Grateful Dead Release Two Spring 1992 Shows on Play Dead

The Grateful Dead are digging back into their Spring 1992 tour for the latest installment of Dead Drops Tuesday, bringing two complete performances from March 8 and 9, 1992, at the Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland, to the Play Dead streaming platform.

Presented by Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux, this week's release captures two nights from the band's East Coast run, featuring a mix of familiar favorites, deep improvisation, and powerful performances from the early '90s lineup.

The March 8 show opens with "Let the Good Times Roll" into "Touch of Grey," followed by a first set that includes "Black-Throated Wind," "Loose Lucy," Bob Dylan's "Desolation Row," and "The Music Never Stopped." The second set features "Samson & Delilah," "Foolish Heart" into "Looks Like Rain," a fiery "All Along the Watchtower," and an emotional "So Many Roads" before "Throwing Stones" into "Not Fade Away." "The Mighty Quinn" closes the evening.

March 9 delivers another memorable night, opening with "Jack Straw" into "West L.A. Fadeaway," along with "Row Jimmy," "Cassidy," and a smoking "Deal." The second set ventures into deeper territory with "Victim or the Crime" into "Iko Iko," "Corrina," and "Dark Star." Following "Drums" and "Space," the band moves through "I Need a Miracle" into a magnificent "Morning Dew," with "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" serving as the encore.

Deadhead Martin Knott shares his memories of the two-night run:

"March 8 opens with Good Times Roll > Touch, followed by Black Throated Wind, Loose Lucy, and Desolation Row. The Sunday sermon brings Samson, then Foolish Heart > Looks Like Rain, a killer Watchtower, and I distinctly remember an emotional So Many Roads that brought me to tears. Throwing Stones > NFA has the DC faithful dancing and the love flowing before Mighty Quinn closes.

March 9 delivers Jack Straw, West L.A., Row Jimmy, and a smoking Deal. The second set goes deep with Victim > Iko Iko > Corina > Dark Star. After Drums > Space, Miracle explodes into a magnificent Morning Dew. Satisfaction brings it home.

Four nights between Hampton and Landover. Great friends, incredible music, and memories that never fade.

Spring Tour 1992. What a ride! Enjoy!"

Both performances were recorded by longtime Grateful Dead sound engineer Dan Healy and mastered by David Glasser from the band's original Ampex 467 DAT recordings. The newly available concerts can now be streamed in high-resolution audio exclusively through Play Dead.
