On Friday, May 31st, The Green performs at Mishawaka Amphitheatre. The sextet will release their new singles "Take Me On" and "Something About It" on May 21st. Both songs will appear on the band's third album, scheduled for release by Easy Star Records on August 20th. The Green's last album, Ways & Means, spent four-weeks at #1 on Billboard's Reggae Chart.

The Green's self-titled debut album was named iTunes Best Reggae Album of the Year, and made Billboard's 2010 year-end Top 10 Reggae Chart. Shortly after its release, the band began a cycle of heavy touring. Flying to the mainland and traveling the country in support of acts like Rebelution and SOJA, they honed their eclectic blend of reggae and four-part vocal harmonies. After playing all 41 dates of Vans Warped Tour 2012, the Oahu-based group completed a 31-city headlining U.S. fall tour, including multiple sold out dates.

"The Green's powerful sonic identity fuses late 1970s-era dub-heavy roots reggae (reminiscent of English bands like Aswad and Steel Pulse) with strands of contemporary rock/pop/R&B and sporadic indigenous Hawaiian musical and lyrical references." - Billboard

Two themes have remained constant at Mishawaka Amphitheatre over the years: music and community. Homesteaded in 1916 by Walter S. Thompson (and originally called “Thompson’s Resort”), Mishawaka Amphitheatre has provided a memorable gathering spot for Colorado residents and visitors to enjoy food and beverage, art, music, and spectacular natural surroundings for 100 years. Today, venue owners announced plans to celebrate the Mishawaka’s 100th anniversary with a series of events, specials, community-minded collaborations and concerts, kicking off in January with festivities extending through September 2016.

Dani Grant, Mishawaka Amphitheatre general manager, describes the plans as individual events connected to historical happenings. “We looked at significant dates in 1916 and planned related celebrations,” Grant said. “It is our intention to honor Mishawaka and her fans with each special event, all of which will maintain the music and community focus. It is such an honor to invite everyone to enjoy this incredible authentic place and its history. We are all very excited about commemorating the upcoming 100th year.”

Grant said the anniversary celebration will include deals and discounts at the restaurant, the release of Mishawaka Ale (a 2016 signature Odell Brewing Company beer), a video premier, building with Habitat for Humanity, a commissioned original art release and gallery show featuring local artist Chris Bates, VIP parties, and more. The pinnacle event will be a special 100th anniversary concert featuring a surprise national touring act to be announced with the 2016 season lineup.

More details will be released over time on all of the events currently being planned, and perhaps more that may come to fruition. The information will be made available via the Mishawaka website (www.themishawaka.com) and through social media channels. A general schedule of events can be found below:

An evening of reflection and revelry will mark Mishawaka Amphitheatre’s ongoing 100th anniversary festivities on Friday, March 25, starting with the public unveiling of commemorative artwork at the Downtown Artery and culminating in an indoor overnight at The Mish.

In keeping with the series of celebratory occasions planned for the Mishawaka’s 100th anniversary year, these March outings have historical ties to 1916 events, said Dani Grant, Mishawaka Amphitheatre general manager. “Walter S. Thompson, the original owner, started living on the property with his family in mid-March of 1916,” Grant said. “The indoor dance hall became a community meeting spot for potluck dinners, dances and entertainment throughout the evenings. We wanted to celebrate that community spirit and commemorate that first overnight family adventure with a sleepover of our own, complete with midnight snacks, a breakfast buffet, and of course - musical entertainment. Prepare for a memorable night in the Poudre Canyon, and bring a healthy appetite, sleeping bags and dancing shoes!”

The Velvet Rope will perform at the Mishawaka for all concert guests during the main event, and the evening with continue with sleep-out participants participating in a private after-hours dance party, Grant said, with shuttle service available from the March 25 gallery opening earlier that night in Fort Collins, and back home the following morning.

“The art release at the Downtown Artery earlier that evening is going to be really special,” said Grant, who commissioned a piece by local artist Chris Bates to capture both the historic milestones and meaningful moments of The Mish’s last 100 years. Bates, who has a reputation for creating highly personalized intricate, insightful drawings and murals, will be live painting and talking about the piece during the public art opening, which will include an exhibit featuring local artists along with the reveal of Bates’ commissioned work.

