media.

Separation95 is the newest LP from Kendall Street Company (KSC). The album follows the release of three singles over the summer with placements on Spotify’s Modern Jam Band and Prog Jazz playlists.

Separation95 continues KSC’s genre-defying mindset with a delve into the fusion, dark rock, and avant-garde. The eight-track album entrances listeners with improvisation, choir-sized vocals, sample-based storytelling, and larger-than-life instrumentation. Flutes, kalimbas, wine glasses, pill-bag shakers, guest vocals, congas, classical guitar… the list goes on of studio toys and magic involved. Thusly, a lush tale is woven of dance and destruction, discovery and disintegration.

Separation95 reaches its finale with “Trapeze”, the focus track of this release. Duetting electric guitars dance across the stereo field in mimicry of soaring trapeze artists. Soft, lush, warbly Rhodes and piano leave the beginning of the song vulnerable before building to the choir-sized climax at the end. Just as the record itself, this track is a story of redemption (and cheekiness).

Separation95 releases alongside a 20+ date fall tour including festivals, a bright red vinyl pressing, and our first custom rum batch with Richmond, VA distillery Virago Spirits.

Hailing from Long Beach, CA, Jakob Nowell today announces ‘Enter: The Castle’ - the debut record from his eclectic passion project, Jakobs Castle, due April 12th via Epitaph Records. Born into music royalty as the son of the late legendary Sublime frontman Bradley Nowell, there is no denying that his father’s legacy has played a role in shaping the young artist’s journey. On a personal quest to “mix California's past with the fresh mystery of internet underground culture,” Jakobs Castle introduces a refreshing, cutting-edge sound that carries the keen sense of melody that endeared his father’s music to millions worldwide.

Layering psychedelic guitars and charismatic vocals, Jakobs Castle releases the alluring lead single and music video “Catch Me,” one of his favorite songs he's ever written. Jakob explains, “The way the reverb sounds on the chorus vocals is so satisfying to me. And the way it rises and falls just hits the sweet spot in my brain.” The beachy production video features Nowell buried up to his neck in sand. Check it out below:

If Jakobs Castle were a physical place, it would exist in a present that's also rooted in history—exactly how Jakob Nowell approached the 14 songs that make up ‘Enter: The Castle.’ Instead of a nostalgic rehash, the project represents an unfiltered version of Jakob’s own sonic identity. Spinning elements of ska-punk, alternative rock, and electropop paired with emphatic power pop melodies, he is forging his own musical destiny in a way that’s relevant to today's generation of listeners.

With the assistance of producer and co-collaborator Jon Joseph (Børns, Caroline Rose), who Jakob credits for helping unearth this new sound, the album's cohesiveness is partly due to its futuristic, synth-laden production, or what Jakob describes as “affected cyber ska weirdness.” Though it may not feature palm-muted guitars or pick slides, in many ways, ‘Enter: The Castle’ is a modern interpretation of punk. Drawing parallels to Sublime, who organically incorporated principles of reggae and pop into their sound in the nineties, Jakob credits acts like 100 gecs as the next generation of artists to carry on that tradition of creativity while still building on musical motifs universal to listeners across genres.

“I see the spirit of punk to be alive in what people today call hyper pop or bedroom pop, even if it’s not always aggressive,” muses Nowell. “I find that spirit of DIY ingenuity and challenging social norms to be present in those types of artists today.”

In addition to his father’s influence on his musical journey, Jakob has also been an active part of his family’s nonprofit, inspired by Bradley’s untimely passing. The Nowell Family Foundation offers addiction recovery services to the music community, combining the strength of the industry with those touched by the power of music. After undergoing treatment himself for opioid addiction, Jakob expanded the Foundation to include Bradley’s House: a residential recovery facility providing treatment for people in the music industry with opioid addiction, regardless of their financial situation. Phase 1—a transitional sober living—opened on December 1, 2023, in Southern California.

