Despite the drama and fast paced touring this Vermont based Indie Rock band faced last year, they are scheduled to release their second EP entitled, Look What I've Become, on September 4. Chamberlin began playing their first ever packed house shows opening for Grace Potter and the Nocturnals last year and then moved on to release their debut album. Shortly after, the group headlined their own tour, released an EP of covers of musicians Foster the People, Passion Pit, Cults, and more, with all proceeds going towards Vermont Flood Relief, and then finished off the year with another tour that was an intense three-month, 20,000 miles long. To say the least these guys stayed busy, but with such success comes much stress and arguments. Chamberlin headed home last December after a long year barley speaking to each other.Founders of the group Mark Daly and Ethan West made the decision to head for Nashville to record Look What I've Become without the rest of the band. A decision made without knowing the end result. "Ethan and I weren't sure if Chamberlin would exist when we returned," stated Daly. West and Daly brought in Luke Reynolds (Blue Merle, Pictures and Sound, and now playing in Guster), Brad Bivens (King of Leon, Norah Jones) and Patrick Hallahan (My Morning Jacket) to help on the EP. Look What I've Become tells stories of jealousy, despair and resentment and although their other band members had no involvement with this current EP they too shared the same emotions as Daly and West. "While recording the vocals, it really hit us that we had inflicted those same feelings on our band mates--or rather, our best friends. As Mark sang the choirs of "Jealousy," we avoided eye contact and waited for the moment to pass…"  Daly and West quickly came to the conclusion that it was up to them to make things right with the rest of the band, so they headed back to Vermont in efforts to reunite. Chuck and Jamie agreed to rejoin the band although they knew that hard work and intense rehearsals were needed to mend the wounds of the group. Keyboardist Eric had already started working on other projects, but agreed to rejoin until they found a replacement. So Chamberlin went back to the small cabin in Vermont where it all began and started to heal. "Even though Mark and I still feel bad for hurting feelings along the way, we're also very proud and excited about how Look What I've Become turned out musically. It also gave us an opportunity to address some major structural issues before moving forward together. It is often impossible to recover from an affair, but every once in a while people bounce back even stronger."And they should be proud of Look What I've Become! This EP takes you on an emotionally melodic and poetic journey into the lives of these men. Rachel Brown's roots are apparent from the moment you hear her music. Her roots are stemmed from Ethiopian, Bermudian and Southern influences are beautifully carried throughout her sound. Brown's distinct sound crosses the genres of pop, Caribbean, Hawaiian, African, country, hip- hop, and soul. Besides the normal guitar, bass, and drum set up, Brown and her band use some unique instruments within their music such as: the okra, talking drum, the calabash and the ukulele to create such fusion.

Born and raised in New York and a Harvard Graduate, Brown has no formal musical training and she taught herself how to play the guitar and ukulele. She began self teaching herself to play when she discovered she had a natural talent to sing. A natural talent that has to ability to capture you in with her soulful, crisp and sweet sound that her voice puts out. Not surprisingly, people were quickly drawn to her artistry and grabbed the attention of reggae and hip-hop legend Wyclef Jean, who brought her on stage for a surprise cover of Bob Marley's "Redemption Song." Among having the pleasure of singing with one of her favorite influences, Brown was the the 2010 recipient of the prestigious ASCAP Foundation Robert Allen Award for songwriting and 2011 recipient of the Songwriter's Hall of Fame Abe Olman Award for Excellence in Songwriting. All awards aside she has also showcased at the National Association for Campus Activities' national convention which was followed by headlining a 40- date college tour, and has opened for Mary J. Blige and Robin Thicke at Bermuda's National Stadium, and John Legend and Quincy Jones at the Bermuda Music Festival.

With the releasing of her debt EP Building Castles, set to be released September 18, this some how feels like just the beginning for Rachel Brown. Her roots have already been grounded by the eager ears of her audience and I excited to see where this journey will take her. For a sneak peek of the new EP head over to http://rachelbrownmusic.com to take a listen of the new the single "Bumblebee."

Head over to Brown's Youtube page to check out her amazing acoustic cover of Michael Jackson's "Thriller."

