Sweetwater Music Hall: Dead Tributes, Moonalice & More

Mill Valley's legendary Sweetwater Music Hall has unveiled a packed November and early December calendar, with plenty to keep Grateful Dead fans, psychedelic rock lovers, and roots music enthusiasts coming back for more. From Dead-inspired jams and Moonalice matinees to Allman Brothers tributes, classic garage rock, Americana, blues, and bluegrass, the historic Marin County venue continues its tradition of bringing musicians and music lovers together in an intimate setting.

For Deadheads, the festivities kick into gear on Sunday, November 15, when Shakedown Citi brings its Grateful Dead tribute to the Sweetwater stage. The evening promises a healthy dose of the music that has long been part of Marin County's musical DNA.

Sunday, November 29, delivers a particularly appealing doubleheader. Moonalice takes the stage for a 1 p.m. matinee, bringing its signature blend of rock and psychedelic soul. Later that evening, the Next-Gen Dead Jam features Spencer Krenz and members of Broken Compass Bluegrass and Deadset805, along with numerous special guests. It's an opportunity to hear a new generation of musicians carrying the Grateful Dead's improvisational spirit forward.

Moonalice returns on Sunday, December 6, for another afternoon performance, giving Bay Area fans a second opportunity to catch the band's psychedelic sounds before the holiday season gets fully underway.

Fans of the broader classic-rock and jam-band tradition will also want to circle Saturday, November 21, when Freestone Peaches celebrates the music of the Allman Brothers Band. The evening performance follows an afternoon blues and R&B show featuring Lester Chambers with The Mud Stompers.

Another standout arrives Friday, November 20, when The Seeds with Daryl Hooper and Love with Johnny Echols share the bill, alongside DJ Sid Presley. It's a particularly enticing night for fans of the '60s garage-rock and psychedelic scene.

Sweetwater also welcomes legendary rock photographer Henry Diltz on Thursday, November 5, for Behind the Lens, an evening of photography, slideshow presentations, and stories behind some of music's most memorable images. On December 4, Strange Daze pays tribute to The Doors.

There's plenty more on tap for roots music lovers, including Southern Culture on the Skids, The Tannahill Weavers, Jeffrey Martin, Max Gomez, Emily Scott Robinson, Josh Rouse, and the monthly Marin Bluegrass Sessions. The schedule also features funk, soul, open mic nights, local showcases, and holiday celebrations.

Established in 1972, Sweetwater Music Hall is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization and intimate live music venue in the heart of Mill Valley. The organization presents a wide variety of musical genres while supporting creativity, nurturing talent, and making the arts accessible to the community.