Today, Kendall Street Company, the rising stars of the jam band scene, are thrilled to release their latest single, "Snow Day." This heartwarming track captures the nostalgia of eagerly anticipating snow that never materializes. Thankfully, we are saved by the spontaneous warmth of a neighbor who decides to throw a snow day party anyway!

Highlighted by an extraordinary banjo feature from Andy Thorn of Leftover Salmon, "Snow Day" promises to resonate with fans of Billy Strings, Old Crow Medicine Show, The Wood Brothers, and String Cheese Incident. Because everybody needs a snow day!"

On the heels of announcing a 19-date tour with Frank Turner, acclaimed singer/songwriter Amigo the Devil today released “Once Upon a Time at Texaco (pt. 1),” the third single from the forthcoming studio album Yours Until the War is Over, set to release Feb. 23, 2024 via Liars Club Records.

Echoing the timbre of a raucous bar chant, “Once Upon a Time at Texaco (pt. 1)” tells a Coen brothers-esque narrative of an unhinged robbery gone wrong. Leave it to Amigo the Devil to weave a cohesive story with Cher lyrics, magician jokes and murder while referencing traditional comedic and tragic philosophies.

I’m guessing that you all feel like a hostage

But I’m sure it feels nice to be held

Danny Kiranos said of his songwriting process: “When I write stories, I usually visualize the scenery and atmosphere of it before analyzing the words or circumstances. Most of those initial instincts with color and temperament directly relate to how the concept of the physical music that’s written up to that point makes me feel. I remember the initial lead banjo line was the first part written and I kept thinking that it was genuinely fun but dry and completely unpredictable. None of that has to make sense in that moment, just that it has to be accepted for what it is. After that part is dialed, the story writes itself if you let it. I think the end result is incredibly indicative of those initial reactions within.”

“Once Upon a Time at Texaco (pt. 1)” was leaked to fans early when Amigo the Devil shared a ridiculous commercial for his previous single “The Mechanic,” where Kiranos plays a washed up mechanic who directs viewers to a phone number for help. Those who picked up on the Easter Egg rang a phone in Danny’s possession with a voicemail that directed folks to a secret lyric video for “Once Upon a Time at Texaco (pt. 1)” prior to the song’s release. Watch HERE.

Recorded in a basement bar-turned-studio in the middle of Tennessee, Yours Until the War is Over is the first studio album by Amigo the Devil that was entirely produced, recorded and engineered in-house. The album title is a reference to Ernest Hemmingway’s entanglement with Agnes von Kurowsky, who would sign love letters to him during WWII as “yours until the war is over.” Conjured from the mood of handwritten desires, songs thread together thought-provoking tales of trauma bonding.

These new songs by Amigo the Devil are unconventional in their approach to songwriting. Consequence praised the album’s lead single “Cannibal Within” for its “sparse banjo, haunted clink-clank percussion, and gripping poeticism" and said that “The Mechanic" encapsulates what makes Amigo the Devil’s songwriting special: “folk-shaped melodies supporting plainspoken lyrics that face truth squarely, without pathos.”

Kendall Street Company, the rising force in the modern jam band scene, is thrilled to announce the release of their latest single, "I Am The Wheel (It Could Happen to You)." The track, an exploration of transformation and unexpected perspectives, is the second installment in the band's ambitious 12-month single release campaign. The song describes being the wheel, the ox, the driver, and the earth, and it urges listeners to contemplate what they really are… and what they are becoming.

Louis Smith reflects on the genesis of the track: "My brother, Max, and I started writing this tune on a family road trip, driving south on 95. We saw the giant wheels on a semi truck flying by and imagined that we were the wheel. We imagined what it would feel like to be the wheel. I thought about physics class in college. And then the wheel morphed into the ox, and the rest was history!"

The musical tapestry of "I Am The Wheel" features a fusion reminiscent of Tenacious D and Trey Anastasio Band, making it a standout addition to the Modern Jam Band Genre. The collaborative effort showcases the talent of Kendall Street Company's lineup, with Louis Smith on Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, and Vox; Brian Roy on Bass and Vox; Ryan Wood on Drums; Jake Vanaman on Organ, Saxophones, and Vox; Ben Laderberg on Lead Electric Guitar; and special guest Jonathan Watson on Trombone.