The gallery opening and art party will be open to the public as space allows. Limited tickets for the Mishawaka sleep-out are available at www.themishawaka.com and include draft beer and wine, late-night snacks and a next-day breakfast. As Grant advised, guests should plan to bring their sleeping bags and dancing shoes, but shuttle service from the Downtown Artery is included in the $50 advance/$60 day-of-show price. Should guests want to come up for the show only (and skip the sleep-out), show tickets are $15 advance/$20 day-of-show.

The annual announcement of the Mishawaka Amphitheatre concert season lineup will get special attention this year as part of the venue’s ongoing 100th anniversary celebration. A party at the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery on Saturday, April 16 will provide the setting for an exclusive first look at the Mish 100 concert calendar; a short film highlighting the Mishawaka will also debut that evening at the museum’s OtterBox Digital Dome Theater. An acoustic performance from local favorites Post Paradise, and an opportunity for guests to view the museum’s High Park Fire exhibit will round out the evening’s activities.

While tickets for the event are limited to 100 invited guests total, 50 will be made available to the general public via a social media contest said Dani Grant, Mishawaka Amphitheatre general manager. “The history, and the future, of the Mishawaka is a community story,” Grant said. “We want people to share their pictures and memories with us in celebration of the Mishawaka’s anniversary. The community is the real keeper of the history of the Mish -- the “Mishtory”, as we like to call it. We’d love to give everyone a chance to collectively share those Mish moments.” The Mishawaka staff will select the 50 party guests via social media shares tagged with #Mish100, Grant said.

Grant also enlisted Koi-Fly Creative Productions to help capture the story of the Mishawaka via a video that will premiere during the event. "Working closely on this project with people who express such heartfelt commitment to their place of work was magic,” said Stacey Grant, Koi-Fly’s president and executive producer. “With each day of the shoot we found ourselves falling deeper in love with this iconic, community-revered, 100-year-old landmark. We think the pure spirit of this place will translate beautifully on film. Long live The Mish."

Three Mishawaka shows will be pre-announced March 1, but the lion’s share of the lineup will be presented at the April 16 event. In addition to being the first people to see the 2016 concert calendar, guests will be given a special code at the event to pre-purchase tickets (prior to them being made available to Mish Insiders on Monday, April 18, and the general public on Wednesday, April 20). Music Cities Together today announced the launch of Reopen Every Venue Safely (REVS), an international initiative aimed at promoting best practices, work plans and protocols to ensure music venues are able to open as quickly and safely as possible. REVS is a campaign to develop and disseminate action plans and budgets rooted in a hyper-pragmatic understanding of the challenges ahead. Music Cities Together is supporting 8 United States pilot communities with technical assistance and mentorship as they develop their own local reopening plans. Working as a national cohort, these pilot communities will share information and resources as they develop their locally-based work plans and protocols. Later this year, these pilot plans will be made available to public officials and venues in other communities in an effort to share best practices and learnings.

Parallel REVS initiatives are operating in Canada and the United Kingdom. This level of coordination and collaboration will be new for most communities. REVS will be guided by a national leadership council of government officials, public health experts, venue leadership and communications experts to develop best practices, identify and support pilot cities and bring the project to national scale. Pilot communities in the United States include King County/Seattle, New Orleans, Cleveland, Los Angeles, Albuquerque, Chicago, Austin and Portland. The Canadian REVS initiative is led by Music Policy Forum board member Kwende Kefentse while the UK REVS program is directed by the Music Venue Trust.

Music Venue Trust cofounder Mark Davyd said “in this moment of crises for venues it is all hands on deck. We look forward to sharing strategies with our colleagues in the US and Canada to learn how we best manage this unprecedented challenge as a community.” Music Cities Together’s Michael Bracy said “We all want live music back as quickly and safely as possible. This can only happen through unprecedented levels of communication and partnership between local governments, venues and communications experts to make sure venues are safe and music workers and audiences are protected.” MCT’s Don Pitts added “Local governments, including elected officials, public health experts and creative industries advocates, are responsible for implementing and deploying reopening strategies in alignment with Federal, State and Regional guidelines. For live music to reopen, government officials require direct and coordinated access to venue owners and other music businesses to ensure they are included in reopening strategies.”

King County (Washington) Executive Dow Constantine said “Preservation of our independent live music venues is critical. There is no doubt that these small businesses have particularly challenging safety concerns to address. King County is invested in saving live music, and we look forward to partnering with other great music regions across the country to help establish safety protocols that will support America’s independent live music venues, and contribute to the cultural and economic vitality of our communities.”

