Americana folk-rock artist and fiddle player Erin Bonnie has released “Willie The Baker,” the first single from Act 1: Old Timey Harlot, arriving October 30. The five-song collection opens Bonnie’s sprawling 31-song, six-act concept album, Americana Hussy.
When something is on Erin Bonnie’s mind, she says it out loud, with a fiddle and a side of “hot damn!” Her upcoming record, Americana Hussy, consists of music for folkies and trads, classic country junkies, whiskey lovers, red-state rebels, rage babes and anyone whose Spotify listening age hits about 60-plus.
Produced by Sean McLaughlin at 37’ Productions, Americana Hussy is a 31-song, six-act concept album that reclaims slurs used to silence women while celebrating Bonnie’s unyielding love for Americana in all its forms, from old-time and bluegrass to modern country and alt-folk. Blending grit, sass and country-fueled feminism, the coming-of-age-and-then-some project delivers a journey of realization, reclamation and resistance.
Opening Americana Hussy in authentic mono, Act 1: Old Timey Harlot is a live-in-the-room dive into the heart of roots music. Built on clawhammer banjo, roaring dual fiddles, washboard, upright bass and front-porch vocal harmonies, the collection delivers bouncing melodies and character-rich storytelling with no artificial polish.
It is a joyful, toe-tapping nod to the past that feels simultaneously new and timeless. Listeners drawn to the warm, communal string-band sound of Carolina Chocolate Drops, the old-school folk storytelling of Gillian Welch or the unapologetic female-led tradition of June Carter Cash and Ola Belle Reed will find familiar ground.
The release cycle began September 16 with “Willie The Baker.” A new single is scheduled to arrive on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube and other major platforms every 10 days over the next year.
Bonnie was nominated for Best in State at the 2021 New England Music Awards and received an honorable mention in the American Songwriter lyric-writing contest for “Drunk On Love.” Her song “Love Was Made to Burn” was featured on The Young and the Restless.
