Big Deep Share 20-Minute Grateful Dead “Eyes of the World”

Big Deep has released a sprawling, nearly 20-minute live performance of the Grateful Dead classic “Eyes of the World,” now streaming on YouTube. Recorded at Soundcheck Studios on October 22, the performance finds the Woodstock-born band taking one of the Dead’s most beloved songs into wide-open territory, letting the groove breathe, build and drift before landing back home.

First released on the Grateful Dead’s 1973 album Wake of the Flood, “Eyes of the World” has long been a launching pad for exploration. Big Deep honors that spirit, bringing its own blend of indie rock melody, Southern soul and patient, unhurried improvisation to the song.

Born in Woodstock, New York, Big Deep is the new project from former Spafford bassist and vocalist Jordan Fairless and NYC avant-rock guitarist and composer Luke Schwartz (Glenn Branca Ensemble), joined by Kevin Cooper on keys and PJ Holaday on drums.

Their debut EP, Big Deep, Pt. 1, was recorded at Utopia Studios in Bearsville, New York, and released October 9. The collection features the singles “All At Once” and “Whisper of Wings.”

Fans can catch Big Deep live on Saturday, November 14, when the band co-headlines Garcia’s at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York, with Residual Groove.
