Deborah Silver & The Count Basie Orchestra Snag GRAMMY Nomination for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album

On Friday, Billboard #1 Jazz Artist Deborah Silver and the legendary Count Basie Orchestra received a GRAMMY Award Nomination for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album for their Billboard chart topping album “BASIE ROCKS! Deborah Silver & The Count Basie Orchestra.” Produced by Rolling Stones drummer extraordinaire Steve Jordon, “BASIE ROCKS!” re-imagines timeless Rock classics from artists including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Sting, Elton John and others. Following their 2024 GRAMMY win for Best Large Jazz Ensemble, the new album celebrates the iconic Count Basie Orchestra’s 90th Anniversary. This announcement marks Silver’s first GRAMMY Award Nomination.

Released on May 2, 2025, the orchestra’s Musical Director Scotty Barnhart calls the collection “an unprecedented recording that shows what’s possible when an outstanding and versatile vocalist joins forces with the world’s greatest jazz orchestra.” Special guest Trombone Shorty is featured along with highly-respected jazz musicians including Arturo Sandoval, Bill Frisell, Kurt Elling, and George Coleman. Rocker/producer Steve Jordan describes this project as “where classic rock meets classic big band.”

The 11 track project is packed with hits like Peter Frampton’s smash “Baby I Love Your Way” (with guest Peter Frampton as a special nod to his recent Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame nomination), and an incredible version of The Rolling Stones’ “Paint it Black” (with Arturo Sandoval on trumpet), Paul McCartney’s “Band on the Run”, Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love”, Elton John’s “Benny and the Jets” and more surprises.

You can also catch Silver delivering her powerhouse big band and swing arrangements of classic rock hits plus surprising selections from the Great American Songbook on Episode 6 of Recorded Live at Analog, on PBS. Recorded Live at Analog is produced live at the celebrated Nashville venue in the Hutton Hotel. Its state-of-the-art acoustics and intimate setting create a close connection between artist and audience that can be seen and heard. View preview here.
