Drew Emmitt

Born in Nashville and raised in Boulder, Colorado, Drew Emmitt is best known as the co-founder of legendary jamgrass band Leftover Salmon. After moving west in 1973, he formed the Left Hand String Band before teaming up with Vince Herman in 1990 to launch Leftover Salmon — a genre-bending powerhouse that has defined Colorado’s jam scene for more than three decades.

Known for his fiery mandolin work and soulful vocals, Emmitt has performed alongside icons such as Peter Rowan, John Cowan, and Neil Young. His debut solo album, Freedom Ride (Compass Records, 2002), featured contributions from Sam Bush and others, showcasing his ability to weave bluegrass, rock, and Americana into a singular sound. Today, Emmitt continues to tour with his own ensemble, with Leftover Salmon, and as a frequent “artist-at-large” at major festivals nationwide.

John Cowan

Known affectionately as The Voice of Newgrass, John Cowan has been one of roots music’s most dynamic vocalists for more than forty years. His career began with the groundbreaking New Grass Revival, whose progressive sound — alongside Sam Bush, Béla Fleck, and Pat Flynn — redefined bluegrass and inspired generations of artists, from Billy Strings and Molly Tuttle to Yonder Mountain String Band and Leftover Salmon.

Cowan’s signature, rock-tinged tenor and powerful bass lines have graced countless recordings, from his solo albums Soul’d Out and New Tattoo to collaborations with legends such as Alison Krauss, Leon Russell, and Rodney Crowell. He has been a member of the Doobie Brothers since the 1990s, touring worldwide and performing classics like “Listen to the Music,” “Black Water,” and “China Grove.”

In 2020, Cowan and his New Grass Revival bandmates were inducted into the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame, cementing their status as pioneers of the genre. His latest project, The HercuLeons, features Andrea Zonn and legendary producer Wendy Waldman, with a debut album expected soon. His memoir, Hold To A Dream (published May 2024), captures his remarkable journey through decades of musical innovation and collaboration.

Eli Emmitt

Eli Emmitt, following in his father’s footsteps, has emerged as a talented multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, carrying forward the Emmitt musical legacy. A gifted performer with a passion for bluegrass, Americana, and rock, Eli adds a fresh voice and youthful energy to the trio’s live shows, blending seamlessly into the generational musical conversation onstage.
