Holiday Shores Play DENVER At Hi Dive On 11/9 With Evangelicals

Columbus'd The Whim is the first first full-length album from Pemberton's Holiday Shores, who, like the street that bears their name, are quintessentially summer: chimey guitars, reverb-soaked vocals, warbling Rhodes, echoes of years past.

Pemberton started playing the piano at age seven and learned the guitar shortly after. He began finding his musical footing in high school bands, playing with his brother, friends, and eventually his college roommates.

The album, packed with 10 could-be singles, reads like a book of Pemberton's well-written memories. Each word chosen meaningfully with a linguist's touch; each sentence constructed carefully with an artist's ear. Columbus'd The Whim is a literary work in addition to a sonic one.

The current line up, comprised of friends and roommates spent months recording together in Pemberton's living room obsessing over vintage gear and perfecting their captivating hooks, heart-warming melodies, and creating a haunting tunnel of sound as a stunning backdrop.

Columbus'd The Whim is Holiday Shores' first release on twosyllable records.

CAKE--one of the most principled, enduring, self-reliant, and best-selling artists in post-alternative rock--are currently in the midst of recording their sixth studio album, with an entirely green twist: the new project is being written, rehearsed and recorded entirely with solar power. During the recording process, CAKE is sharing the results with their fans via a set of free ring tones--each based on a song from the upcoming album--released via the band’s mailing list.

Starting today, the first of six ring tones based on brand new album tracks will be released through CAKE’s mailing list. The first ringtone, titled “Long Time,” is only available for download to members of the CAKE mailing list; to sign up, visit: Every six weeks, a ringtone for a new CAKE song will be released via e-blast to all mailing list members up until the new album launch in Spring 2010.

Says trumpeter VINCE DIFIORE: “All the parts we've written for a song work symbiotically for the whole; however, some hooks have enough merit on their own to justify offering them as utterly satisfying ring tones." "We weren't sure if people were still even listening to albums,” adds songwriter and lead vocalist JOHN McCREA, “so we thought we might just release ring tones and car commercial music instead. This allows people who own cell phones a chance to sample our wares long before an album is ever released. That's what we know people want. Ring tones." And bassist GABRIEL NELSON says simply: "We are proud to offer high quality, custom crafted ring tones to listeners worldwide."

Recently honored as one of the top 10 “greenest” bands on the planet in a special issue of Billboard, CAKE teamed with Borrego Solar to convert their entire Sacramento recording studio into solar power. The innovative group documented their break away from the city’s energy grid, as illustrated by this video of CAKE’s solar conversion: The group’s decision to record their forthcoming album entirely with solar power was made for both artistic and environmental reasons: “It just seemed like the right thing to do,” says McCREA. “I believe in science, and science is telling us that we need to make adjustments. Living in California, it seemed like a waste not to take advantage of all the free electricity.” DIFIORE chimes in: “We work in the spirit of cooperation, and when there is something like solar energy above your head, there is a little bit more levity added.”

Founded in 1992 and reaching worldwide attention on the strength of their platinum albums Fashion Nugget and Prolonging The Magic, CAKE have been cited by Rolling Stone as creators of “a modern pop that is both mechanized and organic...highly developed and virtually unique.” Highlights in recent years range from raves for their latest studio album Pressure Chief (2004), and a subsequent compilation of unreleased tracks B-sides and Rarities (2007), to major success in concert, including multiple runs of their self-founded ‘Unlimited Sunshine’ tour and solo dates in large theaters and arenas worldwide.

CAKE reissued their first album, Motorcade of Generosity, on June 9th as an enhanced CD. The re-issue includes previously unavailable video footage and limited edition decal. The 180g vinyl version of the album features limited edition poster art and sold out in two days.

Dinosaur Jr. @ Boulder Theater

Indie rocker giants, Dinosaur Jr.'s latest release, "Farm", has received critical acclaim and praise from fans. Dinosaur Jr.'s, bassist, Lou Barlow opens with his solo project featuring Mike Watt's Missingmen band.

The worry about the reunion of the original Dinosaur Jr. line-up, more than 20 years after their formation and legendary dissolution, was that these guys were just flogging the back catalog as a marketing gimmick. With the release of Beyond, in 2007, the band gave a hearty Marshall-driven "F**K YOU!" answer to those inquiring ears. Restoring the sound established by the opening hat-trick gambit of Dinosaur, You're Living All Over Me, and Bug, the Beyond record continued the band's march into rock greatness by making old ears smile and new ears bleed afresh. And now comes Farm, Dinosaur Jr.'s first double LP and their fifth full length record by the original line-up -- J Mascis, Lou Barlow, and Murph -- set to release on their new label home Jagjaguwar on June 23rd.