King County Creative Economy Strategist Kate Becker added “While all industries are challenged in the wake of COVID-19, live music venues have an exceptionally difficult landscape in which to navigate their way back into business. We are thrilled to partner with music industry, Public Health and creative economy leaders from across the country to tackle this work collectively, and develop some pilot protocols to help ensure that live music makes a strong comeback across the land.”

Lisa Alexis, the Director of the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Economy in New Orleans, said “Music venues with an uphill stance are up for the challenges of reopening.  We recognize that these uncertain times carry additional responsibilities and costs. We also understand, it is unrealistic, and in some ways irresponsible, to blithely move ahead and assume venues will be in a position to open without an aggressive, integrated plan to anticipate the resources and strategies necessary to successfully -- and safely -- reopen our live music economy.”

The Mishawaka Ampitheatre’s Dani Grant said “Venues need access to these officials to inform and have direct knowledge of timelines and, especially, health and safety protocols. It is necessary to understand and inform social distancing, testing and sanitation guidelines to develop budgets, work plans and calendars to effectively reopen.”   The Ella Project co-founder Ashlye Keaton said “Music workers and audiences will not come back to venues unless they know the rules of the road and feel safe. Part of the REVS model recognizes that timely, accurate and trusted information is essential if we hope to see vibrant live music scenes in the future.”

"With an incredible diversity of performance venues across Albuquerque, a city known for its vibrant live music, we are eager to reunite musicians and audiences in a responsible and safe manner," said Dr. Shelle Sanchez, the City of Albuquerque's Cultural Services Department director. "We look forward to this important national discussion as we all develop and implement best practices that bring musicians back to stages and live music back to our communities."

MPF Board Member and City of Ottawa official Kwende Kefentse said "Music happens in municipalities, and as we are determining the safest possible way back it so important to be networked. What we'reable to share between our Canadian cities along with our colleagues in the US and UK can only help our municipalities get back to music together, more safely and sooner."

REVS is a project of Music Cities Together and is overseen by a leadership team including Michael Bracy, Don Pitts, Kate Becker, Dani Grant, Ashlye Keaton and Kwende Kefentse. The goal of MCT is to strengthen mentorship and relationships between public officials, musicians, music industry leaders, advocates and researchers interested in supporting local music ecosystems. For more information, visit www.musiccitiestogether.org or https://www.musiccitiestogether.org/revs. Interested parties can sign up for the REVS mailing list at https://form.jotform.com/201256984278061 or contact us at [email protected].

With glowing eyes, cascading steel hair and wings more than 20-feet across, Mishawaka Amphitheatre’s May 6th, 2021 “Luna Mothra” sculpture installation is a mesmerizing tribute to nature, beauty and the power of the feminine. Commissioned by Mishawaka owner, Dani Grant, and executed by celebrated sculptor, Nick LoFaro, “Luna Mothra” combines LoFaro’s love of pop culture monster movies with the magic of pixie folklore. The result is a heavy metal mashup that will soon become a permanent fixture in the Poudre Canyon right beside the Mish’s main stage. The steel sculpture weighs in at nearly 300 pounds, with a 20-foot wingspan and LED illuminated eyes. It is made from more than 50% reclaimed materials including discarded tractor parts, antique irons, hand saws, spoons and bike sprockets. The sculpture will appear to float beside Mishawaka’s main stage above the Poudre River where she will gaze over crowds gathering for the upcoming summer concert season.

“My husband Matt and I consider ourselves more like stewards of the Mishawaka than owners,” said Dani Grant. “The community and the canyon really own this place. We wanted to create a piece that pays tribute to the awesome power and beauty all around us. At the same time, I really do feel like a Mama Figure here and we wanted Luna Mothra to reflect the power of womanhood as well. Nick has done an amazing job of capturing all those elements.”

LoFaro immediately jumped at the opportunity to place his work in such an iconic setting.

“When Dani reached out to me about creating this piece, I immediately went back to my comic book roots,” said LoFaro. “The idea of a river sprite or fairy is represented through these massive butterfly wings and evokes the feminine. That shape got me thinking about the Kaiju (giant monster), Mothra, Godzilla’s sidekick. Despite being a “monster” she was really a protector of the earth and that speaks to the spiritual nature of this place. My greatest hope is that the piece triggers childlike wonder in all who see it.”

The installation was planned as part of the 105-year-old Mishawaka’s 10th anniversary celebration under the “new” ownership of Dani Grant and Matt Hoeven who purchased the venue in 2010. Covid delayed the event by almost a year, so the May 6th, 2021 reveal party will be an even bigger celebration of renewal as the world emerges from a pandemic lockdown.