The production prowess behind the single is attributed to the skilled hands of Jake Vanaman (Engineering), Zach Staas (Mixing), and Justin Perkins (Mastering). The lyrics, a joint effort by Louis Smith and Maxwell Brighton-Smith, provide depth to a captivating narrative that is truly unique to itself.

Kendall Street Company is ON TOUR NOW and invites music enthusiasts to join them as they roll out a new single each month, promising a diverse and engaging musical experience. "I Am The Wheel (It Could Happen to You)" is now available on all major streaming platforms.

World champion surfer and Hawaiian musician Makua Rothman today releases his new single “HOOKED” via Regime Music Group. The rhythmic song layers lyrics of self destruction and redemption over an easy island ambiance courtesy of Sister Nancy’s legendary backing track, “Bam Bam.” Listen HERE.

“I wrote this song while thinking of trials and tribulations that I’ve overcome in my life. I’ve been through the depths, through dark places in life and now I’m here back in the light,” Rothman explains, using the woman in the song as a creative foil to mirror his own experiences. “It’s a song about humans making mistakes – bad habits or a relationship you need to cut out of your life, but they’re so hard to kick. It’s a song from my heart, from a time when I wasn’t making the best choices. But ultimately, it’s about overcoming those vices and staying the course for a better day.”

Co-written by Rothman and Nick Bailey and produced by Jimmy Messer, “HOOKED” was created at Kona Town Studio – Pepper singer and bassist Bret Bolinger’s studio in Redondo Beach, California. His beach-punk flow intertwines with one of the most recognizable samples in reggae music to create an immaculate vibe on the new single.

“There’s no other song that makes you feel the way ‘Bam Bam’ does,” he adds. “That Sister Nancy track is so legendary, it’s a staple in the reggae world, and mashed up perfectly with the song we were creating. I’m really grateful that we were able to tap into that feeling, even though the lyrics call back to a darker time.”

The release of “HOOKED” comes one year after Rothman suffered a devastating injury that threatened to end his professional surfing career. He turned to the healing power of music during his recovery, and emerged with songs like “HOOKED” and his previous single “The One And Only” from a forthcoming sophomore album. Rothman's new collection of releases follows up his critically acclaimed album, Sound Wave.

Born on the iconic North Shore of Oahu, Rothman made a name for himself as a professional surfer known to take on some of the biggest and most dangerous breaks on the planet. He cemented his status alongside the world’s greatest surfers by winning the 2015 World Surf League (WSL) Big Wave Championship. And in 2018, made national headlines after surviving a violent wipeout while attempting to ride one of the biggest waves in Fiji’s history. The stunt landed him in national headlines, with press coverage from TMZ, NBC News, iHeartRadio and many others.

Now one year removed from the knee injury that upended his athletic career, Rothman comes full circle with the release of “HOOKED.”

In his network television debut, Rothman will return to the notorious North Shore waves as a recurring character in Fox’s forthcoming drama series, “Rescue: Hi Surf." He is currently filming in his native O'ahu between concert dates and the pro surf circuit. A book about Rothman’s life is planned to release in 2024 as well.

Kendall Street Company, the dynamic and innovative music collective, is thrilled to announce the release of their latest single, “El Perro Triste,” as the September installment in their ambitious monthly single release campaign of 2024.

Following their release of hard rock tracks “Porridge” and “Marijuana Timewarp” over the past two months, “El Perro Triste” marks a departure from heavy alternative jams and into the world of latin psychedelia. It tells the story of an unfortunately sad, yet hopeful dog (or perhaps human, as the tense and speaker change between verses) who smokes too much and too often. A long-build psychedelic jam features piano, trumpet, and electric guitar.

