There are many musical influences that inform Donato’s latest album, Horizon (Retrace Music), his second all-original release. Within those inspirations, he has carved out a sound that speaks deeply to American roots music while boldly pushing it forward.
He calls it Cosmic Country — an organic rock band aesthetic laced with roadhouse twang, instrumental virtuosity, and melodically infectious songwriting. Bridging Nashville and the Great West, Kentucky and mid-’60s Northern California, tie-dye and plaid, it’s a world entirely his own.
Raised in Nashville, Donato began busking on Lower Broadway as a teenager, often playing eight-hour days. That dedication led him to Robert’s Western World, where he eventually joined the legendary Don Kelly Band, performing four-hour nightly sets — 464 shows in total.
Horizon follows 2023’s Reflector, which earned acclaim from No Depression, Glide Magazine, and Magnet Magazine. Donato has since been featured in Rolling Stone, UPROXX, Garden & Gun, and Relix, made his network television debut on CBS Saturday Morning, and appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s #LateShowMeMusic series.
Now three albums deep, Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country — featuring Nathan “Sugarlegg” Aronowitz (keys/guitar/vocals), Will “Mustang” McGee (bass/vocals), and Will “Bronco” Clark (drums/percussion/vocals) — continues to sell out venues nationwide, bringing their forward-looking vision of Cosmic Country to an ever-growing, passionate fanbase.
