The Dead South have announced their fifth album, Silence, Please, recorded at Abbey Road Studios and due March 5, 2027, on Six Shooter Records.

Acoustic music that goes heavier, harder, louder: The Dead South do it again with Silence, Please, their fifth album, due March 5, 2027 on Six Shooter Records.

Recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London, UK, Silence, Please shows The Dead South’s sense of adventure and individuality at every turn. From doom metal banjo to saintly choirs, high lonesome harmonies, prog punk and gleeful sing-alongs, Silence, Please is an album that deserves your listen.

Darker, moodier, doomier, Silence, Please is full of complex characters who reckon with judgement and its arbiters. The only thing greasier than the characters are the album’s banjo bends. From guilt and shame to imposter syndrome, tricky thoughts and self-doubt are found throughout. While the characters in Silence, Please are fictitious, the insecurities, paranoia and anxieties are universal, relatable and familiar.

Picking up where they left off in the heavier moments of Chains & Stakes, their previous album, the new album pushes faster and further into a world of crossover, unbounded sound. The collection is a true Dead South fusion of traditional acoustic elements with very un-bluegrass-y moments, complete with proggy breakdowns, four on the floor drive, truly unnerving lyric swings and complicated, syncopated rhythmic transitions.

The playing on Silence, Please shows The Dead South’s development as musicians, not ‘in the style of’ but as masters of their own distinct sound and techniques. A new long neck banjo provides some of the album’s most metal moments, which finds good company with their signature chopped and frantic mandolin, emotive cello, and custom Sawchyn acoustic guitar propulsion. The Dead South met the iconic recording setting on their own terms, crafting an album with longtime producer Jimmy Nutt and engineer Cody Simmons that marks an evolution and elevation.

From its rousing walk-on to its closer, wherein one member of the band reveals himself to be a Tolkien purist, Silence, Please is a journey that encapsulates The Dead South’s own lore, mystique and unique place in the modern music landscape. One listen to “Sheho” - the only song about Saskatchewan ever recorded at Abbey Road Studios - and you know you’re somewhere you’ve never been before.
