Derek Day infuses his music with theatrical flair and modern edge, bridging the gap between classic and contemporary rock.
Hailing from Los Angeles, California, Day was busking on the streets of Santa Monica by age 13. By his early 20s a video of Day found its way to Steve Vai, which led to Day opening a series of shows. Vai’s tour manager spread the word, and suddenly Day found himself opening Ted Nugent, touring with Slash, Moby, Joan Jett, Poison, Def Leppard, and Mötley Crüe. He was also asked to play with Mötley Crüe at Taylor Hawkins Memorial in front of a sold-out crowd at The Forum in Los Angeles.
Day’s artistry knows no bounds; whether performing for 60,000 fans in Budapest with Stephen Perkins (Jane’s Addiction) and Scott Page (Pink Floyd) for a fresh interpretation of Pink Floyd with THINK:X or stepping into the vocal booth to add his flavor as a backing vocalist for Mötley Crüe’s single, “Dogs of War”.
“Day delivers the kind of streetwise melodic brashness that soundtracked the Whiskey a Go Go and the Rainbow Room for decades. However, there’s so much more to this young man – I Can’t Imagine reveals Day’s pop heart, expressing himself in a myriad of ways that reveal the influences of Jellyfish, late ‘70s Gregg Allman, and Cheap Trick.” – Rock&Roll Globe
Derek Day is endorsed by Cream Guitars, Vega Trim, Fender, and Yamaha.
