Brooklyn based, female fronted rock band, Lizzie and the Makers is an exhilarating band with a sweet and soulful psychedelic sound. The band recently supported Reeves Gabrels, known for performing with David Bowie and The Cure, at New York City’s The Cutting Room this past July.

They play for the love of music and the love for their community.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and Garcia’s is calling upon the community to show support to a great cause.

About Garcia’s at The Capitol Theatre:

In partnership with the family of Jerry Garcia, The Capitol Theatre christened its adjoining venue as Garcia’s in honor of the late Grateful Dead guitarist and singer, Jerry Garcia, who counted the Port Chester, NY rock palace among his favorite venues in the country. The exclusive club features craft beers, wine and spirits by local producers. With a focus on community and a taste for musical exploration, Garcia’s hosts local and national bands weekly.

About The Capitol Theatre:

Designed by celebrated architect Thomas Lamb in 1926 and listed in The National Register of Historic Places, the Capitol is located 30 miles from NYC, accessible by I-95 and only one block from the Port Chester Metro North train station. The 2,000- capacity theater, known as “the original rock palace,’ showcased rock legends such as Black Sabbath, Chuck Berry, David Bowie, Derek and the Dominos, Janis Joplin, Pink Floyd, and The Rolling Stones. Jerry Garcia once called it his favorite venue, claiming “See, there’s only two theaters, man… that are set up pretty groovy all around for music and for smooth stage changes, good lighting and all that – the Fillmore and The Capitol Theatre.

And those are the only two in the whole country.”

In 2012, the Capitol Theatre underwent a transformative renovation under the guidance of entrepreneur Peter Shapiro (Brooklyn Bowl, Lockn' Festival, the "Fare Thee Well" Grateful Dead 50th Anniversary stadium shows, music magazine Relix, FANS). Since then, The Capitol has hosted many of music’s most prominent performers including Bob Dylan, Phil Lesh, Ringo Starr, Ryan Adams, Skrillex, Snoop Dogg, The Strokes, Tom Petty, Willie Nelson, and many more. The Capitol has also welcomed comedians like Kevin Hart and Amy Schumer. The New York Times raves: “A rock theater that looks and sounds as good as the Capitol is something to celebrate." Billboard agrees: “The lavishly decorated theater -- filled with mirrors, chandeliers and painstakingly restored detail -- looks absolutely stunning, and sounds even better."

For guitar aficionados, Steve Morse needs no introduction, and his place in the pantheon of guitar greats is certain. But in fact, his career started with the Dixie Dregs. And now beginning March 2018, with much anticipation and in response to demand from devoted fans, the original lineup announces a return to live performance for the Dawn of the Dregs Tour!

The band traces its true beginnings to the band Dixie Grit, which started in a Georgia high school with Steve on guitar and Andy West on bass. Dixie Grit morphed into the Dixie Dregs at the University of Miami School of Music, where Allen Sloan (violin) and Rod Morgenstein (drums) joined up with Steve and Andy, who were the “dregs” of Dixie Grit.

The members of the Dixie Dregs remained committed to attending the University of Miami School of Music, which hosted a lively and talented musical community during their tenure, including future greats Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius, T Lavitz, and Bruce Hornsby, among many others. In 1975, the group's demo album, The Great Spectacular, was recorded at the University of Miami and then re-released on CD in 1997.

After graduation, the band moved back to Augusta where Steve Davidowski (keyboards) completed the band that would eventually emerge and become known simply as The Dregs. The band paid its dues and honed its skills playing in bars and venues throughout the South in the mid-70's. They established themselves in the firmament of American instrumental music, seamlessly fusing rock with progressive and jazz elements to create a uniquely instrumental-driven style that has stood the test of time.

Based on a short demo and a tip from former Allman Brothers keyboardist Chuck Leavell along with Allman/Dregs tour manager Twiggs Lyndon, Capricorn Records signed the Dixie Dregs to record Free Fall (1977). The success and critical acclaim of Free Fall announced the Dixie Dregs to the world, and after its release, they would became a cult favorite band that would have a lasting influence on much of modern rock.

