Austin’s Cosmic Convoy Rolls Out “Body & Soul” for Summer Road Trips

Austin’s own Cosmic Convoy—the vintage-minded quartet featuring alumni of Golden Bear and The Channel—has kicked off the summer in style with the Independence-Day release of its latest single, “Body & Soul.” Dropped on July 4, the track has spent the past week and a half slipping onto playlists and spinning in dive-bar jukeboxes from Texas to Tulsa, its smooth soul groove and country-storyteller heart proving an irresistible combo for holiday road trips and backyard hangs alike.

Tracked live to bottle the band’s stage electricity, “Body & Soul” captures Cosmic Convoy at a new creative peak. Where their debut EP leaned on raw, late-night swagger, the new single radiates polish without losing the grit—tight pocket drumming, smoky guitar lines, and a vocal that threads effortless soul phrasing through a classic country narrative. It’s a snapshot taken from the passenger seat of a fifth-wheel trailer, the fireworks fading in the rear-view while cigarette smoke drifts through an open window.

The release extends a hot streak of local acclaim. KUTX tapped Cosmic Convoy for its “Song of the Day” spotlight in early 2021, praising the group’s “mutual love of vintage genres.” The Austin Chronicle echoed that enthusiasm later the same year, calling the band “the gem of the collection.” “Body & Soul” builds on that buzz, offering a confident next step in the band’s evolution from cover-set heroes to bona-fide songsmiths.
