DEADMAU5 RETURNS W/ 'FOR LACK OF A BETTER NAME'

His name may conjure up images of a lifeless rodent, but the Canadian born self- confessed techno geek otherwise known as DEADMAU5 (pronounced Dead Mouse) punches like a heavyweight.  On September 22, the Grammy-nominated, Juno Award-winning electronic music sensation who has racked up more than 5,000,000 hits on MySpace will unleash his second album for ULTRA Records--titled FOR LACK OF A BETTER NAME--and then set off on a massive fall tour throughout North America.

deadmau5Over the last two years, DEADMAU5 has gone from near obscurity to becoming a superstar as an innovative live performer.  This past spring he sold out two nights at New York City’s Webster Hall and one night at Hollywood, CA’s legendary 4,000- capacity Palladium.  This summer he’ll perform at Lollapalooza in Chicago, Electric Zoo in New York, Glastonbury in the U.K. and a host of other European festivals. In the fall,  he’ll launch his mammoth world-wide ‘For Lack Of A Better Name’ tour encompassing over 30 dates in North America alone, including the headlining slot on the highly anticipated annual HARD Halloween event taking place at The Forum in Los Angeles.

The trek will kick off September 23 at Ritual in Ottowa, the day after For Lack Of A Better Name drops in both Canada and the U.S.  The non-stop routing will take DEADMAU5 through markets up and down both seaboards and throughout the interior of both countries with stops in his hometown of Toronto, San Francisco, Denver, Little Rock and everywhere in between, all while wearing his signature custom-made mau5head.  The complete listing of tour markets follows below.

On For Lack Of A Better Name, the follow-up to his critically acclaimed 2008 debut Random Album Title, DEADMAU5 takes a different turn by incorporating various styles of music into multi-blocks of songs.  The album will include “Ghosts ‘N’ Stuff,” featuring Pendulum’s Rob Swire, and the title track, both of which he’ll perform on tour. Further details about the album will be unveiled at a later date.

Meanwhile, the video for DEADMAU5 and Kaskade’s club smash “I Remember” continues to make waves. Already garnering over 500K views on YouTube, the video has been favored by the likes of AOL as the Video of the Day and featured by both MySpace US and UK.  Shot in Manchester, U.K., the video stars favorite actor Stephen Graham (This is England, Snatch).  View the full length ten minute video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRj91VZG4Dw.

Kyle Hollingsworth to Release New Album, Then There's Now

For more than a decade, as keyboardist for Colorado's beloved String Cheese Incident, Kyle Hollingsworth has consistently proven one of the most innovative and virtuosic musicians on the American jamband scene. Now, with the Sept. 15th release of Then There's Now (SCI Fidelity Records), his first album since the band announced a hiatus in 2007, Hollingsworth extends his reach into areas that will both delight longtime admirers and lock in countless new ones. Emphasizing his considerable songwriting skills and incorporating a plethora of surprises, Then There's Now marks the true emergence of Kyle Hollingsworth as a solo artist.

kyleFor Hollingsworth, who has recently been more prolific than ever before, the title of Then There's Now offers the first clue as to where he stands today. Then There's Now undeniably draws on Hollingsworth's past affiliation with "The Cheese," using his previous work as a jumping off point-yes, there are some intoxicating, if more concise, jams to be savored. But the album's "now" component-irresistible melodies, poignant lyrics and fine-tuned song construction, plus a willingness to infuse the tunes with elements of pop, jazz, electronica, hip-hop and more-transports Hollingsworth into musical realms he's never before explored at length.

Look for Hollingsworth on tour this fall in support of Then There's Now.  Tour dates to be announced soon.

Paco Peña @ Boulder Theater

Paco Peña brings the true spirit of flamenco to audiences all over the world. As guitarist, composer, dramatist and mentor, he builds inventively on the deep foundations of flamenco.

paco-penaHis imagination, dedication and skill constantly renew this archetypal Spanish art form. He expands its horizons, yet never loses touch with its visceral emotion.

Born in the Andalucian city of Córdoba , Paco Peña began learning guitar from his brother at the age of six and made his first professional appearance at the age of 12. In the late 1960s he left Spain for London , where his recitals of flamenco music captured the public imagination.

In 1995 The New York Times declared that: “Mr Peña is a virtuoso, capable of dazzling an audience beyond the frets of mortal man. He combines rapid-fire flourishes with a colourist’s sense of shading; this listener cannot recall hearing any guitarist with a more assured mastery of his instrument.“ It should come as no surprise that readers of America ”s Guitar magazine judged Paco Peña Best Flamenco Guitarist of the Year for five consecutive years.