Over the course of 40 years, the Dixie Dregs have released eleven commercial albums of original material, and a number of compilations, reissues, and countless live bootlegs also exist. Along the way they have garnered six (!) Grammy nominations. The band has played with several well-known additional alumni and guests -- among others, Jerry Goodman (Mahavishnu Orchestra) Alex Ligertwood (Santana) and Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater) -- and its original band members have played and recorded on well over 300 releases (including Deep Purple (Steve Morse) and Winger/Jelly Jam (Rod Morgenstein)). The Dawn of the Dregs tour is coming soon to a city near you!

Fire up the home entertainment system and call your buds because the ultimate stoner comedy is celebrating its 40th anniversary.  The high-larious cannabis cultural epic  breakthrough UP IN SMOKE will “… grab you by the poo poo” all over again when it arrives on Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD April 10, 2018 from Paramount Home Media Distribution.  A special Deluxe Collector’s Edition, pairing the Blu-ray with the original soundtrack on CD and VINYL LP in deluxe packaging, will arrive the following week on 4/20 from Rhino, featuring a newly recorded “2018 version” of the title song “Up In Smoke.”

In 1978, Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong made their feature film debut in UP IN SMOKE, the outrageously funny classic inspired by their now legendary comedy routines of the early ‘70s.  Following massive success with over 10 million comedy albums sold, four Grammy nominations and a win for Best Comedy Recording for “Los Cochinos,” Cheech and Chong took Hollywood by storm when UP IN SMOKE became a smash hit, establishing the pair as the reigning comedy duo of a new generation.  Today, the film still has viewers rolling in the aisles and maintains surprising cultural relevance four decades after its original release.

“The greatest thrill is making your first movie and this one has been seen and been influential all over the world for over forty years,” said Richard “Cheech” Marin.   “Up in Smoke started stoner movies and is still going strong so smoke it up one more time.”

“Where did the time go? 40 years ago we made low budget movies that grossed over 100 million and are still being watched all over the world! And it also helped legalize an important medicine,” said Thomas Chong.  “I am so proud that a movie bearing a title of a simple song I wrote would be so influential for so many years.”

In UP IN SMOKE Cheech and Chong play wannabe musicians and stoners who unwittingly smuggle a van made of marijuana from Mexico to L.A.  Their drug-laced humor keeps their spirits high as they unknowingly elude the police and meander their way to an outrageous finale at the Roxy Theatre in Hollywood where Cheech performs in a pink tutu and Chong plays drums in a red body suit with a Quaalude logo.

The UP IN SMOKE Blu-ray Combo Pack features a brand new short-form documentary entitled “How Pedro Met the Man: Up In Smoke at 40,” which chronicles the duo’s comedy history, as well as the origins and impact of the film itself. Capturing a complex and fascinating pop culture odyssey, the documentary incorporates new interviews with Cheech Marin, Tommy Chong and producer/director Lou Adler along with archival footage.  The Combo Pack is also loaded with previously released bonus material including deleted scenes, commentary, a music video and more.

The UP IN SMOKE Deluxe Collector’s Edition is presented in a 12x12 package, limited to 5,000 copies. The set pairs the Blu-ray with the original soundtrack on CD and VINYL LP, as well as a 7-inch picture disc, oversized “Up In Smoke” rolling papers, a film poster, and booklet with new essays by both Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong, along with rare and unseen photos. In addition to the new version of “Up In Smoke,” the CD also features another previously unreleased version of the song from 1978 with an additional Spanish verse by Cheech.

Guitarist Tom Hamilton (Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Ghost Light) and pianist Holly Bowling (Ghost Light) will delve into the legendary catalogue of the Grateful Dead at Port Chester’s The Capitol Theatre on Friday, June 1. Ushering in a new level of intimacy, Hamilton and Bowling will utilize acoustic instruments to explore the vast realms of the Dead’s music.

Between playing in the most popular Grateful Dead tribute acts of the past decade as well as working alongside the likes of “core four” of the Grateful Dead, Tom Hamilton has been a huge proponent in modernizing the catalogue of the Grateful Dead for new audiences to enjoy.

