G. Love & Special Sauce will celebrate the Fox Theatre’s 35th birthday with a performance in Boulder on Saturday, March 6, 2027. The show is part of the band’s Yeah, It’s That Easy 30th Anniversary Tour.

G. Love & Special Sauce is an American hip-hop blues band known for its distinctive fusion of hip-hop, blues, funk and soul. Formed in Philadelphia in 1993, the band originally featured Garrett Dutton, known as G. Love, on lead vocals and guitar, Jeffrey Clemens on drums and Jim Prescott on bass.
The trio quickly gained attention for its laid-back, groove-driven style and G. Love’s distinctive vocal delivery, which blends rap-like spoken word with blues singing.
The band’s self-titled debut album, G. Love & Special Sauce, was released by Epic Records in 1994 and included the hit single “Cold Beverage.” The song became popular on alternative radio and MTV, helping establish the group’s place in the music scene.
The band’s style has been described as a mix of “slacker blues” and alternative hip-hop, frequently combining ’90s hip-hop beats with classic blues rhythms.
Over the years, G. Love & Special Sauce has released numerous albums, including Coast to Coast Motel in 1995, Yeah, It’s That Easy in 1997, The Electric Mile in 2001 and the Grammy-nominated The Juice in 2020.
The band’s sound has evolved to include more soul, R&B and rock influences while retaining its relaxed feel and clever lyrical play. The 2014 album Sugar reunited the original lineup after several years, and the group has continued to tour and release music for a loyal fan base.
G. Love & Special Sauce has performed at festivals including Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza. Dutton has also frequently collaborated with other artists, including Jack Johnson, and released solo projects that explore his blues influences more deeply.
