Today, Brooklyn’s EVOLFO announce their brand new EP, Of Love – due April 24 via their own Food Of Love label – with new single and video for “Restless Seed.” Evolfo iterates on their id-fueled, lightning-in-a-bottle moments to create an album of sonic and interpersonal progression that explores a broader frequency of emotions and topics. They’ll take it on the road with a West Coast tour this spring + Desert Daze-presented release shows in LA and NYC, details below. Listen/watch “Restless Seed” here and presave Of Love here.

“Restless Seed” sports a hypnotic groove meant to ease listeners into a dreamlike state, in which they can absorb the question at hand: how does one create meaning in their lives within the unfathomably grand scope of time, while our bodies and souls are used like seeds to sow fields of profit for vampiric rulers? Of the track, the band expands, “A Restless Seed could describe a human soul lodged within that infinite landscape, a seed is seemingly small, but it is definitely there planted in the earth and growing.”

The video toes the line between a self-actualizing sense of humor and an alien abduction turned dance party, transcending the idea of what a rock band needs to be.

Of Love continues the band’s evolution by planting both feet in a brave new world of songs built upon many hours of experimentation and group improvisation; growth and experimentation is the bedrock of the band. Since forming over a decade ago, the seven-piece have culled a sonic universe that pushes the boundaries of psych rock – developing a devoted following among DIY scenes, festival communities, and far beyond.

On Of Love – and across their 2017 debut album, Last of the Acid Cowboys, 2021’s Site Out of Mind, two EPs, multiple singles and innumerable raucously received performances; see their recent Audio Tree session – Evolfo offers a feast of expressive psych soul, sinister garage, and spaced-out experimental rock in line with Can and Yes. “We treat the word ‘psychedelic’ as an opportunity to explore sonic and conceptual limits… mind manifesting, like where the mind expands to accept something new,” says guitarist and vocalist Matt Gibbs.

Of Love was born at the band’s brand new studio, Sound Home, where Rafferty Swink recorded hundreds of hours of jams just for fun. “We weren’t thinking about anything other than expressing our hive mind, experimenting and trying to get into a deeper, connected space as a group,” Swink says, adding that the studio itself became an instrument. “All of us are playing in a very uninhibited way, and I think that gives the record a lot of magic.”

To further shirk their inhibitions, Evolfo established Sound Home and their Food Of Love label so the bands and its community could have more creative flexibility and freedom. Change begins at home, and at the studio, the collective – Swink (keys, vox), Matt Gibbs, Ben Adams (guitar, vox), Ronnie Lanzilotta (bass), Dave Palazola (drums), Kai Sorensen (guitar, vox), and Jared Yee (saxophone) – trusted their inner collective compass, instinctively adding notes of feeling to an amorphous aural stew.

“The art is only as good as what you learn about yourself while you’re making it,” Gibbs continues. “I’d encourage people to take the rock stardom out of music and just make an album with your friends.”