Bowling, a classically-trained pianist since the age of 5, is no stranger to the jam scene, having been to over 300 Phish shows and transcribed the 37-minute improvisational masterpiece of the “Tahoe Tweezer” note-for-note on the piano. She has since played with numerous pantheons in the jam world including the Grateful Dead’s Phil Lesh and Bob Weir. This will be her debut performance at The Capitol Theatre.

Tickets for Acoustic Explorations of the Grateful Dead – Tom Hamilton & Holly Bowling are on sale and start at $25. Tickets can be purchased by calling Ticketfly at (877) 987-6487, ordering online at www.thecapitoltheatre.com, or visiting The Capitol Theatre Box Office at 149 Westchester Avenue, Port Chester, New York Monday through Thursday from 2:00PM-6:00PM or Friday and Saturday from 12:00PM-6:00PM.

Westchester’s own Stella Blue’s Band will celebrate 5 years of honoring the music of the Grateful Dead with a special anniversary performance at Garcia’s on Friday, June 8.

Members of Stella Blue’s Band graced the Garcia’s stage on June 5, 2013 in what would begin a 5 year, over 50 show-plus history with the Garcia’s and Capitol Theatre family. What was first a Grateful Dead tribute act has quickly become the crown gem of Garcia’s, keeping the music of the Grateful Dead alive for the next generation of fans.

“[It] seems like Stella and Garcia's have grown up together except it seems like we're both waiting for the grown-ups to show up and ask us what exactly we're doing in their living room and ‘what is that strange music you're playing?’” says guitarist Steve Liesman.

Having played The Capitol Theatre stage with Phil Lesh, founding bassist for the Grateful Dead, and Melvin Seals of the Jerry Garcia Band, Stella Blue’s Band has helped ensure Port Chester’s place as the East Coast mecca of the Dead. Jonathan Demme’s classic 1984 concert and art film, Stop Making Sense, will be recreated for one-night-only at Westchester, New York’s The Capitol Theatre on Friday, December 28. Considered by fans and critics alike to be an artistic masterpiece, the live concert film, featuring the legendary big suit and Talking Heads classics such as "Psycho Killer," "Burning Down the House," "Life During Wartime," and many more, won the award for Best Documentary at the National Society of Film Critics Awards in 1985.

Start Making Sense, a Bethlehem, Pennsylvania native band, known for their authentic recreations of Talking Heads’ music, originated as a part-time passion project, but since then it has blossomed into a nationwide phenomenon. Start Making Sense has been known to dig deep into the Talking Head's repertoire and explore the inner workings that made David Byrne and company so revolutionary.

The band has stated, "We don't really have plans to do this recreation very often as it is a very large production. So whenever the situation arises and the stars align we'll do our best to make it happen." Presented by Rocks Off and The Capitol Theatre, Start Making Sense will attempt to recreate Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense at The Capitol Theatre on Friday, December 28.

Tickets for Start Making Sense are on sale and start at $29.75. About The Capitol Theatre:

Designed by celebrated architect Thomas Lamb in 1926 and listed in The National Register of Historic Places, the theatre is located approximately 30 miles from NYC, conveniently accessible by I-95 and only one block from the Port Chester Metro North train station. Celebrating its 90th anniversary, the 1,835-capacity theatre has hosted concerts by the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Derek and the Dominos, Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead, David Bowie, Santana, Black Sabbath, Iggy Pop, and many more. Following a transformative renovation under the guidance of entrepreneur Peter Shapiro (three Brooklyn Bowls, theLockn' Festival, the "Fare Thee Well" Grateful Dead stadium shows, music magazine Relix, FANS), the theatre reopened as a rock palace on Sep 4, 2012, with a performance by Bob Dylan and has since hosted everyone from Al Green and My Morning Jacket to Sleigh Bells and Morrissey. The New York Times raved, "a rock theater that looks and sounds as good as the Capitol is something to celebrate," while Billboard agreed that "the lavishly decorated theater -- filled with mirrors, chandeliers and painstakingly restored detail -- looks absolutely stunning, and sounds even better."

