The Strokes unveil their long-awaited new album, Reality Awaits—their first in six years—today via Cult Records/RCA Records. The LP features the singles “Going Shopping” and “Falling Out of Love,” which have quickly become fan favorites.
The album was recorded in Costa Rica with legendary producer Rick Rubin, who previously worked with the band on its acclaimed 2020 album, The New Abnormal. Following those initial sessions, the band and Rubin continued meeting around the world to complete the album wherever inspiration struck.
While in the studio in Costa Rica, The Strokes invited director Johann Rashid to capture the experience and create a short film. In Transit: Part II debuted yesterday, offering a glimpse into the recording sessions and the creative process behind the album.
The film serves as a sequel to the group’s 2004 documentary, In Transit. Watch In Transit: Part II HERE.
The project arrives ahead of extensive touring throughout the year, including a massive hometown show at New York’s Flushing Meadows Corona Park—the band’s first New York headlining performance in years—with support from Beach House, TV on the Radio and Fcukers.
Additional dates include two nights at London’s O2, Paris’ Accor Arena, Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome, Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena and many more.
The Strokes recently shared the music video for “Going Shopping,” paying homage to Paul Simon’s classic video for “You Can Call Me Al,” with Walton Goggins stepping into Chevy Chase’s iconic role.
Goggins was on location for a feature film in the Canary Islands when he told the band during a call, “Let’s go shopping!”
In late May, Julian Casablancas and his bandmates traveled to Tenerife, a Spanish island off the coast of Morocco, to meet Goggins on location and film the video.
In May, The Strokes debuted “Falling Out of Love” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, delivering one of the program’s final musical performances.
The Strokes formed in New York City. Since the release of their 2001 debut album, their beloved discography has helped define the sound of a generation.