“We’ve been hit hard just like every other bar, restaurant or live music venue,” said Grant. “The fact that we’re approaching what looks to be light at the end of the tunnel is cause to celebrate. The May 6th event will be an outdoor, socially-distanced opportunity to blow off some steam at what we hope is nearing the end of this long, challenging time.”

Grant and Hoeven have fully updated and refurbished the Mish, creating Northern Colorado’s premiere outdoor amphitheater while developing a beer, food and craft cocktail menu based on the freshest, locally-sourced ingredients. Some of the country’s most acclaimed artists like Arlo Guthrie, Joan Baez, Bob Weir, Ziggy Marley, Built to Spill and Band of Horses have all graced the stage.

“This Mishawaka is art,” Grant reflected. “People may discover Luna Mothra as a delightful surprise or they may come from many miles away just to see her. We can’t wait to see their reactions and have them share in the magic of this place.”

On September 9th, The Mishawaka and Chipper’s Lanes Entertainment Centers announce three new live music venues and a slew of upcoming concerts featuring nationally touring musicians as well as local bands. Supporting their Live on the Lanes concert series, 830 North in Fort Collins, 2454 West in Greeley, and 100 Nickel in Broomfield will soon host live music along with bowling, laser tag, arcade games, tasty eats and cold beverages.

830 North at Chipper’s College Lanes in Fort Collins, already operating as a music venue, has been hosting live music for over 15 years and stepped up its lighting and production since pandemic restrictions allowed fans back to the stage. 2454 West at Chipper’s Classic Lanes in Greeley will be kicked off October 23rd, and 100 Nickel at Chipper’s Broomfield Lanes will open by the end of the year. All three venues provide opportunities for touring bands to expand their fanbase in Northern Colorado and local bands fine tune their act in front of loyal fans.

It’s been important for us to provide a fun, safe, and unique environment for people to enjoy live music, right over the lanes,” said Talent Buyer and Production Manager Carly Shields. “And with Mishawaka production quality, new investments in sound and lights, and activities to boot, we’ve created an unrivaled experience for a show.”

Mishawaka Presents will be booking the venues and producing the shows to give live music fans the highest quality experience. Fans have the option to purchase GA tickets with dance floor access and viewing along the concourse or bowling tickets that include lounge seating, table service, prime viewing, and bowling.

“It was a natural partnership for us given our interest in live music and bowling based entertainment,” said Chipper’s and Mishawaka owner Matt Hoeven. “We’ve had a lot of fun crossing the bowling experience with the live music experience. We know folks all over Colorado and beyond will want to bowl and dance with us.”

To celebrate the launch and rebranding of these sister venues, 830 North will be hosting a Grand Opening party on September 9th featuring local favorite Cactus Cat. Entry is free with 1 appetizer from La Piadina, vending, yard games, open bowling, as well as a free beer and restaurant specials in the venue. The Mish riverside venue and sister company Chipper's Lanes Entertainment venues (830 North in Fort Collins, 2454 West in Greeley, and 100 Nickel in Broomfield) and Fieldnotes Organic Vodka and Gin are proud to announce a new partnership bringing these 4 music venues and craft distillery, La Crosse Distilling Co. together to support musicians. Wisconsin-based La Crosse Distilling Co. distributes their organic spirits throughout the state of Colorado including their flagship brands Fieldnotes Vodka, Fieldnotes Gin, Downtown Toodeloo Rock and Rye, Robber's Straight Rye Whiskey and more.

La Crosse Distilling Co. will donate a portion of the proceeds of each bottle of Fieldnotes Vodka and Fieldnotes Gin sold to all Chipper's Lanes locations to Black Fret Colorado, a non-profit organization supporting local musicians. To launch the partnership, La Crosse Distilling Co. has pledged an initial $2,000 donation to the Colorado chapter of Black Fret, an artist granting organization that Mishawaka/Chipper's Lanes owner Dani Grant is assisting in its launch in Colorado.

Co-founder and co-owner of La Crosse Distilling Co., Chad Staehly, lived and performed music on the Front Rage of Colorado and beyond for twenty-five years before moving back to Wisconsin. Staehly mentions, "When we started the distillery, we wanted to focus on pairing our organic spirits with the music world, and specifically I was hoping we'd be able to partner up with some of the great music venues in Colorado. Mishawaka Amphitheatre and Chipper's Lanes music venues have been such a big part of the northern Colorado music scene. We're honored to be partnered with them to serve our spirits and to be able to give something back to the musicians who make these venues come alive."