Bassist Brian Roy is the featured lead vocalist on “El Perro Triste,” which is written entirely in Spanish. “Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of Juana Molina, Banda Magda, and Monstruos del Mañana,” said Roy. “The Latin psychedelic rock scene is alive and well, and it’s influenced both myself and the rest of the band greatly. We actually started writing this track back in 2020 during the peak of the pandemic and shelved it for a while, as it didn’t quite fit on any projects we had in the works at that time. We had a fantastic time working with our frequent collaborators and good friends Price Gillock on the piano and Ryan Calonder (of Disco Risque) on the trumpet. It’s particularly fun to write lyrics in Spanish, as I’m not a native speaker, which I think can help prevent overthinking and nitpicking during the songwriting process. That’s how ABBA churned out so many hits in English. I learned Spanish as an adult, studying in Costa Rica. It’s a beautiful place! My mother speaks fluently as well, so that’s always good practice.”

“El Perro Triste” will be available for streaming on all major platforms starting September 27, 2024. Fans can look forward to monthly releases every final Friday as part of KSC’s 2024 Singles Project. In November, New Orleans-based guitarist and vocalist Steve Kelly announced his 8-track debut solo album Here’s The Thing available on February 21, 2025 via Regime Music Group. Coined as “Americana Soul,” Kelly’s songwriting navigates the complexities of life’s cycles, candid struggles with mental health; the perils and pitfalls of substance abuse and addiction, and the peaks and valleys of personal relationships, ultimately delivering a message of hope and perseverance. Today, Kelly has released the third single “Hold On For Dear Life,” emerging from a hopeful, personal space delivering a message of believing in what you’re fighting for and bracing yourself for the ride. Listen to “Hold On For Dear Life” HERE.

As with all songs on the 8-track collection that explore the peaks and valleys of life and love, “Hold On For Dear Life” speaks to the uncertainty of trying to love after being hurt and the strength and value of perseverance you face in the struggle. Kelly urges listeners against succumbing to fears and doubts as they’ll sabotage your happiness. Instead, if you hold on long enough, you’ll see that what’s waiting for you on the other side can be the greatest thing you’ve ever experienced. “It’s a song about giving people hope and a reason to keep believing in what they’re fighting for,” says Kelly, “The things worth fighting for are what matter the most.”

Reflecting further on redemption after bad timing and addiction, Kelly steps back and takes stock of love, understanding, compassion, and patience making the world go around, whether it is in a relationship or the curveballs that life can throw, despite pockets of self-loathing and questioning trust.

“When you’ve been burned before, you can really question your judgement and wonder how much of the situation you find yourself in is your fault,” he laments, “It’s hard to trust which way forward is the right way and which choice is the best for you to make because the future is rarely clear and is usually impossible to predict. At the end of the day, if you hold on for dear life, you’ll find that most things work out in the way they’re supposed to, so just keep the faith and trust in yourself and everything will be OK.”

Chock full of dark, heavy guitars and a stadium rock chorus, Kelly collaborated with Bill Daniel of Naughty Professor to cultivate “Hold On For Dear Life.” The mid-tempo rocker features dueling slide guitar lines and is rounded out by Sam Shahin & Noah Young (Naughty Professor), Sam Kuslan (Slugger),Andriu Yanovski (The Rumble, Boogie T.Rio), Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph (Galactic, Tank & The Bangas), Josh Kagler (Galactic, Irma Thomas), Robert Mercurio (Galactic).

Here’s The Thing was produced by Kelly’s longtime collaborator and friend, Robert Mercurio of Galactic. Musicians on Here’s The Thing include Kevin Scott (Govt. Mule), Isaac Eady (Tedeschi Trucks Band), Stanton Moore & Robert Mercurio (Galactic), Gabrielle Cavassa (Joshua Redman), Andriu Yanovski (The Rumble, Boogie T.Rio), Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph (Galactic, Tank & The Bangas), Josh Kagler (Galactic, Irma Thomas), Noah Young (Naughty Professor), Nick Ellman (Naughty Professor, Maroon 5), Sam Kuslan (Slugger), Andrew Block (Gramatik), Scott Graves (J. & The Causeways), Kelly Pratt (David Byrne & St. Vincent, Father John Misty, Arcade Fire) and more.