They introduced a sound with a mixture of samba, salsa, rock, funk, disco and electronic . Along with winning  a Latin Grammy and being nominated for 2 Latin Grammy they have been making dance music together for over 20 years. In 1995, Los Amigos Invisibles released their first album and David Byrne from Talking Heads happened to pick up it up, "To me it was a mixture of tropical music, Beastie  Boys, Santana…you could hear that this band knew what was going on everywhere in the world and they were putting it all together in their own way," Byrne said. Shortly after Byrne signed the guys to his label Luaka Bop. Los Amigos Invisibles then moved to New York City and began touring in over 60 counties.Aside from the extremely vibrant original music the group produces they also do fun mash ups of famous tunes you would most likely hear at big sporting events. This year marked 25th Anniversary of the Reggae on the Rocks and you couldn't ask for a better day for it to be held on. The weather was a comfortable 70 degrees during the afternoon and cooled down perfectly that night. Thousands of eager reggae fans hiked the 192 stairs up to the Red Rocks Amphitheater to indulge in a day full of dancing, love, unity and the sweet reggae sounds of Burning Spear, Steel Pulse, The Meditations, Rebelution, Judge Roughneck and Yellow Dubmarine. The energy of the show and the crowd was beyond beautiful last Saturday, you could feel the love floating around and bouncing off the rocks. Eyes closed and heads tilted back the crowd let them music guide them. Not only were people passing around herbal offerings to one another, but at one point the group sitting next to me offered to buy me lunch. I love to imagine how the world would be if everyone went to at least one reggae show a month...the world would definitely be a better place.

Unfortunately, I did miss catching Yellow Dubmarine's set, but I walked into Red Rocks as Judge Roughneck started their set and they were defiantly carrying on the reggae sensation. Judge Roughneck has a very heavy horn section which makes them have more of a ska sound and they rocked the stage. They incorporated the Pink Panther theme in one of their songs, which was a great treat for all the kiddos in the audience.

Then The Meditations hit the stage with a seasoned standard sound of Jamaican reggae. The mediations first hit single, Woman is Like a Shadow was released in 1974 and they have had the pleasure of singing back up vocals for reggae legends Jimmy Cliff, Gregory Isaacs, Mr. Cop and Junior Marvin. The Meditations front men, Ansel Cridland, Danny Clarke and Winston Watson handsomely harmonized their vocals and energies and captured the audience into their music while setting a great transition for the Rebelution set.

California natives Rebelution presented more than just great music; they instilled positive and causative lyrics. "Though it was important for all of us in the band to be motivated to continue with what we do best, which is making music, we feel people in the world could use some encouragement in this time to stay motivated as well," stated the band in a recent interview.

I knew going into the show that whatever my imagination could come up with about seeing Steel Pulse, it could not be compared to what I was about to experience. Honestly, I don’t know if there are enough words to express the true feelings of last Saturday when they were about to go on…but I will try. Reggae legends, Steel Pulse started off strong and hyped with Worth His weight in Gold. The vitality of this group was passed around to everyone that night and song after song they maintained that same level energy. Conveying messages of struggles, hope and unity laced with the art of conducting such powerful rhythms.

Lastly, Burning Spear finished off the night immaculately. Legendary Burning Spear has released over 25 albums, has a total of 9 Grammy nominations, and won the Academy's Best Reggae Album Honor Award. And to top things off he remains one of the very few reggae pioneers still making music. "I don't know how other people see music," says Burning Spear, "some people might see it based upon money, some people might see music based upon opportunity and access. But I see music as life. I see music as inspiration."

Inspiration doesn't even begin to describe what this year's musical line up had to provide. All of the sweet reggae vibes were vibrantly visible and physically present on August 25, 2012 at Red Rocks.  Reggae music never disappoints. If you missed this year's show, you have to make plans NOW to attend the 26th Anniversary of Reggae on the Rocks because it is an experience that should not be missed.

The way the Alan Evans Trio was formed was an act of fate.   Guitarist Danny Mayer was drawn to Alan Evans first as a fan of the legendary group Soulive and then a musical connection was established that only magnified when they linked up with organ player Beau Sasser. Firstly, the combined energy that these guys have together is mind blowing. From the very beginning of the set to the very end the group maintained this outstandingly high energy. Just by being in their general presence you could clearly see and feel their unapologetic passion for the music they were producing. These men lost themselves within their music so much that half the photos I took didn’t turn out because they were moving so fast. With all of their energy and passion it is not surprising that that these guys pounded out their last album Drop Hop in just a couple days! "It was all coming together so well, I could hear the entire album in my head. I can honestly say, this is the first album I've ever recorded that came out exactly the way I dreamed it," stated Alan EvansThe Alan Evans Trio rolled through Colorado last month with shows in Fort Collins at Hodi’s Half Note and in Denver at The Other Side.  There is still time to catch them live with upcoming shows in New York and Florida.
