Vail Mountain marked the limited terrain opening of the Legendary Back Bowls and Blue Sky Basin with a first-ever on-mountain sunrise concert, held beneath the iconic Back Bowls gate on Friday, February 6.
The pop-up performance, accessible exclusively by skiing or snowboarding, featured a special early-morning set from Chris Lorenzo, with opener Don Fuego, running from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. at more than 11,000 feet above sea level. Set against a high-alpine backdrop, the show brought electronic music into a setting rarely experienced at that hour—or elevation.
Lorenzo delivered a curated, high-energy set tailored to the mountain environment. Wrapping up his performance, he summed up the moment simply: “That’s easily the sickest venue I’ve ever played!”
The Legendary Back Bowls pop-up concert continues a growing Vail Mountain tradition of pairing world-class artists with intimate, unexpected on-mountain performances—events designed to surprise guests and create once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
The performance followed Thursday’s opening of limited terrain in Sun Up Bowl and China Bowl, along with portions of Blue Sky Basin. Guests can now access the Legendary Back Bowls and Blue Sky Basin via Sun Up Express Lift (9), Tea Cup Express Lift (36), Orient Express Lift (21), Skyline Express Lift (37), and Pete’s Express Lift (39). Select runs off these lifts are open with variable conditions.
With these additions, more than 2,800 acres of terrain are now open for skiing and riding at Vail Mountain. Terrain is open seven days a week, with more to follow as new snowfall allows. Guests are encouraged to check the My Epic App for the latest terrain and conditions updates.
This terrain opening was made possible by the creativity and dedication of the Vail Mountain operations teams during a challenging winter season.