If Beyond was Dinosaur Jr.'s return to form, Farm is proof that this band continues to deliver that which makes rock worth cranking to 11. At times wholly 70's guitar-epic, at times perfect for sitting by a babbling brook with Joni and Neil, Farm encompasses Dinosaur Jr.'s signature palette - soaring and distorted guitar, unshakable hooks, honey-rich melodies - songs that get into your head and, bouncing around happily, stay there. The ear-catching "Plans" is nearly 7 minutes of classic whipped-topping rock dessert, while "I Don't Wanna Go There" is a meat-and-potatoes main dish, mixing unapologetic lead guitar with straight-ahead delivery a la James Gang or Humble Pie. These two tunes round out twelve tracks propelled by the unique energy of one of America's greatest living rock bands hitting their stride.

The Les Paul Trio With Special Guests At The Iridium Jazz Club Upcoming Schedule

The Iridium Jazz Club will continue to celebrate Les Paul the man, his music and his legacy every Monday night with

With Special Guests

LARRY CORYELL is one of the world's acknowledged guitar masters. He has recorded more than 75 albums over the past 40 years as a bandleader, soloist and 'featured accompanist'. Hailed by his legion of fans as one of "the guitar gods" in the late 1970s and as a "truly Renaissance musician who excels at all styles of playing", he has also been christened as "a true pioneer of rock-jazz fusion" by the New York Times, and dubbed "the Godfather of Fusion" by Dan Ouellette of Down Beat Magazine.

For more than six decades, the legendary Bucky Pizzarelli has had a stellar career. “The complete jazz musician”, he was a fixture in jazz and the studios since the early ‘50s. The list of big bands and vocalists with whom Bucky has performed and recorded reads like a veritable Who's Who of Jazz. One of the era's most solid rhythm players, Pizzarelli was in high demand, playing and touring with Benny Goodman, Zoot Sims, Bud Freeman, and Stephane Grappelli, and, later, recording with George Van Eps, Carl Kress and George Barnes. His superior mastery of the seven-string guitar is unparalleled. The beloved guitarist has developed a very personal style that sets him apart. He lives in Saddle River, New Jersey, with his wife, Ruth.

“...moves effortlessly from the daunting format of the solo guitar to playing solid, swinging rhythm and single string solos..” RIVERWALK.ORG

From the moment he made his debut in 1985 with the gold-selling Grammy® nominated album Magic Touch, guitar virtuoso Stanley Jordan has proven himself as a forward thinking innovator. With his nimbly executed “touch” or “tap” technique, he ushered a dazzling and spellbinding new sound into the world of progressive instrumental music.

Steve Miller is one of the most famous blues-rock guitarists to emerge from the 1960s. From his early days in San Francisco to his top-selling pop/rock hits of the  '70s and early '80s  "The Joker," "Fly Like an Eagle," "Rock'n Me," and "Abracadabra. Born in Milwaukee, Wi. in 1943 Steve was befriended by guitar pioneer Les Paul who was a frequent visitor to the Miller household and is considered Les’s ‘Godson’.  A portion of the door proceeds for this show will benefit the Les Paul Foundation dedicated to keeping his legacy alive for future generations.

In a career that spans three decades and a discography that includes more than a dozen eclectic and innovative recordings, five-time GRAMMY nominee Mike Stern has established himself as one of the premier jazz and jazz-fusion guitarists and composers of his generation.

Pat began playing professionally in 1961. He has performed with a wide variety of artists including Sonny Stitt, Gene Ammons, Richard Groove Holmes, John Handy, Bobby Hutcherson, Chick Corea, Jack McDuff, Don Patterson, Stanley Clark, Eric Kloss, Trudy Pitts, Willis Jackson, Lloyd Price, Woody Herman, Chuck Israels, Charles Earland, Barry Miles and Joe Pesci. Since 1967, Pat has been touring as a leader. He has been a Recording Artist for Vanguard, Prestige, Warner Brothers, Muse, Columbia, King, Paddlewheel, Evidence, Sony, 32 Jazz, High Note, Milestone, Polydor, Concord, Fantasy, House of Blues, Mythos, Mainstream, Cobblestone, Atlantic and, most currently, Blue Note Records.

