Detroit, where I live, is only an hour from Toledo—the city Ohio wrested from us during the Michigan-Ohio War of 1836. I’ve driven through the Buckeye State many times and vacationed in most of its major “C” cities (plus the “T,” “D,” “BG,” and “M”). All of them are pretty level. Legend Valley, however—tucked near that middle “C” city—is shockingly hilly. I probably should have gleaned that from the word valley in its name, but hindsight is 20/20.

Grammy-winner Tim O'Brien is back with a new album he collaborated on with Jan Fabricius, Paper Flowers, out June 6 on Howdy Skies Records. Paper Flowers will be O'Brien's first true collaboration and duo album with Fabricius, with folk great Tom Paxton co-writing 12 of the album's 15 original songs. It was recorded at Cowboy Arms in Nashville with Tim on guitar and vocal and Jan on mandolin and vocal, along with longtime collaborators Mike Bub (bass), Mike Rojas (accordion), Justin Moses (resophonic guitar), and Larry Atamanuik (drums).
