Crow Black Chicken, the hard-hitting blues rock trio from the deep south of Ireland, announce the arrival of their fourth studio album, Ghost Dance, their first full-length release since 2016. “These guys do the nasty blues like the devil hisself was hurting and rock like they’ll skate come judgement day,” raves Ray Wylie Hubbard, while Grammy Award winner Alvin Youngblood Hart declares, “CBC could save rock and roll.” Classic Rock Blues Magazine adds, “With their debut album ‘Electric Soup’, the band shows steely intention to throw away comparisons and make their own mark.”
Recorded at GAF Studios in County Tipperary and produced by Philip Magee (Aslan, Kodaline, The Script, The Academic), Ghost Dance channels the raw, electric energy that has defined Crow Black Chicken since they first formed in 2009. The lead single, “Bottom Feeders,” set the tone with its signature hard-rocking riff and dirt-stomping groove. Following that, “Make It Right” broadens the palette, leaning into Americana-tinged rhythms propelled by foot-stomping drums, a smooth bass foundation, and luscious guitar textures.
At the heart of Ghost Dance lies the focus track “Hot Molasses,” which encapsulates everything CBC has become: the gravelly, earth-emboldened croon of Christy O’Hanlon locked in tight with Stephen McGrath’s pulse-driving bass and Gev Barrett’s thunderous percussion. Reflecting on the long-awaited record, the band comments, “Ghost Dance is a really special album to us. It marks almost ten years from our last release—a decade spent rethinking, evolving, and focusing on the live end of things. It’s been a long road, but getting back into the studio and having the chance to work with Philip Magee again—who we worked with for our debut album—has all made it feel like the right time, almost full circle. We’re proud.”
A powerful new chapter in Crow Black Chicken’s gritty legacy, Ghost Dance blends classic blues touchstones with modern rock urgency. Like a barrel-aged whiskey, their sound has deepened and gained bite without ever losing its soul. The band return in full force, reimagining their roots, honoring past legends, and driving the contemporary blues genre forward.
ABOUT CROW BLACK CHICKEN
Formed in 2009 in Cork and Tipperary, Crow Black Chicken are a power trio fusing the soulful grit of blues-rock with the weight of hard rock influences—earning comparisons to Gov’t Mule, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Led Zeppelin. Since their debut album in 2012 (produced by Philip Magee), CBC have released three studio LPs, two live albums, and supported the legendary ZZ Top in Cork. Their sophomore effort, Rumble Shake, debuted at No. 12 on the Irish Album Charts, and their live album Deep South was named one of the Top 5 Live Albums of 2015 by Classic Rock Blues. Wins at the Skegness Rock and Blues Festival and headline spots at HRH Blues cemented their reputation before Pariah Brothers in 2016. Now, after countless sold-out shows across Europe and festival appearances from Glastonbury’s BBC Introducing to the Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival, Crow Black Chicken return with Ghost Dance, reasserting themselves at the vanguard of modern blues rock.
