Fruition Unveils “Oh Well” From New Album Something More

First Album for Bloodshot Records out August 28

Today, the acclaimed bi-coastal Americana band Fruition unveils “Oh Well,” the first single from their eighth studio album, Something More, out August 28 on Bloodshot Records. The album is available for pre-order here.

“We’re beyond excited to welcome Fruition to the Bloodshot family,” says Kenny Schnurstein, GM of Bloodshot Records. “There’s a rare chemistry in this band that only comes from years of growing together onstage and off.”

Built on warm pedal steel, rich vocal harmonies, and an easygoing alt-country sway, “Oh Well” channels the exhilaration of finding light in uncertain places. The song’s central question: What lies at the bottom of the well? — unfolds as both metaphor and invitation.

Produced by Grammy winner Tucker Martine (The Decemberists, My Morning Jacket, First Aid Kit), which marks a turning point for the band, Something More features the band’s hallmarks front and center—tight-knit harmonies, thoughtful songwriting, electrifying live energy, and a deeply rooted rhythm section. The album is shaped as much by what the band has consciously shed.

Of the album, the band notes: “This album is the culmination of almost two decades of making music as Fruition,” explains the band. “We set out to show the world what we’ve learned along the way, both musically and personally, but perhaps more importantly, the album makes a point to be honest about the things we’ve had to UNLEARN. The truth of this album is found in kicking old habits, letting go of control, interrogating our motives, and approaching each session with fearless, open hearts.”

That spirit of openness is amplified by the presence of Martine, whom the band describes as a “sixth member” in the studio. His playful imagination and nuanced expertise, along with his inventive approach, helped inform many decisions throughout the recording process. “We pushed each other, we supported each other, and we came together to make something intentional, something brave and vulnerable, and something timeless,” says the band.

Much of the songwriting happened during collaborative sessions everywhere from a lakeside house in Denver to a flower-filled bungalow outside San Diego. With autobiographical lyrics that tackle uncertainty, acceptance, and the band’s long journey from past to present, Something More is the next chapter: a collection of lessons absorbed, trust deepened, and a band fully embracing what they’ve become.

In support of the album, the band will embark on a 21-city tour beginning June 15 in Dillon, CO. With stops throughout the U.S., the band will hit several festivals, including Big Ponderoo Music + Art Festival, David Shaw’s Big River Get Down, Smalltown Gathering, The Moonshiner’s Ball, and Cavefest. A list of dates is below, with more to be announced soon; tickets are now on sale.

Praised by Rolling Stone for their “heartfelt lyrics and stadium-worthy energy,” Fruition have spent nearly two decades making music together. Formed in 2008, starting as Portland street buskers, the band features Jay Cobb Anderson (vocals, guitar, pedal steel), Kellen Asebroek (vocals, keyboard, guitar), Jeff Leonard (bass), Miriam “Mimi” Naja (vocals, mandolin, guitar), and Tyler Thompson (drums, percussion).

Over the years, they have shared the stage with CAAMP, The Wood Brothers, Jack Johnson, and John Craigie, among others, and have appeared on iconic festivals and stages, including Red Rocks, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Bourbon and Beyond, Bonnaroo, Levitate Music Festival, Calgary Folk Music Festival, Kaslo Jazz Etc Summer Music Festival, WinterWonderGrass, and the Northwest String Summit. Hailed by Billboard as “one of America’s most compelling roots acts,” they are “a band whose chemistry feels lived-in and wholly authentic” (No Depression).