Mishawaka Amphitheatre owner, Dani Grant, shares, “We're so excited to work with a company that shares a passion for music to represent our venues. La Crosse Distilling Co. not only supports our production quality but also the local musicians that play our stages across the Front Range.  It's a powerful partnership.”

Downtown Toodeloo Rock and Rye, an organic flavored whiskey crafted by La Crosse Distilling Co., will be a concert sponsor and will present select shows in the 2022 season, including two nights of Leftover Salmon on the first weekend of July. Song Confessional, the mobile confession booth, recording studio and podcast that works with budding artists to turn recorded stories into songs, is excited to announce a new partnership with the renowned Mishawaka Amphitheatre ‘The Mish’ in Bellvue, Colorado. Song Confessional will now have a permanent booth installation at The Mish, its first permanent location in Colorado, where the inaugural Confesst! Festival will kick off and celebrate this partnership on Sunday, September 18.

This first iteration of Confesst! features music performances by Denver’s own Esme Patterson (formerly of the indie folk band Paper Bird), singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Walker Lukens, and psychedelic rock band Bright Light Social Hour – the latter two hailing from Austin -- with more to be revealed. After their individual sets, the artists on the bill will collaborate on a song based on a confession taken at The Mishawaka booth and perform it together. Tickets are free and open to the public, though ticket registration is encouraged. The biannual festival will return to The Mish again next spring, with more confessions and artists to come. Colorado Sound is the official media partner for Confesst! and Song Confessional, and will be promoting both on-site and leading up.

Started by Texas musicians Walker Lukens and Zac Catanzaro, Song Confessional was initially conceived as a music festival activation. In pre-pandemic times, the duo was traveling to various festivals around the country in their blue camper trailer and recording studio. Festival attendees could hop into the trailer and be recorded while recounting any experience they wanted. These ‘confessions,’ as the team calls them, would be shared with songwriters who’d then write and record an original song. More recently, the project has evolved into a podcast in co-production with Austin’s NPR affiliate radio station, KUTX. Each episode features the anonymous story, the song it inspired, and an interview with the songwriter.

The mobile Song Confessional trailer has been featured at select festivals across the country like Newport Folk Festival, SXSW, and Artsplosure, continuing to collect stories and work with talented artists while further bolstering the podcast along the way. Song Confessional has enlisted the talents of artists like Houndmouth, Wild Child, !!!, Esme Patterson, Fat Tony, and more to create sonic mastery out of everyday stories that resonate most with the team. Additionally, Song Confessional secured its first permanent confessional booth  at the revered Hotel Magdalena located in Austin’s popular South Congress area – making The Mishawaka its aptly chosen, second permanent home. This video helps sum up Song Confessional and this partnership well.

“Fundamentally, Song Confessional is about closing the gap between songwriters and everyday people’s experiences. Everyone has a story worthy of a song, just not everyone is a songwriter,” said Walker Lukens. “When presented with the opportunity to have a permanent booth at a thousand capacity amphitheatre, we got so excited. When Dani said she also wanted a mobile confessional booth to take around Colorado, we got especially excited about this partnership.”

The Mishawaka has been known to partner with and promote artistic endeavors and alternative projects as these represent the culture of the venue. The Mish Edition video series, Luna Mothra, the 25' wide steel river nymph sculpture that resides on the riverbank stage left, the rising phoenix tree carving that reside at VIP stage right, and the award-winning High Park Fire survival documentary "Long Love The Mish" are among the artistic expressions Mishawaka has been involved with. Thus, it was a natural fit for Mishawaka owner Dani Grant to welcome this unique and creative project out of Austin to set up shop.

"I am proud to bring this original songwriting and NPR podcast to Colorado in partnership with its brilliant creators, Walker Lukens and Zac Catanzaro,” said Dani Grant. “We will have a permanent installation inside Mishawaka's historical dance hall, providing an exclusive opportunity for our patrons to record a confession and possibly be the subject of a national artist's original piece curated and produced by The Song Confessional."

The Mishawaka partnership and launch of Confesst! are among the many exciting developments for Song Confessional in the coming weeks – with new artist collaborations and more TBA. For more information and to stay up on the latest with Confesst!, artist songs, podcast episodes, Mishawaka booth happenings and more, please visit songconfessional.com, tune into the podcast, and follow along on social media at @songconfessional.
