The announcement arrives as Mountain Grass Unit move toward a milestone Nashville week: on August 26, the quartet will make their Grand Ole Opry debut, following a surprise invitation delivered onstage at DelFest by Del McCoury and Ronnie McCoury. The following night, the band celebrates the release of Appalachian Smoke with an August 27 album release show at Brooklyn Bowl Nashville.
From there, Mountain Grass Unit will carry Appalachian Smoke into the wild, with fall highlights including New Orleans at Tipitina’s, a Texas run through Houston, Austin and Dallas, two nights at Denver’s Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom, Mountain West and Pacific Northwest stops in Salt Lake City, Boise, Vancouver, Seattle and Portland, California dates in San Francisco and at West Hollywood’s Troubadour, and a Southern stretch through Atlanta, Opelika, Charleston, Charlotte and Raleigh. The run continues through major East Coast and Midwest markets including Washington, DC at 9:30 Club, Philadelphia, Brooklyn Bowl New York, Boston, Toronto, Detroit, two nights in Chicago and Minneapolis.
Produced by six-time Grammy winner Vance Powell (Chris Stapleton, Jack White, Phish), the 13-track Appalachian Smoke captures the adventurous live chemistry and instinctive interplay that have made Mountain Grass Unit one of bluegrass music’s most closely watched young acts. The album finds the band honoring bluegrass tradition while pushing confidently beyond it, weaving together psychedelic rock, jamgrass and expansive American roots music into their most ambitious and fully realized studio statement to date.
The Appalachian Smoke Tour follows a breakthrough stretch that has included an IBMA Momentum Band of the Year win, more than 30 sold-out shows in 2025, international touring and high-profile festival appearances. This fall, Mountain Grass Unit bring that momentum to headline stages across North America.
