TANASI Releases Self-Titled Debut Album Blending Appalachian Roots and Global Traditions

TANASI’s Debut Album Weaves Appalachian Stringband and Global Sounds Into a Luminous Worldgrass Journey

Featuring Billy Cardine, Mary Lucey, and Anya Hinkle, TANASI’s debut album moves fluidly between Appalachian roots music and global traditions, creating an unmistakable worldgrass sound.

“To me, TANASI is Appalachian music without guardrails,” says the trio’s vocalist and guitarist, Anya Hinkle, “a culmination of our ever-evolving, unconventional paths, shaped by unpredictable winds, formed by unexpected hands, and forged together with joyful, emergent strength.”

Today, the trio shares their widely and wildly influenced self-titled debut album with the world.

Out now, Tanasi reflects a shared artistic life lived in motion. Long before coming together as a trio, TANASI’s members were independently immersed in musical traditions spanning Appalachia, Africa, Asia, and beyond — not as passing influences, but as lived experiences formed through collaboration, teaching, and time spent learning directly from musicians and communities around the world.

The album does not aim to blend styles for novelty’s sake; instead, it reveals the natural meeting points where rhythm, melody, and human connection overlap.

Fans can stream or purchase Tanasi in its entirety today. The band will celebrate the release of their debut LP with a special hometown show at Asheville’s Grey Eagle on May 9. A full list of tour dates can be found below.