On working with Mercurio, Kelly reflects on his influence throughout the whole process, “There’s just not enough time in the day for me to describe how influential Rob has been on this whole process.  I’ve learned so much from him it’s unreal, both in and out of the control room. He’s got a brilliant way of not forcing the creative process but allowing it to grow and build on its own, but also maintaining a very disciplined approach to the craft side of things and knowing how to bridge that gap wonderfully. He’s got an almost supernatural ability to articulate difficult or touchy subjects in a way that immediately endears himself to the person on the receiving end.  He can make you understand that your idea could be better, without making you feel like your idea was ever bad.  In addition to being a brilliant producer and bassist, he is an absolute masterclass on the benefits of killing your own ego and following the best ideas regardless of whose they might be. I really just can’t say enough about the impact he’s had on my creative journey. I owe him so much.”

Although not intentionally crafted as a concept album, Here’s The Thing, vividly depicts a relatable journey distilled through eight individual stories that recount the complexities of love; life’s trials and tribulations; and the empowerment to transform your own life fearlessly, no matter how many times you have to pivot—it’s a testament to the human experience.

“This album captures the ups and downs & ins and outs of real life - from joy to heartache, confusion to confidence, loneliness and isolation to coming together with someone else to make something new and grow in ways you never knew possible. Refusing to give up despite the odds when you know in your heart that you’re right, and knowing that we all feel these things from time to time—it’s what unites us as humans."

Here’s The Thing is now available for pre-order on vinyl, CD, and a combined bundle HERE.

ABOUT STEVE KELLY

New Orleans-based singer-songwriter-instrumentalist Steve Kelly is a true lover of his adopted home, calling it “the greatest city the world has ever known or will ever know.”

A fixture on the local scene, where he’s a regular at clubs like Tipitina’s, the Maple Leaf and Le Bon Temps Roule, Kelly’s debut solo album, Here’s the Thing, is more Memphis soul, with its Al Green gospel vocals, gurgling B3 organ and R&B horns, than New Orleans funk, his adopted hometown’s spirit is all over this music.

Co-produced by Kelly with Robert Mercurio of long-running New Orleans band Galactic (now owner of the famed Tipitina’s venue), Here’s the Thing is named after one of his pet phrases, as well as a lyric in the bridge of “St. Jude,” the third track on the record. Inspired by a love affair, the album offers an introduction to a musician who put in the work and waited until the time was right to launch his solo career after establishing his reputation for more than a decade with local group Gravy.

Songs like the breezy, rhythmic island feel of “St. Jude” and the jaunty break-up track, “Loretta,” a swaggering blues plaint reminiscent of The Band boasting a lyrical nod to the Rolling Stones’ “Tumbling Dice,” are the best examples of this approach.  The thumping drums and bass punctuated by the funky horns of “How Are We Here Again” juxtapose nicely with the wailing guitar and “take it to the church” gospel strains of “Maybe,” while the shimmering, dreamy reimagining of Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon” (meets “Astral Weeks”), complete with lush orchestration (arranged by Rick Nelson) featuring a nine-piece string section and a ghostly clarinet by Nick Ellman, represent another direction entirely. Among the songs added to the original five tracks for the final album are “Always Been You” and “Hang on for Dear Life,” both of which offer inside looks at the forces of true romance from the inside-out, making for a personal statement set to a universal Americana sound.

Kendall Street Company (KSC) continues their lifelong quest to make The Beatles a household name following the massive success of 2021’s “Rocky Raccoon” and 2023’s “The Fool On The Hill.” From guitarist Ben Laderberg: “I wish more people knew about this awesome band. Even though we have recorded over a hundred original songs in our ten year tenure as a consistently touring national jam band, we still like to support the up and coming acts by covering their songs. Now, do us a favor, and give it a spin ;),”

This year, the band pays tribute to “The Cute Beatle,” Sir Paul McCartney and his wonderful group Wings with a modern psyched-up version of “Let ‘Em In.” Having roadtested the tune over the past few years, the band decided they could make this tune their own in the studio with added soaring slide guitar lines, heavier drums and bass, darker sax tones, and lead singer Louis Smith’s sweet vocal timbre.