For decades the late Jerry Garcia enchanted millions with his music and as lead guitarist for the Grateful Dead. Jerry Garcia was also a prolific visual artist and painter, creating countless works over the years, but many of his works have been inaccessible to the public for decades or never before presented.

StraxArt™ has created a masterpiece collection for thousands to embrace and enjoy while reflecting back on the memory, love, and magic of Jerry’s music and now his artwork. Fans who attend the event will be able to view and purchase the licensed official fine art prints of Jerry Garcia, in one of the largest public exhibit collections of Jerry Garcia artworks ever assembled. StraxArt™ was granted access to Jerry Garcia’s original artworks by members of the Garcia family, and will also present several works never before seen by the public at the exclusive event.

"In sharing his artwork, I get to share what his mind was like off of the stage; the kind of things he'd like to do to keep his hands busy. I feel like artwork kept his mind challenged and stimulated," said Trixie Garcia, "So I partnered with these guys so we can get his entire life's work online for people to look at and examine."

In an exciting development, the new augmented reality application, "StraxAR™", will debut with selected works of Jerry Garcia at the event. StraxAR™ Augmented Reality brings the digital world together with the physical world by "augmenting" digital content or a digital experience onto a physical object or image. Strax will literally be creating and presenting a new form of artistic expression at the exhibit, as Jerry’s imagery is blended with AR to showcase his art, music, performances, and other material for fans around the world.

"We have been incredibly honored to represent the art of Jerry Garcia around the world," said Eric Singleton, CTO of Strax Technologies Inc., "Our push toward the fusion of fine art, music, and the augmented digital experience allows us to open new doors to the discovery and understanding of artistic expression like never before,” Singleton continued, “StraxAR™ will enable us to artistically orchestrate new experiences directly via Jerry’s artwork as a visual multimedia portal, creating stunning works as sustainably sourced heirloom pieces, to be enjoyed and shared for generations.”

Strax Technologies will continue to present new limited edition works going forward, and will also hold select live events fulfilling the mission to make the art of Jerry Garcia accessible to millions of fans worldwide.

“What excites me most about AR’s future is its role in the arts. It can present multiple cultural experiences and broaden their accessibility to worldwide audiences instantly and at lower costs,” said Steve Kranz, COO of Stonehenge Licensing Consultants and advisor to Strax Technologies Inc.

Titans of the jam music scene, Max Creek has been going strong for nearly 50 years. The band has been known for embarking on extensive tours, playing as many as 200 shows a year to crowds of thousands of people.

Their show at Garcia’s is a unique opportunity to see this legendary band in a completely new way. Fans will be able to jam out and boogie along to Max Creek’s electrifying music in an intimate concert space.

Max Creek released Live at 45, its first album in 19 years, back in February 22, 2019. The album is a compilation of songs from 8 sets they played during their 45th year of making music.

Guitarist and long-time member of Max Creek, Scott Murawski, has closely collaborated with Phish bassist Mike Gordon. The pair have written songs together and Mike Gordon has sat in with Max Creek on a number of occasions. Gordon calls Max Creek “one of his favorite bands.”

Original founding member and bassist, John Rider, has said that he saw Max Creek as “a vehicle for the dreams of musicians, artists, poets, or anyone else with a vision.” As they get closer to their 50th year as a band, that dream lives on, and the vision keeps expanding.

Matisyahu and FANS celebrate the joyous Jewish holiday of Hanukkah with three livestreams from the stage of Port Chester, New York’s The Capitol Theatre. The livestreams take place December 10, 11, and 17, exclusively on https://fans.live/matisyahu. Each event is available on-demand for 48 hours after it originally goes live.

“Performing this year’s Festival of Light livestream shows in Westchester, New York and even more poignantly at The Capitol Theatre, brings the entire experience full circle in a very personal way, being my hometown venue and one of my favorite theaters in the world.” said Matisyahu. “Prior to COVID, my wife and I attended shows there often, given the proximity to our home and the fact that it stages shows from our favorite artists and bands. After almost a year without playing music live, I could not imagine a better place for this year’s Festival of Light. It will really feel like being home which is very fitting for this year, only missing the joyous faces in the audience looking back at us, which we all hope to return to very soon.”

