Nearly four decades into their career, Atlanta rock veterans Drivin N Cryin remain a living, breathing American rock band—not a revival act or a nostalgic footnote, but a continuing story still being written.
The band will bring its Crushing Flowers tour to Cervantes’ Other Side in Denver on Tuesday, August 18, with the Eric Martinez Trio opening the evening.

The tour follows the release of Drivin N Cryin’s acclaimed new album, Crushing Flowers. Produced by longtime collaborator and occasional Drivin N Cryin guitarist Sadler Vaden, whose credits include Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, the record combines soaring guitars and harmonies with orchestral flourishes and frontman Kevn Kinney’s disarmingly honest songwriting.
The album also features guest appearances from R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck and the late Todd Snider, in what may have been one of Snider’s final studio recordings. Crushing Flowers is currently in the Top 10 of the Americana Radio chart.
“It feels like a new chapter for the band—more melodic, heartfelt, but still rockin’,” Buck said.
Drivin N Cryin emerged during the golden era of Southern college-radio rock that also produced fellow Georgia artists R.E.M., Indigo Girls, and The Black Crowes. By blending Southern rock grit, folk storytelling, and hard-charging rock & roll, the group established itself as both a must-see live act and a songwriter’s band with depth extending far beyond passing trends.
Kinney remains at the center of the music. A songwriter’s songwriter, he has spent decades examining ordinary lives with humor, compassion, and an unvarnished sense of truth. On Crushing Flowers, his lyrics confront aging, memory, family, loss, and the shared vulnerabilities that connect people.
The moving single “Mirror Mirror” was inspired by Kinney’s visits with his mother as she lives with Alzheimer’s disease. Explosive guitars and an unforgettable chorus give the song the immediacy of a classic Drivin N Cryin anthem, while its deeply personal origin lends it additional emotional weight.

Beloved by fans and fellow musicians for their live performances, Drivin N Cryin currently features Kinney on guitar and vocals, Tim Nielsen on bass, and Dave V. Johnson on drums. Over the years, the band has also toured with an impressive rotation of guest guitarists, including Warner E. Hodges of Jason & The Scorchers, Peter Stroud, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Vaden, and Laur Joamets.
The group will carry the Crushing Flowers tour through the summer and into 2027, with several Colorado appearances surrounding the Denver show. Following Cervantes, Drivin N Cryin will perform August 19 at Lulu’s in Colorado Springs, August 20 at the Moxi Theater in Greeley, and August 22 at KSUT’s 50th Anniversary Party at Ska Brewing in Durango.