This release coincides with the band’s 4th annual Lovers tour with 20 shows throughout February in their home state of Virginia.

Kendall Street Company continues their singles streak with the release of Dust Mites (Tumble Down) today. The tune was written in the carpeted basement of the “band house," which was badly in need of a vacuum cleaning. The vacuum was broken, but the band’s instruments were in perfect working order. Procrastination can be a wonderful artistic tool. The dualing lyrical content and vocals were composed spontaneously, simultaneously by Brian Roy (bass) and Jake Vanaman (saxophone, keys). Don't worry, a new vacuum was ordered to make sure the band members remain COPD-free.

Despite being a new recording and release, the song has been an occasional feature of the band's live sets over the past few years. Its composition and structure developed over time, often with small changes beginning as on-stage improvisation. Sprinkle in a touch of "studio magic" (including a backwards vocal sample which may or may not include a dig aimed at a certain newspaper-owning billionaire) and the track was ready to release. The harmonized saxophone line is reminiscent of early King Crimson, and further inspiration is drawn from artists like Funkadelic and Les Claypool.

Kendall Street Company is proud to release radio and television’s pop-country number-one hit of the summer, “Some Kind of Party (In Here).” Inspired by artists like Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, Keith Urban, Taylor Swift, and Beyoncé, the band explores their love for country music with their next two singles. A full album is expected in the fall. This song is about enjoying life's simple pleasures like cold beer, pickup trucks, disc golf, and fishing. You will love it.

Here’s what guitarist Ben Laderberg has to say:

“It’s quite obvious we love Phish, The Grateful Dead, The Beatles. But what the general public doesn’t know is that we also have a healthy respect for the schmaltzy theater production of the modern pop-country greats. So as we were listening to the radio in Charleston, South Carolina, we thought, ‘They’re only playing three chords, it’s catchy, and a lot of people love it… so why can’t we dip our toes in this massive enterprise?’ On stage these country-pop artists are basically cosplaying and having fun with their gaudy outfits and silly lyrics about beer and pickup trucks. How different is that from the jam-band world that has nurtured us for the past ten years? Instead of tie-dye, Birkenstocks, and incense, it is cowboy hats, blue jeans, and bolo ties. Fans, regardless of genre, want to get in the zone and escape from their daily routines for the night. We hope our fans who are into all of our songs about ephemeral love, sea creatures, foodstuffs, Daddios, and outer space can see this pop-country phase as part of our general philosophy of exploration and play rather than a total departure from who we are.

“As for the specific origins of the chorus, I was installing a bidet at my neighbor’s house when their five-year-old walked in and exclaimed, ‘Wow, it’s some kind of party in here!’ It quickly entered my scatterbrained notes app to be scavenged for another day. Fast-forward to St. Augustine, Florida, last year for a show at JJ Grey’s Blackwater Sol Revue. The band had some off time at the beach and brought a mini Yamaha guitar to work on the tune. It basically started as a list of country tropes, and the full story developed into what it is now.”

Kendall Street Company has also released the official music video for their latest single, “Some Kind of Party (In Here),” and, true to the name, it’s a wild ride.

To capture the energy of the song, the band threw an actual party — and invited fans to be part of the experience. Tickets were sold through the band’s website for a secret-location show, with one key instruction: come dressed in cowboy attire. What followed was an unforgettable night of music, dancing, hot dogs, and beer-fueled fun, all captured through the lens of Richmond videographer Aspen DeRosa.

Fans who showed up were treated to two high-octane sets from Kendall Street Company, cartwheel competitions, Miley Cyrus-style lip-syncing, and an all-around good time that perfectly mirrors the upbeat, infectious vibe of the new single.

“It felt like everyone in that room knew they were part of something special,” said the band. “We wanted to throw a party — and film it — and it turned into one of the most fun nights we’ve ever had.”

The “Some Kind of Party (In Here)” music video is now live on YouTube and streaming across all platforms.
