Danny Golden Announces New Album The Big Blue, Shares First Single

Austin-based singer/songwriter Danny Golden announced today his new Indie Americana album, titled “The Big Blue,” that is set to release on June 24, 2026. Coinciding with the album announcement, Golden has dropped the first “Hungry Ghost” single with an accompanying music video HERE.

Danny Golden is an emerging artist based in Austin, Texas, a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who creates with an adventurous spirit. Golden has recently toured nationally with his band and performed alongside artists such as Shakey Graves, David Ramirez, Rob Baird, Matthew Logan Vasquez (of Delta Spirit) and more. Golden’s work has been featured in Billboard, NPR Austin, NBC Austin, Under The Radar, mxdwn and more.

“The Big Blue” began taking shape in the spring of 2022, the early days of Golden’s sobriety. That story quickly expanded into a wider narrative of love, loss, and growth.  In the summer of 2024, with a notebook full of song sketches from his last 2 years, Golden took a solo pilgrimage to Leonard Cohen’s house in Greece. It was while wandering the Greek islands, reading mythology, that he began to see the vision of how to connect these sketches and ideas into the album he needed to make. “The Big Blue” is a chronicle of letting go, tracing the path from personal collapse to breakthrough, and of the treasures found along the way.

Danny Golden on the album, “I set out to make a record about getting sober, about that experience. But it doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Life happened very fast. I lost friends to drugs, I fell in love, I found heartbreak. I had to learn to surrender over and over again, and this album tracks my struggles through that journey. Most every song on the album is in some way about trying to fill an emptiness with something that seems like it’ll work, whether it’s a substance or a person, or success, or any of the other myriad ways I tried to find wholeness outside of myself. It’s about finding out again and again that this simply doesn’t work. The album is a chronicle of me letting go of the things I spent my whole life chasing and clinging to, thinking they’d solve my problems. It’s about what happened after I let go, and the unexpected places where I found what I was looking for. To me, this isn’t simply a sobriety album, a grief album, or a breakup album. It’s a wake-up album.”

The first single “Hungry Ghost” draws its title from a Buddhist concept about beings with huge bellies and tiny mouths who live in a state of perpetual, insatiable wanting. Golden sees it as a metaphor for both addiction and the human condition at large, reflecting a cycle where solving one problem only reveals the next one. Ultimately, the song is not about defeat, but about understanding and embracing this relentless nature as a condition to be worked with.

This announcement comes on the heels of Golden being brought on by 20th Century Studios to promote the recent Bruce Springsteen biopic “Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere.” Springsteen’s famous bedroom studio was recreated by 20th Century Studios and they had Danny play Springsteen all across Austin, resulting in a buzzy moment in person and across socials. 20th Century Studios recorded his performance and Golden released his “Live from Nowhere: Songs from Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska.”