Eldar left his native Kyrgystan for the United States in 1998, a boy of 11 with a slight grasp of English but an astonishing natural talent that immediately captured the attention of the jazz world. In the last seven years, with the support of his family, he has established American roots as he continued his education, absorbed the culture, and emerged as one of the most distinctive jazz pianists of the new generation.

From Good Homes Reunite for Two Shows - Dec 18 and 19

The members of From Good Homes have announced today that the band will reunite for a weekend of special shows- their first in 10 years.  The shows, scheduled for December 18th & 19th at the Wellmont Theatre in Montclair, NJ will mark the first time the band has performed together since the band's legendary "farewell show" in August 1999.

The genesis of From Good Homes dates back to a high school band, when childhood friends Todd Sheaffer, Brady Rymer, and Patrick Fitzsimmons came together in rural, Northwestern New Jersey.  Originally called "Old Crow", and later evolving into "The Dogs", the core line-up remained.  With the addition of Dan Myers in 1988, and Jamie Coan in 1990, the band From Good Homes was fully formed.  The band's upbeat approach, solid songwriting, and unique sound allowed them to quickly develop a dedicated following on the touring circuit. Bringing together rock, jazz, folk, celtic and jam-band influences under one umbrella, rooted in Todd Sheaffer's inspired songwriting, From Good Homes forged their own, instantly lovable music. Their unique style prompted one critic to affectionately label the band's blend of influences as "Hick-Pop".

From Good Homes released 5 albums during their career- 3 on RCA Records- and performed over 1,500 shows across North America, including two tours with Dave Matthews Band and shows with Bob Dylan, Ratdog featuring Bob Weir, Widespread Panic, Hootie & The Blowfish, Blues Traveler and many more.  In 1998, From Good Homes received an achievement award from Billboard Magazine and Irving Plaza for the most consecutive sold-out performances ever (12) at the New York City venue.

After disbanding in 1999, band members went on to embark on individual projects.  Todd Sheaffer formed the bluegrass-influenced Railroad Earth, which has released 5 records and continues to sell-out shows throughout North America.  After starting a family of his own, Brady Rymer began a career making music for children and families; his most recent release "Here Comes Brady Rymer and the Little Band that Could" was nominated for a 2009 Grammy Award in the Best Musical Album for Children category.  Drummer Patrick Fitzsimmons has had a very successful run as a singer/songwriter, releasing 5 records independently and touring regularly in the Northeast.  Saxophonist Dan Myers runs a production company, Dirt Floor Studio, and has worked on records with Adam Green, Sam Champion, as well as with Rymer and Fitzsimmons.  He also appeared as a guest soloist on "Live Trax Vol. 16" the latest live release from Dave Matthews Band.  Multi-instrumentalist Jamie Coan continues to write, perform and record and currently plays fiddle and Dobro with The Red Top Ramblers in the Charleston, SC area.

"It'll be great to get back on stage with the guys and play again" says lead singer Todd Sheaffer.  "It's been a long time since the From Good Homes family was together and I know this is going to be a whole lot of fun".

Tickets for the shows are $28 in advance and $33 on the day of show.  They are on sale now through  All information is available at and

Zen Tricksters 30th Anniversary Show 10/25/09

The legendary New York based jam band, The Zen Tricksters, celebrates its 30th anniversary on Sunday, October 25th with a rare show at B.B. King Blues Club in New York (237 W. 42 St. 212 997-4144), NY beginning at 7:30 PM.

Founder and lead guitarist Jeff Mattson will be joined by veteran Zen Tricksters Klyph Black (bass), Tom Circosta (guitar), and Dave Diamond (drums). The band is currently on hiatus while Mattson pursues his project with Donna Jean Godchaux (Grateful Dead), The Donna Jean Godchaux Band, and Klyph Black tours with his blues band, Rumor Has It. Mattson recalls their early days when the band was called The Volunteers and played five+ nights a week in Long Island clubs. The band began touring nationally in 1989 and has played in nearly every state in the Union, as well as Canada and Japan. Former Zen Tricksters players of note include Rob Barraco who played with band mate Mattson with Phil Lesh in 1999, went on to play with The Dead, and who now plays keys with Dark Star Orchestra.