Boombox Summer Tour & Fall Release

zionExcitement is growing around the news that musical masterminds Russ Randolph and Zion Rock Godchaux are donning their creative caps in anticipation of a fall release of completely brand new material. The revolutionary producer/singer-songwriter/DJ/guitarist duo, together known as BoomBox, has amassed legions of loyal fans through their innovative blend of decades of music history and popular culture. On their latest release, downriverelectric, BoomBox are giving back to the fans for their years of dedicated support, allowing no singles or samples to be released before the record's actual release date this fall.

In a world where singles, reviews and advance album copies are distributed months before an official release, BoomBox is turning the tables on the music industry by doing the exact opposite. Those hoping to get a taste of what's to come from BoomBox are out of luck, as the contents of downriverelectric remain a mystery. Will the album feature the cosmic interplay of infectious rhythms and shimmering guitars? Did BoomBox treat audiences on their highly successful summer tour to snippets and samples of their most eagerly awaited release to date? Only Randolph and Godchaux know those answers, simply adding to the suspense surrounding downriverelectric. What we do know is that the album will be recorded at the renowned Heart of Gold Records, capturing the magic that is the Muscle Shoals sound. Like legendary musicians Lynyrd Skynyrd, Eric Clapton, Aretha Franklin and The Allman Brothers summoning the spirits of Muscle Shoals, BoomBox is poised to write the next great chapter in the community's rich music history. Pushing the boundaries of creativity to its extreme limits, downriverelectric promises to be BoomBox's best and most adventurous work to date.

LIVING COLOUR To Release 'The Chair In The Doorway'

Living Colour will release their first new studio album in five years entitled The Chair In The Doorway on September 15 via Megaforce Records. The legendary downtown NYC rock band, who exploded out of CBGB's in the late '80s, landing all over MTV, the cover of Rolling Stone and stadium stages around the world with their Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum debut album Vivid, are back and "fierce" as ever. Original members Vernon Reid, Corey Glover, Will Calhoun and (since 1993) Doug Wimbish gathered at Sono Studios outside of Prague in The Czech Republic during the fall of 2008 and spring of 2009 to write and record what would become The Chair In The Doorway. The results stretch from the modern soul anthem "Behind The Sun" to the politically-charged, heavy rock of "DecaDance" to the sacred steel blues of "Bless Those." The artwork for The Chair In The Doorway was compiled from thousands of contest entries by fans from around the world.

Living Colour"We feel like this is the best record we've made yet and we couldn't be more excited to be releasing it with the legendary Megaforce Records," says guitarist Vernon Reid.  "Some of our favorite bands were or are Megaforce artists, Metallica, Bad Brains, Anthrax, Black Crowes, so it's an honor to be part of a label with a great legacy."

Living Colour will announce plans for a world tour shortly. With dates set to begin in September, it will include their first North American tour in four years along with performances in South America, Europe, Australia and Asia.

Having helped to pave the way for a number of contemporary African-American artists to follow in their wake, ranging from Rage Against The Machine to Lenny Kravitz to Ben Harper, with a multi-dimensional sound that drew equally from Jimi Hendrix, Bad Brains, Talking Heads and Ornette Coleman, the success of Living Colour broke down the color barriers in rock music. Guitarist and founding member Vernon Reid also founded the Black Rock Coalition to use his influence to further this cause.

Discovered by Mick Jagger who produced their first demo and later offered them an opening slot with The Rolling Stones, Living Colour would go on to create a repertoire that includes a multitude of classic songs, including "Cult Of Personality," "Elvis Is Dead," "Open Letter To A Landlord," "Glamour Boys" and "Love Rears Its Ugly Head." With The Chair In The Doorway, the fifth album of their storied career, Living Colour expands the scope of their timeless body of work and, in the process, proves vital as ever.

Akron/Family are gearing up for a North American tour that features a handful of summer festivals plus headlining club and theater dates. Just back from Japan (JPGs HERE!), Akron/Family will be joined by Wooden Wand for an east coast run and in September by very special guests Jeffery Lewis & The Junkyard and Slaraffenland. akron-familySimultaneously, Akron/Family’s US label, Dead Oceans, will be releasing a series of Akron/Family 7"s.  Side A will feature a track off their newest, most dynamic offering, Set 'Em Wild, Set 'Em Free, and the flip-side will boast an exclusive, 7"-only track.  These releases can be purchased at the band’s shows first before they will be made available to traditional retail outlets. The first in this series, "Everyone is Guilty,” is all but sold out - there are a few copies left at the band’s web store at akronfamily.com. The second 7" in the series, "River,” can be purchased during the September run and from traditional outlets in October. Details from the "Many Ghosts" single will be announced soon.