Beginning as an annual year-end-celebration in 2004, Matisyahu’s Festival of Light concerts — which provide warmth, joy, strength, and inspiration during the holiday season — are the biggest shows of his career. This year’s shows are no exception. As people around the world light the Hanukkah candles, Matisyahu’s music transforms the darkness from this past year into light.

As the story goes, when the Jews returned to their holy temple desecrated almost beyond repair, one sealed canister of oil remained untouched, and from that, the entire temple and nation were able to be rebuilt. Hope stayed alive and burned brightly for eight nights representing one above the natural cycle of seven, eight representing the infinite and the aspect of humanity which never dies; the light of the soul which shines and warms up the contrasting darkness surrounding it, reminding us of the miraculous.

With social distancing remaining in effect due to the global coronavirus pandemic, this year’s holiday will look different than in years past. Matisyahu’s vision for the Festival of Light 2020 livestream shows is that families can safely gather together, either around the menorah or anything that binds them over the holidays and share a meaningful experience. It is one that will never be forgotten. Matisyahu hopes that his music can be the soundtrack to this event and help to inspire during these challenging times.

Fans are encouraged to give the gift of music this holiday season by transferring their tickets and merchandise to a friend or family member. After purchasing, individuals can forward their confirmation e-mails to FANS at [email protected] to arrange gifting.

WHEN: December 10, 11 + 17 at 9PM ET / 6PM PT. Each event will be available on-demand for 48 hours after it originally goes live.

FANS and KEEN x Garcia present the full list of artists invited to livestream on Earth Day to raise awareness about Alaska's Tongass National Forest — the largest temperate rainforest, and one of the most carbon-storing terrestrial ecosystems on Earth. The livestream will be a totally unique experience with artist performances coming from unique spaces and iconic venues across the country.

In the spirit of the Grateful Dead’s Rainforest Benefit Concert, held at Madison Square Garden on September 24, 1988, the livestream event honors Jerry Garcia’s enduring musical, artistic, and environmental legacy. To bring things full circle, FANS and KEEN x Garcia are thrilled to welcome Suzanne Vega and Jack Casady (Hot Tuna) — who played 33 years ago at the Grateful Dead’s Rainforest Benefit — to participate with a musical performance.

The full line-up of artists scheduled to perform are:

In addition to the musical performances, notable discussions include: A Conversation with Dave Matthews (Dave Matthews Band and a member of The Wilderness Society's Governing Council), Trixie Garcia (head of the Jerry Garcia family estate and daughter of Jerry Garcia), and The Wilderness Society, and A Conversation with Gary Lambert (Tales from the Golden Road on SiriusXM's Grateful Dead Channel), Ebet Roberts (legendary photographer who captured the Grateful Dead’s Rainforest Benefit Concert on September 24, 1988 at Madison Square Garden), and Charlie Miller (renowned Grateful Dead taper).

KEEN—the presenting sponsor for the Rainforest Benefit Concert: Protect the Tongass—in partnership with the Jerry Garcia Family, will expand the KEEN x Garcia limited edition collection that combines Jerry Garcia’s artwork with KEEN’s iconic Newport sandal, KEEN Yogui Slip-On, and KEEN Elsa Lite Sneaker starting April 22. A portion of sales from the new collection will be donated to The Wilderness Society’s ‘Protect The Tongass’ campaign.

“In the press conference for the 1988 Rainforest Benefit Concert, Jerry Garcia famously stated ‘Somebody has to do something, and it’s just incredibly pathetic that it has to be us.’ Thirty years later, we see the world’s largest temperate rainforest under constant attack. We’re again voicing Jerry’s words and hoping that the world takes notice and works to save this critical piece of the Earth's ecosystem. We’re proud to be working with The Garcia Family and The Wilderness Society in this effort” says Erik Burbank, Vice President of The KEEN Effect, “because somebody has to do something.”

KEEN x Garcia Present: Rainforest Benefit Concert — Protect The Tongass is a free event, but donations are encouraged to protect the Tongass rainforest of Alaska. Fans watching from home will also be motivated to sign a petition asking President Biden and his administration to protect the Tongass National Forest.