EOTO: Fall Tour & New Album

The way music is produced and performed is growing at an astounding rate. From the roots of acoustic music to amped up rock n’ roll and into the electronic revolution, the options available to the modern musician are more like a scientific lab, then the campfire jam from where it all started. From the controls of a tiny laptop, a performer now has the power to mix, change and loop sounds in a concert setting with great ease. This modern twist of technology is bringing a new level of music to the electronic dance party.

While the genre of live electronica is relatively new on the music circuit, nobody is breaking the boundaries of live producing and improvisation like EOTO. Fusing elements of live instrumentation, house music, dubstep and electro into their dance ready sound, the band will be taking the country by storm beginning in late September for their perennial fall tour, performing 33 consecutive nights in a row.

Consisting of Michael Travis and Jason Hann the duo mixes the organic sounds of live drums, keyboards, vocals, bass, percussion, and guitar through a variety of programs and gadgets to create a style of music that is more likely found in a dance club, then a live music theater. What sets EOTO apart from other artists in this emerging genre is how the music is created. While some artists may spend hours pre-mixing samples and elements of music for their live show, EOTO uses nothing pre-recorded, giving them the ability to approach each song with on-the-spot spontaneity and 100% live improvisation.

Because of the ever-changing sound and style of music, it’s hard to describe a band like EOTO. In a recent discussion on the bands highly active Facebook page, the thousands of subscribed fans were asked to describe the band in their own words – descriptions ranged from mythical to visual, each in awe of the duo’s ability to create high octane dance music in a live setting. A trait that has fans old and new catching multiple shows on a tour and packing venues wherever they play. Or maybe EOTO is selling out venues around the coast for the spirit of dance music they bring in general. As one fan put it “It’s a raging dance party that nobody should miss. An indescribable feeling that lingers for hours“.

It should come as no surprise that the members of EOTO have performed with a range of musicians second to none. Their combined resume includes the likes of Isaac Hayes, Loreena McKinnett, Herbie Hancock, Drummers of STOMP, DJ Tequila, Les Nubians, Stanley Jordan, Les ClayPool, Joshua Redman, Arturo Sandoval, Bela Fleck, Trilok Gurtu, Charlie Hunter, Mike Marshall and Dave Grisman just to name a few. In less then 3 years, the duo has performed over 500 shows including the top festivals in North America. The machine that drives EOTO is more then just performing live music, the band also does all of their own self-management and booking for every single show they play.

Beginning in late September and performing every single night in October, EOTO will hit the road with their long-awaited studio EP called Fire the Lazers!!. This eleven-track journey into dubstep, electro and house music showcases their talents and skill in a growing dimension of music. In true EOTO spirit the album was produced with nothing planned or rehearsed, capturing only the best of what makes up their original sound. The album will be available on the road and by digital download in October of 2009. Those interested in an advance copy of the release for review should contact Ami Heinrich

Danny Barnes Trio & Spring Creek @ Boulder Theater

The banjo stirs a feeling of timelessness with its old time/bluegrass/folk associations. Danny Barnes builds with these base molecules of the instrument's heritage, sculpting a sound with one foot in contemporary technological landscapes, another in deep running traditions, and arms waving free in outer space. Found audio samples merge and crash as the instrument's high picking peaks and valleys of bassy depths loop in a journey through the American heart of darkness and back towards the light. Add the free form jazz of Ornette Coleman to the legacy of Dock Boggs, remix it with DJ Shadow, and view it through a DIY punk aesthetic and you have some idea of Folktronics. Live, on studio or homemade records, and through the countless concert recordings that circulate in the taper scene as word-of-mouth gems, Barnes is a sonic pioneer, hacking through the underbrush with his musical weapons of choice, banjo as compass.

Spring Creek from Lyons, Colorado, are quickly gaining a reputation as the hottest young band in the Rocky Mountains. The quartet play a mix of bluegrass standards and compelling originals, and all four musicians are also accomplished vocalists. Spring Creek builds their foundation on the fundamentals of classic bluegrass, yet they create their own energetic contemporary style.Though they clearly appeal to traditional bluegrass fans, the Spring Creek musicians mix in a little something for everyone at their live shows. Expect to hear an Elton John or Gillian Welch cover squeezed in between a blazing fast Carter Stanley instrumental and a rip roarin' Bill Monroe tune.

Honey Don’t plays American Stringband Music from the heart of Colorado and the Rocky Mountains. The music ranges from Americana to Folk, Country, Old-time, Bluegrass and good old Rock-n-Roll.
